My boyfriend and I decided to go for the first time to Vinotta. The place is nice. It is super clean inside the restaurant. The restaurant by itself is not big, that is why I highly recommend making reservations before you go there, especially during the weekend. Food tasted great! We ordered as antipasti a Grilled Octopus. For the main course we ordered Pappardelle, Porcini and Truffle, and Lobster Ravioli. There is no compliance with the food. Everything was cooked well and tasted amazing. The only problem we had was our waiter. It took him 25 minutes to take our check. He was just wandering around but did not pay attention to our table. My boyfriend and I had a great impression overall until this situation. Our waiter was not busy, he was standing by the wall and just did not care about us. Vinotta is a unique blend of classic Italian fare with touches of modern and global influences, all tucked into a small, but tasteful space on Waltham's Mood Street. Considering the small kitchen which is barely big enough for three people cooking, they manage to turn out a good sized menu across multiple courses, and the bar is well stocked for everything from wines to pair to cocktails to enjoy. Everything we had, from the warm rolls to start to the fresh proscuitto and burrata app, to my wife's seafood risotto (spectacular!) to my massive veal chop and broccoli rabe was scrumptious and well paced. The vibe was classic but friendly. We will definitely be going back to try the pasta too because it looked and smelled amazing every time we saw it on another table. We'll start with the ambiance. It was beautifully decorated and the layout was nice for the space available. Service was good and the owner showed heavy involvement in the service which is nice to see. Our appetizer was great with the meatballs, the sauce was sweet and the size of the meatballs were shareable. Our entrees were great, my girlfriend had the steak and ravioli which has a very flavorful sauce alone with it. I had the seafood soup which was beautifully plated and the flavor was great. Only suggestion would be that the mini shrimp was not needed on the plate with so many other great seafood options. Came off as a filler to a great plate. I can't say enough good things about this new addition to Moody Street. While La Campania has always been our favorite Italian spot in Waltham, the newly opened Vinotta gives Campania a run for its money. Particularly love the chef's use of lemon, capers and artichokes in such dishes as Lemon Chicken and Pacific Bass. The Beef Tenderloin was perfectly cooked, even in a takeout container! Great wine list too. Once Covid is over we look forward to eating at the cute bar, but for now, takeout will suffice. read more

The food was mediocre.The waiter was taking our order and stopped in the middle to bring a table who had just sat down water. I was served my salad before the wine. I was served the cordial after dessert was finished. When my son was served his steak, we needed to request a knife. I had the Fruitti di mare with a garlic white wine sauce. The fettuccine was like egg noodles and had no flavor. My sons filet was a very small portion maybe 5 oz. The lava cake for dessert was cool and overcooked on the edges. read more

Took my boyfriend to this restaurant for dinner since I had been for drinks but never tried dinner. My boyfriend has celiac and informed the waiter about his allergy and ordered gluten free pasta (menu states most items can be made gluten free). The food came out and after my boyfriend took his first bite the waiter came over and let him know it wasn't the gluten free pasta. He fixed the situation but the damage was already done. We let the waiter know just so he could tell the kitchen for future reference. The waiter was nice and told the owner who proceeded to come over and rudely explain how the pasta is made with Italian flour and my boyfriend will not get sick. We explained it's an allergy to flour it doesn't matter where it comes from and he continued to disrespect us and tell us he will be fine and basically it doesn't matter. It was extremely uncomfortable and rude to disregard the kitchens mistake in feeding someone something they are allergic too. The waiter was nice and definitely felt uncomfortable and then accommodated us with free shots which was nice but we will not be back. I would avoid this establishment if you have an allergy because you will likely to be told it's not real. Update: My boyfriend did indeed get sick, as we knew would happen. read more

Unfortunately, its overpriced for what you receive. Service was good, food was tasty but my $40 " special" was so skimpy I was still hungry. Two slices of a carrots, one slice of a zucchini and two slices of a potato accompanied my extremely thin fish filet. I've never seen "mixed" vegetables served in such a miserly amount. I walked and told the hostess that I had a reservation but I was a little early and I did not mind waiting.Then a party the same size as mine walked by the restaurant and said ooh should we try there then they walked in and they did not have a reservation and got seated right away. So then I walked back in and told the hostess what I just saw and she lied to my face and told me that they did have a reservation even though they told me they did not so then we made an executive decision to go somewhere else. I'm so glad I was attracted by their outdoor dining set-up, then by the menu posted at the doorway to the smiling faces when looking through the windows--it all drew me in besides a few hungry tummies looking to be satisfied. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was horrible. We went to this restaurant on a Sunday evening and it was not crowded. The day was very hot, so we asked to sit inside, despite some seating outside, on Moody street. My wife and I waited inside by the host/hostess stand. We were well dressed because we had come from a family function at a nearby Church. My wife had a nice dress and I was in a linen suit with an open collar. We are in our 60s and we were dressed like we had some money to spend. The first sign that something was wrong was the number of servers and wait staff who walked by us, without saying a word. I could see the hostess, just outside, talking and laughing with an elderly couple. After 10 to 15 minutes an man who had the air of the owner or manager apologized for the lack of attention and asked if we would like to sit inside or outside. We said inside, and he called the hostess and she brought us to a booth near the open kitchen counter. The booths were beautifully set with fancy tablecloths and matching napkins pouring out of the glasses like sprays from a fountain. The only problem was that the inside temperature was about 85 to 90 degrees. I asked the hostess about it and she said they had decided to leave the windows open and leave the AC off because the day was so warm and breezy. I asked if we could sit outside. Once outside, we were seated next to the elderly couple that the hostess had been speaking with. We ordered drinks and waited. I noticed that the owner/manager was now speaking with the elderly couple. One of the waiters brought a round of limoncello, on the house, to the 4 young people on our other side. They seemed to know them and were congratulating them on upcoming nuptials. Someone brought us some bread and proceeded to ignore us. After 20 minutes I asked about our drinks. The waiter apologized and went inside. The owner continued speaking with the elderly couple as the gentleman smoked a cigarette which wafted in my direction. It took another 15 minutes to get our drinks. Yes, I timed it, a total of 35 minutes to get our drinks. All the while a festival of conversation with the tables on both sides, but no attention to us. We were about to leave when the first course arrived. Sausage and broccoli rabe with orecchiette in a broth. It was delicious. Just like the same dish I have had in Rome. So we decided to stick it out. More intense inattention followed. A bus boy took my empty drink and asked if I wanted another. I told him that I would, instead, like a glass of Cabernet with my main course. The main course came, equally delicious; we both had veal, Marsala for her, piccata for me -- amazing. No one came with my wine and no one asked how our meal was. I looked for the waiter and he was nowhere to be found. I ate my whole meal before he showed up to ask if we wanted dessert. I thought restaurants made a nice profit off of wine, but they seemed to have no interest in either profit or their customers, other than the elderly couple, who were still there and still getting special attention. I can't comment on the desserts, which looked good, but which we skipped. It's surprising that a restaurant that does not seem to care about their diners, would hire such a good chef. I feel sorry for him because, unless they improve their customer service, this restaurant is sure to fail. read more

The best Italian we've had in years! Authentic Italian dishes, fresh ingredients, perfect portion sizes for a hungry crowd. Insalata Romana came with anchovies and was made gluten free for us. Carpaccio was delicious. Our pasta dishes: caserecce carbonara, ravioli with meatballs, shrimp and clams linguini and specially my porcini and truffles with gluten free penne were all perfectly seasoned and delicious. Went there last night to celebrate my son's birthday. Service was great, seating was fine, and we could actually carry on a conversation as the acoustics have been solved. Bread and oil are great and my gin and tonic was very good too. We didn't order appetizers because we decided that this was one time we'd actually try to finish our meals without taking home leftovers, which are never as good when microwaved. We had a variety of dishes: minestrone soup, the special seafood pasta dish, Chicken Marsala, Veal Pizzziola, but the table favorite was the Lobster Arrabbiata. The sauce was tangy (due to jalapeños) but not overly so and the lobster was cooked to perfection. My wife and have just come back from two weeks in Italy and no sauce we over there could come close to this delightful dish. I will be back again, very soon. The food is also moderately priced. My husband and I arrived early for our reservation, and the host provided us with chairs so we wouldn't have to stand while we waited for the other couple to arrive. This kind of thoughtfulness and concern for guests' comfort was consistent throughout our meal. We had a lobster special, the papardelle with mushrooms and black truffle, the pasta bolognese, and a sea bass special. Everything was delicious, beautifully prepared, and seasoned. After having a good experience the first time, I decided to come back. Sadly I was disappointed. We started with the mussels and meatballs. Mussels weren't bad but the meatballs according to my young adult children "taste like high school lunch". They did taste like something that was previously frozen. The menu description claimed they were made from beef and veal but having made meatballs many times at home with veal I could not taste any veal. Other than the pasta, which is home made, the main courses are typical "American" style Italian food with red sauce and cheese. The ambiance is nice so if you are willing to overpay for ambiance and a night out on Moody St then this isn't a bad, little Italian place. Other than that it's nothing special. read more

I love this restaurant - the food, the seating and the decor/ambiance. First, the pale blue interior is so pretty, and the staff is professional and friendly. The booths have high upholstered backs which make for a pleasant dining experience - you can have a nice, quiet conversation - no loud, noisy room where you can hear everyone's conversation and they can hear yours. Second, the menu is substantial and varied - and every entree my husband and I have tried has been delicious - seafood, pasta and chicken. I no longer have to travel to Newton Centre for my favorite Chicken Marsala, because Tartufo's former chef opened Vinotta and brought it here. Fabulous Sunday night dinner with a friend. Just what we needed to kick off our week on a better note - Pinot Noir from Abruzzo, eggplant involtini, veal chops in marsala sauce (this was sooo good), and then classic tiramisu for dessert. I truly appreciated the hostess and staff trying to space us out inside and love the big windows that open up in the warm, yet crisp, late Summer air. I really wanted to love this place and had high expectations given the reviews. The bar was a 5 - super friendly bartender who really made you feel welcome. Nice selection of wines. The decor was also a 5 - a really cozy place. The food was a 4 - we had the Lemon Chicken and Veal Pizzaiola. The Lemon Chicken was good but really could have used a starch to accompany the dish - like potatoes, rice or pasta. The veal was pounded extremely thin - but it was tasty. So why the 3 rating? Service. It started out ok but then deteriorated. Our server took our order - then it took quite awhile for our food to arrive - and once it did arrive, he didn't check in to see if everything was to our liking. Plates weren't cleared for some time, water glasses weren't filled and we had to track our server down for the check. They weren't particularly busy and seemed to be well staffed. When you are going out for a nice meal, the service level can make our break the experience. Unfortunately, we didn't have the best experience. I would , however, be inclined to give the place another try because it has the potential to be really good. read more

Wonderful food! This is my first time ordering food from Vinotta. I ordered veal marsala and my husband ordered chicken Americano. We also ordered a side of broccoli rabe. The food was ordered via Grubhub and arrived warm enough to eat without being reheated. Our meals were just delicious. The veal marsala was one of the best I've had in years. My husband loved his chicken Americano. The broccoli rabe also was yummy. Although not inexpensive, the meals were ample. Not being big eaters, both my husband and I had enough food for two meals. The hostess tonight was the rudest I have ever encountered. We came 15 minutes early for our reservation and were told we would have to wait (which we were totally fine with). While waiting outside, another family the same size as our party came and mentioned that they did not have a reservation but wanted to check out how long it would be for a table. They went in and were told by the hostess that a table would be made up right away. We watched as she asked another couple, who were already seated, to get up and move tables so she could fit in this party that just arrived without a reservation. She sat them right away and let us continue to wait. She then lied to our party and told us they had a reservation, even though we spoke to them outside and they told us themselves that they did not. After waiting a while past our reservation time we finally decided to just leave and find another spot to eat at. Very disappointing. read more

I was excited when I first saw the restaurant menu, they have a lot of seafood variety. I ordered the pasta with clams which was AMAZING, not your typical clam linguini with white sauce. My husband ordered the parpadelle with lobster which was delish as well. I also decided to order a third dish (i know i am greedy), the pacific bass. This was very well cooked. I would say this place is authentic Italian food. If it was not because of pandemic, this restaurant would be packed. Another plus, decor was very chic.
