    French omelette

My first 2026 review goes to Vinegar Hill House. Vinegar Hill House is located in one of the historic neighborhoods in Brooklyn. We had the chance to have brunch here for a double birthday celebration of my friends. The place is casual and arguably small and packed. Making reservations in advance is vital to avoid disappointment. When our group was seated, we were given a one-page brunch menu. There were very few brunch selections, and I settled with a French omelette with comté and zucchini served with greens and bacon on the side. I was surprised how delicious the omelette was, and I felt that it could do without the bacon. The ambiance is festive, and the servers are attentive and checked on us many times. I will definitely come back here as my friend told me that I should try their cast iron chicken for dinner.

WOW. Since I was in Paris in early 2022, no breakfast has been able to top the one I had in a tiny little cafe there, but Vinegar Hill House may be the one to do it. To start off with the restaurant itself, it was so cozy and cute; and the staff were so incredibly lowkey and chill. The FOOD was next level. I don't think any images (including mine) do justice to the absolute flavor bomb that each dish carries. We got the apple sourdough pancakes (of course), the french omelette with oyster mushrooms, the egg sandwich, and the leek quiche and each bit was more delicious than the last. The sandwich was super unsuspecting, but the fluffy egg mixed with the perfectly melted brie and jam was just absolutely insane. Similarly, I had never really given quiches a chance because I just thought they'd be too eggy, but VHH is just SO GOOD at cooking fluffy eggs. I was expecting the most out of the omelette, and maybe it was because I received the end piece, but it was probably the least favorite for me, but that is not to say that it tasted bad, just less exciting than the rest. Finally, the pancakes... I am still DREAMING about them. The sourdough was STRONG and the pancake was just so perfectly fluffy. I also have to give a quick shoutout to the delicious House Bloody. This was perhaps my fave eats of the weekend.

Very cute spot with brunch and dinner menus available - they also have a beautiful garden outside and private party space downstairs. Their brunch menu is very straightforward with varied but few options - the sourdough pancake stood out to me the most, although it was denser than I had thought but was the perfect level of sweet. The small portion was filling enough for one person, so would recommend the large if you plan to share. The prices are a bit high, as to be expected by city menu prices - brunch was roughly $40-50/per person.

Very cute spot. The food was all very yummy as well. The only thing is the cast-iron chicken, - which smelled phenomenal omg -with pink inside. Very unfortunate. Otherwise, we got the octopus, focaccia, and squash. Would recommend all of them.

I saw a recommendation to try this place out and it did not disappoint! The restaurant gives an intimate feeling with its small size and low lighting. Staff is super friendly and it helped having reservations for brunch since they were fully booked Saturday morning. Apple pancake: 9.5/10 - I'm not big on eating sweet items in the morning but this was worth getting. Our table of 4 shared a large pancake and it was so good! The sweetness was coming purely from the apples so it's not overwhelming even with all the syrup on top. I was pleasantly surprised and would come back just for this. Quiche: 8/10 - If you're looking for something to get your veggies in for the day this is it! The crust was flakey and the filling was eggy with just enough bit from the broccoli. We were told they run out of the quiche pretty quick so I'm glad we were able to try it!

Can't wait to come back here . This pancake was the star of the show and I can eat one everyday for the rest of my life and that says a lot . The service was great , atmosphere great , cozy fireplace. What more could you ask for ?

We came for a Friday night dinner. Cozy, warm, inviting, friendly service. The meal was delicious. It reminded me of good honest home cooking. Pleasantly surprised by the price. Meal for two including dessert and bottle of wine ended up being $200. A neighborhood gem.

The service is pretty good. No complaints from me there. Food is good as well. What's the problem then? I'm happy that you asked! The portions are so fucking small. Now, don't get me wrong, I do eat like a bird so I eat smaller portions unless I'm famished. However, when we received our tiny pancakes, we decided to order something else. I was hoping that it would be a stack of two pancakes. I was going to get the large and save a pancake for later. However, it was one bloated pancake. I wish people put pancake with no pluralism on their menus. I was aiming for the plum pancakes since that menu was still up online but they only had pear. The pancake was really good though it's not my favorite style of pancake. We decided to order the caramelized onion quiche to share. I also got a Hell on heels which I did enjoy but it was a bit sour. When the quiche came it was a tiny slice with some mixed greens drenched in a vinaigrette. I assumed it would be the tiny tart size, but I was wrong. It was extremely annoying trying to split a small slice of a quiche. I took a few bites and passed it over because I was just disappointed at that point. The quiche was amazing though. I would actually remake that myself because I don't know if I would come back here on my own dime.

Cute little restaurant in Dumbo area. This was a perfect place for a light brunch with dishes to share. Only downside is there's no espresso or cappuccinos but they do have coffee. Had three dishes to share which were all delicious...a blueberry sourdough pancake, an egg bacon cheese sandwich and a spinach quiche.

Dessert... Rhubarb Panna Cotta with olive oil :(

Popped in here for a dinner w/ some work connections, and this is a bit out in the quieter, less new, but still pretty trendy neighborhood of Brooklyn, reminds me of some of the areas in Jersey City, honestly, small tight row homes and cobble/pot-holed streets. They have a bar and seating that's a bit on the uncomfortable side, leaving a somewhat unfinished or legacy feeling throughout - the table was uneven making for tilted plates and water at times. The server took great delight telling us where various foods were from, so they try to source local, including the beer I tried (a peach sour which I thought would be a good start to summer). The semolina sesame bread was surprisingly dry; even with the butter it only helped the area the butter was on, and the rest of the bite was tougher. Scallop crudo was not bad, pickled melon, buttermilk, basil and fennel pollen. The romaine salad was good - a take on caesar. The english peas & feta wasn't bad ,either, I'm just not a peas fan. Chicken liver mousse had a lovely vinegar onion with it and the bread there was much better than the semolina we tried earlier - this is what you can get if you like liver or foie gras. Dinner I tried the rigatoni, lamb ragu w/ pecorino. The cheese was strong, the lamb was stronger, overwhelming a bit - I liked the pasta, very much al dente but the whole dish could've used a bit more balance. I also tried a few pieces of the pork chop, too thick for me - I like it cooked thinner and more juicy / fatty, but the center was simply leaner/harder than I like. Others enjoyed it. Asparagus side was pretty solid. Citrus and radishes... too salty blech... literal crunch of salt eating it. Dessert - a panna cotta...which might've been good, but they had olive oil on it which completely ruined the expectation of flavor - would've been better with honey. Overall, perhaps some folks enjoy because it's their neighborhood haunt, but I've had better - Jockey Hollow in Morristown does a much better job of this local food sourcing and cooking.

The food was pretty good, but the service was disappointing. Our server never checked in on my partner or me throughout the entire meal. He frequently visited the table next to us but didn't acknowledge us even once, which was very disappointing.

Had a really nice time at Vinegar Hill House. I was asked to take photos of my friend's wedding reception. They have a really nice back space for events. It was well lit and the mood was really great. It was time for me to take a break, so I pulled up a seat at the bar and was treated very well by the bartender. Gave me a few recommendations and went for it. I must say the food was amazing. I really want to go back and try more things on the menu. I took it easy because I was on someone else tab. But I have to go back for me. Very impressed by this establishment. Will be returning soon!

We visited Vinegar Hill House for dinner. We had a cozy corner seat. There is a great ambience and the servers are very nice. The stracciatella is a must and ask for extra bread. We split the spaghetti and the halibut. Both were delicious! If we're ever in the area we will definitely be coming back!

I chose this place because I had visited a few times in the past and expected a positive environment. While there, I ran into an old friend who was accompanying individuals with special needs. They informed us about the R&B karaoke event, and we attempted to participate respectfully and supportively. Unfortunately, after participating, the DJ became rude and dismissive. My friends decided not to continue because each time they attempted to request a song, the DJ was unkind and impatient, seemingly unaware--or unconcerned--that they were individuals with special needs. The situation escalated when I attempted to calmly address the disrespect. Instead of listening, the bartender repeatedly accused me of being drunk simply because I was defending myself after a rude comment. I was not intoxicated; I was advocating for respectful treatment. Even the DJ's own companion appeared visibly shocked by the comment made toward me, as if anticipating a reaction. I remained composed and professional despite being deeply upset. What disappointed me most was the staff's decision to defend the DJ's behavior rather than acknowledge how inappropriate and disrespectful the interaction was. This reflects poorly on how this establishment treats people--especially those who deserve patience, understanding, and dignity. I came expecting an enjoyable brunch experience and left feeling ashamed for having trusted this place. It is clear that the venue prioritizes protecting mediocre DJs with minimal local popularity over treating customers with basic respect. Poor organization, lack of proper event management, and unprofessional staff behavior made this experience unacceptable. I have visited many establishments and have never felt so disrespected. I will not be returning.

TL;DR version- Some high highs and some very low lows. Hot Figs was a fun app. By a mile, the soups…read morewere the favorites, so I would recommend the Pepián or Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo. Nice happy hour and a large chocolate drink selection I was at this unique Guatemalan (ish) restaurant a while back with one of my groups. I said "ish" because the menu has dishes from all over, ranging from sandwiches to BBQ ribs to Guatemalan and Mexican soups. It's out there, and even though not everything works that well, it's fun, and if you can't find something you want to order here, you probably shouldn't go out to restaurants. There was also live jazz music that night, which was loud but nice to listen to. Since it was happy hour, a bunch of us got drinks. I went with a maracuya margarita, which was decent; someone else had a jalapeño margarita, someone had a beer, and someone had a mojito. There were a few nice hot sauces on the table, with the red one reminding me of salsa macha as it had a smoky kick and a spicier green sauce reminiscent of ají verde. They gave us some complimentary blue corn chips and a very mild black bean dip, which was tasty enough and hard to complain about, as it was free. From the appetizers, we got the Hot Figs for $15.95, consisting of honey goat cheese, corn tortilla chips, and plum + pumpkin seeds. This was a unique and fun blend and reminded me more of something you would find in a wine bar. The mix of sweet and salty, with a bit of crunch from the seeds, was nice. This was good, and I would recommend it for a table rather than for a solo diner. There was also The Zingy Salad for $21.95, featuring zucchini spirals, yuzu, tomato, onion, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, and a jalapeño infusion. $18.95. The salad was fine with a bit of crunch and a mild spiciness. It was fine, though a bit wet, for lack of a better word. The best dishes of the night were the soups, which each had its own distinct flavor profile. My sight presence went to the Pepián for $21.95, consisting of chicken, pumpkin/sesame seeds, green tomatillo, cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, carrots, chili coban/pasta/guaque, and potato + rice. There was plenty of tender chicken inside, with the soup having a nice roasted flavor with some spice and a bit of sourness. The potatoes and rice on the bottom added more sustenance to this dish. Almost equally delicious was the Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo for a dollar more with shredded chicken, tomato, black pepper, garlic, onions, peas, chickpeas, corn, achiote, chipotle, Monterey jack cheese, and crunchy blue corn tortilla chips. By comparison, this was a bit heartier, with the melted cheese and shredded tortilla chips inside, similar to soups found in Mexican cuisine. While I also liked the mix of veggies a bit more in this one, as it added a bit more texture, I still slightly preferred the flavor of the other soup, as I usually prefer a bit more spice. The rest of the food was fine. The TPC sandwich for $19.95 with chicken, peanut butter, coconut cream, ginger, cilantro, pickled carrots, and lime was fine. For the number of ingredients, I found it a bit sweet, likely from the cream and the peanut butter mix. The bread was nice, but it also fell apart. It came with a nice side salad with a good vinaigrette. The most expensive at $24.95 were the Slow Cooked BBQ Ribs, consisting of baby back ribs with rice and beans. The ribs were almost a bit too tender as they lacked any bite, which was nice, but the sauce was a bit too generic tasting, reminding me of Sweet Baby Ray's or something similar. The rice and beans were standard. This was also OK. Next came some dessert. There was first the $12.95 Rosemary Churros served with dulce de leche & chocolate dips. While I'm not sure if it worked, the rosemary did add a unique smell and a bit of flavor, and at least it wasn't generic. The churros themselves were hot, and the sauces were standard, with my preference being the dulce de leche. I also ordered a Champurrado for $7.95, which was fine. It wasn't as thick as I expected, though perhaps the style is a bit different than the champurrados I rarely buy from Mexican street carts. The chocolate flavor was very nice, though, and I like that it wasn't too sweet. Another person got a $4 Alfajor, which I got a bite of, which was standard. This place is a bit hard to rate. The two soups were wonderful, I liked the appetizers, and I found a couple of the other dishes just OK. Overall, it was a good meal, but I'm not craving to go back. This would be the perfect 3.5, but I'll round up as that doesn't exist.
