We love this place so much that we had our pre-wedding dinner here. The staff took our 15 strong party with good grace and service. We still try to eat here once a fortnight at least.
The food is great. The choices are fun. There are some old standards I fall back on. If I'm really hungry - the Vietnamese chicken or pork with rice is always a good filler, and both come with a sweet, light sauce. There are also the noodle soups, which are graded on the board according to their spiciness. My husband always goes for the ultra spicy, which only my nose seems to regret. If I'm feeling unadventurous, I go with what I know is good - the beef noodle soup, and the spicy beef noodle soup are both good. As are any of the flat noodle dishes, the laksas, the dumplings - everything I've tried has been top notch. I've never had the duck, maybe I'll have that next time.
They're really kid friendly here - we have a messy toddler, and the staff never look irritated, are always really helpful and try to stop us cleaning up the noodles on the floor, chair and everywhere.
I don't know about the drinks being expensive - drinks are expensive everywhere, aren't they? If you want four ginger beers go to the supermarket next door and drink them after your meal, don't get irritated that a business is trying to make ends meet. I often have a cider or beer with my meal here and it never breaks the bank, but it does mean that I don't have to drive home. Happy days.
Honestly, probably my favourite restaurant in Hobart because it is unpretentious, friendly, and the meals are affordable. A family of three eats for just over $30 and that's with us rocking the cold rolls or spring rolls to start. read more
