The pork buns were tiny and watery, with gelatinous, flavourless minced pork inside, but honestly…read morethey were the highlight of the meal - things just went downhill from there.
I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, expecting Sichuan level spiciness. The menu described it as strips of chicken breast, stir fried with Sichuan pepper, peanut, chilli, and mixed vegetables. Instead what I received was deep fried chicken in a thick salty gelatinous sauce, without even a hint of chilli.
We also ordered the fried rice, which contained a total of two extremely oily prawns, a heap of celery and unpeeled, thickly sliced carrots, and the sweet and sour pork, which was very heavy on the sweet, and seriously lacking in the sour.
The service also left much to be desired. To begin with, after being seated, they took away the chopsticks that the table had been set with, replacing them with knives and forks, assuming that being westerners, we'd not want them. They were quite taken aback when we asked for them back. They then gave us cracked champagne flutes for our bottle of BYO white wine (though they replaced these with proper glasses after we asked for them), and proceeded to get meals out to several people in the restaurant who came in well after we did, before we even saw an entree. After the main was served, they did not once come over to check how the meal was, or to see if we needed anything, or even to top up our water glasses (they didn't leave a bottle for the table).
All in all, not just some of the worst Chinese food I have ever had, but one of the worst dining experiences I have had.
