Fine Chinese dining. Impeccable food, service, atmosphere. A bit pricey, approximately A$50pp, but not your average Chinese restaurant.

Just like all other chinse restaurant, the service is attentive and on point. Me Wah also has a location in the casino next door so I came to the main location on a Sunday. I slowly became hangry about the 1 o'clock seating when I got there around noon. Little do I know I was assumed to be the dim sum customer when I just wanted a la cart.... oh well. They do have an EXTENSIVE list of wine and liquor to share. I was pleasantly surprised by the tassie local dry pear cider...also one the coals valley pinot noir - alcoholic much? Thanks for letting me wait for an hour! Alright so let's talk about food. I grew up in china and visit often so my expectation is unattenable. I had the blue eyed trevalla soup and the gan bian snake beans. Honestly I came for the snake beans and was expected a creative way to cook it to show how long it is to American. The flavor is more on the salty side but it's delicious - and yea it was blistered so check that. Soup was light and salty but good. At least I feel good eating it. I just don't remember anything being so salty in mainland ;) you can put me in jail for making that comment. tips for improvement: Notify your customer that they have the option not to go for dim sum. Classy - amazing service - beautiful space. The menu was enticing, the tea was hot, and the food was delicately spectacular. The roast pork was the best I've had! The price was great for the experience and quality. We paid the same amount as we did at Asian Gourmet on the Pier and it was about 1 bajillion times better. read more

Very, very, very pricey! But the food was amazing, as good as anything I've had in HK, Shanghai, Singapore, etc. Seafood was so fresh. Crab hot pot ($42) was amazing. Braised abalone entree ($45 for 150g) was heavenly, just wished there was more of it. Even the simple fish soup ($12) was so full of flavour. Definitely a place to come if you have the cash (or expense account) and need to impress. Its more of a dressy/formal place than casual. The service was excellent and impeccable. This may be the best Yum Cha place I have been to in Australia. Our family goes to Yum Cha a lot so we know what's what here even though we are not Chinese. The service was amazing. All the staff was very pleasant. All of the dishes were home made. A smaller selection than some of the more fancy places I gave been to but everything was superb. When you live fresh seafood, it does not get better than Chinese seafood from the tank to your plate. When I was in Hobart this week, the concierge recommended Me Wah as a must. Location, unremarkable. Setting, beautiful. Service, immaculate. Looked through the extensive menu and decided on crayfish sashimi with a second course cooked in garlic sauce. Other dishes included crayfish, mushroom and truffle dumplings in master stock, a perfectly cooked gluten free salt and pepper squid etc... The feature was the crayfish and at 1.7kg was very indulgent. Presentation was ok and the Sashimi was sliced a bit odd. (Golden century in Sydney does a much better job) and my wife was a little concerned when the crayfish started moving mid meal. But when they took it away and came back with the second course... OMG. Soooo good. One of the best we had and even asked to take home the little bit we could not finish. Special mention for the excellent service and Daniel who recommended the Riesling to match the sashimi (I couldn't say no after his careful consideration and extensive description of the wine) the sparkling rain water was special too. Had my dinner there today. The food was ok but I didn't really like the service. Waiter only promote the expensive dishes which I did order. When I tried to reserve the crab tat I wanted, he said the one I original wanted at $42 was available but those fresh ones that need to 24hrs preorder need min 3kg. Bill also circled and big font the word TIP.... Silly! Address at Yelp also not updated and brought me to old Restaurent which is 3.5km away. Been here two times. Food is great as is the service. Attentive and Friendly staff. Something of a surprise for us, coming from Sydney. Hubby is from HK and expects good Cantonese fair when he comes across it. This place meets his expectations, however he was disappointed they don't have a supper menu! Both times we've been here (once two years ago and most recently, last month), we've ordered off the menu. They've happily obliged - not sure if that's through sweet talking Cantonese as I don't understand a word of it! :) Each time we've had some tasty dishes. One thing we ordered twice was a dry egg noodle - once with lobster and the other with abalone. The lobsters needed a bit of XO sauce and the Abalone was a bit overpowering. This one supposed to be the BEST Chinese in Australia? Pretentious and expensive foods. More of Chinglish food with Aussie flavors. My local Tassie guests were impressed, and they thought the sweet and sour port was fantastic, which said a lot. A cheap local eat in Sydney costs less than half is better than this expensive tripe. read more

Ordered takeaway on a busy Friday night. Delicious sweet and sour pork with the crispy pork placed in a separate bag was a great thought. Fried rice and macadamia chicken were also fantastic. The takeaway orders are organised in a separate almost 'drive thru' section away from the main dining room. This is great as you don't feel in the way. The lady in charge of expediting was extremely courteous, thorough and helpful. Every meat section of the menu has a descriptor of where in Tasmania it is sourced from too, which I think is a nice touch. read more
