Local neighbourhood pub in the middle of nowhere Champlain Heights. Basically I found this place by accident. Definitely off the beaten path. Parking is available in the strip mall lot, as well as on the street. The place is quite dated. Ambience is pretty quiet, and is great for chatting over some beer and maybe watching a sports game. Staff were very friendly. The only thing that threw me off is the beer pricing. A 14oz beer costs almost 60% more than a 12oz beer. See menu photos. Who in their right mind would order a 12oz? Their Happy Hour is an Unhappy Hour. Bored non smiling bartender/waitperson. Get ready for a long wait with little or no quests in. So understaffed I have to clean my your table, and get the menus from the bar because the quest experience from start to finish was consistently awful. Drinks took 20 minutes arrive. The food menu is very basic and like heated up food from Costco. Staff are friendly but at the same time difficult to get service. The best server they had was fired. So much potential for this location. The place was not even half full on a Friday night when a hockey game was on. If the food menu was improved to make it a place to go to for locals for rather than a place to drink beer. Most pubs that are successful are because of food as well as the drinks. Awesome little local pub offering your favourite pub fare and friendly service. We just moved to the neighbourhood so we are excited to make this our go-to spot. We stopped in on Friday for their 75cent wing deal. They have sooo many flavours to choose from! We opted for the honey garlic, Caribbean jerk, hot and the suicide hot wings. They were all great! Good size, flavour and perfectly crispy. We will definitely be back to try the other flavours. We also ordered a side of the deep fried pickles which were tasty too. Our server (Claudia) was very friendly and took good care of us. She was warm and welcoming. So glad that this little gem is in the neighbourhood. read more

i love this place. seeing some bad reviews from years ago, but i just started going within the past 6 months and i haven't had the same problems. it's always clean, staff are very friendly, and food/drinks are really nice. their food/drink selection isn't crazy (cheaper than most other places i've been), but the classic pub vibes and small (usually quiet) atmosphere makes up for it. we usually end up paying about $50 for two people. they host trivia and karaoke weekly too, which is fun if you're into it. read more

Find the prices a bit high for what is being served. Food has been typically poor quality - think deep fried battered wings - and not even a little side of celery and carrot sticks with them, everything on the menu is kinda brown and deep fried, straight from the freezer bag into the deep fryer is cheap and easy. It's been that way for years now, despite many management changes. Now we were in the other day, to see if anything had changed. Not really. New management recently so hopefully they can up the good offerings in near future. It doesn't need to be a sophisticated or even a vast menu...How about some veggies, homemade burgers on decent buns, with fresh toppings? Good pub grub? Fingers crossed and I'm begging because we can walk here, but if they can't feed me decent food... It's a comfy classic pub vibe, a little shabby but clean enough, there's keno, it was an older crowd and by older I mean the senior guy next to us was having an afternoon nap, and we were the youngest in the place by a decade at least - we are 40 somethings! Most patrons seemed like regulars. Our server was pleasant enough, and it was fairly busy so things were slow but she was handling the bar and service single handedly so understandable. This could be a good spot if the food options see an update, and maybe a couple local craft beers on tap? They just had Red Racer ale. Not sure what the Village lager was. Hidden away as it is in the funny little neighbourhood of Champlain Heights, the Village Pub is a great find. It's as cozy a pub as you would want to find, with authentically pubby decor, good service, a respectable list of drafts, and entrees in the meat 'n' two veg tradition. I was here with a large-ish group for a friend's birthday, so was impressed with the servers' ability to keep track of all the separate checks as well as the quick drink service for new arrivals. The food was just OK. Meat was pretty good (I had the bangers and mash), and the gravy tasted homemade, but the mashed potatoes were bland and the other veggies were plain, large and underdone, but edible. However, the fries I stole off my friend's plate were crispy and tasty, and my other friend had a club sandwich that was so thick it seemed to fly apart as she tried to eat it. But then again, good pub food is really just sort of a bonus - it's the beer and the atmosphere that count most. And I had a good time and would completely go back when I'm again on the crazy winding trails of Champlain Heights. read more

Had the displeasure of going to this place. I know the neighborhood well and it is like stepping back to the 70's but this Pub does need to do an update on all levels. Food was barely palatable, beer selection was weak and the cleanliness was on a 1/2 out of 10 (the mens washroom stank like a flophouse from the 50's). Funny that this area was the former garbage dump for the City of Vancouver and I would suggest if the owners of this pub continue with their present status that they change the name to the Village Dump! read more

The daily specials are very good value for the price. All specials (soups and entrees) are home made daily. I see below reviews and if you order nachos and deep Fried food, guess what, that's what you'll get. But damn, those are good too. Chicken wings, fries, hash browns and Saratoga chips are all made in house and from local produce. The beef dip buns are from a local bakery and ordered as needed. There is all day breakfast, Ukrainian breakfast, chilli fries and so much more. Oh and don't forget, being a pub, there is ice cold beer, drinks, wine and great people. A wretched hive of alcoholic scum. This place is maybe only convenient for residents in the neighborhood. The "food" should come with a warning label. It is greasy, overcooked, uninspired and bland. The pints aren't like any other pint glasses from any other bar in the city. I'd be surprised if they were even 14 ounces. Offsales are completely overpriced, almost $20 for an 8-pack of Bud or Kokanee. The good beers are even more. This is not the place to go to during a hockey game. The clientele is loud and boorish. Two large blowhards in the back always yelling and whooping at the top of their lungs, and the barflies are often slurring, stumbling idiots. I've seen fights break out in this place at least twice. The only saving grace is a large number of big screens so you can watch the game from pretty much any seat in the house, and the price for the mini-jugs of beer isn't bad. One of the owners, the tall guy with the european accent is a decent fellow. His partner, however, the balding guy is rude to customers, arrogant and tells you to go somewhere else if you don't like the food or the price of their constantly short-poured drinks. Avoid this place. It deserves to go under. read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for years and although I've been here 3 times in my life, it has changed names and ownership a lot. I went there with my cousin today for some pub food. It's nothing steller, just your standard pub grease and beer with decor to match, total trailer pub which is a novetly on it's own. The service wasn't steller, however, it was pub service, therefore, we knew what to expect. Even though we had a great time and there was an awesome live band playing, it gets a low rating 'cause well...it's a neighborhood pub with somewhat good service and pub grease. I live in the area and its great having a pub so close by. New owners now and I hope they change the menu. Food is overpriced and small portions. Was there recently and ordered their nachos, food is ok but I noticed that their portions have shrunk yet again in size and quite expensive for what you get. Thirty years ago we lived just across the street and never went. Twenty-eight years later we moved back into the neighbourhood and now it is a regular favourite. It is what a local should be. Unpretentious, good staff, good food and good beer. I would stay away. I used to work here and I've seen what takes place behind the scenes. I was laid off over a disagreement about poor customer service. The owner of the pub was (and probably still is) forcing the staff to serve stale flat beer to customers. You know that beer foam that comes out of a keg that is either new off the truck and needs to settle, or needs to be changed? He would make us keep it then pour it in peoples beer when they weren't looking! Even if it wasn't the same type of draft! Even after it had been sitting for hours! When I confronted him about the fact that it was wrong on so many levels and I refused to do it, what is his reply? Infront of everyone even customers, "You could piss in it and they wouldn't be able to tell the difference" He laid me off because he didn't have a legitimate reason to fire me... he just didn't like me for sticking up for the patrons. Who are amazing people. I've spent 6 months job searching and haven't gotten anything. I had a funny feeling the owner was giving out bad references on my behalf. So we staged a fake reference call and sure enough he was! I plan on seeing them in court for damages, slander and discrimination. read more

This is where the tap beer is flat, the staff visibly can't wait to get out of there and the $10 burgers smell funny and have a very gooey bun. Now are buns suppose to melt under the meat? Please, stay away from this joint if you want a good meal and a fun time. Try Marine Pub instead, just a short drive into Burnaby. read more

I have stopped in here off and on over the years only because of location. It has gone thru several ownership changes/name changes over the years. Each and every time I go I think to myself as I'm leaving that it will be my last. The food has always been underwhelming at a premium cost and the beer has as a rule been flat more than not. The only saving grace is that the staff have usually been friendly and service okay. Well, I stopped in here again today, again because it's convenient, thinking I'll just have a beer. Well, the waitress came and took my order (remember it was only a beer) and for the next 20 minutes preceded to talk with the patrons who were there when I came in. She was sitting down at the table of patrons near the entrance talking with them as I walked out the door with not a word from her. Absolutely the last time I go there.
