Half of my veggie plate (which I'd started eating in the car). 2 meats, 3 veggies & 2 cornbread muffins for under $8!

This is what I call southern comfort food. It's not my Grandma's soul food, which would require some ham hocks or smoked turkey, extra melanin and heavy seasoning but it does the job! Village Cafeteria offer 5-6 daily "meats", ranging from stuffed bell peppers, Swedish meatballs & chicken livers, to meatloaf, chicken & dumplings and country fried steak. Plus soup, over a dozen veggies and homemade desserts! I first discovered Village Cafeteria when I was hiking in Fort Mountain State Park. I couldn't believe how much food you got for such a cheap price! I dined in and it was clean and comfortable. That was back when I could eat delicious fried chicken, scrumptious fried okra, sugary sweet potato soufflé and get away with it. The black eyed peas were delish too! This time, I tried to be more reasonable and reach for the lemon baked chicken but alas, it wasn't meant to be. The lady behind the counter recommended the chicken casserole. It was shredded with sour cream and jazzed up with a crumbled Ritz cracker topping. Exactly what I didn't need! The sample she gave me was melt in your mouth good, and I was in. I started eating it in the car! Best of all, my meat, 3 veggies and 2 cornbread muffins were only $7.94! The carrots & cabbage were definitely boiled (not steamed) and the green beans could have used more seasoning. But the huge portions, free parking and friendly service (except for the cashier, who looked annoyed and charged me 15 cents for water) made up for it. I deducted one star because none of the staff actually wore their masks. They all had them pulled down below their chins so they could talk freely, sigh... All in all, l will return to Village Cafeteria if I'm in the vicinity and I would definitely recommend!

On my way with family to a reunion in Knoxville and stopped here for lunch. The staff was so friendly and the food was amazing. I'm gluten free so I had a baked potato and veggies and my family tried all sorts of food and homemade desserts. Everyone truly enjoyed it!

Not a family oriented restaurant! Very rude people! Won't spend my money there. Don't like to serve the First Responders.

Edna's Restaurant - Fried chicken with 2 sides

My wife and I had noticed Edna's several times during drives through north Georgia but they were…read morealways closed. Drove by Saturday, saw they were open, and decided to give it a try. I got chicken (by far the best thing about this meal; it was actually pretty good), pinto beans and collared greens. The sides were served in these tiny cups that probably contained about a half of what one would usually consider a decent portion. The beans were okay (I hit a few that were undercooked to the point of being crunchy. But good grief, the collard greens tasted like someone had squirted bug spray in them. Utterly inedible. My wife tried one bite and instantly regretted it. I put the tiny bowl full of greens on the edge of the table, hoping our server would notice they were untouched and would offer a substitute. Nope. Didn't see him again until the end of the meal, and he had no curiosity about why they were uneaten. My wife got meat loaf, mashed potatoes and green beans. Her observations: green beans out of a can, mashed potatoes meh, meat loaf "edible." She asked the server when he brought our plates if she could have some butter and he pointed to a rack of little containers and said, "There." She didn't have on her glasses and didn't realize those little packets did NOT contain butter but instead some hideous fake butter spread that was old and awful. Turned the okay potatoes inedible. Once again, the server ignored that they were untouched. Service leaves a lot to be desired. The employees seem nice and earnest but don't seem to grasp what service should entail. If they see that a customer hasn't touched some of their meal, they should make some attempt to make it right. At this point I'm sure you, dear reader, have reached the correct conclusion that we will never be back to, nor can we recommend, Edna's.

The team concept of service ensures that the guests are taken care of but not in a pushy manner. My mom's choice of meatloaf came with a huge chunk of meat and no way she was going to eat it all . I tried the smoked wings. They had a great taste and were plump with meat. The skillet fried okra and a side of field peas finished the plate off. We got some dessert to go with sinful delight, cherry cobbler and walnut chocolate chip pie. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend this local place currently at 36 years serving great food. Jeanette is definitely an asset, she is one of a kind friendly and thorough. Coming from Florida, I remember telling my kids oh my gosh, you would not believe how nice this woman was in the drive-through. Times have changed in Florida and it's nice to come up here and get true southern hospitality. I moved to Oakwood about eight months ago and decided to try Curt's and was blown away with not only the taste of the food, but the quantity that they give you. I have never been dissatisfied with anything that I have eaten from Curt's, both breakfast and lunch. I normally get a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on buttered toast, sometimes just two fried eggs with an order of bacon. As you can see from the picture, they are not chintzy. For lunch, I have tried their steak and gravy, their amazing fried chicken, the grilled chicken, a BLT wrap, grilled cheese, the best cheesy Mac-n-cheese, etc. and the list goes on. The lunches are usually enough food to cut in half and eat for dinner as well. So glad I discovered this little gem and going through the drive-through and being greeted by Jeanette, makes all the difference in the world on my visits. Keep it up Curt's!
