It did not taste fishy at all and the rye bread had the best buttery crisp edges. River Street Tavern is cozy, casual and it has a compact lay out. You get to relax and can have a conversation over a few beers and good food. Place gets busy but is not loud. Whether you're one of the locals or just passing by, leave your mark by pinning a dollar bill to the ceiling.

I don't want to mention him by name because maybe he was simply having a bad evening, but the attitude was incredibly difficult to ignore and it affected the experience. To be fair, everyone else we interacted with was very kind and pleasant, so this seemed isolated to our experience with our server. For a restaurant with such a beautiful property and food at this level, we expected the service to match. We weren't expecting anything extravagant, but for an anniversary dinner, we expected to feel welcomed and taken care of. Unfortunately, we didn't get that. That being said, I would still recommend visiting. The property is absolutely stunning and the food was excellent, so I don't want our experience with one server to take away from what is otherwise a beautiful restaurant. I just felt it was worth mentioning because the service unfortunately made what should have been a really special anniversary dinner feel underwhelming.

Great local business run by two sisters. The original business began over 30 years ago and is now run by the daughters of the original founder. Sue's famous fried chicken is still on the menu and is absolutely delicious!!! During lunch they serve home-style soul food including fried chicken, cubed steak in gravy, (real) mashed potatoes, homemade cornbread muffins, and more. On Friday and Saturday nights they're serving grill items such as a variety of steaks, chicken, pork chops, and seafood. The atmosphere is like no other. As soon as you walk in you're welcomed with warm, inviting faces, flavorful smells, and a sense of community. This place is definitely worth visiting next time you're in Ellijay, Georgia! read more
