I always get my bike tuned up here, they do an amazing job. There's nothing like a ride after Village Bikes has done their magic! Their pickup service is wonderful, I really appreciated. They're also speedy with sudden emergency repairs. A few times I showed up an hour before closing due to an unexpected repair need - they took me right away and had me riding again before they closed! My only quibble is that they do seem pricier than other bike shops when it comes to gear and accessories. read more

Village bikes recently repaired my older Norco bicycle, and I was blown away by the service received. I had gear shift issues, and they carefully explained the options, from a fairly expensive rebuild, to a clean up and repair. I took the simpler option, but still they did the extras like tightening the brakes and pumping up the tires. I've had it back a week, and it performs like new. Always reliable and affordable. Despite their growing popularity and just opened 2nd branch....they've managed to retain their friendly neighbourhood bike persona. Staff are very helpful and wont even charge for simple bike adjustments. Service charges are reasonable and they always give a little extra. Ive been a loyal client thru the yrs. bought all our family bikes here ever since kids were small. and now they service our road bikes! Thats a pretty ling and strong relationship. left my bike minor tune up ( $89) okay. new rubber for both tires ( keep it cheap ) $30 plus installation, okay. I was called my bike was ready. I was told when I picked it up " the price increased because THEY decided I needed new brake cables. I was paying cash? how did THEY know I had enough money. I get on the bike and the gears DO NOT shift well. I take it back ... now annoyed that the price increased without authorization but, it trash workmanship. Two test rides later I am told the cable slipped, yeah that's what I paid for. No test ride, now the seat is not set for me ( Male) but, I need to test ride. A week later, first time to ride, there are squeaks everywhere. I adjust the seat. YOU KNOW WHAT THEY TOLD ME, POOR QUAILITY BIKE. LEAVE IT WITH US AND WE' LL SEE WHAT WE CAN DO. I KNOW YOU CAN ADD EXPENSE WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION. YOU WILL NOT TEST RIDE, YOU WILL NOT RE-ADJUST MY BIKE TO FIT ME AND YOU TELL ME AFTER THE ALL THIS I HAVE A ( Raleigh ) POOR QUALITY BIKE. Whenever I visit any bike shop, they are usually busy and if you want anything repaired, there is at least a 1 month wait. I expected this because of COVID. So this morning, we went for a bike ride and my bike's disc brakes were rubbing and I knew there was no chance it will be fixed on a Sunday morning. But we tried our luck and went to Village Bikes since we were having coffee at Rocanini. To my surprise there was 2 people in front of me but they were all taken care of within 2 mins. How was that possible? I see there were about 5 guys working and eager to help every customer. They were efficient and friendly. We were in and out within 10 minutes. I recently moved to Richmond and I was looking for a local bike shop where I can take my bikes. I took a road bike to Village Bikes for servicing and it was ready the same day. I got some work done on my drivetrain, a new chain, basic tune up, new bar tape,etc. Reasonable pricing and convenient for me since I live only 10 minutes away. I do a lot of my own maintenance but I when I need a skilled bike technician, I'm glad that Billage Bikes is in my neighbourhood. I feel comfortable bringing my bike here. read more

I brought a new carbon frame into their shop last week hoping they could swap my campagnolo athena groupset over from my current bike, install the headset and fork, route cables and grease and torque everything to the proper specs I provided on a printout from the manufacturer's website and that I'd get the rest to save them time. Since it's my first carbon frame and I'm unfamiliar with torque settings and carbon greases this seemed safer than making a mistake doing it myself.  I asked if their mechanic was familiar with internally routed carbon monocoque frames and modern racing kit and whether he had a torque wrench with a 2.5mm hex bit.  The answer was yes to both and that he was a shimano certified mechanic with 35 years experience including as a race team mechanic so I figured and was assured it would be fine.  They quoted me their usual rate of $60/hour but said their mechanic was very quick and experienced with carbon and it shouldn't take more than three hours.   A few days later the mechanic left a message on my machine saying it was taking longer than anticipated and that my chain was filthy. I called back to ask how it was coming and apparently it took the whole day (At $60/hour). When I asked to make sure all the tolerances were being followed he insisted he didn't have nor need to use a torque wrench.  The next day I came in and sat on it in the store.  The seat post slid down, making a scraping carbon sound of the partially tightened screws scratching the seatpost.  Great, scratched carbon seatpost.  That's probably still structurally sound, though, right?   When I got home I noticed that the rear derailleur was a bit banged up and the barrel adjuster was missing along with the fork mount for my cycling computer.  No offer was made to help track it down when I emailed them. Where the heck do I track down a replacement campy barrel adjuster?  I brought it into a reputable performance shop in Vancouver where they confirmed the work was subpar and within 30 seconds noticed the rear derailleur and rear brake cables were wrapped around each other, along with the front housing being mounted on the opposite sides. Perhaps this is why the internal routing took them so long? They also quoted me $370 less for the work. No difficulty for them.  No excuses about the frame quality.  No seven hours of labour. And that's what you should look for when seeking out the right bike shop. Back to Village Bikes, it's a cute building right in historic Steveston and they're friendly enough until they decide they don't like you but they need to admit that their mechanic is mediocre and turn away projects that are too complex for their tiny, ill-equipped workshop hidden in the back.  I have a better set up in my garage and that's where I should have taken the time to do it myself. No offer for partial reimbursement or help finding my missing parts in their shop has been made. I am on my own and would have no more support than having hired someone off craigslist. read more

My first experience 2-3 years ago was terrible. I had a know it all mechanic that told me that my son's bike was garbage and we didn't know what we were talking about (a thorn proof tube). I swore never to return but last week after paying too much at Steveston Bicycle & Mobility I gave it another try. I'm glad I did. The mechanic was gracious and quickly repaired the bike while we waited. The price was also very reasonable and he made us feel comfortable as he gave us some appreciated maintenance tips while he did the repair (tips that did not involve buying product as his intentions were safety rather than selling). Having just bought an older bike on Craigslist, I decided to get it tuned up to make sure it wouldn't kill me on a ride. My dad's had his bike tuned up here and recommended the shop. It's a very small shop, but it's cozy and quaint like the rest of Steveston. I dropped my bike off on Wednesday afternoon and was told it would be 3-4 days until it was ready. Not a problem. It was ready for pick up by Sunday morning. When I went to pick it up, the guy working (young, blondish hair) quickly went over what was fixed and had me on my way. A basic tune up is $45 ($50 with tax). When I realized that there was still something that needed adjusting and that I couldn't safely get the bike home, I took it back into the shop and they had no problem fixing the issue and holding it for me for another day. For convenience and proximity to home, this is a pretty neat little shop. read more

This business is NOT great because I purchased a used bike for my daughter and it does not meet her current needs exactly and they are refusing any kind of return. I paid the price they asked but before I did I asked what a similar bike sells for new and he said over $200 which made $120 sound like a deal. Turns out the bike I bought is only $135 new. My bad for relying on a small shop to be honest. They refused to deal in any way to take this bike back claiming they just can't do that. I will not take any more business there as I am so disappointed in the honesty and integrity of the shop. Just bought a brand new bike from Village Bikes yesterday after a friend recommended the place to me. I have been searching for a new bike for the past couple of years and some other stores I had hit up in Vancouver had either really pushy staff (who tried to get me to buy bikes that I had no interest in) or staff that didn't help me at all until I asked. The guys at Village Bikes were very knowledgeable, helpful and totally laid back! I ended up loving a bike they recommended (which was also cheaper than other places I had looked at!) and they happily installed some lights I had brought with me for free! Great customer service! :) I stopped by the store today have my bike chain oiled. Brett was very friendly and quick to help. The job took no time at all - really! When, while reaching for my credit card, I asked how much I owed him, he smiled kindly and said that there was no charge. As I insisted that he put a price on his prompt service, he declined. There was a tip jar on the counter, but, i carried no cash. So, I thanked Brett sincerely and I left the store without paying... The store may have lost a few dollars on my brief visit today, but it certainly gained a very good reputation with me. I went there to rent a bike with my son. He is on the point of buying a Giant Roamer and wanted a final longer test ride to confirm his choice. Village Bikes offers these bikes for rent and for sale, so one-stop shopping, right? I asked at the counter which bikes they have for rent and was told, curtly, by the wispy bearded dude "they're outside, go look at 'em. Outside, there were apparently only half a dozen bikes in the rental pool, but one one was a Giant Roamer, unfortunately the wrong size. Wispy-bearded dude appeared at this point and I asked him if they had that particular model bike in a medium. "You can rent a blue one, a red one or a green one", a hand waved at the sparse collection, which did, admittedly contain those colours. Being of an age where I have learned to ignore such smartarsedness, I then enquired whether the six or so bikes outside represented their total rental fleet. "There's more in back", he reluctantly allowed and even more reluctantly went back to check if one of those fit the bill. None did and he wandered off to find some cooler or more interesting customers and we wandered off to find a better bike shop. Unfortunately, they seem to have a monopoly in Steveston, perhaps explaining their lack of interest in even basic levels of customer service. read more

I asked him to show me how to use the lock because I had never used one before and I am new to biking. He happily showed me how to use the lock I purchased so that I would be comfortable and confident using it on my own. read more
