I used to always like villas food and service but tonight I ordered Alfredo and a salad to be delivered I was hung up on had to call back I was on hold longer than it took to order my meal after a hr I called to see where my meal was and of course had to wait on hold again before I could even speak my food finally arrived after a hr and a half after ordering and was cold the person that took was order was snotty the guy who delivered my meal was a nice guy handed me my food and opened my door for me since my hands was full and I was waiting outside for it to come I used to eat here a lot in the late early 90s and service never used to be this bad I don't know if it was a bad day or what but I was not happy with my service read more

This place was a while in the re-making. They've just moved from across the street. They renovated this building for about a year. But, they did an awesome job! The inside appearance is wonderful. The small dining room is small and quaint. So, let's talk pizza because that is why we are here. Well, wifey talked me into the Spaghetti and meatball pizza. (Wifey: "It was a meal all wrapped up in a slice!" ‼) Seemed a bit odd.... Well, it was! But, a delicious odd! What a unique specialty pizza to put together. They also have a few others most definitely worth coming back to try. We loved the place and will be returning soon to sample other things. Anyway, we should have stopped by sooner, but, we got here. Our server was really pleasant and helpful and she kindly hooked us up with side salads even though the kitchen part of the restaurant was closed and it was down to late night pizza service! I used to like villa sauce. But lately it tasted like club cracker with ketchup and paprika seasoning with burnt pepperoni and burnt cheese and sausage on top. I called them the next day, and I still ate it because I was hungry, but it tasted like a pizza that was put back in the oven with very little dried-up sauce and burnt at the top and it was cold. I was nice and told her to go ahead because she seems busy to get the call, she had online and I will wait. She was sarcastic and holler out what do you want lady. I told her nicely about my situation with the pizza and was asking for her to only not to send me recooked pizza anymore because it gave me extreme heartburn. She screamed out your not getting a refund and why didn't you call last night. I said I decided to call you this morning and maybe I was going to forget about it but it gave me extreme heartburn. I then asked for the manager she replied she was the manager. I ask her for her first and last name . She got smart and said ki ki, I said what? she replied again Ki Ki, I said that's your first and last name. She said what do you want Lady? I said again please don't send me recooked pizza again and she hung up the phone. I have 30 coupons for a free pizza in which I could get 3 free pizzas I have never used them because I don't drive and even have asked the manager what difference it makes to deliver the free pizza if I am willing to pay for the delivery charge. He still requested for me to have to come in to get the free pizza. Now they have it that you have to get a $10.00 order in order to receive your pizza free for delivery. This is wrong if you are entitled to a free pizza, you should get it if you are still willing to pay for delivery charge and not have to get anything extra. They have nasty attitudes and unfair business practice. I will no longer eat here; there is other places that appreciate my business here in Mattoon. And there are lots of better choices than Villa Pizza that serve better food and choices. No one should have to encounter nasty customer service. read more

I must say this is my go to pizza when I come to town the pizza is the best pizza I've ever eaten! The service is great. I normally have delivery but from my understanding they're moving into a different building not even one block away, but I definitely know that the ambience will be amazing as it always has from what I remember when I was a kid plenty of parking as well. Tonight's experience troubles me. One, I've been a long standing customer of VILLA PIZZA. ordered a small. The wait was fine the employees not so. One of the guys behind the window thought it's ok working with food and not wearing a mask..I made the girl aware of it and she corrected it. However the looks I've gotten from the good old boys who work there could have killed me. I don't care! Than the other employee had no gloves on. Preparing pizza as well as the two young boys who touch the pizza by cutting them. One of them obviously had a cough attack and carried on after he coughed in his hands! Omg. At that point I was the only one in there. I again said something . The daughter however who is the manager there excused the whole thing by saying they need to breath! It's ok take the mask off. Obviously she didn't listen . The guy never had his mask on! When I preceded telling her about the kid, she totally ignored me. Ask if I don't want my pizza? I said No! By then 2 guys where standing there. One called me an asshole..I looked at him and said you are cheap and a little man! Ofcourse no mask on..I left! If you're from Mattoon villa is the place for pizza! Here's the issue, I'm not and for that I'm giving Villa a solid 6.8 on the Dave Portnoy rating scale. This pizza has no flop but that's because of the thickness of the dough. The ratio between dough/ sauce/ cheese is 5/2/4, just way off. At times the pizza can be good and the cheese bread is amazing! It has the potential but has never reached its peak. They are an amazing family restaurant but sometimes that's just not enough. This use to be our go to pizza place! Pizza was great, we enjoyed the breakfast buffet. Food was good! Our experiences the last few months have not been good. We will not return to the breakfast buffet. We went often but things progressively got worse. Our last visit we were ignored. Plates were never cleared, nobody came by our table except to drop off coffee and a bill. We had to flag down different servers for silverware, creamer, more coffee, more water. I hate to admit that we didn't even tip as we really didn't have anyone to tip. The tables in the back room were so jammed in there that we had to sit on one side of the table as we couldn't even pull the chairs on the other side out. Last night we got delivery and part of our order was missing. Our option was to have it brought by as soon as they could or we could have a credit for it and have to use it within two weeks. We chose to have it delivered because the two week timeframe seemed silly. As it came about an hour and a half after the first delivery we put it straight into the fridge. This afternoon we went to go heat it up to discover it wasn't even the right item. You would think after forgetting the item they would make sure it was right. We ordered mozzarella sticks and they sent cheese bread. Things seem to be going downhill there quickly. And we aren't the only ones who have noticed.There seems to be no concern for quality control. Villa Pizza really is "as good as it gets!" This is great thin crust pizza. It's not New York style thin, and it's a little thicker than Monicals, but the crust is thinner than most. The sauce is their own special mix and is robust compared to most. The best part is they load-up the toppings and COVER it with cheese. I think the secret is it's baked in a very unique bread baker's oven. After the old place burned down it took some time to find the right oven, get a new place built, and to train the cooks. After being open for a good amount of time, the pizza is back to it's standard greatness. Anyone who grew up in Mattoon will come back to town just to get this pizza. It's unique and soooo good that people just crave it. When our old friends come in for a reunion, they always want Villa Pizza during the visit. They are open for lunch and serve carry-out slices during the lunch hours. They also have a good selection of baked sandwiches. And be sure to order a Big Tony! It's huge! read more

I have grown up on pizza, everyone knows Chicago makes the best pizza not New York. I had the chance to take some of this ZA down and it was pretty good better than the chain pizza. For mattoon this is as good as it gets, very cheesy and generous on the ingredients but it's cut new York style big fat slices.. When I lived in Mattoon, this was probably my favorite restaurant. It was right down the road from my house. I especially liked what they had on the buffet, but I don't think I got to the buffet often, mostly when it was on the weekends, I guess. They also served Italian Beef on the buffet in addition to a wide variety of pizzas, pasta and sauces. Service was always attentive, and the pizza itself is one of my favorites, although for the reason why, I can't say. VILLA makes the best pizza pie I have ever eaten. I would put it up against any I have ever tried in Chicago. Never been to New York but I don't really think that would change my mind either...Would love to go to Sicily some day, just to make sure... The Arena Family came to town from Chicago in the 70's and acquired the Villa Pizza from an authentic Sicilian Father (Sammy) & Son (Sarafino)- Cant remember their last name-they could barely speak English, but they knew how to make PIZZA! Big Tony Arena moved his family down here and they turned the Villa into a full blown, authentic Family Style Italian Restaurant. Interesting Fact: Big Tony was an actual NFL veteran who played for Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears, back in the leather helmet days when men were TOUGH and concussions hadn't been invented yet... Getting back to Pizza-The Villa has been THE BEST for many years. Sadly the Villa burned to the ground (ruining my birthday several years ago!). They started back as carry out only for a couple of years, but have recently re-opened the Family Style Villa Pizza and Italian Restaurant, and the world is now right again. Tip-I totally recommend the Villa Special! But we also love to order just the cheese pizza sometimes, just because you can really taste how good the sauce is that way.
