I thought the food was pretty good. The service was really amazing. The menu was quite vast. I seem to have quite a bit of everything.

This place is a cute local restaurant but unfortunately for me I think I ordered the wrong entree. I always appreciate a good fried chicken so I was immediately drawn to order that. Unfortunately the breading lacked proper seasoning so I tasted more oil than anything. I ended up pulling off the breading and eating the chicken without it. On the plus side they give you a lot of food. My meal came with 3 sides. I got mashed potatoes corn and a side salad with my meal. The sides weren't anything special but tasted good. I will say if you come here get the country fried steak. My sister got that and I tried a bite. Let me tell you that was delicious! My star rating may have been different had I order that instead. Nonetheless this is a decent restaurant with a very large menu. You are surely to find something you may like here. read more

Huge menu. The Corned Beef Skillet was excellent. Basically the same thing you'd get elsewhere as a Corned Beef breakfast, just put together differently. And that somehow changes it up... Service was friendly and good. Prices were reasonable and helpings were large. Hubby ordered a sweet and sour chicken special that was really good too! Just the right amount of sweet, with lots of juicy chicken. Wish I would've seen the sign advertising the mimosas BEFORE I was standing there paying the bill! read more

Stopped in for lunch with our granddaughter today. She has breakfast, strawberry French toast combo, scrambled eggs and sausage links. She loved it and ate almost every bit. My husband got a loaded burger and said it was cooked perfect. I had a taco salad wrap..i ate them whole thing!! I don't care what kind of wrap it is they make them perfect. I gave away my fries to my husband because i was not going to share that wrap. The only part they really could improve is that our server never came to check on us. We stopped here for a late lunch and enjoyed it very much. We had an 11-year-old, a 94-year-old and my middle- aged self and the vast menu worked for all. The breakfast all day was a hit. The food is very good, but more expensive than expected. Sodas are $3.49 for a small glass. every time we've been they never give a refill because they are busy and the servers don't tend to come back after you get your food. The food itself has always been very good, and the portions are excellent. But the service is lackluster and prices are higher than advertised. Should be $$ marked online. read more

Perfect for what it is. If you're trying to get 5 star quality food, it may not be the place, but it's not like they charge an arm and a leg either. I regularly go up there on Thursdays and some weekends. I go in knowing whatever I order won't be the best thing in the world (I don't expect it to be), but it will be a decent meal, friendly staff, and a good place to bring the family. I say this because yes I've had problems sometimes from the kitchen when they were busy and they were never rude or offended as I wasn't. These things happen in smaller kitchens serving an entire room full of customers. Some of you guys need to calm down $19 for two meals is actually a pretty good price I spend more on a large pizza and I know with 100% confidence if the issue had been brought to their attention it would have been resolved to the best of their ability. We love visiting Red Apple. The prices are great and the wait staff is always attentive and kind. And they really try to make it a point to remember those who visit them frequently. The family who owns the restaurant are great. If there are issues with your visit, they will take care of you. They have a great variety of food. Can't go wrong with many of their breakfast options. I am in town to visit family for the holidays, and my crowd of 6 met an old school friend for breakfast. All was well until my 12, 10 and 8year-old went to use the restroom. On the way back they spotted the gaming room (I had no idea such a thing existed in this establishment, trashy much?) and my kids thought it was an arcade for kids (we don't have "adult gamerooms" where we live). They were stopped at the door by a male employee who told them "you can't go in, there are cameras everywhere and if you go in the police will come for you." I have NO problem with my kids being kept from that room and corrected, but don't threaten well-behaved kids who don't know any better with the cops. read more

Driving through rural Illinois, you can find little gems of Americana. Red Apple Restaurant is one of those! We ate here Sunday late morning. There was a wait but it was just a few easy minutes. Menu offers a lot of choices. Standard breakfast food, burgers, pasta, fish, salads. Half of our group ordered breakfast. French toast, pancakes, hash browns, eggs and sausage. All delicious. My French toast was particularly good. A hint of vanilla, perfectly golden, thick slices of French toast. My hash browns were more like browned mashed potatoes with a very mealy texture. They still tasted wonderful. Pancake, eggs, sausage patties were all very good. Pancakes were medium size and fluffy! Eggs and sausage are hard to mess up and these were just as you'd expect. The lunch crowd had different variations of burgers. All of them were big, juicy. They are very accommodating in giving you exactly the toppings you want for the burger. I always believe a place moves from good to great depending on their French fries. Red Apple offers big steak fries. Everyone ate most of their fries and all agreed the fries were "all right" (said with a shrug). Too bad. Service was very prompt and attentive. The restaurant itself is the family-run, next-to-the-highway diner you'd expect. Overall, we had a good, hot, satisfying meal. Four grown-ups and two kids ate for $39, not including tip. Prices are very reasonable, wait staff very friendly, but the food is just tolerable. We have eaten there twice, first we had breakfast there, wasn't impressed. We decided to give them another chance and had lunch there yesterday. We won't be going back for dinner! They need to not buy prepackaged food! Wife and I had lunch there today. I had the philly and my wife had a bacon cheese burger. The trash on the outside of the building should have a red flag but we tried it anyway. The philly was literally a 6 oz ribeye on a bun cooked into leather with canned mushrooms and sautéed onions. No peppers. The burger had to be a frozen patty from Walmart or some cheap bulk order company. We ate part of it and then declined the 'to go' box. Lunch was almost $19. Meh. Nothing special. Prices ok, but food very bland. I ordered Chicken Parmesan. Chicken ok, decent breading but the pasta was so bland I didn't finish it. Salad looked fresh, but was swimming in the water at the bottom of the bowl. Plus in the peak of tomato season there was one cherry tomato! Husband had the Walleye and shrimp Friday special. He said the walleye was good, but the shrimp was bland, the green beans were waxy (probably canned), and the baked potato wasn't completely cooked. We were there for a group gathering. Took dad & husband there for Father's Day. There were eight of us. Some had breakfast, waffles, pancakes, hash browns with green peppers & onions, mashed potatoes, gravy, country fried steak, chicken fingers were huge 2 were filing, real chicken! Good fish & would never have shared that prime rib, oh that was good! Thanks to my sister Kim...she likes to taste everything so she & her family order different things to try. Oh my....everything was delicious. Never thought I would like doing that but it was a terrific way to know what you would want more the next time you went. Every thing was good so have to go back more often to get something different every time! Bavarian pie, Lemon Meringue could taste real lemon in it, chocolate cake to die for, Bavarian waffle with strawberries, ice cream & lots of whipped cream on top...awesome. Yeah, some had been frozen, not for sure from where but wish could buy myself! Everything came out right after soup and salad was finishing up. Great customer service. You don't get just one waitress, everyone checks on you! Kept our drinks full! We loved it! Well worth the money! Two of us, good sized dinner, pie & all we could drink (other than beer & my husband had two) and it was less than $28, brought home two chicken strips and half order of mashed potatoes, for my lunch tomorrow!
