This place was fantastic! My husband and I had sampled some Peruvian food at the Tucson meet yourself festival a couple of years back and fell in love with the cuisine. Since then we anxiously await the festival every year to have anticuchos de Corazon and Peruvian ceviche. This place has both and more!!! The meal started with delicious banana or plantain chips with some crispy corn kernels (not popcorn) and a savory and flavorful green sauce. We then had the lomo saltado wonton appetizer and were not disappointed. It came with a side of very fresh and tasty guacamole. I ordered the leche de tigre small ceviche cup and the anticuchos de corazon that came with more of the delicious green sauce and confit potatoes. My husband had the red snapper. It came with calimari rings, shrimp, mussels, clams, baby octopus and a sophisticated and savory sauce. We can't wait to come back and try more of their selections! If you are a fan of Peruvian food, this is the place to go! Great ambiance, good service and a nice selection of pisco sour drinks. We hope to try some of those on our next trip. Was really excited to go here for valentine's day but left completely disappointed. A few days before, they decided to do only a limited menu for the outrageous price of $64 a person. At this point it was too late to get reservations anywhere else. The food was mediocre, portions were tiny, chicken was dry, and it all came out way too fast. We let this slide because we wanted to enioy the night. Then when we received the check we saw that our waiter gave himself a $35 tip, 20%, even though it was written no where that this would be added. $225 bill for 2 pre fix menus and a $40 bottle of wine, this is more than we've ever spent at actual fine dining restaurants with amazing food. Messaged the owner on facebook about it and didnt receive a response so decided we needed to post on here. It's wrong to charge 20% tip without warning the customers, especially for a table of 2. read more

This restaurant opened 3 weeks ago and is better than good. The location has had several previous restaurants and is a very nice space. We have had Peruvian food several times and their food is among the best we have experienced. The Pisco cocktails, appetizers and entrees my wife and I had were perfect. The menu needs some explanation but the staff is up to the challenge. The entrees looked like they were in a photo shoot and tasted just as good. The Papa Rellena appetizer was fantastic. We look forward to a return visit to try several other menu items and other cocktails. . The only oversite is that we were given a check without having a chance to hear about Peruvian deserts. read more

Two stars because they tried to make it right, otherwise 1 star for food AND service. We went here on my birthday. I made reservations for 5 at 7pm. I did this intentionally because we are big people & we have a lefty. Basically, I didn't want to be crammed at a small table, and I actually said this to the person who answered the phone and took the reservation. He didn't sound like he knew what I was talking about so I didn't push the issue and just said, five people, for the sake of simplifying the conversation. I also asked about bringing a cake in because it was a birthday dinner and he said that was fine; I asked about a "cake service/cutting fee" which some fancier establishments will charge you for if you're bringing outside food. Again, he didn't know what I was talking about so I left it alone. When we arrived at the restaurant we were seated at a very crowded four top table. I'm just going to fast forward. The food. The only things on the menu we weren't pissed about ordering were the appetizers My sister in laws food comes out and we are all staring at it like what the hell is this, we asked the kitchen staff who brought it out if it was in fact the "crispy whole fish" to which he replied yes as he was walking away. It was a fu***** fillet. Anyone with eyes knew it wasn't what she ordered. My brothers food literally tasted like 4 or 5 different kinds of napkin soup for all intents and purposes. My god mothers lamb was my favorite. Nothing spectacular by any stretch of the imagination, but it wasn't fu***d up either. My shrimp head soup was awful. Not a flake or granule of salt in the entire dish, in fact they rinsed even the natural saltiness of the shrimp out. They tasted like rubber bands. And I spit one out because it was a bad shrimp. The poached egg in it was executed perfectly but who wants to eat anything without any seasoning of any kind?! Not any of my party. It was a really wild experience. The waiter was useless the entire night. Not knowledgeable or helpful in the selection of our food OR our drinks. Not friendly. Everybody I think was really taken back by the entire experience and nobody wanted to ruin my birthday dinner by making an issue of the poor food and poor service so we all just nibbles around our entrees and got out of there ASAP. Once we left we spoke about the experience and I decided to call about it the next day. I had to wait for a call back from the owner or one of them and by the time she called back my sister in law had gotten very sick (we think because she ate two of the shrimp from my entree) The owner was apologetic and offered to give us $40 back for the fact that my entree had bad shrimp and my sister in laws entree actually was NOT in fact what she ordered because the kitchen was out of what she actually ordered but nobody bothered to inform us of this and give her the option of choosing something else. She also ended up giving a $50 gift card to the restaurant when I went to pick up the refund. Again, very nice gesture. I've gone back since the birthday dinner and ordered drinks and appetizers. Turns out the birthday dinner was not an isolated incident. Mediocre at best. And conceptually speaking a lot of stuff just doesn't make sense. If you are going to go here anyways and enjoy lime and an abundance of salt, the Leche De Tigre was delicious. read more

I was so excited to try this place but now that I did I can check it off and not return. I had the lamb shank which was good but the carrots on the plate were so small it was sad! The quinoa was soupy and though it had good flavor seem like it was too much. My husband had the steak which was so thin it was comical. The rice and beans were mushy and had absolutely no flavor. We could have had a better steak any where else in Tucson. Such a disappointment to eat such a small steak when you don't eat red meat often. The service was great once we were seated. When we walked in and stood there a young man came over and didn't even say hello. Just walked up to us and stood there. We then asked for a seat for dinner. It was rather weird and not very welcoming. The waiter was good and Checked on us. The drinks were good. Fantastic small cozy restaurant in prime location. Great wine selection an a fantastic menu of Peruvian dishes. The descriptions were quite helpful since I'm not too knowledgeable on Peruvian dishes and the pictures clarified it all. The decor is clean and crisp and modern. The bar is tasteful and cozy. The staff is attentive and unobtrusive. The food was spectacular particularly the Tigers Milk Ceviche and the lamb shank served over creamy quinoa. Exquisite peruvian cuisine.... Frida, our waitress / co owner / yelp responder made sure we h ad a bang up start to our evening. We had 2 ceviches (brilliantly paired with sweet potatoe and hominy), loma saltado dumplings, cava root, rotisserie chicken (smokey, dark, juicy) and hand made lucma icecream. I just wanted to thank Frida and the crew at Villa Peru for a wonderful dining experience. We were celebrating a special occasion and Frida helped to make it a wonderful experience for my gf's first visit to Villa Peru. Frida was pulling double duty catering to us and working the bar. Her pisco sour was excellent and her meal recommendations were spot on. I highly recommend the Corazón Anticuchos (veal heart skewers) , Arroz con Mariscos and the Cordero Norteño. At the end of the night, Frida went above and beyond and delivered a birthday message on my gf's favorite dessert plate. I am not sure why they have such great reviews but that's why we decided to meet here for dinner. I made a reservation for 7 PM and asked for a table outside which they confirmed. I arrived a few minutes before seven and I was told that the table was not ready and they had no idea when it would be ready because the people who were sitting there were not leaving. After some confusion they decided that it would be OK for us to eat at a table inside and they would let us know when the table outside became available which never happened. The server that was assigned to us was apparently new but made no attempt to be helpful in any way. He was unable to describe any of the dishes or give us much guidance on what to order. We ordered an appetizer which was tasteless. The presentation was lovely though. We both ordered the rotisserie chicken. It looked divine sitting on the plate but was so loaded with salt it was inedible. When we complained to our less than helpful server he told us he would tell the manager and we never heard much more about that. He did come over and offer us a complimentary dessert which was some type of fried donut that was so "doughy" we could not eat it. I really wanted to like this restaurant so I am very disappointed and the management is non existent. read more

The menu ranges from traditional Peruvian food to more modern takes on Latin classics! The ceviche is to die for and you have never tried better braised lamb shanks! The skewer dishes or "anticuchos" are also mouth-watering delicious....and the seafood and meat are all so fresh. I want to give this spot a better review because I like what they are trying to be, but it's not really there yet. The food is what took me there and honestly, the physical menu itself was beautiful but the food was a bit lackluster. The location inside is a long narrow space which is decorated nicely and on trend but the outside area where we sat was not as nice and is right up against the parking lot, so it didn't have the feel of beautiful outdoor experience I always wish for. Not sure It's a spot I'd make the effort to go back to anytime soon as the food just didn't excite me that much, but I wouldn't be opposed to going if it ended up there. read more

Hmm. Lovely setting in a long narrow restaurant. I went for lunch and wanted something light. I ordered the Palta a la Reina, described as avocado stuffed with some cooked veggies and boiled egg. It was priced at $9. To add a bit more protein to the dish, I ordered the add-on of shrimp for an additional $3. What arrived was half an avocado filled with the veggies with one shrimp on top. One average size shrimp. The dish was tasty and light, but $9 for an avocado half and $3 for one shrimp? That seemed laughable. So, on food quality, I would give Villa Peru 4.5 stars. But the value delivered just isn't up to those prices. Hence my 3 stars. read more

We recently went to Villa Peru for a birthday celebration. Having lived in South America, and visiting Peru many times, we are familiar with "authentic" Peruvian food. This is the best peruvian restaurantin town! The prices are fair for the quality of food. The Ceviches are great. The Lomo is great. The meat falls right off the bone on the lamb!
