Went there looking for a place to have a family dinner for my mother's birthday. The gardens and the view are terrific. BUT... the food We ordered chicken marsala and shrimp picatta. Chicken was a little overcooked, as were the shrimp. Not great, but forgivable. Sides were pasta and a mixed vegetable medley, pretty standard fare, but the pasta had a funny flavor and the potatoes in the vegetable medley were not fully cooked. NOW the worst part....as we finished our meal we saw ROACHES (plural) crawling from the chair seat to the top of the chair and back again on the seat across from me. When we told our server she seems unconcerned, as if if happened a lot. I've eaten here a few times because it's one of the local favorites. The food has always been good, salad bar is good and you can tell that the food is homemade. However, this last visit was HORRIBLE and I will never be visiting again. ROACHES!! I saw at least seven roaches on the walls and in the crevice of the windows. Also, near their bar on the ceiling is mold. I am so disappointed in one of our city's favorites, not sure what happened but in my opinion, the doors need to be shut and locked until everything is sanitary! DISGUSTING!! read more

My wife and I went a few days before Valentine's Day..because we don't like to go out to dinner on V-Day. We have never been to Villa Capri and have always wanted to try it out. We had early reservations so when we got there only 3-4 tables had customers and we were able to get a window table. The view is so nice. While seated, you have a view of a nice courtyard/ garden/ out door seating area that edges right up to Clear Lake. It's a romantic environment, especially right before & after sunset. They had some Frank Sinatra-style music playing that was perfect for an Italian Restaurant. I think their sound system and speakers could probably use an update but that's me being picky. The service was great, we had a waiter named Mike that was attentive enough but not overbearing (We gave him an excellent tip). He had good advice and brought me an Old Fashioned which was better than I expected. I had the Veal Piccata and my wife the Eggplant Parmesan...both were delicious. I have never, and will never order eggplant anywhere but seriously enjoyed sampling my wife's food... it was THAT good. Anyways, give them a try! Prices are a little bit over the average of any restaurant, but I think is reasonable for the delicious food, great service and beautiful view of the lake. Outside in the patio is very nice, inside is not that amazing, but the place is on renovations, so probably in a few months the whole restaurant will be pretty amazing. I stopped by for lunch, and was sorely disappointed! The buffet was sparse, the food was old, burnt, and tasteless. So sad, Villa Capri was/ has been an icon in the Clear Lake Area. Now it's fallen into hard times, and wasn't worth the price of 12.00 for for lunch buffet. I hope they can fix their lack of efforts. I probably will try dinner in the future, but lunch is not going to happen again. The owner/ operator was so busy on his iPhone he aimlessly attended to the bill. Unfortunately it was indicative of the whole dinning experience. My waiter was very attentive, and other members of the staff never allowed my tea glass to empty. Came here for dinner one Saturday night with my wife for a date night. The view of the bay is picture perfect. That's the only positive they having going. We sat down to a wobbly table that needed adjustment to stay even. Unfortunately it smells of mildew inside and the decor is dreadful. The salad bar was the best thing we ate during our visit. I had their Chicken Alfredo and the sauce just tasted off. It didn't taste freshly cooked nor did it smell like it. Our waitress was delightful and made sure our drinks were full the entire time. Shooo be doo be doo! With the location right on the water and local plus tourist crowd this place should be a gold mine. But instead it got stuck in the '60s or '70s. Even Sinatra, who sang his heart out during my entire dining experience couldn't bridge the expanse of time forgotten in this otherwise charming place. At first glance there's a lot to like, the views, the wood details, and so forth. But then the stench of the carpet hits you and there's nothing special about the colors, or the hanging baskets of live plants. Everything needs to be updated. And a salad bar in a nice restaurant in 2016? Send in Robert Irvine and the team. The place was 25% of capacity on Wednesday night. I had 3 servers, Mario to start who brought me a giant Martini, and took my order. Then the waiter next to my table took care of me for a few minutes. Then finally a cheerful blonde waitress. The salad bar was ho hum, and I would rather have had a small plate of a quality made salad or antipasto than that. The salad bar was old, showed it's wear, and had a bag (yes a bag) of cut up bread laying on it. I already had a couple pieces of the garlic bread at the table, which was not very good. I got the Red Snapper special, which was actually pretty tasty. It appeared to be baked or broiled plain, and served in a light tomato broth, with a little garlic to it. There was also some lump crab in this dish and angel hair pasta plus a few jumbo shrimp. It was all pretty tasty, although the snapper was was in fact rather plain, and the shrimp were large, but tasted a little funny, like they might not have been as fresh as you would expect. Over all I would give the dish 4 out of 5. Salad and bread were failure, Martini was good, and service was, well, plentiful. Of note, no salt or pepper on the table and when I asked for fresh pepper I was delivered a pepper mill which was left on the table. Also, no offer for dessert. This place reminds me of restaurants I went to as a kid, and going here is in fact a time warp. The food is okay, but if changes aren't made this one will slip away. read more

If you ever want to be part of an Italian family, the owners (Franco and his brother Giuseppe) of this hole-in-the-wall will welcome you to theirs. Franco is known to walk around to each of the tables and talk with the guests. He also helped bring my two plates from the buffet line to my table, which he didn't have to (treat me like the Asian Queen that I am...kidding!). The Sunday brunch (11am to 3pm) is $18.95 ($29.95 on certain holidays) and that includes one mimosa ($15 for a carafe)! Coffee, espresso, tea, and soda with refills are also included in that buffet price. The buffet varies from week to week. The Sunday we visited, they had all sorts of pastas, rice, and meats. My faves from the buffet were the steamed mussels with garlic and lemon butter, the meatballs, clam spaghetti, and the seasoned rice. There is also a salad bar with fresh fruits and veggies and a desserts table with a variety of pastries (e.g. Italian cream cake, carrot cake, tiramisu, key lime pie, cheese cake, etc). These also vary from week to week. The back patio is a great place to sit. It has a nice garden and a view of Clear Lake. You could also dock your boat there and grab a bite to eat. Private banquet rooms are also available. They have had plenty of receptions (and even weddings) in the garden area. Frenchie's is their sister restaurant and also the hubby's fave Italian in the SE Houston area. I usually get great service and a "Ciao Bella!" greeting from Franco. read more

The two brothers that founded this place are the nicest people on the earth and thier family is the best. On a slow night they have a family guitar that they will play for you if you ask. Its got beautiful paintings depicting the love of thier mother with a man and how they traveled from the Isle of Capri to Clear lake. The love song that goes with this story is as romantic as the story. Try the Tiramisu and Pink sauce on any pasta but we like Penne. Everything is good. Since it so rich we cant eat here often but it is memorable every time. read more

This place is interesting. When i walked in, shortly after they opened I ASSUMED, there was a heavy chemical smells. I think they must have done the floors or something. The building is older, nothing special inside, but outside has an amazing view. We had a little party , which we were promptly sat outside. Our service was a younger blonde lady that was so sweet. After she sat us another female server came up confronting her about the table location. I thought that was kind of awkward in the middle of me wording my wine. i started out with a salad bar which is nothing special. AT ALL. I ordered the eggplant dish which was good and large portions. Could service two with no problems. We had a little hiccup with another persons food, which the server handled nicely. The view outside is nice. I think they should get some sort of mosquito system or something though. I would not return to this location. Two brothers run italian restaurants in Clear Lake and they couldn't be any different! Frenchie's is classic Italian food, delicious, mostly handmade, yum! Villa Capri...isn't. The food here is sub-par, the menu needs help, there's no creativity or love felt in the food or the service, and the prices are high. The salad bar is so standard and the out-of-a-bottle dressings are shameful; dressing is not hard. Seriously? The pasta is not light and fluffy; usually overcooked and thick. The sauces are salty and heavy. It's like eating at Carabbas. That's not bad (for some people) but certainly not authentic and not what I like at all. The saddest part is that Villa Capri used to be really good, many years ago. I'm not sure what happened but now it looks (and smells) like a rundown, outdated mockery of Italian cuisine. They also have Casa Mia, which is right next door to Villa Capri where you can have weddings, banquets, etc. A beautiful view overlooking Clear Lake. You can drive up by car or boat. Nice little salad bar. Excellent food. Fried calimari - perfetto. They also serve the chocolate almond cake(Torta Caprese) that they serve at Frenchies. Their Italian creme cake is pure heaven. Their cannolis make my knees weak. The best cappuccino and espresso in the Bay Area. I will keep it short and sweet.... This place has the best Italian food in the area. It is tucked away, but not hidden. Great food, GORGEOUS view, and very professional, yet friendly staff. I especially love the big round table to the right where all the family, friends, and staff gather to talk, eat, or just casually greet you as you walk in. A touch of class and home all in one. I have been here for dates, special occassions, family dinners, and a wedding. Saturday, July 25, 2009 we found ourselves in Clear Lake around dinnertime. I fired up the laptop and went directly to YELP. Mama was in the mood for seafood and I was in the mood for food. Frenchie's Italian had some great reviews and they offered seafood as well as traditional Italian fare so we punched them in to the navigation system and off we went. Upon arrival, we discovered Frenchie's is located at the end of a strip center. Yea it's been around for 30 years and Neil Armstrong eats there but it was Saturday night, I wasn't wearing a t-shirt and flip flops for a change, and mama wanted some "atmosphere". So we closed the computer and decided to wing it. We drove toward the water and let the chips fall where they may. While driving I spotted a sign for Villa Capri. An Italian restaurant right on clear lake. We decided we would go check it out and grab a drink and an appetizer at a minimum. Again this was July in Houston and when the gal asked if we wanted a table inside or out some spasm took over my brain and I said Outside please. To our delight the breeze off the lake and the Miller Lite made it a pleasant evening. We were all set to grab a drink and some calamari and keep on crawling until our waiter read the specials for the evening. We both ended up with the grilled snapper over angel hair pasta topped with several huge shrimp and about 4 ounces of jumbo lump crab meat (26.95). The portions are generous and we took quite a bit home. Some of mamas actually made it till the next day. Hey it's a long drive back to The Woodlands, by time we arrived home I was ready for the rest of my seafood pasta. It doesn't suck cold either. The following morning I logged on and to my delight we found out that Villa Capri is owned by the same family as Frenchies. The two brothers who run the waterfront restaurant could not be more friendly. I asked one of them on the way out if they had a web-site and he screamed. I came here for our office Christmas party. I had previously been here years ago and do not recall it being anything spectacular, and this recent visit confirmed what I remembered. The food is super bland, and here's the thing, I don't use salt so for me to say something is bland is the freakin' truth. I was also annoyed that I was enjoying my champs and the waitress took it while I wasn't looking, and I was not done with it!! So I got a freebie because of that. Excellent food, the site is unique with a very nice terrace and garden, there is even shade for your car in the large parking . The service is fast and attentive. The highlight of visiting this restaurant = as we were walking in, my husband leaned in close to me and said with perfect execution - "Tonight...on Kitchen Nightmares" That first impression was confirmed. This is not a place we would've ever endeavored to visit of our own volition...but we were along for the ride with family to attend a shower. All I can say is "wow"...I kept hallucinating Gordon yelling and cursing in the kitchen...it was indeed a surreal experience from the decor, to the tidiness (or lack of) of the restroom, to the dirty dishes, the self service salad bar, and the all but obscenely terrible entrees. There were seafood crêpes (I still shudder at even the thought), chicken fettuccine alfredo, and lasagna...there were others we didn't try. My sub contracting supervisor took myself and the other employees out for a working lunch today, and I was relieved when I discovered that we were NOT going to Mario's!! However, I have been to Villa Capri once before and had the buffet: it was not good (but I just chalked it up to me not liking buffets in general). So today I ordered off of the menu and asked for the Grilled Fish with pasta. I also opted for angel hair vs. penne pasta. Well, when the waiter brought out my dish, I asked him "This is the grilled fish???" and he assured me that it was. However, the fish was not grilled, but rather lightly battered and fried, and the angel hair pasta was swimming in butter. The fish was tasteless, even after I added salt (twice), pepper and lemon juice. The pasta was o.k., but as I mentioned prior, it was swimming in butter. Normally the butter would not have bothered me, but as of late I can barely button my pants, so I was trying to order something light. So much for that!!! read more

I want to like this place so bad! But after eating here last weekend for Sunday brunch, I am sad to say that I can't justify spending money here again. Just like many places with beautiful views, the food falls mighty short (see the Oasis in Austin). This was a huge surprise for me as I love and adore Frenchie's, owned by the same family. I had a wonderful graduation party at their event space, Casa Maria, and was hoping the restaurant would bring us some of the same, but sadly it wasn't. Granted, I only had a Caesar Salad (dry chicken, dressing too tangy, huge pieces of lettuce) but I did get a chance to try some Eggplant Parmesan and brisket and sadly, nothing was impressive. Even the minestrone was farmstyle but very bland. Our water glasses were never filled, the orange juice is the cheap sugary drink, not actual OJ, and it took us 25 minutes to get bread! Eggplant parmesan was cheesy but very greasy and underseasoned. I also think they need to knock about $5 off everything on the menu. I will probably come back for the ambiance and the views, but I will probably eat before and sip on some wine instead. read more

I have been visiting this place for five years now, I love the food, the cafe expresso latte, and the beautiful and amazing view. If you come here try to get a table outside or next to the windows. The food was OK, but nothing special. I really didn't feel like it was any different then going to the Olive Garden. I have also had their buffet for lunch, which again was alright. We went there for a co-worker's farewell lunch, and yes, the view is AWESOME! Even though they were hit pretty hard by Ike, the water view alone is great, and the grounds are beautiful. We even went outside to take some group pictures, it was so pretty. So... now, to the food... I got the buffet, and I gotta say it was pretty standard Italian buffet fare. The bleu cheese dressing was pretty good, and the Alfredo sauce was great, but that's all that struck me as especially good. We ordered bruschetta as an appetizer the bread was burnt and (I never thought I'd say this) there was to much garlic. As I walked the door the first impression was not good. The place really needs a new rug and a paint job. There was no one to greet me so I walked to the back of the restaurant. Then, I immediately understood why our friends love to meet there for brunch. The place is full of French windows the looks in to the bay and has also tables in the outside garden and it's just very nice. The buffet for the brunch had lamb, meat, an omelet station, salad bar a dessert station and plenty of plates with pasta. Almost all the plates had shrimp so the options for me were kind of limited but everyone said it was delicious. The owner manned the omelet station and was extremely friendly. Once the check arrived it was extremely reasonable. You get what you pay for. read more

I actually quite enjoy this place. Fantastic view, great food. However, I called ahead to make sure I could bring my dog. No problem they say. I arrive, get my table, and ask again about the dog. "As long as he's taken around the patio" no problem! Get seated and two different staff members confront me saying it's "against health code". I make them aware I called. Another staff member comes out and tells me it's against health code. A bit upset, I make them aware they need to educate their entire staff to be on the same page. As I walk out, their kitchen door is wide open, leading to the outside. So all the bugs and critters by the water can get in the kitchen, but I can't have my dog on the patio? I came here knowing the patio view was beautiful. We went for the Sunday brunch buffet at $19.95 a person. The buffet consisted of two slabs of meet, pork chops, and beef. There were other sides, which had mashed potatoes, ricotta stuffed shells, veggies (smothered in butter) and many other stuff along with they're own salad bar and a dessert table. None of the items had labels so you don't know what you're getting and if you like something then you can't tell others what it was. The main reason I do enjoy going here is because of the patio. I believe if this restaurant did not have the location it has now then it would not do well on food alone and would probably be forced to shut down. Also, the waitress we had was very nice and wonderful but it seemed as if she was the only one. We barely could get we attention unless we waived her down or something because she was too busy with everyone else. read more

First time I've eaten here but it will not be the last. The place is great with the added outdoor dining, pier and outside bar and the views from outside and inside of Clear Lake are nice. The salad bar has the good stuff on it and the garbanzo beans were delicious. The food was just over the top, authentic Italian; the veal was outstanding as were the perfectly seared scallops. We love Frenchy's restaurant & were SUPER excited to try Frenchy's sister restaurant, Villa Capri. The grounds are well maintained & it's a beautiful place to watch the sunset or the boats go by. You can dine al fresco in various locations throughout out the garden. There's lots of hard scape with several places to sit. There is a dock but it looks closed. We did try to come by boat earlier. 1t was a bit challenging finding the front door. We went to 4 doors & never thru the front door which is on the the far left of the far left building. We started with "large blue crab claws" . There were plenty of claws & they were small. We also had the bruschetta. I was expecting the same yummy bruschetta & Ceasar salad we got at Frenchy's. (Thinking they share some of the same recipes). ....I'm going to say Frenchy's is best for authentic, tasty, melt in your mouth, darn good Italian. And Villa Capri has more charm & ambiance. The food was good but Frenchy's is much tastier. We each got an entrée, one Shrimp Capri, large shrimp cooked perfect w/ a leek & mushroom sauce. Another was Chicken Romano w/ baby artichokes. But they both tasted like the same sauce. We both commented on missing the garlic. It seemed they didn't have any garlic in any of the dishes. We finished w/ the chocolate mouse cake. They were out of Tiramisu as well as gelato. The cake was moist & really rich, definitely very chocolaty, a side of vanilla ice cream would make this dessert divine. The service was attentive & we liked our waiter. I think he did a great job. The hostess was a sweetheart & very personable. Just wish Frenchy's chef would tutor the Villa Capri chefs. read more
