I wanted to try out this place as I couldn't find many Vietnamese restaurants here that made Hue spicy noodle soup (bún bò Huế) . Unfortunately, I could already tell that I was not going to enjoy my bowl when it was served. The broth was super clear and I just saw small drops of chili oil, red flags of what bun Bo hue should look like. The broth tasted very bland and there were only a few pieces of pork in my bowl. It honestly tasted more like pho, if anything. I don't think I'll be going back to this place. Service was very quick and the lady that served us was very nice though, just wanted to point that out, which is why I gave an extra star to my review. read more

Vietnamese Asian is a classic hole in the wall centrally located in Omaha. It gets three stars only because it does Pho REALLY well, but that is about it. The spring rolls are good, but not a big fan of the pad Thai and such. The rare Pho with extra noodles is fabulous. Staff is courteous and helpful. The booths are comfy and you can usually get in and out quickly so it is great for a lunch break. This is a go to when it is cold, you don't feel 100% and need a pick me up soup get the pho here instead of chicken soup. You won't regret it. read more

This was a great place to eat. I had the spring rolls and brisket pho which was really great and would definitely eat again. I also ordered the boba which I would definitely come back for even without food. Being Vietnamese, my father and I enjoy speaking to the staff of Vietnamese restaurants in our native tongue. As we were chatting with our waiter, we asked "what's good on the menu?" to which he replied "nothing really haha". Red flag #1. We decided to order our go-tos at Viet restaurants, Phở Đặc Biệt for my dad and Cơm sườn nướng for me. The pho broth was weak and tasted as if it was reconstituted from a powder packet. My dish consisted of a tiny tough pork chop atop of hard rice that seemed to have been reheated in a microwave. Red flags #2 & 3. Needless to say, we were disappointed and will not return. read more

Well if anything tells you a restaurant is good like forgetting to take photos of the food, here's your sign :-) went one evening around 4:30 before the dinner rush, so I was able to order right away and we got our food in about 10-15 minutes. I don't expect a quick food delivery for good food, so the wait was perfect! I got the crispy pork vermicelli, the pork was indeed crispy, cooked to perfection, and still moist! My hubby had the combo pho and he said it was fantastic, no complaints there! We also tried the egg rolls and oh my, coming out hot and crispy and just the right size for a quick snack! I also ended up getting a Vietnamese coffee, because you can't go to a Vietnamese restaurant and not get coffee, right?! So even though it was almost 5 pm, I took some sips and it took all my willpower to save it for the next morning! It was just as good then, on my morning walk to give me a little boost of energy! This place is old school. Old school menus, old school decor and old school prices. We had beef pho (delicious aromatic broth), chicken curry noodle soup (warming, flavorful and healthy-seeming) and fried Vietnamese egg rolls served with crisp lettuce and cilantro for wrapping and fish sauce for dipping (really tasty). The pork Bánh Mì lacked pickled veggies, mayonnaise and pate (the best parts of a Bánh Mì in my opinion). This version was okay but not something I would seek out again. The service was fine. This place could use a good scrub down. It seems like it has not been deep cleaned in a looooooong time. If the dining room is grungy, I am concerned about the places patrons don't see. read more

I may or may not have taken pictures of the entire 100+ item menu, then transcribed this into a Microsoft Word file for future reference. Originally I think this was an the beginnings of an idea that I'd work my way through the entire menu (a realistic goal since we've already eaten here 25+ times) but not something I ended up doing. Still, it's nice for planning take-out orders... the two times we've done that. This is our go-to weeknight dinner spot when nobody remembered to plan anything else. Or when the craving for vermicelli hits. It's super casual, no-nonsense, cheap and delicious! Order by number, a concept that will ease the ordering stress for those not familiar with terminology, and don't forget to peruse the Thai side of the menu in the back of the booklet. It's located in a strip mall next to the Furniture Mart, nestled between a pedicure shop and the Trek store, and is a family restaurant through and through (they're occasionally kids playing games and watching TV in the dining room). Not much on ambiance, and probably not the best choice for a first date, but if you know that's what you're getting into, it's no problem. Over the course of many, many, many dinners here, we've branched out occasionally. But my staple order items are usually as follows: Appetizers - Shrimp Spring Rolls Soups - Meat ball Beverages - Vietnamese Coffee, cheap beers. I've been meaning to try the Salty Lemonade also... This restaurant was stop #3 on my quest to try all the pho places in Omaha. Although barely qualifying as a hole in the wall setting like pho viet, it certainly doesn't have the trend setting atmosphere of pho Saigon. I remembered it to be a bit better in the past compared to today's visit. Or, perhaps, my pho taste has become a lot more attuned (and snobbish?) since immersing myself in Vietnamese food and culture these last 3 years and learning the tricks of making it myself from the mothers and grandmothers of my immigrant friends. The broth was clear, but lacked distinct flavor and was by that definition a little bland. I could tell there was msg, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but you shouldn't sub the beef flavor for msg enhancement. The bowl size was a little smaller than average, but the bowl was also cheaper than average at a very cheap $6.50. There was missing garnishes that I consider a must-basil and culantro. I know they didn't have it before either when I was here years ago. Otherwise, yet another good stop for "ok" pho but nothing that blows me out of the water. read more

Located in a small shopping plaza off 72nd, it seems like this place doesn't get much attention. The inside feels almost antique or vintage but has a nice atmosphere regardless. My friends and I come here for some pretty good, cheap food. This time, I ordered a Thai Tea and a Combination Beef Pho. Both were good, and fairly cheap. The pho is served with bean sprouts, cilantro, and some lime slices, with Hoisin sauce, Sriracha and Shoyu already on the table. I usually put a dab of each in with my pho and taste to test. The soup is hot and savory and each bowl comes with a fair amount of meat and noodles. The food here isn't outstanding, but is worth it for the price. read more

This restaurant was our introduction to vietnamese food years ago when our friends took us there for a hungover lunch. VA may not be known for its decor but its FOOD, prices and service are more than enough reason to go...and go again and again... If we lived in Omaha, we'd be here weekly. But, alas, we do not. So we have to settle on going just about every time we go to Omaha. read more

Yesterday as I was in my way to the Asian market, I saw this restaurant and thought I should ck this place out. After shopping, I was cold and hungry and it was a great combo to grab a bowl of pho. So glad I made the stop! This place actually uses brisket in their pho tai and the broth was full of flavor. I even took one to-go for my husband and he enjoyed it as well. Will def be our pho spot! I've been patronizing this restaurant forever and it never disappoints. Granted, there is no appealing ambience but who cares. And the comments about the door being smudged are nothing short of pettiness. The service is attentive and the food is absolutely wonderful and fresh. My personal favorite is the pad thai and the sweet potato tempera with shrimp, but every dish I've tried has been 5 stars. So if you're thinking about wowing a date by taking them to a fancy restaurant skip this one. If you are wanting remarkably good food at fair prices, then you simply cannot go wrong. This place is a great go-to for some cheap, tasty pho. It may not be fancy, but the soup is hot, fresh, and comes with all the right add-ins (cilantro, bean sprouts, citrus to squeeze). The broth is flavorful and satisfying. I've sampled the bun as well (tasty and enjoyable), but I just always go back for pho. Next on the list to try will be the banh mi. Sadly, I don't love their fresh spring rolls. I've tried them several times, hoping to get a good batch, and they have just been passable each time. They have a lot of iceberg lettuce inside instead of the herbs you would expect and are just bland. The peanut dipping sauce is 'meh'. They generally look a bit sloppy in the rolling and are just disappointing considering how good the other dishes are. Came here for dinner and ordered the egg rolls, pho with rare steak and a thai tea. 4 egg rolls were $4.95, pho was $6.50, and thai tea was $2.50. The thai tea was surprisingly good. It's not overpowering like most places. Typically, thai tea comes with a ton of ice, which is necessary to water down the intense flavor. They do that here too, but it's not necessary. Next time I come here, I'll order the thai tea again but ask for half the ice, if that. The egg rolls were decent and came with lettuce to wrap each one and a tangy dip. They weren't the best Vietnamese egg rolls by any means, but they weren't the worst. I guess I'd say they were pretty good because I would order them again, but they could use improvement. The pho was good. The broth was rich, and the rare steak was tender. If you haven't had pho with rare steak before, the steak isn't rare when you eat it. It means that the steak is rare and slice super thin, then dropped on top of the piping hot soup. When you get the soup, you mix the rare steak into the noodles and the hot soup cooks the steak just enough that it is still tender. I like to dump a ton of the bean sprouts they give you into the soup, along with a squeeze of lime. I also put a dab of Hoisin and Sriracha onto each mouthful of noodle soup. The soup was tasty, but I can't tell if they use MSG in it or not. I wasn't dying of thirst afterwards, but I definitely was kind of thirsty. Either way, it was good stuff and I'll come back. Not the best pho by any means, but perhaps the best in Omaha. The price is cheap, and food is good, so check this place out. read more
