Ate here for the second time ever this weekend. Got the exact same dish and again I really enjoyed it. On my third trip I will definitely try a Pho dish. The service was quick and the food was very good and I left full and happy. Since I feel like eating something different, I ordered the noodle with soup (there's a lot of noodle submerged in the soup), with an add on of grilled pork and I really like the combination. Stopped in for lunch on a Friday in March. Nobody was eating here so I obviously got in quickly. Service was great too. I'm more of a southern style Pho eater but this one knocked the northern style out of the park. The broth was superb. But my meatballs were sausages cut up and the veggies were not fresh. I sent the veggies back and received fresher but they weren't completely fresh- black on basil and brown on bean sprouts is not what I intended. I also expected a larger amount of veggies. The flavor of the grilled pork in the grilled pork vermicelli bowl is phenomenal. The pork was perfectly cooked and just the right amount of fat. It was salty and acidic and umami and grilled.... everything really comes together in perfect symphony. And that's just the meat! It also comes with a large portion of vermicelli noodles, fresh vegetables, and a dressing for lack of a better term. Again, it hits all the right flavor points. It is a must-try dish. The staff is very nice, just keep in mind it's a classic no frills Asian restaurant where the food is so comforting, you know you'll come back again. I normally get the P4 (the one with all of the different meats in the pho). If you're not familiar with pho definitely don't be shy to put the garnishes (hand full of bean sprouts, ripped up Thai basil, and a squeeze of lime) and use the hoisin sauce and sriracha to dip the meat in, its worth a try! read more

As most know, I am on the search for that ever elusive "great bowl of Pho" After living here in Omaha for a few years, I have finally come to the conclusion that even a decent bowl of Pho doesn't exist here. My latest attempt was here at Pho 79. I have read the reviews, and I reluctantly went ahead and tried this restaurant. I wasn't expecting much but was ever so hopeful. A buddy of mine and I went in right at 5 when they opened. The girl inside told us we had to come back in 30 minutes because she wasn't ready yet, because she got there 45 minutes late. We waited 30 minutes and went back inside. We were sat at a booth and were the only diners in the place. We were given menus and we both ordered the same thing. P3 Pho with beef, brisket and meatballs, as well as spring rolls and the Thai iced tea. The tea was horrible. It is obviously from a packet. The Pho as fair, but the meat was very fatty. The mung bean sprouts looked liked they were left out for a few days, and were all brown. The Thai basil was not Thai and the jalapeños were bitter. Lastly, as we all know, Pho is only as good as its broth. This fell short. To make our dining experience worse, our host/waitress Alexis was constantly at our table. Not sure why, but none the less she standing there the whole time talking to us, complaining about her coworker not showing up. My buddy and I were trying to hang out and talk but couldn't because she was standing there. When she wasn't at our table, she was at another table eating and telling us how she was tired of it all and was going to shut down the restaurant. Others came in to sit and dine, but she would tell them that there would be no dinning in and she was only doing take out orders. When we were finished we went to leave, Alexis told us that she was waiting for us to leave so she could close, and she couldn't do it while we were there. Not very inviting. So... food I'll give 2 stars, 1 star for the attempt at Pho, zero stars for service.... I'm giving up finding Pho in Omaha, and can't honestly recommend Pho 79. I'll look in Lincoln, I hear there is a place there who makes a good Pho. read more

I got the spring rolls for an appetizer, which were packed with shrimp, pork, and veggies, served with a thick peanut sauce that was to die for. I could only eat one before our meals came, and the portions are huge! I tried the vermicelli with pork and egg rolls. It was fantastic! I got a take out order and for $14 (or maybe $15) the Grilled Pork, Egg, and Rice Combo left a lot to be desired. Pork- Portion was meh for the price, could used about 40% to feel like a good value and the flavor was good although the pork was a bit tough. Nuoc Mam- It's hard to mess up the accompanying fish sauce but this tasted ok. Couldn't put my finger on it but there are several other restaurants where this taste better. Overall, the portions were ok, flavors were ok, everything was just fine. Not super interested in going back, but if someone offered to buy me lunch here I wouldn't say no. read more

For having the word Pho in the name I was expecting their pho to be above average, but it seems everything else EXCEPT for the pho was average. I'm not sure if it's because I was younger and maybe they didn't think I would care but what the food gets plated on sets off the vibe for my experience. Being served on disposable plates while the other tables had real plates made me feel some way? Not only that they realllllllly skimp on the vegetables here. 2-3 basil leaves for my pho and a handful of bean sprouts with one tiny cut of lime. The pho broth was really watered down and bland even after adding hoisin & chili oil. I almost always finish my pho bowl, but this time couldn't. After requesting for more veggies the waitress seemed to have been confronted by the manager (maybe?) and he yelled her at saying he couldn't train her for every little thing it's just common sense (in regards to my request for my veggies). Which really ruined my experience. Maybe next time spend the time to train your waiter/waitresses without yelling and making them feel stupid so your customers can enjoy their experience. read more

I am so extremely happy that Pho 79 opened in Omaha! Previously, I would have to drive to Lincoln, Nebraska when I was missing Vietnamese food, but I'm so thankful to finally be able to get some of my favorite dishes in Omaha. I came here yesterday with fellow Yelpers, and we enjoyed some appetizers and entrees. For appetizers, we got the spring rolls, eggrolls, and fish sauce wings. The spring rolls came with a peanut sauce. The eggrolls came out hot and had a good crunch. As for the wings, I love them so much! They were so crispy and well flavored. For entrées, we tried the pho, bun bo hue, and vermicelli bowl. The broth seriously tasted like it was made by my mom or aunties! I was also happy with the vermicelli bowl. The meat was perfectly flavored and cooked. Everything came with the right herbs and veggies. This restaurant is located in the Miracle Hills strip mall in what used to be Thai Pepper. Soooo incredibly happy Pho 79 opened and now we have an awesome Vietnamese spot here in Omaha! Every dish is so well thought out. We spoke with the owner and a lot of the recipes come from his grandma who owned a restaurant in Vietnam! You definitely feel the comfort and taste of the flavors of a home cooked meal! Their pho is so rich and flavorful. The owner said they take over a day to prepare the broth. This is the first place where I didn't drench my pho with hoisin sauce to get the flavor! We shared a bowl and they split it in two bowls for us. Def a lot of food! Their combo rice plate is by far my fave here in Nebraska. Soooo flavorful and we ended up ordering another plate to go so my mom and sis could try it! Their spring rolls are great and the sauce is actually thick and not watered down. At night, the window screens give the appearance of darkness but they are open. You seat yourself and a laminated menu is handed to you with selections. Service is usually pretty good. Ordering is easy, just state the letter and number. The food comes out fairly quickly, and the flavor is authentic here. The porkchop with rice and fried egg comes pre-cut which is nice compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in Omaha. Pho was also flavorable and the eggrolls were outstanding. It makes me sad to write a bad review but I can confidently say we're not going to be coming back. The Thai tea was $5.50 and very clearly just a powered packet with water poured over it. I also got the P3. - Pho with medium rare steak, brisket & meatballs which was very fatty and with little flavor. The topping that came with the meal included only 3 basil leaves and brown and bruised mung bean sprouts. The dish the toppings came on were stacked with other patrons bowls so the food was touching the bottom of other bowls. Some friends of ours told us this was the best pho in Omaha so we were super excited to try it. I'll have to say, we almost certainly will skip them in the future. The good: Vietnamese coffee. It's probably the best we've had in this city. Just one sip will widen your eyes and give you the kick in the pants you want. The mixed reaction: The pho. We ordered both the combination and the medium rare beef. Flavor wise, the broth was decent but nothing special. The meat was overall good. However the portion sizes were obviously way too small, I'm not the biggest eater but I probably could have had two bowls to be filling. It's clear that they've portioned already expensive pho so that you order extra noodles. They barely gave any of the herbs/veggies that come with pho as well. The ugly: chicken wings and vegetable spring rolls. The chicken wings stunk - I mean that literally. It was rank and my wife pushed it as far away from her as she could. Let's be clear - we aren't strangers to food with strong odors (half our fridge is kimchi), but this was on another level. Seems like they put way too much fish sauce on the wings without really much anything else to flavor. The vegetable spring rolls should not be called that.
