Easily one of the best bowls of Pho I've ever had. Only place I'll come back for Pho

We're visiting Omaha, NE for the weekend and was looking for a good pho place. We decided to give this spot a try since it wasn't too far of a drive from the hotel we were staying at. We did read through quite a bit of reviews and we figured that since a lot of reviews were older, perhaps there are some improvements so we gave it a try! I do have some thoughts and wanted to share a current review on our experience today. Pro to Food: We ordered 2 bowls of their beef Combination Pho. We absolutely LOVED how flavorful the broth was. We didn't have to add any additional sauce to the broth to enhance the flavor because the broth was already super tasty. Like many other reviews, the broth is a little bit more oily than we're used to seeing BUT we cannot deny how great the flavor was so that's a huge bonus which is why we didn't mind the "oily" broth! It wasn't too terrible. Just a little more oily than what we've seen at other pho places but it's probably the liquid gold! Cons: - lack of meat in both phos. Our bowls of pho had very little amount of meat so that was a disappointment. I didn't count how many slices of meat/meatballs but it was a lot less than we're used to. Several other reviewers said that same thing about this issue, but we were hoping that since it's been several years since those reviews were posted, perhaps things have changed but sadly, it's still the same. - pho sizes: they only have one size. It would've been nice to have different sizes in case someone had a bigger appetite. - ambiance/cleanliness: The entire place needs remodeling (walls, floors, paint). They need to remove all the chairs and tables, sweep and mop everything thoroughly, and then put everything back. It looks like a place that just opened and is still needing a lot of work. - TV: They had a TV that was playing a video shooting game (like Roblox). I have a feeling that this was more so as entertainment for the owner's little ones but as a customer, I thought it was inappropriate in a restaurant setting to have something like that playing in this restaurant space. I'm a mother as well so having my little one there while trying to enjoy my meal and trying to keep my child from not watching something like that was a juggle that I didn't appreciate. We did see the "Shortage in staff" sign at the front of the restaurant (by the entrance) so we are sadden to see that due to shortage in staff, they're not able to get things where they would like it to be. Hoping that in a few years, we'll see some improvements if we're ever in the area again! Overall, would I recommend this place? I'll say, maaaaaaaaaybe (only for the broth). There are a lot of things that can be improved to make the place more inviting & the experience better. We have a favorite pho place where we live so that is the standard that we look for when we're trying other places but we always like to keep an open mind and try new places especially when we're traveling. Decided to try Drunken Noodles here and was disappointed by how sweet and lackluster it was. Have had drunken noodles at other places before and these lacked enough chicken and flavor. Would have liked a little kick to this dish. Had taro milk boba and it was essentially an ice smoothie version. I was the only one there on Saturday around noon and felt like I had stepped into someone else's home without an invitation. Kids watching shows and owners ready to have lunch with their kids. I like feeling at home but not someone else's where I felt out of place. The husband seemed to be fussing loudly in back at his kid and possibly wife. The restaurant just seemed like an extension of their own home and not really a business. Would love to try their pho but not that badly. read more

The call ahead ordering process was super simple and they had it done quickly! When I went in to pick it up, there was a little boy maybe 5 years old who came out to say thank you and "make sure to come back tomorrow!" I ordered the spicy beef soup and it was spicy!! I probably had half the broth and most of the veggies and noodles in my dinner portion, so I'm sitting here feeling like a roly poly, but it was worth it. My husband got the combo pho and all the veggies and noodles looked so fresh and good! I'm excited to go back. This is a no fuss, straight to business good food restaurant. If you're looking for authentic pho, this is a good choice. I didn't get a picture of the beef soup because I ate it too fast, but it was also lovely. read more

It's my first time trying out a pho restaurant here in Omaha after moving from California so I didn't really set my standards that high just to be on the safe side. I ordered the combo pho while my partner ordered the bun bo hue. The pho broth was extremely sweet, to the point where I couldn't taste any of the spices or flavors. The portions were also disappointing: most of my bowl was just the noodles and broth, topped off with a few pieces of meat and small meatballs. Overall dining experience was pretty poor. I will most likely be exploring other Vietnamese restaurants hoping for better quality pho. read more

After six long years we ventured back here to eat after every single other place we wanted to go on a Sunday evening was closed for takeout! I was pleasantly surprised at the food I received and would not I hesitate to recommend them for some pho. I still think the broth is a bit sweeter than I personally have taste for and a little oily, but it's a good bowl nonetheless. After trying to find a good pho place in Omaha, I was recommended Pho Viet by a few friends! Located in a run-down strip mall, Pho Viet is definitely a hole-in-the-wall, but those are always the best! The restaurant offers authentic, home-cooked Vietnamese cuisine, and is clearly family run. Nice and efficient service. I ordered the Combo Pho and Shrimp Spring Rolls. My only complaint is that my Combo Pho barely had any meat. However, the broth was hot and flavorful, noodles cooked perfectly, and the vegetables were fresh. Have a hangover and cant keep your food down all day? Pho is the answer to your problem. Fresh herbs swimming in hot and tasty, meaty broth was exactly what my poor stomach needed that afternoon. Im honestly getting hungry again writing this review. Dang. The restaurant was quiet and peaceful. The service was quick and the server had a smile on her face the whole time. It was nice to not have to worry about being in a loud restaurant when my head was pounding. My daughter had the broccoli chicken. The sauce was delicious and would make even a plain white rice taste like a 5 star dinner. Eggrolls were good but I wish they had meat. Still delicious. My husband was disappointed that his seafood soup had 3 shrimps in it. That was the only small minor problem we encountered. Average dinner cost about 10 bucks a person. Places like this..local small businesses that serve not only healthy, but quick delicious, savory food deserve our money and business above mcdonalds and other fast food places that are killing the population and already have billions under their belt. We were warmly greeted when we entered. You order at the counter and seat yourself. Everyone was very friendly. We got there close to closing but didn't feel rushed to complete our meal. We both had pho, one chicken and one beef. It was delicious! The broth was outstanding, plenty of noodles and meat. We also had the shrimp spring rolls, peanut sauce, and mango crab Rangoons. Ugly little strip mall location, but -- to be candid -- we didn't stop in for the location. Generous portions of broth and all the "fixings" (e.g., sliced jalapeños, sliced limes, Thai basil, etc.). Friendly service. Standard menu pricing -- neither high nor low. (Most of the menu prices were comparable to the many Vietnamese restaurants in Oklahoma City -- our hometown. Two people can eat for about twenty bucks.) Pho viet always hits the spot for ne. Whem I'm in the mood for something light but filling, this is my go to. I always get the pho and spring rolls. My lasst visit I tried the regular egg rolls and they were really good but small probably smart on there part. They also have good mango crab Rangoon but the price and the quantity always gets me. But this is my regular spot for Pho my only other comparison was a place in Colorado so I don't considered myself a pho professional but it's good to me and the service is good. On our way home from the hospital my daughter and I stop for a bowl of pho...So we decided to give Pho Viet another try...Still second time they didn't get it right...Their pho is so grease than there is a different between good flavor fat and greasy and this is just straight up greasy...Never once the waitress come and check up and see how the pho and when she the bill I kindly told her that the pho broth is greasy and she responded you don't like fat...? We order 2 bowl of pho and egg roll and the bill come out to be little over $30...We left them $ 3 tips normally I usually leave around 30-35% in tips but in this case $3 dollars is good enough...Really! Had the cravings for some Pho while visiting Omaha and I found this resto from Yelp. Walk in to an empty restaurant with a mom & pop vibe. The inside is kind of dated. I ordered the combo pho with the rare beef on the side. The standard pho vegies where served a few minutes later with the very smallish side of rare beef (pics included). The broth was just okay but it was hot. The noodles was good but portion was small. There were a few slices of brisket and a slice of meatball and that was it for the meat. Pretty good food, but also a bit expensive. I got raw beef pho as well as the egg rolls. I loved the egg rolls, they were perfectly crispy and their sweet n sour sauce was good. The pho was flavored nicely, and even with take out the beef cooked in the broth. The pho was decently sized. The only reason why I gave 4/5 instead of 5/5 was because of the price (came out to $17 for pho & egg rolls, with tip of course) I would recommend Phi Viet if you want something quick and flavorful. First time here- not our usually Pho go to place but the only one that was open! We ordered take-out and was pleased with how fast it was ready. I did not go in the restaurant so I can't speak for that, but everything else was good. The broth was tasteful and warm. Interesting that you can't order different sizes of bowls and the menu was a bit smaller than I've seen at other places, but overall we were pleased. Spring rolls very big, egg rolls good but not much flavor and weren't as warm as I would've liked (not sure because we ordered and picked it up or not). The portions here is ridiculous. If you like you meatballs thinly sliced where you can see light threw it like a stain glass window. This place is for you. This was definitely a hole in the wall restaurant. First off this place is located by hardly anything around it. The place wasn't quite clean. They had kids toys all over the place & even on one of the eating tables. Pictures on the walls were crooked & hearing a child cry on & off. Didn't really bother me at all though. It's the cleanliness of a restaurant that I usually have an issue with. I wanted to give them at least 4 stars but I just couldn't. On to the food. I opted to try their Bun Bo Hue & it was missing something but I couldn't pinpoint it. The broth looked like it was spicy but it was just the color red. The jalapeños served wasn't spicy either. My husband ordered their BBQ Porkchop & egg. His dish was good. The pork chop had that good lemongrass spice. They didn't serve the broth with it like other Vietnamese restaurants. For a whole in the wall place it was a bit overpriced though. My Bun Bo Hue was $9.95 & husbands dish was $10.50. The pho here is actually really good, the issue is they are wayyyyyy too skimpy with the ingredients. The amount of meat in the bowl is negligible, and there isn't nearly enough noodles for the price. However, it is a good bowl of soup, I only wish there was more of it. It's definitely worth a try if you haven't been here, and if you aren't used to the giant, cheap bowls of pho on the West Coast, you may just find this place amazing. Also, you get the great ambiance of potentially screaming babies in the make-shift room in the main restaurant area, or in a playpen in the hallway on the way to the bathroom. Stuck in a little strip mall where many of the stores are closed. When we entered, there was one person waiting for take out. I wasn't sure whether we ordered at the counter or sat down. We were told by the non-Asian waitress that we could sit down. She quickly brought us water. I ordered egg rolls and had some questions about the menu. She really had no idea. It is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. if you work at a restaurant, you, especially as a server, you should know the menu. Another server or possibly owner came to answer our questions. My children are a bit picky and they like the breaded chicken which of course they were out of. After a bit of conversation, we figured out what they could eat. The egg rolls come 3 to an order and were quite tasty. They were hot and crunchy--we really enjoyed them. My daughter ordered the beef and broccoli. The beef tasted to be of good quality. My drunk noodles with chicken were wonderful. Hot and flavorful with mushrooms and red, yellow & green peppers. Flavorwise, probably the best drunk noodles I have ever had. There were two toddlers on the premises which I think must be the owner or server's children. They were very unhappy, crying and screaming alot while we were there. This is not uncommon in small family run restaurants but usually the children are very quiet and well behaved. It is not in the nicest building, but I came for pho not atmosphere. It was off-peak, at 2:30 pm, and empty. Service was fast and friendly. Ordered Combo Pho. I've visited Pho Viet today because my favorite pho noodle place closed down. To be completely honest, I picked this place over all the others on Yelp because it looked like it had the biggest bowls of pho noodle soup in pictures. The absolute most important thing about my visit, was the pho noodle soup good? I'm happy to say that it was amazing! The broth was on point and absolutely delicious. There was an abundant amount of noodles and the chicken, while a first glance looked like it didn't have enough, ended up being the perfect amount for the size bowl I had. Deborah was my server and was very friendly and efficient. She kept my water glass full and made sure everything was OK without visiting too many times to the table. So now for the downside. This restaurant was a little hard to find being as there's no clear sign showing where the restaurant is. Other photos showed a large yellow sign over the name of the store front. There's no such sign above the storefront nor anywhere else around to show this is indeed Pho Viet. While the restaurant was very clean, it was also very plain. I did not take this into consideration with my rating, however, for those of you that like ambiance, this is not your place. Also, this is obviously a family owned restaurant. Two young children were running around and there was a baby in the background crying. Again, this was not factored into my rating, however, since there was no music to overcome the noise level, I'm sure some people would be put off by this. Overall, if you're looking for a place with awesome pho noodle soup and are not worried about decor or ambience, this is your place! read more

Pho Viet definitely falls into the hole-in-a-wall category of restaurants, which most of us know can offer some of the best food in town. However, my bowl of beef pho was decent, but not the best I've had locally. While good overall, there's just something about the broth that falls slightly flat. Like the flavors were muddled together in a little ball and didn't have room to open up, spread out and assert themselves. Still, Pho Viet's no frills location and decor has a charm to it I love. Plus it's very reasonably priced for what you get. I've got my eye on their banh mi for my next visit. read more

It's Omaha. Good vietnamese restaurants are hard to find, especially if you're a young adult whose Vietnamese, love to eat, but don't know how to cook. I was impressed by the aromas walking in this restaurant. The restaurant is very simple and ordinary but The food we ordered, bun thich nuong and bun bo hue, blew my mind. The Pho was good, but not the wings. This is probably the best place for Pho in North O, the broth was rich and flavorful and even though I had takeout, I was provided with more than enough extras to add to my soup. I will say that when I usually order Pho, i always get my beef rare, so it will not get over done in the hot broth.I learned a very valuable lesson that night, don't get rare meat for take out. Basically it was slices of absolutely raw beef, which had I eaten in, would not have been a problem, but for take home, the broth cooled down enough that it could not cook the beef, it barely warmed it. Fiona, my dog enjoyed the raw beef very very much. So, I saw these rave reviews about their viet chicken, so I had to have it. Maybe I got something different than what the reviews were about, or it was a bad night (it was kinda of late) but the chicken was awful. The pieces of chicken looked like they came from a pigeon and not a full grown chicken and they had been fried way past hard and there was no flavor other than the syrupy soupy sweet mess they were floating in. I actually ended up tossing them. Will I go there again - definitely for Pho, maybe I will try something else, like the drunken noodles next time. But I can personally tell you that the Pho is a good bet and eat it in for the full pho experience. read more

Did a visit to this place today, found the place filthy. They don't clean at all in there. Spring rolls slopped together half shrimps, instead of sweeping the floor, he sits there doing nothing, nasty, NASTY will not never come back here. . . Imagine what the kitchen looks like, LOL read more

I don't have much to add to the average reviews already posted. The food is decent enough, and I am a repeat customer. I agree there are odd smells from time to time, either from the exhaust setup or whatever. I think the owner would help himself by upgrading the joint with new booths and a new paint job. So after desperately searching Omaha for great pho, alas I came here. And my search is still going lol. It was good but not great. Nothing comparable to south Federal pho in D-Town. Any who, I ordered the spring rolls and they was tasty! Damn that peanut sauce was a little thicc but dayum!!!! Flava town!! My companion ordered rare beef and I got tofu. The broth was meh wish it had some salt or dare I say it, MSG. But it was passable. I'd come back if my search is fruitless. Stay tuned Omaha!
