I lived in omaha for 25 years and this was pur goto for chinese. It was very good. We moved 10 years ago but would always stop in for chinese when we were back in town. That stops as of tonight's visit. Do not know what they did but they need to find the old reciepes. The hot and sour soup tasted like sweet and sour soup and was awful, everything else was bland with no flavor. Lastly I did not appreciate the attitude that the server had and basically called me a liar when I told her the soup was not good and was different from the last time i had it. No, just no. This place pulled me out of Yelp retirement. If I can save just one person from coming here, I've done my job. I had the Generals Bean Curd. This was the soggiest mess with the worst taste of any tofu dish I've had in a long time. There were many unidentifiable pieces of something in a dish that was supposed to be just tofu and broccoli. I just couldn't. Ontop of it all, the fried rice side was so overcooked. The rice no longer identified as rice. There certainly was no flavor to it and the frozen peas and carrots truly did not add anything to the dish. The place is cluttered. Not really a comfortable place to sit and dine. I took mine to go. The sauce leaked everywhere out of the container making it a huge mess to try to deal with. And lastly, the wait. Although it only took about 20 min, there was a long, backed up line of customers waiting for call in orders as well as several door dash drivers. They obviously are preparing one order at a time, which I can't fault them for. They are a small, family owned/ran business. Oh, one other thing. The place smelled of old grease. I have read other reviews that were negative. We have always had a positive experience. Creighton and the med center have diverse students. I have seen tables of young men eating family style and they are very much at home. The atmosphere is multigenerational. Pleasant and ethnic to enhance the experience. Prices are good for the serving portions. These days we usually do take out. I know the kitchen puts out a tremendous number of orders. I have always gotten what I ordered. This has been my favorite Chinese restaurant for a couple decades now but I haven't been here much in recent years b/c it's in the opposite direction from me now. However, last Friday I treated my co-worker to a takeout lunch that I ordered and picked up. Maybe they were having a bad day but it wasn't as friendly as it used to be. Also, the food seemed a bit off from what I remember. The egg roll was a bit oily and had a chewy piece of meat in it. My curry chicken was good but not as fantastic as it used to be. I get that times are rough. The parking lot of that whole shopping center wasn't as busy as it used to be during weekday lunchtime. I will try it again but probably not for a while. read more

I've been going to the place across the street for years. Today I decided to come in and I'm glad I did. For Chinese carry out, this place gets 4 stars, I rate by comparing apples to apples. If it weren't for the red tasting sweet and sour sauce and the sweet egg drop soup, it might have been 4.5, if I could give half stars. The food is as good as if not better than the place across the street and the service is definitely 100 times better. Also the restaurant is really nice inside, unlike the place across road, eating in is NOT a good experience, you are literally in the flow of the foot traffic in the store and the tables are close together. Chine Palace has a nice comfortable decor and it's nice enough for a date night with someone you are already in a relationship with. It may even work for a 1st date depending on the situation. I ordered egg drop soup, an egg roll and General Tso chicken. The egg roll was fat and full of meat and veggies and not greasy at all. The egg drop soup was pleasant, it had a slight sweetness to it that I didn't care for. If it weren't for the sweetness, I would definitely have enjoyed it way more than I did. This was too bad, because it really had the potential to be good, lots of egg, nice chunks of carrots and none of that weird viscosity that some soups have from too much corn starch. The General Tso chicken was ok, again better than the place across the road, but not spectacular. I did appreciate the fact that the broccoli had not been steamed into oblivion and even retained some crunch. 2 thumbs up. The dish itself was a bit too sweet and pretty low on the heat scale. I'll definitely try something different my next visit. According to my fortune cookie, I'm going to meet an important person. WARNING: Owner Miao Hui Zhang can be Overly sensitive and easily triggered if you critique his food, he was extremely vulgar and unprofessional because I returned an overcooked order!! My family and I are Nebraska Natives. Ever since King Fongs closed down China Palace has been our #1 go to spot for Chinese. We spend about $100 a month there between a few family dinners my wife picks up, and me hitting them on the regular for my lunch dishes and egg drop soup. This has been going on for over 10 years now. On average we spend about $1000 a year there as a family. But apparently that means nothing to the owner because he chose vulgarity and disrespect over a $14 order by saying "Fxxk YOU" to me at the end of our transaction. All my previous encounters with him have been very cordial so I was shocked to see this side of him but I have notice changes. It started in Sept 2021. I would take me and my daughter there after volleyball practice on Wednesdays to eat and the place would be randomly closed without notice on Wednesdays so that was strange. I get egg drop soup from there faithfully. It was the best egg drop soup in town period. Always add green onion. However I notice one night when his wife was there I got the order and I called back asking did they change the recipe, because it taste completely different. She said "you don't like, the broth is lighter that's all, I like it that way.." this confused me because I'm used to consistentancy from them. A few weeks later I order my favorite dish from them, Mongolian Triple Crown. I notice the meat taste different particularly the beef, more chewy. Then I tried to order egg foo young but for several weeks they were out, reason I was giving is, *we're short staffed and short on supplies.* Finally yesterday I called and they had it in. I was excited I've been craving it and there egg foo young is one of the best. I got home and was very disappointed. It was dripping greasy, fried hard. The shrimp was chewy and so was the beef which means it was overcooked. I could only eat half a patty. I was fustrated due to all the weird changes going on and after waiting so long to get my dish I decided to call and let them know. They told me to bring it back and if it's like I say they'll make me another. Mkay, super inconvenient but I was really craving it and wanted it done right like I'm used to so I did. I get there and as soon as the owner comes out he looks at it then looks at me and has such a negative energy. "I don't see nothing wrong with this" He said he'll remake but he felt I'm insulting his reputation. I said "C'mon man you know me, I've been coming for over 10yrs have I ever complained or brung anything back?" He says "It's two hours later the composition of the food changes if you let it sit".. I'm like "I ate it soon as I got home, just didn't have time to rush right back to be further inconvenienced over my order." "I can taste the overcooked burnt patty and chewy shrimp and beef." He snatched it off the counter and throws it in the sink under the counter and says something in his native tongue. I said "Can I just get my money back because I don't like this energy especially if you're gonna go in the back and cook my food where I can't see you." I told him "nobody's perfect, it happens" he said "I am, I try to be perfect and your challenging my reputation." At this point I pull my phone out and record because I absolutely can't believe this experience Im getting from him. Even the other customer there was shocked and said "sir this is not how you treat nor talk to customers." I told him "I don't understand why you are raising your voice at me and using this tone when I have been very polite about this awful experience, I spend good money here." "He said so, I have to spend money too." That made no sense but as he notices I'm recording he stops and says "Aww Fxxk YOU" and walks to the back. I guess 10yrs and thousands of dollars don't mean nothing if I have a one time criticism of his food. The young men at the counter did apologize but at that point we obviously were well past this. Ladies and gentlemen there are other places just as good, but not as conviently close to me, to spend your money with. I suggest Asian Blue and Fly, Gold Mountain, Dragon Wok, Umami and Golden Palace for high quality authentic asian cuisine. Great customer service, I gureentee you won't get cursed out over returning a $14 order. They actually value their customers. They'll just remake it to your liking and tell you thank you come again. Update: After posting other reviews somebody sent me a link from a news article about China Palace Owner Miao Hui Zhang and Jian Zhang the Manager very recently named in a six-figure lawsuit from the Dept of Labor for violating federal minimum wage and overtime laws to their staff. Bookguy loves China Palace so when he suggested a late lunch there, I agreed. I have not had Chinese food for quite awhile due to avoiding sodium. So for this lunch I ordered steamed rice and a vegetable egg roll, knowing I would be able to filch broccoli from Bookguy. He ordered Triple Delight which was chicken, beef, and shrimp with Chinese vegetables in brown sauce. He also had a couple shrimp egg rolls and steamed rice. I was right, his meal had broccoli so I put all that green goodness on my plate with some of my rice. No need to add anything since the broccoli was already lightly coated with brown sauce. It wasn't crunchy as it would be if lightly steamed, but the combination worked well. Bookguy always gets Triple Delight because he thinks the three proteins taste great together. As usual he loved it. The egg rolls were crispy on the outside and packed with the filling. I have to say that in my egg roll, I missed the usual chicken flavor since I had ordered the veggie version and the soy sauce that I'm avoiding, but that's just me. So far we've only tried out China Palace once and only for carry out. The service was quick, despite it being a clearly busy evening. The menu included some options I don't normally see at other competitors, which was both nice and as a visual person, made me curious! (There weren't any pictures on my menu) We ended up with a classic, broccoli and beef with crab rangoons. Both came out quickly and hot and we're just as you'd expect. The rice was a little extra sticky, which made digging it out of the take out box a little messy, but other than that, it was a good choice for dinner for two VERY HUNGRY and impatient people who hadn't planned ahead. The crab rangoons had a thicker wonton wrapper than usual, and quote a few large chunks of crab and scallion, pointing to the thought that they may actually be made in house, and not frozen + shipped in. Nice touch! I hope to be back to try some other house favorites and actually experience the dine in eatery. read more

China Place is a good place to go to if you're looking for cheap food with big portions. I wasn't overly impressed by my meal there, but it also could've been an off-day for them. Our order of wontons was forgotten, so we had to go up and ask a staff member for them. Overall I was not left with a great impression, but I may have to return and give it another try someday. read more

This is a great place to stop for chinese cuisine. Family oriented and very friendly. The food is wonderful. not to thick on the gravy's and fresh ingredients. The beef and chicken were very tender and perfectly cooked. The veggies in the dish were fresh and not overly cooked just yummy. This stop has some of the best crab rangoon in town as well. My family and I had spent the day rearranging furniture, so much so that we hired movers. And, after 5 hours we were so hungry! I called China Palace to order a feast and they met the challenge. They accommodated all of my customizations without issue and we're willing to meet me curbside since my grandmother has immune issues and I cannot enter the restaurant. The server came to my car with gloves and a mask making me feel incredibly safe. Everything was packaged perfectly! The fried items had all sauces on the side so they were still crispy when I got home to eat. I cannot emphasize how delicious every single dish was. The Buddhist Delight veggies we're cooked to al dente perfection and the fried rice was light and fluffy. My favorite dish was the sweet and sour chicken... The breading was crispy and instead of some mystery dark meat, we had large juicy and tender breast meat. Do yourself a favor and go to China Palace. You will not regret it read more

Just stumbled across this restaurant yesterday. I was a bit surprised at having to order at the counter, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quick serving of our food and the big servings we received. The Crab Rangoon was out of this world, the egg rolls were delicious. We enjoyed the chicken with cashews and the shrimp with vegetables were great! Had lots of leftovers to take home. I came here hoping to find a new go-to Chinese place in Omaha for lunch. I ordered the broccoli chicken with white sauce and white rice and ate in the restaurant. The server was nice and seated me quickly and took my order at the front. The restaurant is well-decorated and more sit-down than I expected or was looking for. The food came quickly- rice, broccoli chicken, tea, and chili I asked for on the side. The steamed rice was okay. Not much to say there. The chicken was dry and maybe lower quality. The broccoli was cooked fine, not under and not over cooked. The white sauce lacked in flavor. Then I noticed a couple bites in they used white pepper to season the sauce. White pepper is not usually used for this dish and I would say did not enhance the taste in the slightest. The chili is what got me. It tasted old and fermented and when I picked it up to smell it, it definitely smelled the same as the chili in my fridge, leftover from eating at a different restaurant 2 months ago. Old. Lastly, the tea was nice to have for dining in. But it was very dark, which usually means it will be very strong from a long steep yet when I went to taste it it was similar to drinking water. I didn't drink much after that. Overall I am incredibly unimpressed at least with this one dish. Perhaps other customers had better luck - they looked more content. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we always had what we needed and helped us decide what we were going to eat! We appreciated the family-friendly atmosphere of the resturaunt. We each ordered the general's chicken special. It came with two crab rangoons, fried rice, and egg drop soup. This was much more food than we expected for the price! We LOVED the unique flavor of the chicken. The crab rangoons are definitely a must-have because of their filling. At the end of our meal, we still had an entire to go box full of food because there was so much. It still tasted amazing when I reheated it for leftovers the next day. We highly reccomend this resturaunt because it can be difficult to find good Chinese food in Omaha. This exceeds any expectations we had. China Palace is great. It's your classic American-Chinese restaurant, complete with Chinese-flavored muzak, astrology placemats and tacky/tasteful decor. What really makes CP stand out among the countless other Chinese restaurants in Omaha is the actual quality of its food. As other Yelpers have pointed out, CP is a cut above the rest when it comes to staples like hot and sour soup and egg rolls, the latter of which you can tell is actually made FRESH beforehand, and not some frozen deal from the Sysco truck. My recent favorite is the Firecracker Chicken, a sweet and slightly spicy dish of fried chicken bits in sauce with snow peas, water chestnuts and a few other veggies. Both the Mongolian beef and sliced pork/chicken in garlic sauce have yet to disappoint. They serve hot tea (no charge) at the beginning of each meal, adding to that I-know-I'm-in-a-casual-Chinese-restaurant-yet-it-somehow-has-that-'60s-throwback-feel-my-grandparents-loved. This place has been open for nearly 20 years. That has to mean something, right? read more

Disclaimer: my family has been going to China Palace for 15+ years. Sure they'll fry up the sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoons and all the other standard chinese restaurant fare, but you can genuinely tell that the food is of a superior quality (and quantity). Plus they have the best egg roll in town, hands down. The food at China Palace is fantastic, prices are more than fair, service is exceptional, and the take-out service is quick, friendly and professional. The trick is you have to know what the best items are, AND to request all white meat chicken (if you don't like the dark). I'd recommend the Moo Shu Pork, Hot & Sour Soup, Tangerine Chicken, Crab Rangoons... and of course the egg rolls! Although I have yet to order a dish from China Palace I didn't like, those are my staples. Maybe I'll get some tonight... The kids and I have loved everything we've tried - but, to be fair, that isn't saying much since none of us are very adventurous. Our favorite dishes? Pork fried rice. Sweet & Sour Chicken. Broccoli Beef. Perfection, man. Delicious perfection. I told my daughter that if Jesus himself made some pork fried rice - it still wouldn't top China Palace. The lo mien was great, the sweat and sour chicken was fresh and flavorful, the fried rice had all the proper additives and was well prepared. Your classic american-Chinese style food. The crab rangoon was crispy and crabby, and it was way more food then we could eat! I ordered food to go, and it was ready when I arrived ten minutes later. Although I didn't stay to eat, the restaurant seemed nice. We'll have to go back. The owner was working the register and he was very friendly!
