Never go to GOLDEN CHINA at 66th and Ames Avenue. I have been going there for 20+ years and after today I will never step foot in there again. My sister and I were in the car, and I told her how good their food was - They sell 10 fantail shrimp for $5.95. It's a deal and its good. Kathy wanted some Crab Rangoon. She said it was good. I got home and opened my bag, and it was not remotely close to what I ordered. It was 2 boxes of a bunch of rice and a few shrimps. Not interested in the least in it. So, I called and what a fiasco. First, they do not seem to understand the English Language. I had to repeat myself 4 times about that the problem was. I think the person finally got some comprehension, but his question was - did I have the receipt. I checked the bag, no receipt. Called my sister, no receipt. All this person could say was - if you don't have the receipt, I can't help you. Oh, and we were overcharged. They charged my sister's credit card $28.09. The two orders of shrimp should have been $5.95 each and the crab Rangoon about the same. SO approx. and when you add about 10% for sales tax and the restaurant tax, it should come to around $20.00. The only thing they could say was, if you don't have a receipt, I cannot help you. I so want to take the food back and spread it on the parking lot, but I am restraining myself. As you can tell. I am livid. So please do not go to GOLDEN CHINA at 66th and Ames Avenue......I am sad because I used to love it and now have to find someplace else that I like. Below is the photo of what I got. It is with great disappointment that I have to post this review, when there are so many good ones. I have always been a fan of the hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant. I've had some of my best meals from them, BUT I was terribly disappointed today. I got the twice cooked pork, egg drop soup and an egg roll. The egg roll was ok, the egg drop soup was yellow chicken flavored water with corn starch thickener and half a scrambled egg. The twice cooked pork, can you say 10 times cooked pork? I came very soon after they opened so this pork obviously was left over from probably 3 days ago and had been re-warmed so many times it was like a piece of wood and I am not exaggerating. I thought twice before I gave it to the dog, then I realized if she can eat a bone, clearly she can chew this pork flavored wood chip. So she and I split it, she ate the wood chips and I ate the cabbage, green peppers and carrots. The overall flavor was just meh. I accomplished my goal of not being hungry anymore, but that's about it. read more

Golden China has become our go-to. The 3 egg rolls for $3.99 are excellent. Thicker than most, these are my favorite egg rolls in town. I ask for the side hot mustard in a cup, but it's very hot so be aware. We had Mongolian Beef this week. Great flavors. Absolutely, Golden China is my go-to spot for Chinese food. Five years of loyalty speak volumes. The drive-through option is a lifesaver, and their portions are incredibly generous. The sweet and sour sauce is the cherry on top--perfectly balanced. This place is a something that I'll keep coming back to! Beef and broccoli was nice but noodles were over cooked and mushy, fried rice was hard, sweet and sour sauce is gross, and they broke my box so EVERYTHING was soaked from all the juices from everything! No reason for this place to have 4.5 stars for such poor quality. read more

So I get dressed and jump my fat Lil happy ass in the car and drive over to my favorite Chinese restaurant! As I was pulling in I was like "hell yeah" as I seen nobody in the line since it was just a lil after 11am I just figured I was early. As I was turning in I seen someone pull out from the drive through line. Excited I started doin my craboon dance as I pull up to the speaker box... This place used to be really good before it changed ownership. Now it looks a little fancier on the outside and the popping speaker seems to be fixed, but the prices are higher, the portions are a bit smaller, and the recipes seem different. I've only bought food there once or twice since the ownership change. I'm home sick today, and really wanted garlic chicken, but I didn't want to have to go anywhere. I complained to my son that there are no Chinese restaurants near Benson that deliver. He said he was pretty sure that Golden China delivers, so I went to the website and sure enough, it said dine-in, carryout, and delivery. I decided to give it another try and started placing an order, thinking I could select delivery before I checked out, but apparently carryout is the only option, as I went back and started from scratch and still couldn't find a way to select delivery. But at this point, I had my heart set on it, so I placed the order and drove there in my robe and slippers, thinking I could just pick it up through the drive-thru. No, for some reason they won't let you pick up carryout orders through the drive-thru; they made me go inside and get it. Incidentally, there is no dining area in there, so I don't know why the website says there is. It was 1:30 in the afternoon, there was no line in the drive-thru-thru, and I was the only customer there, but it still took them a couple of minutes to come to the pick-up window. When the old Chinese couple ran the place, yeah, I knew you couldn't order online, there was no dining area, and drive-thru was my usual option (not even sure if you COULD go in and pick up your food before), but I knew what to expect. This is one of my favorite chinese take outs in town. The entrees are delicious, the portions are enormous, and the prices are very reasonable. I usually get the Hunan chicken, which is juicy and has a nice kick of spice to it. The egg rolls are huge and very tasty, but I wouldn't recommend the crab rangoon. They have little if any crab in them. An entree and 3 egg rolls runs about $10 and feeds me for two full meals. The family that runs it is very nice, and the drive thru is always quick as well. Just had our first takeout from Golden China. The food was very good with generous portions. The crab Rangoon and egg rolls were perfect. Had Sesame Chicken and Szechuan Beef, which were spiced as I would expect them to be. At first I was a little leery as the building is older and they only have drive-through and takeout pickup. I called in my order and arrived 10 minutes later. Had to wait about 10 more minutes for them for finish my order. While waiting I saw two Grub Hub drivers stop and the drive through was backed up 3-4 deep. As such, your order is nice fresh and hot. read more

Absolutely fantastic food and well-priced. I could get orange chicken here for lunch every day of my life.

Generally, everything was fine. It was more of a disappointment because I chose it because of the positive OFL Facebook posts. The egg roll was a typical normal sized and flavored egg roll. Nothing was really good or extraordinary. The Hunan beef was decent as was the hot and sour soup. Though, those two things were REALLY heavy on the soy sauce, much more than typical. We also had beef lo mein. I saw in pictures there didn't appear to be any vegetables in the lo mein dishes. So asked for added veggies. The dish arrived with a few onions and about 10 teeny slivers of carrots. It also is strangely served with fried rice. The flavor was ok. The worst thing was the Crab Rangoon. It was oddly sweet. There was definitely enough sugar in it that it tasted like it could be dessert. I would not get it again. Overall, there was nothing that would make me want to go out of my way to get food there again. read more

Along with House of Hunan on 132nd and center of this is my favorite Chinese food place in the city. I have a hard time finding good Chinese food, maybe I'm just really picky. By the looks of this place, on the outside, you won't be expecting much. But it is a family-run place and the couple that owns it is really sweet. Their food is absolutely amazing. It's not overly greasy and the chicken tastes fresh. So do all the veggies. They're willing to make it spicy for you, and unlike a lot of Chinese food places they actually do make it spicy. I'm pretty picky about crab rangoons, but I'll definitely eat theirs. They aren't soggy and they don't taste like they are overly fried. Just really fresh and crispy. And the feeling is great. I always order the broccoli chicken, but I have been here with a lot of other people who have ordered different entrees and I can confirm that they are consistently good and flavorful. It's not exactly in the best part of town, but if you work around here or driving through it's definitely worth it. read more

This restaurant is the BEST in Omaha - I swear. We moved into that neighborhood in 1999 and ate there at least once a week ever since. We now live clear across the city in South O, but still drive over there a couple of times a month for our Chinese food. The same couple has run the place since we found it, and have NEVER gotten an order wrong - take out or drive thru. Great food, great prices, and the egg drop soup will cure the common cold. Beat Chinese Food in the Big O and by far the best priced. When you can get 2 meals, 2 soups, and and order of fried wonton for under $23 and have leftovers, it has to be good. The best fried wontons ever, great egg drop soup, and generals chicken. Other great things to get are the spicey chicken wings, double cooked pork, sweet and sour anything, chicken in hot garlic sauce, and Mongolian beef. In fact I have never had anything here that I didn't like. I just wish I still lived north and not way west as it is a 40 minute round trip. read more
