This place is the best Chinese food in council bluffs, it should get 3.5 stars, but I had to choose between 3 and 4, and it's not quite a 4, but it's very very decent and the prices and reasonable too. A bowl of egg drop soup is 1.99 and it's really good. The egg rolls were just ok and the orange chicken was good. I will definitely go again. read more

Even though it was clearly a busy night, the staff at Great Wall handled it like pros. The cashier in particular stood out--hardworking, patient, and still managed to make small talk with customers, including me, while hustling to keep things moving. They did seem a bit understaffed, but you wouldn't know it by how efficiently they got orders out. My takeout (sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoon, and egg drop soup) came out quickly, and I noticed the dine-in customers were also getting their food in good time despite the line. Everyone waiting seemed patient and ready to order, which says something about how the staff kept things moving with good energy. The food was hot and tasty, and the prices were totally reasonable. I appreciated the service and effort, especially under pressure. This is a go to spot for me. :) read more

Quick...so quick and food was great! Had hot and sour soup-awesome. Crab Rangoon wontons-more awesome! Pepper steak-so good! I think I waited all of 4 minutes to order and get my food. I'll be going back! read more

Prices are pretty fair for real good authentic Chinese food. I worry if they will close due to lack of business. Would eat this over panda any day. Owners are so precious. read more

They are fast and friendly. The prices are good. Even a bit cheaper than most other places. The food is ok. They use dark meat chicken in their chicken dishes and it tends to have a bit of gristle that you will encounter but you can ask for white meat when you order and they will give it to you. I'm not sure if that comes with an upcharge or not. The dishes that are labeled spicy are not. They don't taste heat-wise any different than the non-spicy dishes. The portion sizes are decent but you should eat it all if you can in one sitting. I have found that the food does not heat up well if you have leftovers. It turns weirdly sweet for some reason. It's not a bad place for a quick lunch. read more

Im from brooklyn nyc. This is nothing near chinese food, i deadass had to recook their meals on my own stove because it was horrible. Their rice is so bland and plain i refried it myself with green onions soy sauce and sliced carrots. I remade their chicken because it was ass. Asain owner was laughing as she took my money. I paid $42 for 2 meals what??? She knows she is disgracing her people serving this fake mid chinese cuisine. Do not recommend read more

All my food was absolutely delicious cooked perfectly and the customer service was amazing will definitely be back

My food was marginal; I ate two bites and threw it out. At least it was hot. I will not give them another chance because the employees were not wearing masks in the middle of the pandemic. They don't care about me, so I will never give them my business again. read more

Have been patronizing this place for 25 years. At a recent stop there the clerk said it was under new ownership and things have changed. I ordered the usual almond chicken and quickly found out that the food has changed for the worse. The taste was bland, the green peppers were uncooked and crunchy, the large chicken pieces over powered the meal. Why would you fix what wasn't broken, except to cut corners on the food? read more

If you want to pay $25 for two meals that are gut wrenching, this is the place for you. It was my second try for these guys and I was hoping that I would have a different outcome a year later, but no. The Almond chicken tasted rubbery, and I ended up taking a charcoal pill just to counteract the stomach ache that happened after eating this. My husband had the exact same reaction with his sweet and sour chicken. The chicken was obviously old or just bad. The wontons, which you would think would be fine, tasted like they were old and chewy and were barely even edible. I would not recommend. read more

Food is decent. It has gone downhill over the last few years. It used to be my go to Chinese carry out. I will not eat their again unless they change their containers. The Styrofoam melts when they place the hot food in it, and all you can taste is the chemical from the Styrofoam. read more

Crappy food; not cheap actually and horrible service. We have found plastic and trash in our food more than once. Gross.

Very good Chinese for a great price! Was impressed with the portion sizes too. Super fresh take out option as well

Today was my first day trying this place I prefer the Mongolian beef with vegetables and rice it was pretty delicious would go again soon

Good Chinese food here!! And good service ! There's also free hot and sour soup when you dine in. Definitely an added bonus. If you're looking for a decent Chinese restaurant while you're in the area, you should come by and check this place out. Pricing is very affordable as well. Love this place read more

Great Wall Express - Almond chicken and broccoli beef with snow peas - Chinese Near Me - Council Bluffs, Iowa

See all

Service was good even though they were super busy. The cashew chicken was very good as were the hot and sour soup and egg rolls. I don't recommend the fried wontons. They were dry and flavorless with no filling at all. read more

Walked in thinking this was going to be just another sweet American-style Chinese food. WRONG. But, they do have that stuff, too. It was pretty authentic. There was a caucasian guy who was clearly a regular and spoke some variety of Chinese dialect. The woman (owner) who was working was incredibly friendly and grandmotherly. read more

I had dinner here while staying at the hotel next door. It appears the focus of the business is on take out, but there are several tables available and I chose to eat at the restaurant. My hot and sour soup was not too spicy or sour, but was still enjoyable. Princess Chicken had a bit more heat, along with generous chunks of chicken and fresh vegetables and two generous scoops of fried rice. The menu offers "small" and "large" serving sizes. I found the "small" was a good, honest serving for one. Ambiance is nill. Service was very prompt and friendly. Prices are very fair. If you are sleeping at the Americinn next door, you need to eat here. End of story. read more

I would have given it a 5 but the atmosphere is less than appealing. The food is consistantly good. Portions are just right. This has always been very clean when ever I go. About once a month. The best hot and sour soup! I have never had a problem with the service. Always friendly and happy to see me. The owners even remember my name!. Look beyond the strip mall and pull up a chair. Enjoy! read more

This shit was way over priced considering my order was not what I actually ordered when I got it! Where the hell was my sweet and sour chicken? Wasn't chicken in a single one of the containers! This place shucks read more

I love the great wall steak! Such a good place to eat! It's a hidden gem is Council Bluffs. It's worth the drive even if you live in omaha.

My all time favorite Chinese restaurant. My family and I have been going here since I was born and maybe even before that. The owner/waitress is always kind and remembers details about our lives and asks how we're doing. Highly recommend the broccoli beef and sesame chicken! My husband and I also LOVE the hot and sour soup. Nothing like it. read more

Excellent foods and service. There isn't a Chinese restaurant better than this in town. Panda Express and others don't compare. I love their Hot and Sour soup, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Beef and Broccoli! Staff is very polite and call-in orders and promptly made, very littler wait time. read more

still the best chicken wings within 50 miles, always cosrsttent ang great.all dishes are terrific. they call me chicken wing, I never buy less than 40. read more

Cheap. Strip Mall. Chinese. The best option for this on the CB side of the river, if you are in the mood.

Hadn't been here in over a decade, and now I remember why; the service is unbearable. Solid Chinese, if you're willing to check your expectations for courtesy at the door. read more

This place is not fancy, this place is not particularly clean nor does it have any ambiance at all. It is good food, served with a great smile by all and inexpensive. The "light" dinner runs about $6.50 a person with an egg roll, hot and sour soup, wonton, soft drink and a full plate of your choice of entree from garlic to plum chicken, etc. and a heaping amount of fried rice. . . This is comfort food, chinese style.... drop in and enjoy. read more

Some of the best, inexpensive, dine in Chinese I have had. Could have done with a little fancier ambience, but good table service, nice, family business, tasty food, and very reasonable prices. Now, if i could get them to add Shrimp egg foo young to the menu.... read more

I have eaten there for years on E. Broadway. Have always loved their food but today was different. It was like they had changed all their recipes. The hot and sour soup tasted completely different. It was even a different color. The dumpling sauce was bitter, not spicy like normal. The egg drop soup was also not good. I am very disappointed. Probably wont be returning. It saddens me that the food I loved now is very crappy tasting. Maybe they have new owners or cooks. read more

I'm a regular at the great wall :) The staff is always polite to me. The food is delicious. You can't go wrong with either of the locations, though i personally prefer the one on broadway. read more

Best Chinese food in Council Bluffs, hands down. Kinda sketchy but the food is outstanding. I've never had a problem.

This is the best "Chinese". Hands down. Don't let the strip mall front or the interior that's been the same since they opened put you off. This is not some new sushi/trendy Chinese bistro joint. This is classic Chinese food made down home style. We've been coming here since I was a small child. Food is consistently amazing, and the egg rolls and crab Rangoon taste homemade. My dad gets the same thing every time and the owner and her husband always remember. My dads wife has been trying every item on the menu and hasn't found something she doesn't like. I rely on sweet and sour chicken, broccoli beef, chicken fried rice, cashew chicken and sweet and sour pork. The sweet and sour items have a great batter to meat ratio and the sauce is home made, with huge chunks of veggies and pineapple. The in store soup is not only delicious by the way, but it is the go to cure for a cold or flu in my family. I live in Minnesota now and when I got super sick with the flu my dad overnighted me some soup and boom! I felt better shortly after. Don't care if it's a placebo, I cal it magic. I love this place. read more

In my opinion, some of the best Chinese food in the city. Beats out beijing, beats out taste o china, get the fried dumplings and the sweet and sour chicken..it is what you expect to taste when getting Chinese food. As opposed to other places that fall short of even the most basic of expectations. read more

Food and service is good, but the restroom is accesses from outside in rear of building.

Disappointing, if you are a vegetarian you're pretty much stuck with fried rice. Would be nice to have options with tofu.

This place is great. The food is top notch, always good. Prices are reasonable, with portions always enough. Free soup of you dine in. Give it a try read more

We have been customers here for many, many years. Today I paid $5.00 more to try something new for lunch. I could only eat a portion of it, so wanted to take it home for dinner. I asked the owner for a box- she handed me a tiny one and I told her I needed a bigger one- she looked over at my table and said" no, that will fit". I went and got the plate, brought it back to the counter and said "see"? She held out her hand for the small box, so I thought she was going to give me a bigger one,but NO! She grabbed my plate and squished the orange chicken, rice and broccoli all together, even though I said I did not want them mixed. I even offered to pay for a box before she did this! What HORRIBLE customer service! My intended dinner now looks like dog food and because she wanted to save a few cents on a styrofoam container, she has lost us as customers- we won't be back, nor will our friends and relatives!!! read more

cheap great Chinese food. this place deserves an award. love eating here. fast and tasty.
