Even though it was clearly a busy night, the staff at Great Wall handled it like pros. The cashier in particular stood out--hardworking, patient, and still managed to make small talk with customers, including me, while hustling to keep things moving. They did seem a bit understaffed, but you wouldn't know it by how efficiently they got orders out. My takeout (sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoon, and egg drop soup) came out quickly, and I noticed the dine-in customers were also getting their food in good time despite the line. Everyone waiting seemed patient and ready to order, which says something about how the staff kept things moving with good energy. The food was hot and tasty, and the prices were totally reasonable. They are fast and friendly. The prices are good. Even a bit cheaper than most other places. The food is ok. They use dark meat chicken in their chicken dishes and it tends to have a bit of gristle that you will encounter but you can ask for white meat when you order and they will give it to you. I'm not sure if that comes with an upcharge or not. The dishes that are labeled spicy are not. They don't taste heat-wise any different than the non-spicy dishes. The portion sizes are decent but you should eat it all if you can in one sitting. I have found that the food does not heat up well if you have leftovers. It turns weirdly sweet for some reason. Have been patronizing this place for 25 years. At a recent stop there the clerk said it was under new ownership and things have changed. I ordered the usual almond chicken and quickly found out that the food has changed for the worse. It was my second try for these guys and I was hoping that I would have a different outcome a year later, but no. The Almond chicken tasted rubbery, and I ended up taking a charcoal pill just to counteract the stomach ache that happened after eating this. My hot and sour soup was not too spicy or sour, but was still enjoyable. Princess Chicken had a bit more heat, along with generous chunks of chicken and fresh vegetables and two generous scoops of fried rice. The menu offers "small" and "large" serving sizes. I found the "small" was a good, honest serving for one. Ambiance is nill. Service was very prompt and friendly. Prices are very fair. My all time favorite Chinese restaurant. My family and I have been going here since I was born and maybe even before that. The owner/waitress is always kind and remembers details about our lives and asks how we're doing. Highly recommend the broccoli beef and sesame chicken! I have eaten there for years on E. Broadway. Have always loved their food but today was different. It was like they had changed all their recipes. The hot and sour soup tasted completely different. It was even a different color. The dumpling sauce was bitter, not spicy like normal. The egg drop soup was also not good. I am very disappointed. Probably wont be returning. This is the best "Chinese". Hands down. Don't let the strip mall front or the interior that's been the same since they opened put you off. This is not some new sushi/trendy Chinese bistro joint. This is classic Chinese food made down home style. We've been coming here since I was a small child. Food is consistently amazing, and the egg rolls and crab Rangoon taste homemade. My dad gets the same thing every time and the owner and her husband always remember. My dads wife has been trying every item on the menu and hasn't found something she doesn't like. I rely on sweet and sour chicken, broccoli beef, chicken fried rice, cashew chicken and sweet and sour pork. The sweet and sour items have a great batter to meat ratio and the sauce is home made, with huge chunks of veggies and pineapple. The in store soup is not only delicious by the way, but it is the go to cure for a cold or flu in my family. I live in Minnesota now and when I got super sick with the flu my dad overnighted me some soup and boom! I felt better shortly after. Don't care if it's a placebo, I cal it magic. We have been customers here for many, many years. Today I paid $5.00 more to try something new for lunch. I could only eat a portion of it, so wanted to take it home for dinner. I asked the owner for a box- she handed me a tiny one and I told her I needed a bigger one- she looked over at my table and said" no, that will fit". I went and got the plate, brought it back to the counter and said "see"? She held out her hand for the small box, so I thought she was going to give me a bigger one,but NO! She grabbed my plate and squished the orange chicken, rice and broccoli all together, even though I said I did not want them mixed. I even offered to pay for a box before she did this! What HORRIBLE customer service! My intended dinner now looks like dog food and because she wanted to save a few cents on a styrofoam container, she has lost us as customers- we won't be back, nor will our friends and relatives!!! read more
