We live right near Golden Palace, so we pop in there quite often for a quick meal. The interior is pretty cool, with red walls, Chinese art, and clean white linens on the tables. The food is pretty standard and I stick to my faves most of the time, which are usually Broccoli Chicken or Peppercorn Beef (with extra sauce) and they're both good options. We usually will get the soup and do the mix of the hot and sour and egg drop, which is *chef's kiss* Their crab rangoon is pretty mid, but you can't go wrong with hardly any crab rangoons, so we almost always get that. Rangoons come with each meal from what I remember, but only two each, so we sometimes get an additional side of them. My husband's favorite is the Mongolian Beef, and it always comes with lots of sauce and tons of veggies (peppers, which he loves) and is great with fried rice. As I said, Golden Palace is a pretty standard Chinese restaurant that's similar to a lot of others in Omaha. But if you're nearby, you should check them out if you're craving Chinese food - you definitely won't be disappointed. read more

Had a great little dinner at the Golden Palace. It was very quiet, only a few other tables there that night, but the food and service were great! We got the shrimp lo mein and the shrimp with cashews (points for vegetarian friendly) and they both tasted great! The shrimp with cashews came with some fried rice on the side which helped us fill up. There was a pretty good amount of food, we got to take a little bit home for the next day. Came here because a friend said the food here is delicious. I beg to differ, the egg drop soup was super basic and the beef egg roll had miniscule bits of beef in it and honestly it was missing in any real flavor, it was sauteed shredded cabbage with a touch of salt and that was pretty much it, I didn't even taste fish sauce, which is a staple in Asian cooking. The fried rice was really dry and had none of the ingredients I expect to see, onions, peppers, scrambled eggs, sometimes even mixed veggies, it was just dry browned rice. The beef was very tender and had some flavor to it, but was greatly helped by the addition of soy sauce and the green peppers were undercooked. The restaurant itself is very nice and tastefully decorated with traditional Chinese decor. And the servers are super friendly. I wish I could award more starts, but I just can't, I was greatly underwhelmed. I've been going to Golden Palace since I was in high school. In fact, my friends and I went to homecoming dinner there. And it's always had delicious food and great service. Until now. I ordered dinner for my family and I through the Beyond Menu app. I walked in and there was only one table of patrons eating in, but it was early so that's normal. A tall man greeted me after he turned his back on me like I was invisible at first. I had requested extra sweet and sour sauce for our meal. And by the time I got home, I realized we had no sweet and sour sauce. Not even one small container. Nothing. I call them up and I speak to the man who handed me my order, who is the new manager apparently. Mistakes happen. I get it. But not once did I ever receive an apology. And he only offered to give me a $5 credit for next time. We ordered 3 egg rolls and two orders of crab rangoon. It was almost a $70 order and I left a nice tip on there too. Just really horrible customer service on his part. He finally offered to run some sauce out to me, but when someone did, they put in RIGHT in front of my door (instead of to the side of the door). So I had to get on my hands and knees, crack the screen door just to move the bag to the right of the door so I wouldn't knock it over. Common sense would tell you not to put it in FRONT of the door. Duh. SMDH. The crab rangoon were burnt and wayyyy over cooked. The sweet and sour sauce, once we actually received it, was very watered down. The meat was chewy, not tender at all. My egg drop soup was also very watery. I can tell this new management is bringing down the decades of great service and food Golden Palace was known for churning out. And that's really disappointing. Chicken fried rice ---- Not so good 1. Their lo mein. The noodles were on the softer than usual side. The sauce to go with it was bland. Pretty disappointing. 2. They are not careful about the preparation or taste of the food. They are lazy about chopping vegetables or meat into manageable, bite sided pieces. Their favorite ingredient in over generous allotments of msg. I had sweet and sour chicken in which the sauce was watery instead of syrupy. It did not stick to the chicken. I've been coming here since the 1990's. The only thing that has changed in that time is a little bit of the menu. Food is served fresh and always hot when it gets to your table. Servers are always nice, quick and polite. The best thing on their menu was a triple mushroom dish. They dropped it long ago. Wish they'd bring it back! No worries, they have lots of other favorites. Like Dumplings, very good, with hot mustard sauce or sweet & sour sauce or soy sauce. Plenty of meat inside. Sauces are All on the table. fried or steamed, most places don't offer steamed. Egg rolls, your choice of beef, chicken shrimp are large and fried perfectly. Also great is their lo mein, noodles, it's the new best thing they serve. You get big servings of anything you order. Chicken, beef, veggie, shrimp, lots of lo mein options. On the regular Chinese food menu, Broccoli Chicken is excellent. Sesame chicken, almond chicken are all good, too. We ordered to go food a lot during Covid. They are very good at to go too. And it's ready quickly. Prices are fine, we spent $60 on our last trip for 3 of us for lots of food. Honey Garlic Chicken Wings were a bit messy but used high-quality, meaty wings. The wings themselves were better quality than at some restaurants that specialize in wings. Double-cooked Pork was peppery. It was not my favorite presentation of this dish, but still solid. Poor recent reviews made me a bit leery, but the LivingSocial coupon was expiring soon so I gave them a shot anyway. No problem at all using the voucher. So while 5 stars might feel generous, it was literally the only Chinese food place we could find nearby with several vegetarian dishes (not just rice). I ordered the tofu with broccoli and it was the BEST tofu I've had since coming to Nebraska 10 months ago. It had great texture and there was a LOT of it. I'll probably get 3 meals out of this one order of tofu broccoli. The rice that came with it was also more than enough for 2 meals (not quite 3). The only bummer is that the meal came with what looked like crab rangoons which clearly we cant/wont eat. It would have been nice to have a veggie substitute!
