Not my cup of tea. The ominous empty parking lot in the middle of a bright Sunday day should have been a small hint for me but I decided to try this cute spot anyway. The decor is immaculate and the space is very clean, however, the food was the outlier. There is no shortage of amazing banh mis in the Houston area but what I was served felt like the Chipotle-equivalent of banh mis. The bahn mi bowl was a deconstructed banh mi in a bowl; so quite literal. You don't realize the tiny portions until you finished paying for the food and seeing it deconstructed in your bowl. The bread tasted a bit old and stale, and the meat/vegetable portions in the banh mi were on the lesser side throughout. The flavor of the meat was just okay as the fish sauce can do the rest. I would suggest adding more vegetables so that the portions do not look so lackluster. Overall, it was just mediocre for the price. I always ask myself if this is something I can make myself at home when I try to justify the pricing and the long wait times on an empty Sunday. The answer is yes, yes I can.

Ordered take out from here and absolutely loved it very light yet filling the sauces we're definitely my favorite addition! I've never been to the restaurant itself but I have been craving to go sit and try it fresh

My wife has picked up take out before but yesterday was my first sit down visit. Ordered the vermicelli bowl with steak, the steak had great flavor, vermicelli rice noodles, lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumbers, carrots, daikons, green onions, fried onions, cilantro, peanuts and I got the spicy Viet Sauce, lots of crunch from the fresh veggies and the sauce did deliver some heat...me likey! We shared 4 pork fried egg rolls. My wife sampled my vermicelli bowl and liked it. I enjoyed an iced Viet coffee.

The restaurant is inconspicuous, but it is also cute and charming in a way. The food left a lot to be desired. The pork vermicelli bowl tasted decent, but I feel like it should have either been a little cheaper for the size or contained a larger portion. Not bad overall though. The Viet iced coffee was watered down but still passable. The spring rolls were decent, and the peanut sauce was good. Overall, the food wasn't terrible, but I feel $20 during lunchtime can stretch a lot farther at other restaurants. I would be open to trying more food from here, but I am not dying to return anytime soon.

Chicken + Shrimp rice bowl - spicy

Came in lit after a workout, and this place matched my energy. The food? That pineapple habanero shrimp and spicy chicken rice bowl brought the heat without torching my gains. The service was smooth, fast, and had just the right amount of spark. As for the ambiance--cool, chill, and perfect for dodging the blazing sun outside. Add in those #CashBack deals, and you've got a spot that knows how to turn up the flame while keeping it chill.

Love trying new foods and can definitely say this is good food. The environment is chill to enjoy a relaxing date. The Ice cream is Homemade and delicious ,its a seasonal item so get it now while it last.service was exceptional.

VNN has friendly service and tasty coffee and good food. They have a lot of great Vietnamese items and a modern flair, but also a homestyle feel as well. It was my first time visiting this place today and I absolutely loved it! I had a Banh mi and an ice cream with banana rolls. The price was reasonable and the food was great. The owner was there and he was super friendly. I went 10 min after they opened, there were a couple of people, but it was a very chill atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place. I will definitely be back soon.

I tried a bahn mi it was nice the bread was on point fresh carrots were pickled and sweet service it was ok I ask for pork eggrolls they gave me shrimp spring roll I don't eat a lot of fish I don't they got confused but ok, however it did look pretty good for a spring roll as far as using the restroom everything here was clean this place deserves more recognition

Seriously...I love that this is in the ritzy Bellaire neighbourhood with Bellaire Chinatown prices!!! My banh mi were 4.75$ a sandwich!!! You know with increasing rices, this is a DEAL!!! The creative fusion menu, and they have a two feet banh mi!!! My baguette came out soft with a hint of crispness...as if he freshly made a baguette and it just came out of the oven! I loaded mine with Chinese Sausage and chargrilled pork. I love that they left the sou sauce out because I was able to drown my sandwich in soy sauce. It was delicious! Coffee is pre -made and yes it is sweet! Drop by and grab some nom nom! There are only six tables and a bar...I called ahead to place an order: They have a huge lunch and dinner rush...but worth it!

    Burnt dry chicken
    Vanesa V.

Ordered a chicken salad bowl today and was pretty disappointed how bad the food was. My chicken was so burnt and dry as you can see in my photo. I had a few pieces of chicken that were charred so black that I couldn't even eat it. The fish sauce that came with it was pretty bland. Could be why the place was completely empty when I walked in during the lunch rush hour.

We came in for some Vietnamese iced coffee, some spring rolls and a bahn mi chicken sandwich. This place is so cute and loved the wall art. The Vietnamese iced coffee was super strong and made just right. Everything else came out fresh and was super tasty! Would recommend this place to all of the Vietnamese food lovers.

Yum, vermicelli bowl. Very tasty beef, veggies fresh and Viet sauce is on point.

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

We came right when they opened and got seated right away. The restaurant itself isn't super big so reservations is recommended. They have seating inside and outside and most of the booth seating was reserved up already. We weren't super hungry so we shared some brisket nachos and some ribs. Both were amazing. The nachos had an asian flavor which we enjoyed. It had a lot of flavor but wasn't overwhelming. It had brisket, queso, salsa, queso, and some really good chips. I killed it. The ribs were also really good. An order was 3 ribs and they had a lots of tender meat on the bone and delicious flavor. It was a special for the night but I recommend it if they have it. I love that their menu had a wide variety but a lot of the items are fusion and can't be found anywhere else. For instance, they had smoked pork & kimchi eggrolls, smoked banh mi (vietnamese sandwich), and pho-strami sando. It's BBQ with a twist. But do keep in mind they do not do sliced meats or meats by the pound. Their service was good but very slow. It took them awhile to take our order, food to come, and forever to pay. We even went up to pay but they kept ignoring. Their pricing is good for what it is and portions were a good size. They offer happy hour Wednesday to Saturday from 5-9pm. I would come back and try their other items. I recommend it if you're open to BBQ with an Asian twist.

I've come across a few IG videos of Blood Bros., so when my Fourth of July date wanted BBQ, I knew we had to visit their restaurant. It was even featured on The Michelin Guide list, which made it an even more enticing choice. As I approached the entrance, I was impressed by the spacious and functional outdoor dining area that had ceilings fans and tvs around. As I entered the store and made my way to the counter, I was warmly greeted by friendly staff members. One of them was a meat carver, while the other was responsible for taking your side orders. Then right around the corner, the cashier took our drink orders and rang us up. Service was swift and prompt. We ordered: Beef Rib - Minimum order is 1lb ($44.25/lb). My date declared this dish the best out of everything that we ordered, praising it was moist and tender and gave it a 5/5 rating. Brisket - My date said the briskets had a big layer of fat yet the meat was lean and not very tender and would rate it 3/5. Potato Salad - Usually this is my favorite side but I was not a fan of Blood Bros'. Although it did have some contrasting textures to it, I thought the potato salad was more on the dry side and the dense potatoes made it unenjoyable. It was also too sweet for my liking. I would rate it 3/5. Cucumber Salad - The vibrant contrasting colors of green and red makes it look pretty but the taste is very bland and it had very little crunch to it. I would give this side a solid 1/5. Pimento Cheese and Firecrackers - This is the worst Pimento Cheese dip/spread I've had and the crackers were extremely salty. The cheese had a slight chemical aftertaste and an odd texture to it. I do not recommend ordering this dish and would give it a 1/5. The four slices of white bread that came with the meal were dry and more on the firm side despite being wrapped in clear plastic wrap. Note: There's a 3% surcharge added to all credit card payments.

Though I was seated pretty immediately upon arrival, it took about 15 minutes to get a glass of water, let alone place my order. I chose to do the chicken dumplings, green curry shrimp and garlic green beans, and the vanilla crème brulee for dessert. My appetizer came out pretty immediately but my entree didn't come for about 45 minutes. While it was busy, my server didn't acknowledge the amount of time that had passed. I hadn't intended for this to be a 2 hour dining experience but given how long everything took, it was inevitable. Separate from my dining experience, I wanted to note that there is a dress code posted on the website but it seemed that it was not enforced (or only enforced with some people?) which was quite confusing. The crowding by the bar that spills into the seated dining area was also quite overstimulating if you sit in the front of the dining area upstairs. Overall, I have heard great things about some of the menu items and I would be open to returning but not any time soon.

Not only is it extremely tasty in its own right, every bite of tofu is a moment I sincerely cherish, but it's also noteworthy in the unique way they cook the tofu. The tofu is fried and caramelized in a sweet, yet savory coating, which, paired with the vermicelli and all the vegetables, allows you to decide how much sweetness you want with each bite. The service here is also extremely top notch, they're always extremely friendly and food and requests are fulfilled with the blink of an eye! My main reservation about this place, and the reason I couldn't in good faith give it 5 stars is that most bites I've tried from the dishes of friends or loved ones have been underwelming to say the least. That paired with the fact that the prices trend a bit high (even though the portion sizes are more than fair) makes me hesitant to recommend this place if you aren't planning on ordering the flame wok tofu vermicelli.
