It's been a while since my last visit. Menu expanded and the interior is closed. Arrived during lunch time and place was buzzing. Placed my order at the counter for the bowl with grilled pork and egg roll with fried rice. After ordering, you get a number and find an open table. Service was fast. It did not take long before food arrived. The egg roll was crispy and came out hot. The pork was well marinated. It was cut a bit thick so some pieces were chewy. Came with the fish sauce that complements the meat. Fried rice was decent. Overall, this is decent place for Vietnamese fast food. Plenty of choices like banh mi, wings and others.

Had to leave another review unfortunately. I have dined in and been at this restaurant about 3 times this past week because I love the curry. Unfortunately I ordered a drink and filled it at the tea stations and once I got home while drinking the drink I noticed a roach floating in my drink. Not only did I immediately throw up it was small enough that is came out of the dispenser here. I was horrified and livid and when I called they were pretty nonchalant about it. Even though I had my drink comped the idea of drinking something for the past 10 minute not knowing their was a roach inside is extremely unsettling! I could've swallowed that! Gross! Good food but I won't be back. Yuck yuck yuck yuck

I LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH!! My favorite things to order are the curry and the pork banh mi. Literally chef's kiss! Also such a cute, casual place for lunch with the girlies

Solid. Came here a few weeks ago and had to come back again. Loaded up with 12 banh mi to take back to Austin!

Roostar has been on my Houston radar for some time. If you've followed me over the years Yelp I'm Rooster to the local long term Austin peeps. Obvs, if you manipulate a vowel I was destined to try this place. First locations weren't exactly close to my adopted H-Town hood. We arrived on Saturday after a concert the night before in Louisiana. Hit some pawn shops and sat off Westheimer searching Yelp for something familiar or new. Don't know when this location opened but it's a welcomed edition to a growing local dynasty. Simple order at the counter process. Grabbed our drinks and waited for our food. Only one gripe. You order an appetizer; it comes with the entrees. It should come before your main dish arrives. With that said the chips and "dip" was a nice start. The provided curry (with beef) is seasoned perfectly. My box with noodles, pork, and eggroll was a nice dish. The fish sauce was subtle but flavorful. I also liked the sweet chili option as well. Her box with shaved Ribeye, salad, and eggroll also wowed. Expand to Austin!!

The food was delicious. The restaurant was clean. The service was overall good. I had an employee ignore me but everyone else was super attentive. Not sure if the employee just didn't hear or see me. I'd definitely return.

Roostar Vietnamese Grill has been in this location for a while and the whole time I haven't explored their menu and dishes. Many times I've come across these branches and they always seem to dilute the quality of the product that is produced for the masses. I have to say that Roostars or at least this location is legit. I've explored their menu and their bahn mi and the quality and size are worth getting. The previous times I've ordered their vermicelli bowls the first time I tried their grilled pork which is a fan favorite and this last time I ordered their pork belly. Each bowl along with their protein comes with lettuce, carrots, peanuts, fried onions, cilantro, cucumber and an egg roll. All very tasty with a balanced amount of protein and vegetables. I would also recommend a side of their egg rolls too. Perfect crispness and plenty of proper filling. I would also recommend their Thai Tea or Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Definitely give any Roostar Vietnamese Grill a try.

The Special Banh Mi, Grilled Pork Box, bulgogi fries

The only reason Roostar is getting a four star is because of the special bahn mi. If it weren't for the bahn mi, I would not frequent rooster nearly as much. My sister and I ended up ordering the special bahn mi, the grilled pork box and the Bulgogi fries. The special bahn mi: this bahn mi featured a variety of cold cuts, pork belly and the best and most unique part of this sandwich: the pate. Everything was so delicious together. The bread was nicely buttered, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sandwich also featured a nice array of fresh vegetables that paired well with the rich meats. I finished my meal and went back to order a bahn mi to-go. The grilled pork plate: this plate of meat was very subpar. The grilled pork was not flavorful enough. The texture was a little bit mushy, and overall there was nothing appealing about this plate that would set it above its competitors. The plate was expensive, and the portion size was also quite small. The Bulgogi fries: these fries were my least favorite dish of our meal. First of all I did not expect to get potato wedges. I feel like Bulgogi fries only go well with crispy straight fries. The Bulgogi on top with thick, not thin and saucy like Bulgogi should be. I will not be ordering this dish again. Overall, the service was nice and the ambiance inside gave off a good vibe. I would come back but, only for the bahn mi.

Ca Phe Sua Da is legit.

Did they get rid of the papaya salad!?

Yes. I asked cashier on 10-10-21 and they no longer have it.

Did you recently change your fried rice recipe?

i went in recently and the managers were complaining to kitchen staff in a group meeting that they are very inconsistent with food prep and execution. their food always tastes a little different because they don't stick to recipe.

Why did Roostar get rid of the Agave Vanilla Cream Soda (from Stubborn Soda)? That was the best one!

Pretty sure it was Stubborn Soda that discontinued it. No longer at Velvet Taco either.

Does this place use MSG in their food?

We don't use MSG in our food

There's also dessert of coconut, fruit, and jelly (I ate so many bowls of it!). The staff were so sweet, and picked up our used plates fairly quickly. The pricing for the buffet is quite fair, at $16.50 per adult and $8.50 for kids under 4 feet. Hours are good, though there is a gap between 3pm and 6pm Mon-Thu, so keep that in mind. Also, you can order a la carte! They have quite a few delivery orders come in while we were there! My only note is to come closer to the busier hours. I got their wagyu nigiri, which comes with two pieces, and their signature ramen. The signature ramen is well-balanced and is creamy. You can definitely tell that the noodles are hand-made. The noodles are curly and bouncy, and I really enjoy their texture. All the meats within the signature are tender and soft, melting in your mouth. The ramen here is a bit pricier than other locations, but I do believe the quality and freshness of the ramen really shows. The wagyu nigiri was good, but nothing special per se. The meat was quite thin and was a bit lackluster. The interior is quite small, which leads to some wait time. I recommend going earlier before they open to secure a spot and to avoid long wait times. Parking can also get crazy in the plaza during the weekends. Staff was quick and attentive. The grounds of the temple is well manicured and neat with flowers. A big red sign read, "Govinda" was positioned so that I wouldn't miss it. As soon as I walked in at lunch time, the restaurant was damn near empty with only two families. The host immediately sat me at a table front of the buffet line. There was a strong lingering smell of pine-sol and Mr. Clean in the air. Of course, that indication told me that the restaurant was clean. The items on the buffet line was plenty, but limited. I got the rice, tofu curry, chaat marsala, and some vegetables. Everything except for the chaat was bland. It wasn't very easy to eat while the smell of cleaning supplies was in the air. It reminded me of sitting in a bucket of cleaning chemicals while eating a meal. The tofu curry tasted only like turmeric, but no salt or pepper or anything. The rice was super bland. The chaat marsala was very tasty and well seasoned. I finished off with desserts which both options were tasty. I will say that there's a nice variety of salad, soup, and homemade feeling Indian dishes that everyone really liked. I particularly enjoyed the salad dressing (an avocado cream), the veggie lentil soup, and the spinach potato dish. Unfortunately, the special of the day or a dish near it (the soya Manchurian? Or the curry?) triggered some kind of inflammatory allergic reaction for me, so I had to stop eating.
