If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food-- this is NOT IT. My husband and I have been to multiple Vietnamese restaurants in the Bay Area California (San Francisco & Daly City) and a couple of places here in Houston, so we know the flavors and dishes well. We went here today because my husband was craving for some Vietnamese pho. We decided to try it. It's a small and simple little restaurant. We sat wherever we wanted. Not very busy or packed. As we were flipping through the menu-- we were already disappointed. They didn't have many selections, as we're usually used to. Very limited. The little appetizer plates they gave us were a little greasy and dirty. You can see where it was picked it up. Side note: my husband really wanted pho. There was only ONE pho option (and you can choose your proteins) BUT they didn't have the tripe, and other ingredients that my husband loves in authentic pho. So he didn't get it. We also asked for regular sweet chili sauce (for the calamari because we didn't like their sauce)-- which ALL Vietnamese restaurants usually have-- they didn't have it. It took 15-20 mins after we ordered our food. We ordered: *Crispy Calamari Rate 2/10 - only because it was crispy and came out good temperature. Wasn't seasoned well and not the flavors I was looking for *Grilled Beef w/ Rice (instead of vermicelli noodles)-- no veggies Rate 1/10 warm-cold dish served, small portion for their pricing and the flavor wasn't what I was expecting *Grilled Pork w/ Rice (instead of vermicelli noodles)--no veggies Rate 1/10 warm-cold dish served, small portion for their pricing and the flavor wasn't what I was expecting *combo Beef and Pork w/ Rice (they ran out of vermicelli) my husband was pretty disappointed about them not having vermicelli noodles. Rate 1/10 - warm-cold dish served, small portion for their pricing and the flavor wasn't what I was expecting We still ate the food cuz we were hungry and didn't want to waste. Personally, I think their pricing doesn't match the food portions, quality and flavors. The lady gave us some sandwiches w/ some creamy stuff on the side and apologized for them running out of vermicelli. That was sweet of her. We were so disappointed and just wanted to get out of there. Cravings not satisfied and we're not going back here again.

Such a cute place to go to and feels like a hole in the wall restaurant thats such a gem. Once my friend and I entered, I believe the owner greeted us and I was able to speak Vietnamese with her. When I asked for recommendations she was able to narrow down a few in each section and we ended up picking 2 of them. The Thai Tea was sooo yummy. It was a good ratio of dairy to tea. We got the spicy lemongrass to share and it was such a good portion! The crispy lemongrass on the rice was not too overpowering and a great crunch to the meal. Actually good for 2-3 people. Getting an extra serving of rice was extra though.

Exquisite in every sensory experience....HEAVEN on a plate of food. The server was quick & always on pointe. A joy to dine there tonight. Although I've been coming here for 8 years, the sweet owner gets better & better. A real magical treat given she's gracious perfection. a true fan. Mark B Music was divine. A rare feat considering she is gracious PERFECTION. Bon Appetite!!

    Beef pho and papaya salad

Decent place.very empty due to covid we were the only customers there. They gave us amazing service and free dessert (likely due to that). Wasn't the best pho I have had in town. But good enough seeing this isn't a pho specialty house. Papaya salad was good!

Stopped into this establishment for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm always in the area and love Asian cuisine but have never visited and that will change. The service was spectacular and the food was even better. The food was so fresh and delicious and we were soo full afterwards. Not pictured are egg rolls summer rolls that we literally inhaled. 10/10 would definitely recommend.

I also order the pull pork sliders which were great, and the queso with chips. The chips weren't the best to my liking. They were pretty thick and hard, verses the light and crispy what I prefer. I wish the watermelon wasn't a spicy one or at least had the option to get it non spicy. Good thing I was allow to get it blended, with a non spicy. The chip that comes with the dip had a spicy on them as well. Theirs no option to get chips without spicy seasoning; it's all a mix, you just have to pick out the ones you want without spice. I would bring my son back to try their smash burger on the happy hour menu for $6.

The mapo tofu is one of the best we've had outside of Bellaire with spicy, savory, numbing, and warmth that you expect from a good mapo tofu. Crispy popcorn chicken is a classic that's spicy, lightly fried, and crisp. It has an authenticity that other places around can't replicate and makes you keep craving more. The portions are also appropriate for their price. Service is incredibly quick, and you can order as you go and receive your dish within 10-15 minutes, regardless of how busy they are. As for the ambiance, it's loud, it's hectic, and it's simple... maybe a stretch, but makes me feel like I'm eating at a mom and pop shop in the heart of China. This place is definitely a go to if I'm convincing a friend of Houston's great food scene! Rating: 4.5/5

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

We also tried the viral crab rangoon burrito. It was heavily filled with cream cheese and not much crab. You definitely need to dip the sauce to pair with the creaminess, otherwise you would not taste anything besides fried cream cheese. Overall, I will say that this is not for me. I arrived about 20 minutes before opening and had to wait outside in Houston's summer heat 93'F. While there are a few benches, there is very little shade, and guests are not allowed to wait inside. When the restaurant opened, there was no clear system for seating guests. Even though I was first in line, several people rushed in ahead of me, making the process feel disorganized. The biggest issue involved a $300 gift card that my friend had received years ago. She simply asked the staff to check the balance. When the server returned, he told us the manager had cut the card in half and that the entire balance had to be used during that visit. What bothered me was the lack of communication. We were never informed of the policy before the card was invalidated. If that is the restaurant's policy, it should be explained clearly beforehand. As two ladies having lunch, spending $300 was difficult, so we ended up ordering far more food than we normally would. The sashimi was fresh but cut thinly than what I've had at comparable restaurants. The hamachi kama, chirashi, and lobster mac and cheese were good. The green tea soufflé cheesecake was the biggest disappointment. For $10, it consisted of three very small cubes and felt overpriced. The waitstaff were attentive, friendly and professional, which helped salvage the experience. However, between the uncomfortable wait outside, the chaotic seating process, and the poor handling of the gift card, this visit did not live up to my previous experiences. While I have many good memories of Kata Robata, I'm not sure I'll be returning anytime soon.

I think we may have went on an off day because I have tried takeout form this place that was delicious, but on this day the food wasn't my favorite. We did overall enjoyed our experience and time and I would recommend giving this place a try! We ordered a total of 5 dishes and everything seemed very authentic to Sichuan cooking. With Sichuan cuisine though, a lot of the food will be on the oily side, so keep that in mind. - Eggplant In Spicy Sauce (5/5): Definitely order this dish! You can tell the eggplant was prepared well because it retained its beautiful purple color and luscious shape. The flavor was sweet and savory seeped well into the eggplant. My only comment would be that there wasn't a strong garlic flavor, but it was still so tasty I think it deserved that 5/5! - Mapo Tofu (2.5/5): I came here specifically for the mapo tofu but was left a bit disappointed. The flavor was pretty good and had that strong Sichuan pepper spice that lingers after a while. My issue with the tofu was the consistency of the sauce. I found it to be very thick and clumpy in an unpleasant way, almost like eating little gelatin pieces. I would probably come back to try it again just in case this was a bad batch, but it's hard to compete with wanna boa's mapo tofu. - Spicy and Crispy Chicken (4/5): Pretty juicy and crispy chicken with a slight kick. I love anything fried chicken so I did enjoy this dish but it was pretty standard and there wasn't much to write about. - Red Oil Dumplings (3/5): Pretty standard oil dumplings. They weren't really spicy which would be good for people who can't handle spice. I think I would've liked a bit more meat filling but overall not bad. - Dan Dan Noodles (3/5): I loved the texture of the noodles but I found the sauce to be kinda slippery which made it hard adhere to the noodles. I also thought the flavor could've been a bit stronger. Service/Ambiance: the interior of this place was super cute, especially the upstairs area. I loved the dim lighting and tiny table lamps which gave this place a cozy romantic feeling. The outside was also interesting with an all black exterior and no sign. That might make it hard to notice or find the restaurant, but that did give it a more hidden feeling which was nice. Parking was also abundant and service was great!
