So I am a Pho lover. Unfortunately my pho here was not good at all.. I ordered the Spicy Lemongrass Pho with Beef and it was horrible. Plus, the portion was very small. The only reason I didn't give just 1 star was because the customer service was great, but the Pho was disgusting. read more

If you eat Vietnamese food pretty often you probably want to avoid this place. First of all it does not even taste like Vietnamese food... it was over priced compared to other Vietnamese restaurants, portions were less than other Vietnamese restaurants, taste was just awful. I ordered a bowl of Vietnamese noodles (pho) Broth had a tangy smells almost like left over broth, I also ordered Vietnamese bread (banh mi) was just terrible, the chicken was hard and dry.... and lastly I ordered their milk tea.... it was straight up taste like condense milk and water. I didn't expect much when I decided to choose this location for lunch, and as I assumed, it was horrible. This establishment is way different than the other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. They adopted the self service that I have not seen at other Vietnamese restaurants. Order at the counter, pick up your food at the counter, get your own veggies at the vegetable station, put up your own plate and bowl when you're done. I thought the vegetable station was pretty clever since it's more efficient that way. Customer can get the amount that they want, which saves the restaurant expenses. I ordered a regular Pho bowl with rare beef. It was a downer. The broth was extremely sweet and greasy , too much noodle, too little meat, not to mention their vegetable station doesn't even have basil, a must have for Pho. The restaurant itself was filthy. The sauce and chopstick holder were dirty. Look like it haven't been wiped in months. I also thought that $10 was overpriced for the quality that you receive, but i guess they have the advantage of being the only Vietnamese restaurant that's close to the University. read more

Forced 10% tip for a self serving place. I have even cleaned my own table afterwards . Pho soup was that bad. But the price was not cheap. $8.25 for regular size and $9.25 large. I also liked the beef brisket. Rare beef was too hard to chew. read more

Clean and new location conveniently located two steps from Fry street and UNT. Hands down one of my favorite asian restaurants in Denton. This location is a little more speedy than the other so it's perfect for a quick lunch rush. Moderately priced Vietnamese food made with passion and smiling facing. Been going to enjoy the AWESOME Bành Mi Sandwiches (only 5.50) since before the second location was here. The Pho and noodle bowls are also great. Its hard to not recommend it all here. I ordered the tofu fries and they were so salty that not only could I not eat them but they hurt tongue and my lips they were so salty. It was miserable. If you walk through the front door of this restaurant and expect authentic Vietnamese food, I suggest you turn right around and walk out! The foods are just plain bad. The broth in the pho was bland and had no flavor. It is as if they used beef broth in a can and then water it down. The quality is about on par with ramen noodles coming straight out of a bag from the grocery store. The best thing served at the restaurant was the iced coffee, which was average at best. The presentation was just atrocious. Pho was served in a cardboard bowl and they give you small plastic spoons which are typically used to feed infants or small children. Practically, everything is self served. One positive thing is they do have a decent, clean restroom. read more

Use to go to the location on fry street all the time. I stopped going a few months ago because they stopped making their sandwiches correctly and used stale bread. However, on this wonderful Friday afternoon I stopped by for some pho because I was sick. I asked for the spicy lemongrass. It was like drinking the devils butthole it was so hot. DOOKIE... Only had the beef pho 2x but i've went back maybe thinking it was a fluke on how bad their pho is. Super bland, tried adding as much hoisin (love)and sriracha (which I'm not fond of) just to give it flavor. Also added mountains of salt and pepper and it was still below mediocre. Head to pho asian star in Lake Dallas if you want that real ish viet bites has the most bland pho I have ever experienced. Ordered food online for pickup. Picked up got home to find no meat on my bahn mi. Called in to let them know but didn't want to waste a trip back to go back. Let me say first that this was the best place to eat within walking distance on that side of UNT campus. I loved coming here. I brought guests here. However, today I ordered the Red Thai Curry Special. It was delicious, nice and spicy. Everything was great until I pulled out a long black hair. "Gravity happens" I thought. As I dug around the bottom of the container with my spoon, I found TWO more hairs. Ok, once is an accident, three times is suspicious. I'm not a forensic scientist, but I could tell they weren't from the same people. What is going on over there? Old fashioned hair nets should be in order? Perhaps they should pay their people more so that I don't become a victim of passive aggressive behavior? Who knows the cause? I do know for certain that I won't be visiting again anytime soon. read more

Wow... I thought I'd try these guys at this location since it's Sunday and their original Elm street diner is closed on Sundays. I never like their Pho at the Elm street location (it is awful! I tried it 3 times and finally gave up) so I always only order what I feel they are competent in making - lemongrass grilled pork. You see, I am vietnamese and I am always in search of good viet joints to eat. And Viet Bites' only item worth eating is their lemongrass pork. It is great.. HOWEVER, when I came to this location in Hickory St, fully expecting a different concept in delivering food, I did not expect the food to be different as well. Apparently they have the Shawarma style rotisserie meat tornadoes doing the "grilling" instead of the traditional way of doing it with the seasoning. I did not see this until after ordering and waiting 17 mins for what I thought was a safe purchase with my 2 sandwiches. What I got as grilled pork was charred pork from this rotisserie (i was first in the door at 11:30am!) and tasted like burnt fat that is hard from the charring and had no taste. Pathetic. This is NOT vietnamese Banh Mi !!!! I get it- they are tailoring to UNT student who may not know much better about viet food, and in some cases just looking for grub, but to pass this crap off as viet grilled lemongrass pork banh mi is a exaggeration and darnright misleading or lying. No authentic vietnamese restaurants would serve this stuff. I will try their original Elm Street location one more time to see if the operations have changed. If they have, I am done with this place. Try Asian Star in Corinth for decent viet food. They have better Pho as well. read more

Always for the most part get great service but I don't understand why after spending 7 dollars on a sandwich I am not allowed to put limes in a to go container? I've never had an issue putting toppings on my sandwich but the young woman 6/18 acted as such and even came out behind the register just to tell me it's for "pho only" which honestly there needs to be a god damn sign if it's such an issue. It was super embarrassing. Keep in mind I live across the street and come here about twice a month. I don't know if she was bored or what but honestly it's not that serious. It was just limes like calm down. She did offer me some while wrapping my sandwich but I like to dress my own sandwich. Getting limes and putting onion flakes should not be such an issue after a customer paid 10 dollars for a sandwich and a drink. Super disappointed in my visit Saturday especially after talking so many great things to my friend about it. Will not be showing any more friends any time soon. So I suggest y'all get a sign that says "for pho only" on the fresh veggies. Also the "not h2o" thing on every soda dispenser is super condensing. At the end of the day my visit just turned me off completely and I'll just have to take my bi weekly craving elsewhere. Especially after we tipped!! Like that's insane. Get a sign or chill out. A great place to get some killer Vietnamese food really quick. The food is great with a pretty simple menu that offers lots of room to experiment with new meals. Delivery can be slow but it probably takes a bit more time to prep and deliver this compared to a pizza joint. read more

Viet Bites has been a favorite of mine for years. Never got a chance to go to the original location, but the newest one is delicious. Their pho's pretty good, and their noodle bowls are the best thing on the menu! Everything's always been fresh when I ordered and the owner even remembered my name after a handful of times meeting him. Definitely a perma-spot on my list for Denton eats, highly recommend it. Snarky staff. I was short $0.04 and she was really rude about pulling a nickel out of the tip jar even tho I had tipped her a $1 in the same jar.. And we spent $6 on our banh mis, which were doused in and reeked of stinky fish sauce... Their recipe is not good, I've had plenty of amazing banh mis at authentic Vietnamese restaurants.. This sandwich was not enjoyable. And we were getting extra toppings at the toppings bar and were told that it was "only for pho".. Even tho we paid the same price for our sandwich. I'd recommend the tofu sticks which were really crispy and were sautéed with a combination of garlic, onions, jalapeños, bell peppers. This appetizer really reminded me of salt and pepper squid that I like to get at Vietnamese restaurants (minus the squid part!)...so it feels like a good option if you don't eat seafood. I tried the beef pho and thought it was just okay. The broth was overly fatty; a good pho broth should be clear and flavorful. The vegetarian pho though seemed to be a big hit among my friends; it's made with a vegetarian based broth and included pieces of avocado which seemed to enhance the broth flavor according to them. read more

I just went here for the first time tonight and ordered pho to go. The inside is horrible- super hot inside and the music was blaring. Aside from that my pho was alright, the broth they gave me was super bland but I added the extra chile paste, sriracha and hoisin and got it nice and spicy like I like it. Chicken wasn't the best, it was kind of charred, some chewy parts. The cardboard bowl they give you doesn't hold up well and noodles get stuck to the bottom. There was a garnish bar but I'm not sure how fresh or how long those veggies have been sitting there. The best part about the pho was the fried egg I added. But really, how can you go wrong with fried egg. I'll get the pho again and I wanna try the Bon mhi, but I'd never sit down here the atmosphere is awful read more

I love viet bites and crave it frequently! I think the new location is a little better because they offer different flavored boths you can choose from for your pho noodle soup. The Spicy Lemongrass broth is my personal favorite. The staff is friendly but can be a bit overwhelmed if 3 or 4 people order at the same time. read more
