Don't waste your money here. Their food is horrible. Pork was very fatty & not grilled as it was supposed to be. We ordered Vermicelli noodles with lemongrass pork & Banh Mi sandwiches. Every piece of the pork meat was fatty & no lemongrass flavor. The sandwiches were disappointing - soggy, the veggies were not pickled & pork meat was fatty too. Had their VB special with beef for the sandwich protein and chicken for the pho protein. Probably should have tried the beef brisket for the pho one as I was eyeing what others ordered. Extremely average! Definitely not bad but incomparable to every other Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to. No matter which broth I get I'm always let down by the lack of flavor, even after loading my bowl full of fragrant toppings. Today I tried their banh mi for the first time and for $7 I think it's a much better choice than the pho. With a simple menu this place achieves a good variety. The food is fantastic and It's one of my favorite lunch spots. - Good Pho, Good Sandwiches, Good Bowls, and Fresh Tea. My only complaint would be the price on the sides, while the main attraction is at a fair value some items, namely the egg roll, are way over valued and if you'd allow a nitpick, the seating is a little funky with either wooden booths or sometimes uneven chairs at table, the high tables are by far the best. I was in the area on business and was craving Vietnamese food and saw this review. The food was not great. I ordered pork vermicelli and the veggies were fresh, egg roll great, but the pork was fatty, even just fat chunks and it wasn't grilled as I was told. Furthermore, it tasted old and wasn't even room temperature. I can't recommend this place. The restaurant was dirty- from the moment I walked in the floors were sticky and dirty. The drink machine was filthy and grimy. The counters were also covered in grime. The service had some students who couldn't care less about me as a customer, much less their only customer that was there. Overall, I'd say save your money. read more

On a windy and cold day in May, not even 50 degrees to be exact, I was heading down Elm St. in Denton. I was looking to see if there were any food trucks over in the area. So I wasn't really looking for any certain food in peticular. Then I saw Viet Bites. I remembered back to 35 Denton and they had a little table set up out on the square but I never tried their food. Honestly I didn't even know it was a restaurant, thought it might have been a food truck. Glad I wandered today... As I mentioned, cold day. So pho was a pretty good choice. They have bahn mis and bun (vermicelli) bowls as well. Beef, chicken and tofu are the main options and everything you would expect to accompany the pho came with it. Limes, cilantro, basil, sprouts and jalapenos. The broth was tasty and with a little sriratcha even better. I liked all the noodles and all the fresh veggies gave a nice crunch to it. On a cold day, pho hit the spot. It is a small and really nicely done up place. Lots of green and cool light fixtures. It is a place I will return to. Support Denton businesses. Enjoy. read more

The most mid, below average rare steak pho I've ever had. My spoon had some leftover gunk from the previous customer staff was nice tho.

VB has grown and expanded it's menu, and I like what they've done. None of their food contains MSG, which would explain some concerns about "flavorless" pho- but that is what all of the other condiments that are readily available can add to your taste. I've been more adventurous there lately, readily trying the specials they offer daily and it works! The last time we went in, I had the tofu fries for the very first time. I love tofu. I love that it looks like a french fry. But the garlicky sauce on top of it is what made me eat the entire batch. My hubby was lucky to get one bite and this may be one of my needs any time I come here. It was recommended that I try the shaken ribeye. Normally, I can't stand ribeye, too much fat and stringy but this. Well, this might make me a fan of the dish here. Tender, with a lime pepper sauce to dip it in, was really good. Plated with jasmine rice and a small salad it was really good. We finished with the creme brulee topped with strawberries. Torched to perfection with that delicious crust of sugar, again, I asked why they brought two spoons. I love that dessert. The Vietnamese coffee is amazing too. I was stuffed to the brim but couldn't help greedily eyeing the Viet tacos they took to another table. Perhaps another day. And, yes, I do eat Viet food once or twice a month. Introduced to it in the Richardson/Plano area. So, while it may not be THAT, it is still wonderful and much more convenient that a trip around the metroplex. And, the staff is pretty much amazing. If you don't get exactly what you want, say something about it- and let them have a chance to fix it. The grilled pork spring rolls, tofu pho, meatball pho are great. If you're in the mood for seafood pho, just ask them to throw some lemongrass shrimp in the beef broth to satisfy that urge. Add Sriracha to everything and enjoy :) read more

I'll be honest I'm a little sad with their veggie pho :( Was just the broth, tofu, and the little bagged toppings (jalapeño, onion, etc). Didn't really have any veggies like broccoli, bok choy, carrots, etc. It tasted very good, just wish it was more colorful with veggies :) read more

the inside vibe is wonderful; granted, my girlfriend and i went here at 1pm on a summer friday, but apart from some lofi beats and sounds from the kitchen, it was incredibly quiet. as i'm autistic, i really appreciate when a restaurant is on the quieter side, as it's easy to get overwhelmed in bustling environments where you can barely hold a conversation. the food took a bit to come out, but i only assume it's due to everything being cooked to order. i got the standard pork banh mi, and it was delicious, if not a tiny bit bland (but that's on me for avoiding any spicy sauces or ingredients!). the sandwich is huge for 6.75. the highlight of the spot was the cucumber limeade. not sure what i was expecting when i ordered, but it blew my mind away. frozen, not too sweet, and possibly the most refreshing drink i've had in my life. i've found my new obsession!! everything is very laid back and relaxed; i had issues with my card taking to the register, and didn't feel rushed or judged for even a second. wonderful quiet spot with fairly priced sandwiches and a good location off of fry! read more

Please do not think that this is what a bowl of pho is. 1) it should not cost 12 dollars for a large bowl of noodles with only a couple slices of meat. 2) You should not have to pay extras to get lime and vegetables 3) you do not take a bag of insta-pho and then sell it at a restaurant.. if I wanted that, I would have gone to the asian market and got me a bunch of insta pho and made it better. Decided to pop-by since I passed it on the way to school. Parking is kinda tight, so be careful when pulling in. Upon walking in I walked to the register and looked at the menu, they have it located on the top wall or they have ones in a bin on the left of the register. If you're dinning in and not taking out then sit down at a table and they will serve you (confused I walked in an ordered at the register). I ordered a avocado smoothie with boba and a vermicelli noodle bowl with lemongrass pork. The avocado smoothie was pretty standard, not the best i've had but also not bad, i'd order it again. The high light of the vermicelli bowl was the deep fried jalapeños. They were great! I usually don't eat jalapeños, but these were deep fried an not too spicy, I gobbled them up quickly. The other vegetables in the bowl were pretty standard. The lemon grass pork was a bit more charred than I usually like my pork, but it had good flavor. The noodles were cold and undercooked, I didn't enjoy them so I say stray away from them. The service was great, my server was attentive and helpful. I noticed that a lot of people ordered to-go and take away, it seems that this place is geared more towards that kind of food. I noticed that they have a pick up window, but I didn't see anyone actually drive up to pick up anything in it. Another thing to note is that they served my avocado smoothie in a glass, so if you are prone to not finishing your boba drink I think it would be beneficial to ask for it in a plastic cup. 3 stars sums it up. It's really not that great but it's the only place in Denton where I can get a decent bowl of hot pho. The broth here is a little too light for my liking. Service here was painfully slow but hopefully they will quickly get it down and not make it a norm. We waited 45 minutes for our pho to come out and the place was not full. I have waited for so long... finally... Denton has A Vietnamese restaurant to get a bowl of authentic Pho. When I first stepped into the Viet Bites, I was immediately greeted with a sweet and delicious scent,. Turned out is was from the cooking of the coconut waffle. Although just opened less than two weeks, it is already having a full house of customers. A good sign! I came here for the Pho, so this review is just about the Pho noodle served at Viet Bites. I ordered my Pho with thinly sliced rare beef steaks. I could report back happily that it didn't let me down. First of all, it came with all the right side condiments. Second of all, when the waitress brought out my bowl, those thinly sliced beef was still in that beautiful pink color, which means it was served the right way with the right timing to ensure the tender texture of those slices. And lastly, the broth was light but good. In my opinion, the Pho was kind of small for the price, and the noodle texture is a little bit soggy. To be fair though, I did perhaps wait too long before digging into my noodle bowl. This brings up another important tip for enjoy a bowl of Pho. Don't wait on your friend's order :-), and enjoy it immediately after it is served. BTW, for vegetarian friends, Viet Bites also offers Pho with tofu in vegetarian broth. read more

This place used to be one of my fave Vietnamese restaurant in denton about 8-10 years ago when I was student. Well decided to return back since I was in town. Nope not any more. Well I was only one first table when I came in and it take about 30 mins to get my foods. I feel like they just hiring young kid with no cooking experience and the foods was not good anymore. First off , it's quite chilly outside and yet the outdoor and indoor seating were the same cold temperature. They really need to turn the heat up if everyone has to wear jackets in the restaurant. Also, the tables were un bussed, but that's just due to the busy servers. Second, it took forever for us to be served and even longer for our waters to come out. The three of us ordered the tofu fries and the calamari. Alone, the tofu fries were bland but with the sautéed garnish (diced onion and green bell pepper) they were crispy slices off goodness. The calamari had the same garnish although when eaten alone they were a little too salty. Overall the food would merit at least four stars but the service and environment merit it 2 stars. read more

I grew up amongst a lot of Asian folks in the Richardson/Garland area. Many hard-core Vietnamese food lovers will still remember that same corner in Richardson that had at one time 3 or 4 different Vietnamese places. (Maybe Beltline or First, just off Central Expressway). Ironically had been hoping to find a good Pho in Denton since I moved my office up there in 2009. Hadn't been too successful and had to settle for beef soup from the local Chinese/ Thai places. This place came up and solved that for good. It's in a place where a hole in the wall taqueria was, literally 500 yards from my office. Food for the most part great, but the Pho I had ordered didn't have any tripe and that's one of my favorite parts! I asked the owner and she said that they didn't think that would go well in Denton, but promised to have it the next time I was in to visit them. True to her word, they were definitely in when I went back. It rates pretty good, though certainly still a bit "Denton-ized." Can't fault them for that. It can be a bit slow during the lunch and supper hour, but that's great news for them staying in business. I tried the shrimp spring roll, it's just fine. They have shrimp chips as well, and my daughter loves them. The owner has three boys herself and has always been very gracious and sweet to my daughter, who is 6. Just like the place before, they do struggle with a funky sewage smell at times, but I know from experience that was there before they took over. I also tried the Bun and it was very good. Pork on it was pretty tasty and the vermicelli noodles went well with it. She suggested it as an alternative because summer time is a little too hot for Pho. They will take call-in orders, again, it can be a little slow at times. However, that's cause they're busy and not because they're inept or rude about service. read more

This is a review written after about my 12th time being here. I've tried most of the menu, and the Pho Get the Meat Pho is my favorite on the menu. I'm not strictly vegetarian, but I find that dish to be the most flavorful, as well as comforting. I'm a big fan of their bunh mi as well, and i'll usually order boba tea as well. The staff are always friendly, and I liked that the owner renovated the patio area. I've never seen the place be empty, and the employees working tend to play cool indie music. I accidentally stumbled upon this place while trying to get directions to the Hickory location. I must say I enjoyed the atmosphere of this locale much better! The service was just the right amount and speedy! I got the Chicken Bahn Mi and the Tofu fries. The fries were delicious but the whole thing kinda suffered from a lack of dipping sauce with them. As another reviewer said the Rangoon sauce could have worked with them and may try that next time. The Bahn Mi was wonderful, minus the bite of chicken tendons/skin I got in the sandwich. If it wouldn't have been for these minor details I would have rated this place 5 stars. The prices are beyond reasonable for what I got. Overall 4 1/2 stars, and a happy, satisfied belly. read more

Always ask for the specials and always get that! They are awesome, and waiters are very helpful when selecting a meal. The ribeye with egg on top is amazing. So is the pork chop with egg on top. We love sitting out on the patio. The musters in the summer make it nice. This place is great if you are craving something unique but don't want to spend a ton. What happened Viet Bites? My last visit here was a 4 star stellar and now my experience today makes it 1-star worthy. Again, I ordered my usual Vietnamese vermicelli noodle salad bowl as the last time I came here it was really good. Last time I came I mentioned that the portion size was small... Well it came out today and it was even smaller, just presented in a bigger bowl. The lettuce and the rest of the salad overpowered and consumed the bowl and no this is not a good thing- the portion of the vermicelli is comparable to the size of the small sauce bowl they give you. I finished my meal feeling unsatisfied and still hungry. To top it off, my friend ordered an avocado milkshake together with his meal.. We waited and waited, saw others that had ordered theirs after us get theirs.. Still to no avail, nothing. At the end of our lunch it still hadn't arrived that we had to remind them. In addition, are water refills not done here? Our waiter didn't bother to top our water.. Shocking service. Overpriced. Small portions. Price isn't justified, mediocre. Whatever. The Super VB roll or whatever it's called (spring roll with and egg roll inside) was alright. Soggy vermicelli and wasn't rolled very well, but it cured a craving. The bahn mi was fine, nowhere near the level of Pickled Carrot, but was tolerable thanks to the bread. My issue with Viet Bites is that it has introduced pho a whole bunch of people, but who will then think that this is what pho is supposed to be. Wrong. The broth is weak as shit, the choice of meats is incredibly minimal (I know having tendon on the menu is a stretch, but c'mon), the noodles aren't right, and the portion is tiny. The broth should be rich and deep, and I should be able to eat it without HAVING to add something to it - even though I always do. The condiments should enhance the broth and make it to your personal taste, not flavor it entirely. I would be much more forgiving if Viet Bites focused on their pretty cool off-menu specials and the well-reviewed desserts, upped the ante on the pho, and called themselves Vietnamese FUSION (which is absolutely what they are). As it stands, Denton is still lacking a true Vietnamese restaurant. read more
