I came here with my 2 granddaughters 8,11 they absolutely love this place it's ta family favorite. The love the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. The beef tacos the prices are amazing I had the pineapple with chicken peppers onions rice delicious. The chips are homemade along with the salsa. The burrito fajita is also huge and. Wry good . Very good Mexican! I had the chicken tinga taco salad- very tasty in a fresh fried taco shell. It was a a little salty but I know Tinga tends to be. Also pictured is the chicken enchiladas... Just look at that presentation! There was a different on each one, very unique! Our server was an absolute doll, very attentive, sadly I did not get her name. We appreciated that she did not rush us as we were on a date and just wanted to enjoy each other's company as we don't see each other that often. The jalapeño cilantro margarita... a must have! What more could you want in a Mexican restaurant! Atmosphere reminds me of vacationing in Mexico. It's completely authentic. Sitting at the bar is the best. Staff are so polite and attentive. They answer my many questions about ingredients (I have food restrictions). They're clearly honest with answers too because I have never been sick going here. It's always a flavorful time at Vida Mexicana. Vida Mexicana is our go-to sit down Mexican restaurant in the Wallingford area for lunch and dinner. It's located in the Lowe's Plaza next to Chick-fil-a. The dishes are so full of flavor, saucy and fresh. I will crave for their enchiladas. Last time I dined in, I got the Enchiladas Vegetarians. Served with a bright, colorful, green spinach sauce, the enchiladas were stuffed with freshly roasted zucchini, squash, mushrooms and corn. It's so delicious. They have a vegetarian section on the menu too. My favorite dish is the Shrimp Chipotle. A medley of shrimp, mango, pineapple, zucchini, onions, peppers in a slightly spicy, cream chipotle sauce, served over rice. This is a must try. A couple other dishes people in my group have liked are the Carnitas Tapatias and Veggie Yucatan. I do like that Vida's menu isn't overly complicated like some other Mexican restaurants. Every time we dine in, the staff and our waiters have been so nice and attentive. Everyone we encounter throws friendly vibes, from when we are first greeted in and when we leave. Vida Mexicana is conveniently located on Rt. 5 in Wallingford. The restaurant is fairly large and there is ample parking. I sat in the bar area for dinner, around 5:30pm. Service was fairly fast. I ordered a coconut cream margarita and it was very good. I ordered a coconut mojito post-dinner. I ordered the three enchiladas meal. I had one left over, as I'm not too crazy about ground beef. The two I had were good, but not great. The rice was cooked well, but I wasn't too crazy about the beans - maybe because I'm used to having refried beans in a Mexican restaurant? Overall, I would return, but try a new dish. No room for dessert this time, but I'll have to save room for that next time! The service was excellent. read more

First time diner. Service was great, very attentive and the margarita was huge and very good. Salsa with the chips was great, just spicy enough. Ordered the fajitas, and it wasn't good. No flavor at all. Just sauteed peppers, onions and the meat was so bland. Usually fajitas have some kind of seasoning. This had nothing. The sides to build the fajita were sour cream, pico and the usual rice and beans. All in all very very bland. My partner liked his dish, so maybe we'll go back at some point to try other things. read more

Quick stop with the Mrs after a bit of Home Depot shopping across the road and this place has changed hands/mgmt a few times now so we thought why not. I got a margarita flight with 3 choices and the Mrs went for a single classic margarita. Drinks were great with complimentary warm chips and salsa to start with. We shared one appetizer shrimp wrapped in bacon and 3 regular tacos which had beef, chorizo and pork I think but tasted amazing with the side sauces. I came for Cinco de Mayo, & as you can imagine, it was busy. They had zoned off a portion of their lot for strictly outdoor drinking. For those who had to wait the hour for a table, it was convenient. Our party of 4 were given the same time, but Our booth took about 15-20mins. While I'm extremely grateful, I wonder how much business they lost when people didn't want to wait it out. We were sat in a dining room, on the outskirts of the bar, so we definitely heard the music & caught glimpes of a people dancing. Our pleasant waitress took the orders & even repeated them back, which I always like. If something goes wrong, you know it was the kitchen lol! I ordered table guacamole & while it coukd of used more salt, it was still delish. I could taste the lime, onion, garlic, etc. The issue I had is that the table across from us also ordered the same & they received tableside. I was disappointed, but at least I saw it made for someone else. The Taco Barbacoa wasn't as great in my opinion. While it was stuffed with shredded beef, the meat itself was dry. I poured the salsa that accompanied the complimentary chips, on top, along with some guac. The rice & beans were room temperature. I found myself urning for water. Although, my small skinny margarita was made perfectly, with a healthy amount of alcohol, it wasn't doing the job. Our waitress was a gem & made sure to check on us periodically. At one point, we did get the impression, our time was up. It was understandable, since it was a busy holiday for them. I wouldn't mind coming back on a regular night. read more

The service here is amazing, and it's the reason I'm giving five stars instead of four. First of all, I have a tomato allergy- I know what you're thinking, don't go to a Mexican restaurant, but I wanted to. The manager was so knowledgeable about what's in the food, that he accounted for something that we didn't think of initially, in fact we called back and he mentioned that he had already taken care of it! Now to the food, we had the guacamole, I had the carne asada tacos, and my husband had the supreme enchiladas (he doesn't have allergies!). The guacamole was pretty good. I enjoyed the tacos (they were huge)! I don't know why, but the rice and beans were so delicious- and it was just white rice. My husband loved the enchiladas, it's like a sampler platter. We actually were going to go to another Mexican restaurant and because I missed a turn and there was a lot of traffic, I said, let's just go here. So glad I did. It was a first for me and not far from "home" but had never been there. It shares the lot area as Lowe's, Panera Bread and Chick Fil-A but you can easily see it from the street. The food was INSANELY good. I had such a craving for good Mexican food and I am so glad that we ended up here. We had the enchiladas and lettuce wrap taco's and couldn't have been happier. I'm usually honest with my reviews and I was let down to be honest. The service was not there. The employees have this kind of I don't care attitude. They take long to come to the table to ask if you're doing okay. (FYI we were here at 2:30 on a Saturday and there were only 4 tables with customers, so it wasn't busy) The woman with the light brown-ginger like hair was not it. On to the food- the chips and salsa were a 5/10. The chips tasted like they were dipped in old oil to make them warm, and then you have the salsa. It was actually great. Then came the food. I had the steak quesadilla with a side of refried beans. My friend ordered the enchiladas supreme. The quesadilla was probably the best thing from everything we ordered and my friend agrees. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the onions were amazing. The quesadilla crust also had a perfect toast. The enchiladas were a major let down. The enchiladas were cold! Like it was cold inside. The rice, and meats were cold. They tasted like they were premade, the enchilada sauces, canned beans, dry chicken. It was terrible. When we told one of the "owners", he said okay I'll tell them and then see, and he never came back. My friend refused to send it beck because they don't feel comfortable doing it, since the employees didn't give off a friendly attitude. Then no one did anything and they gave us the check like they wanted us to leave. When we told them again about our experience, they took off 4 dollars. No apologies, no would you like to speak to the manager, nothing. They got to our table faster with the check, without even asking them, then for the time we didn't have any silverware when we got our food. I'm disappointed, because they have POTENTIAL! read more

I was shocked to see this place didnt have at least 4 stars - let me get started with my praise chain because this place is in my opinion THE BEST Enchiladas in middle CT!!! Now, I eat a quite a lot of spanish restaurants fancy and food truck style, with my fiance from Argentina / Peru, so we've got a good taste for it all . however the enchiladas here put every other place to shame. I always get the verdes suizas which is not too spicy for those wanting to try new things, and he gets the supremas which has a little bit of all the sauces and fillings chicken = super juicy EVEN FOR LEFTOVERS!! sauce = extra saucy rice and beans = super moist and flavorful free chips + salsa which isnt super spicy either :) i like a medium heat if you're looking to go big or go home, go for the dish thats served in a giant pineapple - i tried it once and it was legendary , just a little too spicy for me unfortunately :( sorry the pics were half eaten- i was so excited when she put down the plate i just went INNNN SUPER friendly staff too (spanish / english speaking is a plus! good place to practice my spanish and not feel embarrassed. they're always super kind and understand what I mean if I dont quite say it right) , it can get a bit crowded weekends and service well def slow down , but if you're only bringing 2-4 people they'll still get you in and out in about an hour. read more

This restaurant recently change names and/ or ownership, I'm not exactly sure. However, the place remains the same, if not better. I frequently will get tacos or fajitas. This time I tried the chicken al pastor lettuce wraps, which were phenomenal. The tableside guacamole is always great as well. You will note that my photos are taken in to-go containers, as I did pick up on this particular occasion. I am a big fan of Mexican food, and this place is Pretty decent for local cuisine. The staff is always friendly and the food service is typically quick and delicious. The restaurant itself sometimes has a mariachi band and the lighting is somewhat dim. However, it contributes to the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. This place is also great for some margaritas with chips and salsa. There is also an option to sit outside on the warmer days, which I particularly like. If you have the opportunity to stop here, I would recommend it. read more

Someone brought us back the card and receipt to sign. No drink. I went there this weekend and I ordered a taco bowl. I never had a taco bowl that didn't have rice but the waitress brought me a side of rice and didn't charge me for it. This review is for the takeout, we have eaten at the restaurant and the food has always been great and the wait staff is excellent. We've been long time customers, since they were Plaza Azteca. We liked it so much that even though it's about an hour round trip we started to get takeout from them, this is where our troubles started. Almost every time we ordered takeout something would be wrong or missing from our order, we even started using there website to order so there would be no communication barrier, this did not help. This last time we ordered I gave the our 3 meals a quick check in the parking lot before heading home and it looked right, however the tacos have foil wrapped over the center of them. I get home and we unwrap our tacos to find they have no toppings on them at all. We now have 3 orders of just tortilla with meat on them, an hour round trip wasted. We call and I ask to speak to a manager and they said the manager was too busy but they would relay my message and see what they would do. I explained the problem and even told them how far away we were. After the talk with the manager they offered us a $10dollar rebate or we could come and get the toppings for the tacos. So 10 dollar rebate for a ruined meal or drive another hour to get toppings for some nice cold tacos. I packed up everything and went back. I talked to the shift manager, who was pleasant and got a full refund. I explained everything and told them about all our take out problems so they would be aware so they could potentially fix this for future customers. She took my number and assured me the manager would be calling me the next day to set things right, it's been about 2 weeks and I never received any call. This was the last straw with this restaurant so we will be spending our money somewhere else. read more
