It's truly a pleasant and colorful place! Especially in December, details big and small are a feast for the eyes. The staff have been friendly as the decor each time, lucky us. Never mind the atmosphere, the food is always comforting. Arroz Con Pollo here could be my last meal, though enchiladas and fajitas always make it a tough decision. I think this place might actually be a hidden gem of Middletown. It's located in a plaza where the movie theater is, just off of the Main Street, but I really think it deserves a spot ON Main Street. When you walk in, the walls are painted and colorful with images from Mexican culture and beautiful decorations throughout the restaurant, without feeling cluttered at all. The wait staff was very friendly and made sure our drinks were always full. The food was out in about 15 mins on very hot plates. I had dinner tonight (a Friday) at Puerto Vallarta in Middletown. We showed up without a reservation, hoping it wasn't packed, and it wasn't - we did go a little early - around 5pm! The waters and chips and salsa are brought to the table almost immediately. I love the salsa here - I couldn't stop eating them! Today was unseasonably warm, so I ordered a piña colada to celebrate! We both ordered the shrimp ceviche, and while it was good, there were some changes made to it since the last time I was here, that I didn't really like. As a heads up, Tomatoes and celery were added, which I like, just not in my ceviche. It was also less limey. The shrimp were great (very tender) and the serving was large. I would definitely return and try something else ( I normally just get the shrimp ceviche) or ask to customize the ceviche. Great dessert menu, but we were too full! After a very recent mediocre experience at another Puerto Vallarta location, this one delivered. It had been a number of years since I've been to this location, I certainly will be back to this location, if not for convenience alone. Ample parking outside in a shared lot with a movie theater and a few other businesses off of Main Street. A spur of the moment Thursday early afternoon trip led me to drinks and apps with my friend. My party of two arrived to an empty restaurant, but we were quickly brought to our table. A little unclear who our actual server was, multiple different gentlemen came by to serve us drinks, food, and how to check on how we are doing. Margaritas were decently strong, I went with the skinny margarita and my friend went with a frozen strawberry margarita. Our margaritas were served in hurricane style glasses but that certainly didn't diminish the fun! We slowly imbibed and ate our table side guacamole and decided we wanted queso. The customer service here is like no place else. Everyone is pleasant and genuinely nice. The food is delicious and flavorful. The amount of food served is plentiful. I always went while I was working so I never tasted the drinks. However they look amazing. I only had one issue here. I'm pescatarian and there was a piece of pork in my lettuce. It was separate from my shrimp quesadilla so I just threw out the container. I'm allergic to pork so I make sure I ask if they are busy so my shrimp and onions aren't cooked on top of pork juice. read more

This was my first time at this location and you would never be able to tell from the outside that they are open. The area it's in is a bit desolate but there's ample parking and you're able to be in and out. We got there around 3:15pm on a Thursday and it wasn't crowded at all. The host sat us quickly and brought over some menus. Puerto has one of the best guacamole's so we opted for that, along with quesadillas and a white sangria. The guacamole was fresh as it's made right in front of you but the quesadillas were just ok. While we had a decent experience, the three stars is because the interior needs some TLC to create a better ambience. read more

Should have stopped there as it was a meal in itself! Ended up taking most of my delicious fajitas home! Everyone working as team making sure we were never without a drink, or empty on chips and salsa. Our meals were incredible! We went to Puerto Vallarta in Middletown last night for some Mexican comfort food, as I'd call it. This place is usually pretty consistent in quality. The Downtown restaurants appeared to be very busy, so we stopped here and there were plenty of tables available. This restaurant is located in a plaza off Main St, next to the movie theater, and has plenty of free parking. The service was polite and friendly, but just a little bit slow at times. The food was pretty tasty. I had the Carne Asada it's my usual go-to dish there that fills me up. For dessert, I had fried ice cream, which I would not get again. First of all, it was massive but tasted kinda old like the whole thing was just taken out of the freezer and was plated and brought to the table in 15 seconds. It had corn flakes rolled on it, or at least that's what it tasted like. But it was fairly priced for its size, and definitely a shareable size. I've been to Puerto Vallarta several times and would go back though. They have a massive menu with a ton of options in the traditional fare and Tex-Mex style, as well as several vegetarian options. The drinks are awesome .. they came super fast and I got a frozen blended coconut margarita which blended drinks feel like they take forever to come, but not here .. within 2 to 3 minutes you'll be enjoying one. My coconut margarita was delicious and perfectly smoothly blended .. no chunks of ice getting stuck in the straw and they didn't skimp on the tequila either.. For the appetizer we got table-side guacamole. Was so amazing, fresh, vibrant, and flavorful. The guacamole was very customizable from heat level to ingredients.. to even how much lime you like in it.. needless to say there was none left.. and they brought us out a batch of hot fresh crispy tortilla chips to go along with it .. was just soo good! Definitely a must try if you haven't had fresh guacamole before. For my entree I got the arroz Vallarta which was so delicious and tasty the amount of steak, chicken, and shrimp you get is very plentiful with peppers and onions smothered in queso over a bed of rice.. and the portion was very generous .. you will not leave hungry coming here.. they even offered tortillas to eat with your meal as well. 1 Star for really bad service!!! Family has been going to this place for years. Food for the majority is good. This review is simply for extremely bad service. Ordered out, wasn't able to get a proper food description over the phone to start. Ended up ordering what we knew and liked. The food came without sauce as described and without guacamole in 3 dishes. I called immediately back before even touching the food, letting her know that there was no sauce and no guacamole. She asked me if I wanted to bring the food back, and I said I would come the next day to get at the very least the guacamole. When we went back, she played stupid and tried to tell us that the food didn't come with guacamole, not upholding her original commitment - which we immediately proved her wrong while looking into the menu, as she herself wanted to prove us wrong. She started arguing and was simply nasty. We asked to speak to the manager who wouldn't move but kept looking around the corner. She wanted to give us 3 ketchup containers of guacamole, which we said, that's ridiculous, and she kept arguing that the appetizer was much more. We said if we have to pay for half of the appetizer portion we will, which was outrageous to begin with. Instead of continuing to serve us, she wanted to help other customers, not even trying to place the order. Eventually the manager agreed to make the appetizer which by then we were really pissed, as she argued with us literally for 20 minutes. Never had such a bad experience over something so simple as guacamole. They provided the wrong food, had missing items on the plate, and had the audacity to lie to us, and treated us so disrespectful until the very end. You should be ashamed of yourselves!!! As a follow up, management has reached out and has very professionally apologized and will make sure that this won't happen again in the future. If it was not for two of my closest friends I would have never gone out to dinner at Puerto Vallarta. Never in my right mind would I have thought that this restaurant was so worth it! I absolutely love Puerto Vallarta! It's a bit on the pricier side so be prepared to spend money but it's always so worth it. Their margaritas are large and in charge and there's so many different varieties to choose from. The staff is always really friendly as well. We had a great waiter last night who was really attentive and kept it fun. You get chips and salsa as soon as you sit down as well which is always delicious. They have a lot of vegetarian options on their menu, last night I got a veggie quesadilla and it was bangin. Went to middletown restaurant. Will never go back. Had chicken enchilada. shredded chicken was like CHEWING ON ROPE! Dry, no flavor. Refried beans was soupy, NO FLAVOR. "Spanish" Rice was yellow and an also NO FLAVOR. Gave feedback to waiter and he just said that he knew shedded chicken was dried and other people had complained. WHY SERVE IT? OK, I stumbled upon this place on the way to the beach and YIKES! I was so taken back at the service, quality of the food, and variety of options on the menu. It was just around 11am on mother's day when we scooted in here and we were welcomed with a smile. Chips, salsa, and waters were slapped on the table as soon as we were seated. We opted for a little of everything - queso dip, nachos, fajitas, tacos, and a chimichanga. Every single thing was FANTASTIC. After living in San Diego, I hold a higher standard for Mexican food and nothing has really lived up to the hype in this area. We have been going to Puerto Vallarta for years. I'm a Middletown native but we've been to the one in Avon too. Last night I was home to visit and decided I wanted reliably delicious Mexican food. I was surprised to see they updated the inside since the last time I was there. It looks lovely. One wall features painted "windows" and has portraits and quotes in Spanish. The other wall has Frida Kahlo and many others. It's beautiful. After my first and only visit to Plaza Azteca where I had disappointing chimichangas, I had to get one. It was everything I wanted it to be. Crisp outside, delicious seasoned beef inside that wasn't dry. Guacamole and sour cream with cheese and salsa on top. Then beans and rice on the side. They also always provide chips and salsa on the table. My stepdad always gets a chili relleno and something else - this time a burrito. Both were excellent. The service was a little lackluster but the speed with which they turn out meals and the quality for the price simply can't be beat. I love them. read more
