Just…read morebecause I wrote one review recently didn't quite mean I was warmed back up to Yelp just yet, and if I'm being honest, I'm still not. Between a removed review causing me to go missing from Yelp for 6 months and losing my trust in posting my reviews here on Yelp, I let go of my Elite status and am now back to square one. But after driving my mom to Manor Inn so she could attend an event there, I decided to look up spots around there since I did spot that their wait times were going to be extensive. That's when I decided to go here and see what was good. Honestly, after I encountered the parking situations in both places and went into the restaurant, I knew I had made the right call. I was seated immediately, given a menu, and even given some complimentary chips, salsa, and a plate of refried beans sprinkled with some cheese. Now, refried beans and salsa are not foods I would normally eat because my food palette don't usually like those items. But with these tortilla chips, they were both very flavorful, and given this was complimentary, they were all the more appetizing. I should also mention that my waitress, Sayda, was very nice and prompt whenever she came to my table. Answered any questions I had, and had no problem with my orders. So from the menu, I went with the Tropical Twist, their Calamari for an appetizer, the tacos de barrio for dinner, and even ordered churros to go so I have something for when Winter Storm Fern dumps 80 million inches of snow tomorrow and into the next day. Oh, might I say, everything was delicious! I knew I couldn't have alcohol because I still had to pick my mom back up and then drive back home to Waterbury, but that Tropical Twist was a nice consolation if you can't have alcohol. The fried calamari was also another great choice. That dip it came with was so addictive it was like crack, and the perfect thing to pair with fried calamari. If there's one thing I would say could be improved, it's that they could be just a smidge more liberal with the fried coating. There were some pieces that had some small spots that had no coating at all, but nothing too major. For the tacos, MMM MMM GOOD! The meat was tender and flavorful, the presentation was great, and the consome paired deliciously with the tacos. It's definitely worth the $20 they cost. The churros were also pretty good. I can't say they were the best churros I ever had because the place that made my favorite churros ever closed down back in 2024 and had since become a dog grooming place, but if not for that, then I might make a case for that statement to be true. The chocolate syrup it comes with is divine and a nice sweet treat to finish off the night. I was in and out of the place in maybe a slight smidge above half an hour, so I would say all-in-all I'm glad I came. The place is also well decorated, bathrooms are clean, and the ambiance is inviting and casual. Now, I may still need to gatekeep a few reviews here and there, but this place was a step in the right direction in getting my confidence back in Yelp. I would definitely come back here again whenever I get a chance, and I highly recommend coming to check out this place if you're in the area. Oh, and for comparison's sake, it was an hour and a half between when I was finished here and when I could finally pick my mom back up again from Manor Inn. Take that as you will.

The person working, who I assume may have been Hugo, was very nice and helpful. They serve tacos, tortas, tamales, burritos, quesadillas, soups and salads. They listed various meats on the menu, but on this day, they only only had Pastor, Lengua (beef tongue) and shredded chicken. I ordered one taco of each and a Passion Fruit Agua Fresca. The tortillas were very good. Each taco came with cilantro, onions and a shredded mild cheese. They also gave me Salsas Rojo and Verde, and a white container that I assume was sour cream. I don't normally order chicken or Lengua, but I thought they were well executed. The pastor didn't seem like pastor. It tasted good, but it seemed more like a pork sausage. The restaurant was fully packed with tables set for 2 and a few bigger tables set for slightly larger parties. There was also live music playing throughout the night. Once we reached the front desk we were offered a "fixed" menu that included an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert for a total of $85 per person with no drinks included for said package. The food was delicious however the wait time between each plate was far too long in addition to this it took 4 attempts to get water served to our table. We decided to cut our meal short and have our remaining entree wrapped up as well as the desserts. Which brings me to my final point. At my previous visit to mamajuana cafe with a full table of 6 each with 5 alcoholic beverages, 5 entrees, and 1 appetizers. The bill was about $420-460 (give or take a bit as it has been a while) with tip included. For our 3 course meal for 2 the bill with tip included was $309.87. Although I would probably still come to the establishment to grab another bite I would recommend refraining from coming on a holiday such as Valentine's Day if you don't want to drop a heavy dime on the food.
