Tequila's food is always on point. It always hits harder than your cousin's karaoke performance after a couple of margaritas.However, inside interior is outdated. It gives abuela's dining room that hasn't changed since 1996 vibes. If the decor had a MySpace it will be playing Gasolina on its page. However, you come here for the flavor fiesta. Service is always superb as well. The waiter this time around was observant & bubbly. He kept cracking jokes like if it was open mic comedy night. There was Spanish music playing on speakers. I was vibing & almost got up to start dancing like I was in a mariachi band. My go to meal is the La Parrillada. It consists of grilled pork(really bacon),chicken, & steak(I always add on shrimp),Mexican sauce served w/ rice,refried beans(umm,umm w/ cheese on top),lettuce,avocado slices, & corn tortillas . I minus the pico de gallo sauce(I'm not a fan of onions yeah I know,I know but it's my nemesis like Superman w/ kyptonite). My food took a little bit to come out but I munched on the complimentary chips & salsa. When my food arrived I was ready to devour like a T-Rex dinosaur. I made myself tacos w/ the corn tortillas like a professional Lego building master. I packed it up w/ rice,beans,& meats/shrimp. It was mouth watering! I felt like a vampire drooling over a victim(like the Sinners movie). Ha,ha! They're famous for their signature drinks. You can get a regular sized or super sized drink(like if you were in a '90's Mickey D's). They have a full bar w/ anything you desire. From wine to beer to mixed drinks & more! I decided to stop by after my day, wanted a night out to myself. I'd say the vibes here are definitely immaculate. I decided to start off with a Cosmopolitan, and later got a Pomtini, but since they didn't have Pomegranate Juice, I had it replaced with Cranberry Juice. Both were still really tasty, and my favorite part was the sugar on the rim, made it taste so good. I got some Elotes, honestly they were okay, the corn was more on the undercooked side, a lil hard. The wings were actually pretty good, the meat was juicy. I had a lava cake for dessert and it was pretty tasty too. I also had the nachos w/chicken recently since I stopped by again, but didn't take a picture. Honestly, those were eh, the nachos got soggy really fast and weren't crunchy, so that was disappointing. Overall everything came out pretty fast, I wasn't waiting very long. Leo was an amazing bartender, great conversation. Visited today, realize the name was changed to tequilas Latin fusion. Once our bill came, we realized an 18% gratuity was added on. I was there with one friend and we sat at the bar and then realize there's a cash price versus a credit card price my friend and I split the bill, I paid cash. She paid with a card and we were still charged the entire credit card fee, I did call the restaurant to complain and he said that they have a sign in the front. If I had a problem I could call the credit card company. Would just like to warn people. My friend and I were each about the tip 20% in cash until I realize the gratuity was already added. read more

I was visiting the area and came over with family on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. The complimentary chips were a tad less crispy than average. Maybe they were not freshly fried. The rice that came with my beef enchilada was not cooked evenly or just not fresh. Some grains were tougher than others. I asked for the adobo sauce and it was nothing spicy about, despite being marked as spicy on the menu. BF got the beef fajita that came with a few tortillas and a trio of sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo. The peppers in the beef fajita were nicely charred but the onion pieces were dry and some beef slices were literally burnt. It was oily and could have used more salt. I had a few sips of BF's frozen margarita and didn't even taste the alcohol. The cup had cactus leg and looked cute though. We ordered churro, flan and fried ice cream for dessert. Churros came with a nice presentation and a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the center, topped off with a dollop of whipped cream. They were crispy on the outside but doughy on the inside. Maybe the temperature was too high when they fried them and did not cook long enough for the inside to be done. Flan was presented upside down and the real surface of top was overcooked so that part tasted egg-y. Fried ice cream was covered with cornmeal (I think so). Not a fan of the outside because you get the grainy bits stuck in your teeth. The food was below mediocre though I had a nice time with my people. read more

Stopped here for an early dinner (4pm) in a Saturday; we waited to be noticed for a minute or two when we entered and were only one of 4 parties in the place. Given this time and lack of diners I would have expected much better service! My husband and girls had been here before and enjoyed the food and wanted to share their experience, sadly today the "experience" was poor and the 3 stars are entirely for the food, we even reduced our usual 20% tip to 10. The ordering process was very awkward with the server misunderstanding our orders several times, but we eventually got there. Drink refills were slow in coming and chip refills never came, with the basket we did get containing mostly broken pieces, the salsa was delicious, with fresh cilantro but very watery and slopped around the bowl when we received it. Even with the delivery of the guacamole ($5.95) no further chip refills! We ordered the coyote wings which were tasty and nicely cooked just a little soggy though and pretty much just thrown on the plate. My husband had the pork Flautas, amazing ... delicious... and no complaints. Pollo Sinaloa which was delicious was my dish; unfortunately they initially brought pork instead and I had to wait for 10 minutes, while my family ate, for the correct dish. This was after they brought us someone else's food! My daughter had steak taquitos which she enjoyed but were actually more meat-only taco rolls than the fried/ baked rolls of cheesy meat and vegetable we've had elsewhere. The bill came to $75 which was a about average with the food and a virgin strawberry daiquiri, two beers and a soda. With so many choices around for Mexican food service can make or break a place. Huge margaritas and great prices with a very friendly staff. The best thing about Tequila's is their margaritas. Generous on the alcohol and prices that are very reasonable. Some can be overly sugary, but let's be honest, that's pretty much par for the course at most bars and 20 to 30 ounces later and you won't be all that critical... The bartenders and staff are incredible. Not only are they friendly, but they have been known to pour free drinks and shots. Once I went there with a group of friends and one for them had clearly too much to drink...the bartender refused to serve them any more. That's classy. Sad when price gouging ruins a good meal. As a regular visitor of authentic Mexican restaurants all over the country I was shocked to see my usual selection of CARNITAS priced at $15.95. As I always try to order that dish I have paid as little as $9.95 up to $14.95. So $15.95 was a new high. To add insult to injury they charged $1.50 for a refill on chips which is usually free; no warning on the menu about it. Then $1.50 for a small dish of pico de gallo and 75 cents for a SMALL cup of sour cream. The portion of carnitas was small for $15.95. On the positive side the chips and salsa were some of the best I have had in a very long time. The chips were really fresh and crispy. If I eat here again would just order nachos after checking if they use the regular chips and Victoria which they did have at $4.00 a bottle reasonable and NO real Mexican restaurant should be without. read more

The place definitely needs an update. I do however enjoy the lack of pretense in the food here. There's no major attempt to add pomp and circumstance to the food. The food is solid and served up in a diner styled fashion. I enjoy the chimichangas here. There is a pretty good selection of Mexican beer on draft and in bottles. Despite the lower Yelp reviews here, there is a reason this place is pretty consistently busy. Stopped in for lunch today. We had some mango wings for an appetizer. Crispy, but not much flavor, my gf felt they needed some salt. I ordered the Burrito Grande for my meal (which is really 2 normal size burritos), one with chicken, the other beef. Beef one was good, chicken one really didn't have any flavor at all. Rice and beans on the side, not much flavor either, very bland. My gf ordered the Acapulco salad, didn't finish it all, she told me it was OK. This place is local for us, so we end up here every so often. Really the only reason we do come back. The staff seems friendly enough. But out here finding an establishment that serves one was proving to be a challenge. Well I showed my boyfriend photos of what they were and he said "if any place would have them, it would be here". So on Cinco De Mayo we came here for dinner. It's in a small plaza next to what seemed to be some shady ass bar with a cop standing out front. Hmm not a great sign. Walked in and the place was pretty big, nothing special to look at to be honest. Kinda in the "Denny's" category. So I wasn't expecting much. I asked the hostess about the "drink" and she said "yeah we have those". I was ecstatic! So we sit down and I ask our server and she looks at me like I'm crazy. I explain the drink and she says "oh we call them Pitbulls". Either way.. Yay!! So I had a Strawberry Coronarita and my boyfriend had a Jalapeno one. They were divine and everything I remember them to be. Thank you Tequilas. Ok now for the food. The Chips are made of corn which i don't particularily care for. To me they're like eating little bricks. The salsa was bland, but add one of the hot sauces from your table and you have a winner. Now I ordered the shrimp chimichangas. The rice was "meh". The beans.. well they're beans, you can't screw those up. The shimp Chimichangas. FAN FREAKIN TASTIC. The second best chimichangas I have ever had. (Second to Ramos in Bastrop, TX). This was THE WORST mexican restaurant I've ever been to. My family ordered taco platters and I ordered wings for myself. The wings were COMPLETELY AWFUL. To try to explain this better: they tasted like MONTHS OLD microwaved watered down chicken. I am 100% sure without a doubt that the wings were old and microwaved. On top of that they had ZERO "sauce" or flavor. Absolutely awful. This here is the worst part. The fucking mens bathroom: It is - A ONE PERSON BATHROOM - WITHOUT A LOCK ON THE DOOR - AND THE TOILET IS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROOM SO YOU CANNOT STOP SOMEONE FROM WALKING IN. This is a hidden gem in Waterbury. A little off the beaten path, but worth every second. Fresh authentic food, amazing dessert menu (get the fried ice cream and the churros). Had the combo, combined chimi, soft taco, and enchilada and it was amazing. Chicken was very tender and very well marinated and seasoned. Rice and beans were perfect. I met some friends here for dinner on a Friday night and it was not crowded at all, which was surprising considering how great their margaritas and their food was. They have a large selection of margaritas and it was the first time I ever saw an orange margarita. It tasted like a tequila-laden creamsicle. Yum! Plus, it was super huge and since I'm used to Boston prices I thought it was a steal at $8.50. Did I mention it had tequila in it? No skimping on the liquor here! The menu was pretty big, we all had trouble deciding what to get. And when the food came it completely covered the table there was so much of it. I ordered my meal along with my group and I was the only one at the table who did not receive their meal. When the waiter finally walked by after some time passed and everyone else was eating, I stopped him in mid track from walking right by us, and asked about my meal and he looked at me like I had 2 heads. So I asked if he did place my order with the cook and he said no, So I decided not to get the order. He then disappeared for over 20 min. He never even brought us our check we had to go up to the counter to request the check. I explained what was happening only to be met with a nonchalant shrug of the shoulders. I felt very brushed off and not appreciated as a customer. The staff was not helpful and not good at their jobs. Others at the table didn't appreciate their meals because the temperature was not hot, and we felt as if we weren't important to them. Yes, they do serve huge margaritas here, but it was the worst tasting margarita I have ever had in my life! Seriously. It had a 3 to 1 ratio of ice to margarita, and tasted like chemicals. I'm sure they used Roses lime juice, which is the death knell of any cocktail. Just awful. If you're gonna call your restaurant "Tequila's", you might want to consider improving the quality of your tequila-based drinks. Just saying. While the service was very good, the food was the same old mediocre fare served at every run-of-the-mill, Americanized "Mexican" place you've ever been to. Very salty and lacking in real flavor. Chips and salsa were commercial and sub-par. Overall, I'd call the food passable, but barely. Very good food! All homemade. Lots of choices and friendly staff. Husband orders the shrimp sauteed with garlic and cheese, now its my sons fav too. I love the cheese, chili relenoes with verdi sauce. As well as their chicken chimi's or beef burrito--slow cooked meat that falls apart!
