The service was very slow. Seems like the same person who took our order was the cook, server, cashier, busser and everything else. It took an hour and a half from the time we ordered to cash out. There was only one other table in the restaurant while we were there. The food was just ok. Not like it use to be. The "pancakes" are not not even in the same ballpark as anything I know to be a pancake. It was a thin, burnt, chewy piece of damp flour. Absolutely the worst. I asked the server about them and she said that that's the way they come now. Too bad, this use to be a good local place you could grab a bite year round. Not anymore. Well the cafe is open again after the fire. Glad they were able to reopen. Sad to see the service, food and prices changed along with the remodel. Don't plan on being in any kind of hurry. Took over an hour between getting help and being served even though there were only 4 other tables. The food was sub standard. They used to make the best pancakes but this time they were about as thick as a crepe and burnt. Bacon was over done and at the end of it I left still hungry. All this for $12 I hope they can get back into the groove soon and get back to how the food was. read more

Love Vida Cafe! We've been here just a couple times, years apart. The first trip being before the fire and the 2nd just recently. We came by this recent trip at 11 and were thrilled that they serve breakfast beyond the standard breakfast time! There was only one other couple in there at the time, which was good since it was just one lady serving and the place can only seat perhaps 25 people? Anyway, I had a half order of biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage links, my husband had the Spanish omelette with hashbrowns and a biscuit. Everything was great! The half order is a biscuit and a half, which is plenty! The omelette was large and flavorful. The biscuits are really good, not the over-dry flaky nonsense you find elsewhere. After we cleared our plates, we also ordered a slice of their 3-berry pie a la mode to share. Loved it! Such great home cooked food and at a great price. The woman that served us was very nice. I've made two trips to the Vida Cafe in the last month, mostly because I just moved there! There's nothing really special about this place. The food is perfectly passable, you're not going to be overwhelmed in a gustatory swoon but you're leave the place full, for sure. The place has a lot of old photos of "oldtime Vida" on the walls, which are interesting to look at if you're into local history (I am!). Seating is limited to about 12 tables. It's clean on the front of the house and I would asume in the back as well. To access the rest room you have to go outside and hope that no one beat you to it. They have the usual breakfast fare with a few little twists and turns on the standard list of offerings. I've eaten an omlette there and the usual two-over-easy-with-sausage. Good? Yes. Excellent? Meh! (How do make an "excellent" omelette except with some really unusual fillings?) Both times I visited we had the same waitress. She was efficient and fast but, I think, overworked. And her mood--both times--was, well, let's just say taciturn. She was in no mood for small talk and getting a smile out of her was a lost cause. Basically, a downer! Okay so maybe I caught her on two off days. I'll leave it at that. read more

We stopped here on our way to Bend and decided to give this place a try. I wasn't feeling all that well so I didn't order anything too fancy other than eggs, toast, and fruit plate. I was really pleased with the serving of fruit and the way everything was. My other half ordered an omlet and he loved it. It was packed in there with people coming and going. We will probably stop again if in the area. We were out-of-state-ers and seemed welcomed. Feisty waitress, but totally makes it fun. You can buy "artwork' from the walls, if you like trout on your walls. The food was good and at descent prices. Like their hash browns and bacon. Big omelets too. Coffee is average but priced well. The restroom is very small and access from the outside door. Smallville. I was in the area working a wildfire for a couple weeks and stopped here on a recommendation. It's country cozy with friendly service and their three-berry pie ala mode is AMAZING -simply the BEST pie I ever tasted, bar none. Vida Cafe delivers diner food, and they do it well. Everything was fresh and hot and exceeded expectations. The blackberry cobbler ala mode practically melted in my mouth. The food is classic "Heart Attack Grill" Very tasty and kind of a throwback cafe. Just don't let your Cardiologist know you eat here!! Great for Breakfast prior to going on the River. The olallieberry pie I had was very jammy and didn't have enough crust, but it wasn't overly sweet. We were so impressed we have stopped three more times and now plan our trips to include a stop. Excellent food and five star service from Kelli, the friendly hostess and server. Ok, when you go camping and wake up hungry...this is the place to go to get your motivation on...There are only like 8 tables and there is always a a line out the door. Do you want to know why? The food flippin' rocks! I love a hometown cafe where gossip flows like coffee, and this is one of those places. The incredible hulk (bill bixby, old school) used to eat there as a child and they even named a burger after him...oh...ah.... Great food, good service and fantastic pancakes. After a brisk morning hike further up the McKenzie, and subsequently being all but chased out the door before we'd had a chance to sit down at McKenzie Station Cafe by the shockingly rude and hostile woman working there because we had the temerity to expect lunch to be available at 12:30, we were hungry but a bit apprehensive about walking into another restaurant further down the river. Thank goodness we tried it anyway. The server at Vida Cafe was unfailingly friendly and efficient, never raising an eyebrow over my very customized burger order, which turned out to be delicious--seriously, the best burger I've had in a couple years. My husband's sandwich--the Italian something or other--was also amazing. Do yourself a favor if you're looking for lunch along this stretch of road--drive right past McKenzie Station Cafe and head to Vida Cafe instead, as it's absolutely worth the 20 minute drive. read more

The other Yelpers are definitely correct in saying this is a hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. I was with friends nearby camping in the Willamette National Forest, and we went looking for gas and some lighter fluid. Luckily there was a gas station right across from Vida Cafe, so we stopped and got what we needed and then ran across the road for some food that wasn't cooked over a fire. The waitress was very friendly and patient as we stared at the menu while drooling (we were all pretty hungry). One of my friends got their monster burger (which was HUGE), while I got the chili burger, and my friend got a scramble with hashbrowns covered in gravy. All of our food was incredible, especially that gravy! They seriously need to start selling that gravy at stores worldwide- they'd make a fortune! It was a spicy sausage gravy that was out of this world. It was so good that we had to stop here on our way out of the forest and back home, just so we could get more gravy! I now constantly think about how delicious that gravy is and wish I lived closer. If you are camping or are in the area for some other reason, don't even stop and think about it- STOP AT THIS CAFE NOW. You definitely won't regret it. They are reasonably priced for a large amount of awesome food. I only regret that I didn't get to try their croissant french toast (what?? there is such thing??) and now dream about that and their gravy. Damn. Now I'm sad again. read more

After reading the other reviews I took a sunny day and had a beautiful drive up the McKenzie too enjoy a burger at Vida Cafe. I guess it was a bad day. It wasn't anything like the other reviews lead me to believe. Food: Good, nothing special. Good quality, pre pressed meat patties, served open face with fresh tomato, onion, lettuce & pickle. The fries were very good. Service: Loud, as if you were deaf and needed to be yelled at so you might hear. Other than that I was pretty much was ignored. I had to get up and ask at the counter for a box when I was done. A good clue I'm ready to pay you and leave. Then after boxing up and being ignored for 15 minutes, I had to again walk up to the counter to get some service to pay my check. I now know why I don't go to Vida Cafe when I take a drive up the river. I go to Ike's. Better food, better service and they have several beers on tap. So why drive 6 miles farther up the road. No reason that I could see today. read more

SOOOO GOOD!! Really cozy atmosphere with ~8 tables, home made food and just a hop, skip and a jump away from the river. The biscuits and gravy was awesome and the burgers were too!
