Kids chicken nuggets and French fries.

We found Victor's while walking around Ensenada. The service was great and the servers were friendly and attentive. We all enjoyed our food. The chocolate chip pancakes were beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. The kids chicken nugget portion was huge and my grandson loved it. The food was pretty much what you would expect in a Mexican restaurant in California. My flautas were served with rice and beans and tasted good. The mole sauce in the enmoladas (enchiladas made with mole) was delicious. The tamarind margarita was top notch. This is a great place to visit if you're looking for a quick meal. They have several breakfast items and steak as well.

Wait staff is friendly. About 14 tables. Natural lighting and doors were opened for fresh air and the food was awesome!

My husband and I were on a cruise that stopped in Ensenada. We've walked past this restaurant so many times, and we finally decided to try it. I ordered the Chilaquiles with red sauce, and my husband ordered Huevos Rancheros. The server brought us some salsa and pancake syrup after we placed our order. I was wondering why he brought pancake syrup, since we didn't order any pancakes. Well, the restaurant provided two complimentary pancakes to each of us. The pancakes were really good. Unfortunately, I didn't care for my Chilaquiles at all. There was something in the sauce that I just didn't like. I would definitely not go back to this restaurant since there are so many other choices in Ensenada.

    Chilaquiles verde y huevos.

I really wished I spoke Spanish, because we could hardly understand our server. I might have said "yes" to the pancakes even though I didn't want them. I ordered the chilaquiles w/ verde sauce. I didn't want chicken, but eggs instead. Both eggs were cooked perfectly - oozing w/ rich yellowy goodness.. subtly blanketing the fried tortilla chips and the verde sauce tastefully. Yeah, she brought out pancakes that I did not touch, but they did look nice and fluffy). She also brought out freshly made tortillas that I used to dip in my verde sauce and the salsa cups that were on the table. Only thing though.. as she was clearing our plates, she put the salsa cups back onto the serving tray. So that made me wonder, "Did I just dipped my tortilla in someone else's germs?" We were there this past Sunday 6/19 and it's 4 days later so I doubt I will die as a result of sharing salsa, but still.. I will ask for a fresh one if I return. They accept cards which was a plus, but 2 meals cost us only $15. The place gets really busy so come early or be prepared to wait.

I was promised the best tacos I've ever had, by the horse drawn chariot guy who brought us here. Best tacos I've ever had! Let me not hold you in suspense, because they weren't. They weren't even close. I should mention to the uninitiated, that I'm from California, and well acquainted with good tacos. But let's not talk about me just yet. Let's talk about the others in the group. My youngest got the chocolate chip pancakes, and tore them up! Mind you, my youngest is uber picky! I don't know where he got it from, because his siblings are the exact opposite. Moving up, my daughter got the chilequiles, a family favorite. Her brothers favorite actually. They were too tangy for her taste, but I liked them. My son got the chile relleno, which coincidentally, is my wifes thing. He almost ate them all, but didn't. Father-in-law got the sopes, but said the meat wasn't flavored that good. From my experience, he usually nitpicks like this. My daughter got green chile, beef enchiladas. She didn't like the tang of the green chile as much as I did. I love that stuff! Now it's my turn. Lest you forget, I was promised the best tacos I've ever had. They weren't. For a person only acquainted with Taco Bell, they very well could have been. But I'm cultured and have been around the block. I was looking for street tacos (when in Mexico.....). I ate them, but I was disappointed. Victor's is a bit off the beaten path. In fact, had it not been for my chariot driver, we would have never made it that far. That could have been both a good and a bad thing, as far as I'm concerned.

Victor's https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/victors-ensenada?select=W2tkTcDP2n2n-z-knko1LQ has been around since 1942 and while it's in the tourist area the place gets packed with locals https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/victors-ensenada?select=Uh0jKkeWFtwAJuVEB_u7iA and it's a good size restaurant, Victor's https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/victors-ensenada?select=jy26LO13U2j0RX1QvBH0Lg is open for Breakfast & Lunch, while Breakfast seems to be their specialty https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/victors-ensenada?select=jZHziyfz3YljHzzjwMb63A they seem to be inconsistent on how they cook eggs as you'll see by photos below. Chilaquiles https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/victors-ensenada?select=OkkHvDH6_b51quoJDWQBtw nicely done, still a bit crisp, plenty of salsa unfortunately no heat but where's the Pollo/Chicken? Not a big deal but notice NO rice on the plate.... While the Chilaquiles https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/victors-ensenada?select=k8zhbzdjLRH-Z8a4-0Z1fw were very good, where's the Chorizo y Bacon? The bacon was chopped so small and was underneath the Chilaquiles, I didn't notice any Chorizo, so not getting the meat expected was a bit of a let down BUT flavor wise on the Chilaquiles was very good. Eggs/Huevos https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/victors-ensenada?select=vgbbIcEy-48XJalvQypHZg better than other plate, Frijoles/Beans https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/victors-ensenada?select=NwDccPIR266cMmJ2tDIiEQ were good. Overall the food was good tasting, off on a couple small details especially lacking the meat, maybe I expected more from a place that's been around 80+ Years! But still better than the majority of the Breakfast spots in town!

The long lines meant - it was so good and worth the wait. Honestly, it wasn't too long. My friend and I ordered 1 tostada each. She got the aguachiles and I the Guera. Great portions packed with flavor. I went back for oysters, which they shuck right in front of you. There were so many chile bottles to choose from. They also had some dark "crack" sauce that I chose to put on. I'm no sabo so I no sabo what the salsa was but it was delicious. Spicy, tangy, umami. Muyyyy ricooooo

Thus we made a point to stop by for food during our second cruise stop in Ensenada, 4 days later. We discovered the large crowds were not in line waiting, but were instead enjoying their ceviche and other cold seafood while standing up. It made for a festive atmosphere, definitely ramping up the enjoyment of really great tasting seafood. The food stall is located facing the main road of Ensenada (walking distance from the cruise port) and is separated into two parts: the front serving seafood tostadas and the back serving cocktails and aquachiles. Each had different lines, with a common guy accepting payment after delivery. They have been doing this for a while (1981?) and things are efficient. I wanted one thing, which was the mixed cocktail with all the seafood available (campechano, a word I've come to love since moving to the LA area). They have 4 sizes from chico ($105) to jumbo ($360). The seafood mix is diced together ahead of time to save on time, and are mostly diced pretty fine. The mix is prepared fresh though, and was ready in about a minute. It was excellent, refreshing and just the right amount for me. I had wanted to try the seafood cocktail again from La Guerrerense (another nearby famous seafood stand), so that was our first stop during our second visit to Ensenada in 5 days. We then visited other sites in the area, saving El Guero for the end before we headed back to the ship. As expected the cocktail from Guerrerense was very good, but this version from El Guero was even better....better selection of seafood, and more finely mixed to give a better representation of the different textures of the freshness. That would make it the best seafood cocktail I've ever enjoyed.

My fellowship, a cluster of mere mortals with taste far keener than foresight, insisted we seek a place foretold in gustatory prophecy: La Cocedora de Langosta. I assented, though the sea had begun to speak again. A cruel trick of salt and memory. We arrived. The lobster was not served--it presented itself. Shell split like prophecy fulfilled, meat steaming with tales older than Atlantis. The ceviche? Lime and fire in perfect alchemy. It hissed in my mouth like the last words of a betrayed siren. A whole fish, fried until its soul ascended, left bones so clean they could be used in ritual. Angels wept; I salted accordingly. The risotto arrived next, not on a plate but in a chalice. Each bite stirred marrow and memory, comfort and command. My sea legs stood straighter. My resolve thickened. Libations flowed--freely, fervently, faultlessly. The chalice refilled itself (or perhaps the staff were trained in illusion and replenishment). Laughter, clinking glass, and something close to joy dared to rise. Staff were keen-eyed adepts, operating with the grace of trained familiars. The atmosphere carried hints of volcanic enchantment and citrus optimism. Barry the Brave Muffin Baker--my misguided nemesis-ally--might have found peace here. Or at least, a decent aioli. Verdict: A rare convergence of flesh, flavor, and fate. Five stars scorched upon the firmament by my hand. I may never return. But that's only because the enchantment forbade it.

But figured I needed a better way to eat it while visiting Ensenada again with my wife. So this time, went to the nearby sister restaurant, Sabina. It's named for the owner of the original food stand, and there are a lot of pictures of her with other celebrities who appreciated her talent in creating seafood combinations. The Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant is within walking distance from the cruise port, and is located in an area with a lot of other restaurants and shops. We came there soon after it opened around 10 am, and had the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. We showed that we were coming from California, by choosing indoor seating. We were given colorful menus and suggestions. We also got complementary chips and salsa, with 4 different varieties of her famous salsas being served. I tried all four of them, and two of them were way too hot, even in moderation. I did really like the green salsa, which tasted more like a simple guacamole. It also came with thinly slices of lime...each small slice producing so much more juice than any lime we get in California. My wife doesn't like raw seafood, so chose garlic shrimp (Caramones al Mojo de Ajo for Mex$405). There were plenty of jumbo headless, shell-on white shrimp, with the butter sauce being very light and not too garlicky. It came with a very good rice pilaf and sauteed vegetables (mostly squash which neither of us are a fan of). I went with 3 choices from the 5 selection 'Champion' list: 1. Erizo con Almeja (Sea Urchin with Clam for Mex$230) - winner of LA Street Food Fest 2011 for Best Original Showmanship 2. Caracol con Lajas de Caracol (Mixed Ceviche with Sea Snail for Mex$209) - winner of LA Street Food Fest 2012 for Best in Show 3. Singapur (Mex$209) - winner of LA Street Food Fest 2013 for unknown category). All three were piled high with fresh seafood, embellished with perfectly ripe avocado slices. None of them needed additional salsa, but adding a squeeze of lime enhanced. My favorite was the Singapore and would try the other two tostadas on the winners list the next time. The best way would be to order all the tostadas and split amongst a group of 4 or 5 friends (there are 6 other special tostadas and you can also create your own with the fresh seafood ingredients). Got two bottles of water (Mex$75 each...not cheap) and a local beer (Vera Niega Mexican Ale, a bottle being Mex$110) that was excellent. Service was attentive and friendly throughout, with multiple servers (Horacio and Antonio) attending to us, all trying to make sure we had a good time. Credit cards are accepted, using a modern tableside POS, and I was happy to pay a gratuity over what is customary. Bathrooms are modern, with individual stalls (most of them gender neutral) all sharing a nice common set of sinks. My wife and I left in fine spirits and it was beginning to fill up more as we left (all dining al fresco, of course). Dining at the nearby original food cart is worth the initial experience, but there is something to having food this good in a sit-down restaurant. Sabina is that place.

I thought it was strange that it would take 15-20 min for food, especially since most of it was ceviche (is it not already prepared?) Pricing is definitely tourist pricing. We spent $185 for 6 people, about 8 tostadas (which were way bigger than we expected), 3 fish tacos, and 3 drinks. The seafood is definitely fresh and some of the flavors are unique. We ordered about 6 different tostadas and we all ended up liking the fish taco the best. Good for sit down but definitely plan to wait, not ideal for big parties.
