The price point is fantastic - and the portion sizes were perfect. The meatball appetizer was SO flavorful and I probably could have eat four of them. Visiting from Boston and ordered takeout on Christmas Eve based on a recommendation. Unfortunately, the food did not meet even basic expectations. The chicken was dry, the tomato sauce was bitter and burnt, the pasta undercooked, and there was an overall lack of flavor. Portions were also much smaller than expected. This was intended to be our holiday dinner and was a significant letdown. The family friend who recommended the restaurant was visibly embarrassed by how the food arrived. Really great dinner here! The waiter called out at the beginning that they work with all fresh ingredients, and we tasted that in every dish. The cocktails were spot on and made well. We had the whipped ricotta and fried calamari apps - both great, both super fresh. For entrees we each had pasta - the ravioli and the rigatoni with short rib. We loved both dishes, and even saved some of that whipped ricotta to have with our meals. All in all, solid Italian food - we want to go back and try the pizzas. I wish the burrata came with bread or something because it just came with some bright and tangy cherry tomatoes and crisp arugula but otherwise good, just something I'm glad was complimentary. The Cacio e Pepe croquette was interesting. Very strong flavor of the pecorino which I couldn't decide if I liked or did not like but anything potato is always good so I decided it was good. One thing I didn't get was their family special to go but something I have my beady little eyes on for next time. You can get three half trays of salad, an entree, and pasta for 35 bucks which is such a fantastic deal. And knowing that the pasta is made in house I know that's plain robbery to be getting such a steal of a price for three trays of food. What's special about this spot is that the owners are from the beautiful Amalfi Coast in Italy which inspired much of the menu. So here you have a little taste of Amalfi in Long Island with their freshly made pasta and pizzas. Would absolutely be back! read more

I came here last night with my friends for dinner. It was my first time dining here, and was excited to try another restaurant owned by Chef Eric! We were seated promptly, despite it being a busy Thursday night in Farmingdale. Originally, we had planned to eat at 317 Main St, also Chef Eric's restaurant, just a few doors down the street. Luckily, we had the opportunity to dine here instead, and had the joy of trying the most delicious cocktails and pizza. David, our bartender, recommended two cocktails (Pesca and Seiano) that were phenomenal!!! I was so happy to see that the menu included multiple cocktails made with egg whites, because I love me a nice, heart healthy, frothy, foamy egg white drink! I ordered the Pesca, which I truly enjoyed. My friend ordered the Seiano, which I had more than a few sips of, since it was that good. The best way I can describe it is that it is my new favorite spicy stiff drink that smells and tastes like summer turning into fall. I will be back in 2 weeks or maybe sooner for more!!! For food, we tried two of the pizzas- the Margherita and the Salsiccia. My only regret is that we didn't take Chef Eric's recommendation to get the larger pie (Metro size) since the Salsiccia is probably the best pizza I have ever had in my life! I love all things spicy, and this did all that and more. Topped with fennel-sausage and cherry peppers, the Salsiccia is going to be a staple in my diet while I sip on Seianos all fall. As a major fan of 317 Main, located next door and owned and operated by the same chef, I was super excited to try Vico with 7 of my dining buddies. I was privy to watching the transformation of this space via Chef LeVine's Instagram page. The photos on there do not do it justice. Immense attention to detail was paid to everything from the color pallet, the wall decor, the utensils and dishes. When the website says they were inspired by Italy, they were telling the truth! This is not a large restaurant so seating is limited. Normally they do not have tables any bigger than 4 people. However, they accommodated us and placed us in a corner near the front as a comfortable table for 8. We were given fresh bottles of tap water to fill our glasses and the specials were read aloud to us. I recognized the server, Mike, from 317 Main. Such a genuine and happy person, excited about this being our first time there, and he even recognized some of us he'd served for brunch a few weeks back. While I am a sucker for a mom and pop sauce joint, there is just something about food that takes a creative leap. Chef LeVine does this 100% of the time. I looked for the most interesting thing on the menu, which included a variety of appetizers, pizzas, and fresh pasta entrees. I gravitated towards the agnolotti di funghi and when I heard that zucchini flowers were the app special, I ordered those as well. One of my tablemates ordered several appetizers as his meal and I decided I am doing that the next time. THE GROWS: There IS a rear entrance from the municipal lot, but I wasn't sure which door it was. There is also a beautiful outdoor garden space with tables to dine at. They should highlight this more because it looks like a garden oasis in an otherwise typical rear storefront. THE GLOWS: The entrée pasta I ordered came with shaved parmesan already on top which I found to be a great touch--who wants to wait for the servers to come back with cheese for the one person who ordered pasta. The agnolotti were stuffed with a fresh cheese and mushroom medley. I detected a wine or liquor in the sauce, which came with just the right amount of fava beans and pancetta. It was either madeira or even brandy. Marsala maybe? If it was, it was high quality because it was a gentle and not overpowering flavor, allowing the pancetta, fava beans and mushrooms to have their moment in the spotlight. Not too dry, not too sweet. Regardless, had I been given a piece of bread, I would have mopped it all up. The squash blossoms were served atop a balsamic glaze which was a unique touch. There is so much to love about this place: the quality of the food, service, and the care and concern the Chef takes with each and every plate. I am excited to see how the menu evolves and this concept takes flight. When I return, I will be ordering several appetizers and a pizza, as my friend did. The food, drinks and service at Vico are all top notch! It was literally the best dining experience my friends and I had in a very long time. We shared the appetizer sampler, whipped ricotta dip, pistachio pesto in a pizza bowl with burrata on top, the La Rucola pizza and of course the Nutella pistachio pizza for dessert. Everything was fresh and so incredibly tasty. Our waitress was attentive and gave great recommendations and the bartender was spot on with his drinks and even made a pistachio martini upon request. I've been wanting to come here for a while. I'm the person who constantly talks about visiting Positano, knowing full well I'm not getting there any time soon. So, when a restaurant advertises that it has an "Amalfi Coast" vibe, I'm all in! I wanted to take my two friends out for their 60th birthdays. I figured this would be a perfect opportunity to visit Vico, as we wanted something with outdoor dining and a fresh, European feel. I made reservations for an outdoor table, even though I hadn't been able to find photos of their outdoor dining area. It was a Wednesday evening, and for some odd reason, when we arrived the front entrance was closed due to the windows being replaced. We thought a car had accidentally driven through it, but thankfully that was not the case. Since the contractors advised us to enter through the back way, our first point of entry was through Vico's dining courtyard. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it was! It's surrounded by a wooden privacy fence, pretty landscaping with a variety of trees and flowering plants, and twinkle lights and Edison bulbs around the perimeter. The tables each had an umbrella and the atmosphere felt relaxed and perfect for a summer evening al fresco dining experience. Our waiter, Steven, was knowledgeable, attentive, friendly, and just adorable. Any dining experience goes up a few notches depending on waitstaff like him! Five stars for service right there. The first thing we ordered was our drinks: Casamigos Blanco Tequila, seltzer, fresh lime juice and fresh limes. This is not on the menu. It's just a no-sugar drink I make for myself that doesn't make me feel horrible the next day. Not every bartender can pull this seemingly simple libation off, but whoever was behind the bar at Vico that night made it spot-on. Next, we ordered three appetizers: Potato Croquettes, Carbonara Suppli, and Burrata. All delicious, and highly recommended. The croquettes had a light, crisp breading on the outside and the inside was a fluffy cloud of seasoned potato deliciousness. The Carbonara Suppli, a sort of baked spaghetti croquet all on its own, had the perfect blend of cheese and guanciale with a nice chew to it. Both the Croquets and the Suppli were accompanied by a delicious garlic aioli that complemented them wonderfully. The winner, though, seemed to be the burrata, served over a bed of fresh baby arugula with a simple olive oil dressing and a fig drizzle that was light and fresh. For the main course, two of us ordered the Branzino, which--if you like fish--is a must-try. It was outstanding. Like, really outstanding. The delicate lemon-butter sauce put this dish over the top. I'm not sure I will ever order anything else there, that's how good it was. Our other friend ordered the ravioli and said it was delicious. She ate most of it, and that's all I can tell you about it. I was too busy moaning with delight over every bite of my Branzino. Once we finished our meals, Steven brought out a birthday Tiramisu that he previously explained to me was authentically made with espresso, mascarpone instead of cream, etc. I'm not a huge Tiramisu fan, but I knew none of us would eat a chocolate pizza (even though it looked delicious). Well, the Tiramisu did not disappoint. It was sweet and flavorful, light and airy and probably the only Tiramisu I've ever enjoyed. The cappuccinos were perfectly made with an abundance of foam on top. The bill came out to $180, which I thought was extremely reasonable for all the delicious items we ordered. Vico is perfect for a date night, a night out with friends, or heck, I would even come here alone and eat if I was feeling melancholy for Positano. Try it, you'll like it! read more

Just as I was thinking I wish I had more bread, our server Stephen came over to ask if we would like some more to soak up the rest of the ricotta! The potato croquettes were everything I hoped they'd be. Served in a maple aioli- so yummy. We ordered the Margherita pizza and the Ricotta e Miele (Ricotta and honey) and they were perfect. However, these mussels were much softer than I've tasted in many years. For dinner I had Skirt Steak over a bed of radicchio and escarole. Simply delicious. During dinner the Chef and Owner Eric came out to greet and meet me. A fine touch which barely exists today, unfortunately by Restaurateurs and/or Chefs. We got the Almafi pasta and chicken Milanese. Food was not flavored, just very basic and bland. Even the tomatoes didn't have a taste. However, not bad tasting, hence the average review (would have been a 2 if not for the tiramisu, decent cocktail, and mini biscotti that arrived after paying our bill). Restaurant was not as cute or charming as the pictures had me thinking and it was not fancy in person. It had a dive bar feel. Definitely not an Almafi vibe which is why I believe I was disappointed. I did not see one Italian in the kitchen. Based on a Vico instagram video, seemed to be Hispanic cooks which may explain why it didn't seem Italian or authentic.
