    $1 oysters (5-7pm everyday - as of May '25)
    Alana K.

A restaurant where you can still order $1 oysters! In the year of our Lord 2025, it's increasingly difficult to come by such a good deal. My two friends and I ordered 56 oysters. There's no limit- as of now, at least- on the amount of oysters one person can order. They come with sriracha, lemon wedges, and mignonette. While not the biggest or most flavorful oysters I've ever eaten, for $1, it's the quantity and subsequent feeling of opulence that counts. We also ordered the grilled asparagus, which was served with a lemon aioli, stracciatella cheese, and crispy bits of soppressata. Delicious! We had the option to sit indoors or outdoors on the patio, and we opted for outside. Since the restaurant is right on Mass Ave, it's ideal for people-watching in Central Sq. Service was also great; the hosts and our waiters were very nice and attentive.

Brussel salad (& they even split it for us-I love that!)

We ordered a smattering of veggie entrees: Brussel Salad, Heirloom tomato and watermelon salad, and grilled Asparagus- all were fantastic and beautifully presented. We also had the oysters, which were great! Our waiter was very attentive and had perfect suggestions. We were able to enjoy all of this outdoors on a gorgeous day. I did walk inside to use the restroom-restroom was dark and somewhat steamy-but the restaurant itself was very nice.

Great service and pet friendly as long as your pet is well behaved. The shrimp and grits was yummy! Buttery and chili was spot on. The smoked pork hash needed more Brussels and something pickled to cut through the richness. Nice spot for Sunday brunch!

Would not recommend this place unless you're getting the $1 oysters (5-7 daily). Everything we got was expensive and did not live up to its price. The oysters were very fresh and bouncy. Brussels sprouts salad was very very ok. Kinda literally just shaved brussels sprouts with some stuff on top that didn't contribute much. Saffron arancinis with tomato sauce were very ok as well. Really nothing special. Salmon crudo was extremely disappointing. There were maybe 5 slivers of salmon, like 1.5 nigiris' worth. Nothing especially aromatic about the crudo's additions. The pistachio pesto pizza may have been the best non-oyster dish but even it wasn't up to expectations. The cheese was almost Cheez-It-esque like some pizza slice shops. You can get unlimited breadsticks too which helped me fill up on an otherwise mehhh meal. Service was very friendly. I hear the pumpkin orecchiette is pretty good which I might try if I'm ever back.

Brunch menu here had a lot of good options! I ordered a special, which was a crab bucatini pasta. It felt a bit overpriced but the pasta dish did have a good amount of crab meat mixed into the sauce. The flavor wasn't as bold as I would have liked but overall I was happy with my dish.

I really enjoyed my time at Viale! I stopped by for oyster happy hour, which they have daily, to try one of the most highly recommend oysters in Boston / Cambridge. They did not disappoint! They came with a tasty vinegar that perfectly complemented them. I also tried a grilled oyster, which had a spicy tomato butter, as well as the saffron arancini, which was in the most delicious spicy tomato sauce. Service was quick and the bartender was so sweet and friendly! This is definitely a spot I want to come back to try more of the menu highlights and enjoy the beautiful space with a group.

Despite making reservations, we ended up showing up earlier for the dollar oysters, and staff was so accommodating. Everyone was super friendly. We were seated indoors, but they also have outdoor seating. I would say some dishes were better than others. The highlights were the crab risotto and the saffron Lumache. We ended up ordering two of the Saffron Lumache because it was such a hit. We also enjoyed the pizzas. The duck croquettes and arancini were good, but I wish there were more of the sauce to complement the croquettes and arancini to balance out the cheesiness. The $1 oysters will definitely entice us back to Viale.

Great food, and some of the best Arancini in the region. Excellent oysters and they do a $1 oyster deal daily from 5-7 PM. I am becoming a regular at this spot as a result.

We came here for a work dinner on a Tuesday night around 6 pm. By the time 7 pm rolled around it was packed so highly recommend making a reservation in advance. Service was fine, nothing to write home about, as were the breadsticks with olive oil (mine was pretty stale). I ordered the striped bass and the fried baby artichokes. The artichokes were good, but had a very sweet aftertaste, almost like honey(?) which was a bit off putting given there was no honey listed under the description. My bass was fine, I did like the crispy skin but other than that it was pretty bland. The marinated cucumbers didn't taste like anything and I mostly relied on the corn to give it any sort of flavor. I also tried a bite of my friends' pastas (lumache and rigatoni) neither of which were finished. My friend said he liked the seafood in the lumache, but the pasta was weirdly rubbery. Overall, nice ambience but would probably recommend going elsewhere for dinner.

Brunch menu looks soooo good! Loved the crispy cornbread waffle with shaved Brussel sprouts on top! Lots of seating inside and outside. Would go back again to try more menu items or for dinner.

We came for their dollar oyster happy hour and was surprised with how nice the ambiance was. Even at 5pm, it was bustling and it looked like a nice spot for a special date or girls night. Oysters were fresh and drinks were great too. If we had more time, we would've stayed for dinner. The food at all the tables look good that I want to Lao come back and try. Even though it was busy, the server always stopped by to check in on us.

Viale holds a special place in my heart, and I can't recommend it enough! Having been a fan of the previous restaurant, Rendezvous, I was excited to see the new owners' vision for the new space. I first fell in love with the place while DJing a wedding there, and the experience was unforgettable. During that event, I was asked no fewer than five times--by the bartender, host, kitchen staff, even the bussers--if I needed anything. This level of attentiveness is simply not typical, and it made me an instant fan of what Shauna and Greg have built. My food favorites: saffron arancini, meatballs, Brussels sprouts salad, all of the pastas, and all of the desserts. The drink menu is unique in that I usually have a particular vibe for the night: beer, wine, or cocktails, but I can always find something tempting from each category. Since then, I've returned for date nights, family gatherings, and even quick stops just for a drink, and each time, Viale's team has catered their service and hospitality to fit the occasion perfectly. Whether it's a romantic dinner or a casual stop-in, they know exactly how to make you feel right at home. Their warm, genuine care for each guest is rare and so appreciated. Viale is not just a restaurant, it's a welcoming family--and one I will keep coming back to!

Decent food but nothing to write home about. Limited menu. Good service but more casual than the reviews led me to believe.

Little Donkey is definitely more of a "let's order a few things, chat for a while, and try bites…read morehere and there" kind of spot than a place you go to when you're starving. I've been extra hungry lately, so fair warning: if you have a big appetite and care a lot about portion-to-price value, this may not fully hit the spot. First things first: no bread. Not a complaint, just important information as I discover which spots in Boston are part of the bread movement. We started with the salmon crudo. I somehow thought it came with the burnt crispy rice, but that was my mistake - it's actually four small slices of salmon. That said, it was really flavorful and tasty. Next was the arancini: three pieces plus a pepper to share. Super good if you're into cheese. Crispy outside, cheesy inside, cooked well, no complaints there. Then the burger, which came split into two. Honestly, yummy burger. Simple. Solid. Probably the most filling thing we ordered, especially alongside the beer, which I was genuinely grateful for because it helped balance out the tiny portions situation. Dessert was the cookie dough. Exactly what you'd expect: cookie dough served on a mixer ladle with cream on the side. I didn't care much for the cream, but the cookie dough itself was good in a very straightforward way. If you like cookie dough, you'll like it. Overall, I'd say it's a good spot if you want to taste and try different things in a fun atmosphere. But if you're someone with a serious appetite who's looking for generous portions and strong value for size, there are probably other spots I'd pick first. Food came out fast and with the serving sizes and the speed of eating, was done with the meal in less than an hour - should've chewed slower lol

Everything we ordered was amazing!! The Tempura String Beans were our favorite (perfectly crispy and addictive), the Hamachi Crudo was super fresh and balanced, and the Pork Spicy Knife Cut Noodles were spicy but honestly some of the best noodles I've ever had. The Miso Black Cod was rich and buttery, and the Chicken Karaage was incredibly tender with a great crunch. Service was great, dishes came out maybe a little slow, but we enjoyed taking our time. We also loved seeing the chef/owner Tracy Chang so hands-on, checking in on guests and delivering dishes, which made the experience feel extra special. For drinks, we ordered the spritz from the drink menu and also asked if they could make a lychee martini. The lychee martinis weren't bad and were pink to match the spritz which was fun, but I do wish the martini included an actual lychee. We ordered the pork bao buns for the table which usually come in two, but our waitress kindly offered for three bao buns to come out since our group had three people. These bao buns were fantastic and I would definitely recommend, the pork was so tender and flavorful. I ordered the 2011 guchi ramen and unfortunately, I was disappointed. I've had many bowls of ramen in my lifetime and maybe my opinion is based on personal preference, but the ramen was not great. The broth was pretty bland and the pork was mostly fat and the meat itself was quite dry and tough. I'm not sure if this is what they were going for, but I wouldn't recommend the ramen and I wouldn't get it again. However, I wouldn't be opposed to coming back and trying something else as my friends enjoyed their meal!

Fatteh: The presentation was beautiful, with a delightful array of layers. Between two layers of crispy chips laid the chewy texture of fried mushrooms, the sweetness of cauliflower, the nutty aroma of pine nuts, and the refreshing sweet and sour taste of yogurt--a random combination that offered a different experience with every bite. The cauliflower, in particular, was crisp yet not tough, with a naturally gentle sweetness--a first for me. However, towards the end, the crispy chips became very slightly oily. Sultan's Delight: Perfect as a main course. The beef was stewed to perfection, incredibly tender and flavorful, almost falling apart the moment it touched the knife. It required absolutely no effort, reminiscent of a master butcher skillfully carving up an ox in Zhuangzi莊子, who kept his knife like new over nineteen years. The tamarind brought a slightly fermented, tangy aroma, while the smoked eggplant puree, likely babaganoush, was smooth and creamy with a mild, pleasant smokiness. The lemon juice, however, adds a refreshing touch, creating an interesting layering of acidity. It looked small, but it was surprisingly satisfying. The only downsides were the beef was slightly over-salty and the basil leaves, which seem to serve only a decorative purpose. Baked Alaska: A signature dessert, very popular on social media. Frankly, I came specifically for this, but after eating it, all I can say is, "Who's promoting this?"... The presentation was truly stunning, and the first few bites were quite good. The meringue was was torched to create a thin, burnt crust, resulting in a delicate and light texture, while the coconut ice cream blended with the bitter aroma of coffee. However, the base, a nut tart similar to a five-nut mooncake五仁月餅 filling, was too dense and heavy; the passion fruit syrup was excessively sweet and acidic, even a small amount was cloying, making it a torture by the end. The restaurant tables were a bit uneven and hopefully they will be repaired soon.

We split the mushroom pizza, the warm olives, the octopus, and the burrata. I tend not to express myself using superlatives, but everything was just plain outstanding. Flavorful, spicy olives, melt in your mouth burrata with prosciutto and apple relish, well balanced spicy octopus (chili aioli and Aleppo pepper) with bacon, grapes and either crispy prosciutto or bacon. The pizza was rich but not overly cheesy, and the mushroom mix and sauteed spinach was balanced with chewy crust and a rich olive oil base. We were planning on eating more, but decided to quit while we were ahead and have the chocolate hazelnut cake for dessert. Somehow, the cake was delivered accidentally to the table next to ours, and not only was another piece brought out to us as soon as we let the server know, but they gave us a generous portion of the tiramisu to make up for the mistake. Both desserts were of comparable quality to the rest of the meal, and they disappeared quickly. For the quality and quantity of the food, the meal was an excellent value. It is a little noisy in the room, with music and hard surfaces, but despite that, we were able to talk without raising our voices, and the service was a gracious team effort. The deliciousness of the food offset the background noise - once the food came (extremely quickly), we were so absorbed in eating and savoring it that it faded and was not annoying. Based on this experience, I would consider coming here on my next visit. Keep up the good work.
