It's been a while since both my girlfriend and I had a night out. Figures, her husband would at least let her out for a Galentine's date! Anxiously, we looked forward to our reservation all week at Viaggio's. Shout out to Sebastian for making our night extremely special! His charismatic charm gleamed through the low dimmed restaurant, as he was very attentive to our table. Sabastian was very conversant on the menu and even made suggestions, which was great! Pappardelle with duck ragu, haven't had this since my old kitchen days! Truly a delight, nothing overbearing. This was my friend's first-time trying duck, and she enjoyed it! Of course, there was more at the table, but I must say this was my favorite! And for the sweet part- Banana bread for dessert! YES! I am not much of a "sweets" girl, but this was just perfect. If I wasn't already drinking wine, I would have asked for another, Hehe. YES THAT DELICIOUS The rest of the staff was very attentive as well and made sure our night was nothing but the best! For me dining here was highly anticipated after following their Instagram account and drooling over their posts for quite some time now. My boyfriend and I dined here with another couple a week ago and I wanted so badly to love this restaurant, but wound up walking away just liking it. It's quite possible that had we ordered other things on the menu that I may have felt differently. Something that I did not realize beforehand is that the menu is indeed intended to be eaten as Antipasti, Primi & Secondi - meaning that the pastas are not intended to be eaten as an entree (based on the order the food is brought out and simply the size of the dishes) and it is encouraged that you order from the Secondi section, which are larger plates for your dinner. Our server was knowledgeable, walked us through the menu and explained everything, while offering suggestions as to how the menu worked, how much food to order for the table etc. While dining here we sampled the Chef's selection of salumi - they cure their meats in house which was something we felt we should try, but personally I could pass on this the next time around. We also ordered the calamari, which was tender and the pickled shallot brought a nice level of acidity to counterbalance the dish. Tricolor insalata was also enjoyable, the highlight there being the candied hazelnuts. For the pastas we tried the ricotta cavetelli, garganelli on special & barchette. I did not care for the gargenelli - I was not a fan of the red onion with my pasta, but maybe that's just me. The cavetelli was good, but what knocked my socks off was the barchette. This was my favorite part of the entire meal - the sauce was so good I could have licked the plate. For my entree I ordered the polenta crusted cod - the fish was cooked perfectly, the sunchoke polenta was delicious but the polenta crust fell flat for me. I found it to be a bit too hard and lacking in flavor. For desserts we ordered the panna cotta & one of the specials, which I cannot remember the name of, but essentially was peanut butter ice cream in a chocolate shell served over peanuts. The peanuts and caramel at the bottom of the plate were the best part with salty and sweet playing together. Some things I feel that we may have missed out on were not having ordered the charred octopus, the tagliatelle & truffle prosciutto crostini. I would be open to trying this place again and would do things differently the next time, but with portion sizes being small and prices being high it may be a while before we are back. read more

We had dinner ( only 5:30 was available) tonight at this place in a non descript mall on Hamburg turnpike in Wayne...Wow it was exceptional. The space was comfortable as we entered and it was early on a sat night so not full ( it was when we ate and when we left.) perfect sized menu and a few specials....BYOB which was great but honestly i want the restuarant to have a wine list to ensure its financial survival..NJ laws restricting wine and beer are just stupid/archaic. Our table of 4 shared a great charcuterie board which had a ton of variety and was very generous( some salami made in house). We also had delicious fried Cauliflower ( portion was huge..almost too much), octopus..perfectly done in a fresh tomato base...very very good and a pasta Amatriciana special that was also exceptional...we probably should have stopped there but 3 of us had the Pork Chop Milinase and one had the Boar Osso Buco...food was wonderful....and a big surprise..Service..not just exceptional for a small place in Wayne...exceptional training of all the servers..just the right level of intervention and interactivity with the table..non intrusive where that made sense...servers who work here should be in high demnmand elsewhere as the really know what they are doing these folks should have a bigger place and a liquor license and i wish they were closer to my home we drove 45 minutes and i wouldnt hesitate to do that again...thank you read more

Chef Robbie Felice's, Viaggio. We love this rustic Italian, farm-to-table eatery and had to stop in for a quick bite. Shhhhhh.... this was going to be our second meal after having had a late lunch a couple hours earlier. Their ravioli "FRANCOBOLLI di ZUCCA" deliciousness was still in our minds from the last time. Figured we'd take away whatever we couldn't eat for later. BTW, reservations are a MUST! We called to see if anything was available. Luckily she said... "Yes, one table free right now till 6:30pm." Perfect! We flew there. Didn't even have time to pick up a bottle of wine. Ended up having a Diet Coke. What no vino?!? lol. Upon arrival we were given the choice of the table till 6:30pm or sitting by the kitchen bar/counter with no rush to leave. Kitchen view seating was our choice. Seeing Chef Robbie and team in action preparing dishes was a very cool experience. His kitchen runs like a well oiled machine. Here's the what we had and the reason why we went: FRANCOBOLLI di ZUCCA - kabocha squash, brown butter, sage, amaretti - Bringing great taste and texture to another level. This to die for... rich and hearty ravioli style dish is super unique and on the sweeter side. Some may even say it could be on the dessert menu. The fried basil on top totally melts in your mouth. MEATBALL & POLENTA SPECIAL Delicious. Three tasty meatballs on top of polenta. We've enjoyed so many good dishes at Viaggio. Bronzino and Octopus are my favorites to date. REMEMBER.. Decided to try this place in a strip mall after reading good reviews, and it didn't disappoint! Our party of 2 ordered the clams appetizer and pasta with ramp from the specials menu, and the hanger steak from the regular menu. The 2 specials simply blew our socks off! The steak was good, but didn't impress us as much. After the meal, we tried the chocolate olive oil cake. Magnifico! Great dining experience, definitely adding to our favorites list for return visits. Service was attentive and friendly. In no way shape or form was any of the food bad at all, but for the price and the reputation of how good everything is suppose to be there, the pastas were just a little boring. Viaggio is a very competitively priced casual trattoria located in a strip mall, a couple of storefronts over from a smoke shop. The inside was trendy. Atmosphere was vibrant and bustling with music a few decibels too loud. Food was fine. Complimentary bread was good and crusty but accompanied by a tasteless olive oil. App of prosciutto on bread with honey and ricotta was ok, but incredibly priced at $23 for three small pieces. The four bites and done grilled octopus was tasty but a bit too salty. The beet salad was standard and clearly prepared hours in advance. Hanger steak was cooked perfectly but was an under seasoned small portion buried under a mound of broccolini. Pastas were fresh and generally flavorful. Affogato and the special rainbow gelato were standard. Our server was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable. However, the service was fast paced. They do advise you in advance that it's 1.5 hour churn...and they did their best to make that happen. Visited Viaggio and really liked it. The food is creative and tasty. The octopus and hanger steak were very good. The polenta and sauce with a little spice go very well with the octopus and the steak was perfectly cooked.The mushroom ravioli was good but a little too sweet for my taste. The space is nice with a little bit of a casual feel. The service was very good. During my second visit the muscles and bronzino were very good. The French fries need improvement. The potatoes seem to be baked and fried after which makes them feel extra fattening. The spinach fettuccini was ok so I'm not a big fan of the pasta dishes so far. read more

This restaurant seems to be overwhelmed with customers, especially on a Saturday night when the rush is expected. We arrived on time for our reservation, however, no hostess to be seen for about 10 mins. Shortly after a crowd formed in the entrance of folks waiting to be seated, while being ignored by a seemingly overwhelmed staff. Two waiters, one hostess and one floor manager for nearly over 20 tables. The food was okay, tried hard to be refined, they push for buying white truffle by the gram, minimum 3 grams at $20 per gram. The manager greeted and chatted with every single table around us, except ours. It felt very weird and almost cartoonish how he ignored us all night. Definitely great food. I'm still thinking about the calamari! It was delicious. And they put it in such a unique sauce that I was obsessed. Every dish we had was fantastic. The sauces for each pasta were super yummy. To be honest though, I think for the price of the dishes I'd prefer if it was homemade fresh pasta. I think fresh pasta would take these dishes over the edge. The octopus was also a very small portion, especially for the price; literally like two small thumb sizes. Viaggio never disappoints--one of our favorite places to visit in NJ. The food is always fabulous, and the staff is attentive, sweet, and helpful. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. BYOB. The staff treats you like family - warm and welcoming- as they are with each other - which is so nice to be in a warm, friendly place. The food is so fabulous- my favorite app is the cauliflower- I never had enjoyed cauliflower, but their spin on the food makes everything delicious. We Definitely come back anytime we can. I visited this place for the first time last Saturday with my brother and his fiancé and we had an exceptional experience. After looking through the menu online and the prices we went in with the intention of just getting entrees; however our waiter was excellent and easily convinced us to get multiple appetizers, a pasta and a few entrees. From our very first bite of the calamari we knew we would become enamored with every dish that came our way and we were correct. Additionally we got to try a burrata appetizer from a restaurant they are previewing called Bar Mutz which will be opening in a few months which I believe was our collective dish of the night. And to think we were almost asked to leave as we did not have a reservation! Lucky for us the manager saw us on our way out and got us into a nice table at the center. To be honest I do believe they may have thought us as some Michelin star inspectors the way we were treated but I left fairly certain that all guests were treated to such wonderful patronage. Who knows; maybe we are inspectors! Anyway, my brother lives nearly 5 hours away and I am certain he will be looking forward to his next visit to Viaggio. read more

Probably the best restaurant I've ever been to. Chef Robbie felice serves it up with his Italian menu! I've heard people saying they don't want to try this place because the plates are small- that's because it's designed so you choose an appetizer, pasta, and then entree and by the time you've eaten all 3 courses you are full!! I can attest to that!! The crudo I dream about NIGHTLY, and the pasta was perfection. For an entree I had the branzino which was immaculate. We were there for New Years Eve 2024 and have been there many times before. There were a few highs and many lows. The foam on the oysters was terrific as well as the glaze on the mozzarella sticks. We also loved the squash purée that came with the cod and the cheesecake. Service was excellent. For the lows.. the cavatini was very dry, the cod was fishy, the lamb was overcooked, and the rice balls were over salted. The exceptional food, service and atmosphere keep me coming back. This time we came for my birthday. We always end up ordering a lot of food here because it's always so hard to choose. This time was no exception. We ordered 3 apps - chef selection salumi (must). Calamari fritti (another must). Tricolor ensalata to change it up - the candied nuts really make this salad (we have had a deconstructed version of this salad once before). For mains we had discussed before arriving that we would order items that are typically on the menu but never get to order because everytime we come in there's an even MORE tantalizing special we must get instead. The Lancaster amish brick chicken for my husband (he has had 2 other variations of this dish) and I was finally going to try the bucatini all'amatriciana...but turns out this was replaced with a seasonal shrimp bucatini which made me go with my backup option of tagliatelle with octopus and charred corn. Even though the menu had changed yet again I was not disappointed with my choice! One day I will get to try the classic bucatini... For dessert I had planned beforehand to order the coconut panna cotta, but on arrival this had also changed flavors to orange granita panna cotta. Tasty and refreshing nonetheless. Would love it if the website was updated with the seasonal changes during menu transitions (I usually pre-select my choices), but I do go in knowing it might have changed. Side story - neither of us mentioned it was my birthday upon arrival, nor did the waiter ask if we were celebrating anything special. Sort of found it odd because the nearby table had been asked. At the end of our meal, our dessert came out with a candle in it! I was genuinely surprised...as was my husband! My husband had forgotten he had written "birthday" in the online reservation. We had a good laugh. The staff pays attention to all details! I had a dinner party for a wedding rehersal dinner at this friendly, sophisticted restaurant. The food was outstanding. As an Italian brought up on home cooked, mostly northern Italian meals, I can say with certainty Viaggios food is authentic, refined and delicious. I preordered 7 different appetizer for my pary of 10 and they were all excellent. The Cauliflower fritti and charred octopus were exquisite and cooked to perfectionn. All the pre ordered appetizers were prepared and served as soon as we were all seated. Main courses were individually ordered and we had a variety, from the succulent chicken to the squid ink and seafood pappadelle. While making plans with the manager pre the dinner night I was treated well. The restaurant accommodated my needs to accept flowers for the table and to prepare a table a bit out of the main area. Our server was professional, timely in his serving and friendly. We were able to have a very joyful, memorable and relaxing dinner due in part to the outstanding food and our server who timed things perfectly. Probably hands down the best food I've had in jersey. Everything here was top notch, even the bread that was served (disclaimer it was sourced from a bakery in NYC). Every dish we had was just amazing and having usually lived in places that have a lot more food option (NYC/SF), this really came as a shock to me to see a place with this quality in the middle of Jersey. My rating is 2.5. I have been wanting to try Viaggio's Ristorante for a while now and tonight I finally decided to order take out. What persuaded me was the special which happens to be one of my favorites, squash blossoms. The highlight of the dinner was the appetizers, squash blossoms and calamari. I have to say that I appreciate the freshness and modernization of both dishes. The calamari with the pickled onions added brightness. The zucchini blossoms were rustic and the salsa verde was reminiscent of a gremolata. As for dinner, I ordered the Branzino al Cartoccio and the Ricotta cavatelli. The pasta dish was extremely fresh and flavorful but not worth $21. My least favorite was the branzino. Although it was fresh, the mixture of the fregula, olives and raisins weren't very appealing nor appetizing. I was turned off by the small portion sizes and expensive pricing. If I was in Manhattan, I would completely understand. If I was fine dining at Daniel, then it is warranted. But it's only Wayne, NJ. I would like to return for the smash burger and chicken sandwich. But just be aware that after a Viaggio' meal, you will still be hungry and disappointed about the money you have spent!! read more

Have been going to Viaggios for some time now and find the food consistent in quality and flavor. Portion sizes are not overly abundant but that allows one to order an appetizer and entree without feeling stuffed when you leave. It's also a BYOB..a plus! 1st is we were served one slice of very hard bead, mine was more like toast. My husband and I shared the beets g or an appetizer, we each got 1.5 slices of beet. Next I had polenta-crusted cod...it was plain cornmeal with no seasoning on a piece of cod and my husband had linguini with really spicy clam sauce. Our friend asked for salt and was brought a tiny plate with some salt on it, I think salt and pepper should be on the table. We had dessert because we were still hungry. Small portions and high prices, $170.00, and it's a BYOB! Will not be back, I guess they get the best Italian restaurant in Wayne because there really are no good Italian restaurants in Wayne. read more
