Excellent meal and great bar. Braised beef ribs were delicious. The king salmon over forbidden rice was perfect.

During our trip to Ferndale the first night we were here we stopped in VI. The space was empty, though it was early for dinner and our service, though friendly wasn't attentive or quick as a result. I ended up ordering a burger which could best be described as "blah." We ate at No Brand a couple days later and their beef was much more tender and flavorful, VI's was just bland. My honey's steak was drowning in blue cheese, (so much so he barely ate it) but his greens were delicious, I mean really wonderful as were the potatoes. But my sweet potato fries were so over-salted I could barely eat them. Granted I don't remember this place well as a kid, but currently, for the price the food just isn't worth it.

A nice place to sit with a Manhattan while waiting for dinner

Three of us had dinner here after exploring Ferndale for a while: I had the ribeye steak (very good), my wife had fish & chips made with sole (weird to us from New England, where the sole is much smaller), linguini primavera for our vegetarian daughter, a shared baked brie that was very good, and a Martini and a Manhattan made with local Humboldt Craft Spirits gin and rye. The setting was beautiful and the service was great. I am always happy to see local spirits on the bar. All in all it was a fine way to finish the day's adventures.

I would make a reservation, phone or for us, in person. Seating may be limited due to staffing. We had a pleasant evening. Staff was pleasant and attentive. Food was good and prices were reasonable. We will stop again next time thru.

Amazing food. Had the beef short rib bourguignon. Great food. Will be back again!

Racist. My coworker and I (both from out of town on a business trip) were denied service. The host took one look at us and turned us away.

My friend booked a 7:30 reservation, and we arrived a little early around 7:20 and were seated…read moreimmediately. First off, this place has such an enchanting feel to it. From the outdoor lighting to the quaint indoor decor, it's one of those places that makes you appreciate the ambiance before you've even ordered anything. Our server was welcoming, friendly, and attentive throughout the evening. She checked in on us regularly without interrupting our conversations, which I always appreciate. We started with the carpaccio, grilled oysters, and charcuterie board. The carpaccio was simply delicious. The accompanying bread was lightly toasted, allowing the delicate texture of the tenderloin to come through rather than getting lost in the crunch. The drizzle of Caesar dressing and coarse salt was just enough to elevate the flavor of the meat without overpowering it. The oysters were fresh, and I appreciated that the BBQ sauce (at least I think that's what it was) came on the side so you could control how much you wanted. Now, that charcuterie board deserves some love. You could tell there was intention behind the selections and pairings. The pâté was whipped, giving it such a delicate texture. The goat cheese, while tart, paired beautifully with the accompanying condiment and pluot slices. And the manchego with the apple slices? Yes, please. I enjoyed the charcuterie so much that if they offered it as a meal, I would absolutely order it. Give me that board and let me mind my business. For our mains, the table ordered ribeye, both naked and dressed, and filet mignon. We all requested medium rare, and let me tell you, the kitchen knows their temp bc they delivered! My ribeye was seasoned well and cooked exactly how I wanted it. The accompanying salad was delicious and abundant, and I was fortunate enough to snag the last twice-baked potato. Definitely flavorful with a great mouthfeel. No complaints from me. We ended the evening sharing the lemon tart, and I'm glad we did because it was a pretty generous slice. The crust was THICC, and the lemon filling was a lovely way to cut through the heaviness of everything we had enjoyed throughout dinner. Between the food and our table conversations, we somehow ended up being the last guests in the dining room. And despite how long we lingered, the staff never made us feel rushed. They remained kind and professional while allowing us to enjoy the rest of our evening. I can see why Larrupin Cafe has earned its reputation as one of the area's most romantic dining spots. The ambiance, food, and hospitality all came together for a wonderful evening. Would I return? You don't have to ask me twice.

Delightful dining experience! Recently was in Trinidad for a vacation and went out to dinner with…read moremy husband and our two kids. Everything we ordered was just amazing! The flavors and thoughtfulness of the dishes were so unique and fun. We ordered the Half and Half (Ribs and Brisket), the Halibut special, which was a philo-dough wrapped halibut, and the chicken special which was philo-dough wrapped chicken. The sides we enjoyed were asparagus (which my 6 year old declared was the best she'd ever had in her entire life), the coconut macadamia basmati rice (which I immedietly started researching how to make myself because it was incredible), and the twice baked potato. Everything comes with a significant sized size salad that has the most delicious dressing! We ordered the Baked Brie as an appetizer and had the creme brûlée and whipped goat cheese and chocolate (it has a better name but I can't remember it) for dessert. I am not normally a big fan of creme brûlée but there's was INCREDIBLE! We loved the goat cheese/chocolate, but that creme brûlée was OUT of this world! My only comment or suggestion if you go is to know that the portions are really huge for a fancy restaurant. The entrees come with a side and a large side salad and they give you a complementary charcuterie board as an appetizer (the bread on that board wasn't my favorite, but everything else was delicious!) and if we had known, we probably wouldn't have ordered our own appetizer. We had SO much leftover and took it to have as leftovers, but if we go back, we would probably split our entree and maybe even skip an appetizer? All in all, GREAT experience!

Solid place to hit up while in the Fortuna area. We came in for dinner and had a reservation, and…read morewe were seated promptly. I'd highly recommend a reservation for those busy nights during the busy times of the year. The seating area wasn't the largest, so I'd try to make sure you have a place waiting for you. It's good for the small town it's in. Compared to other steakhouse I've been to, it's not bad for a small town. I'd probably lean toward this being a Fortuna 5, but big city 4. The service of the staff is the real star of the show. From the moment we walked in, they were amazing. The appetizers were pretty forgettable, but appreciated. The ravioli in tomato sauce were alright. Salads were ok. Our bread was just a little burnt/overloaded. The main, which people come here for, was good. I asked mine for rare, and it hit. It was solid. The Mac and cheese side that came with it was just alright. Good time was had and service was spectacular, even with the long delays that evening. I'll give them another shot next time, and I hope they fix the issues they were apologetic about (wait times).

Unfortunately, there was a delayed wait time in between our meals being delivered, but staff was nice and friendly. There had been some situation in the kitchen that was causing the delays, and you could tell the waitresses were very apologetic for the issues it had caused. While the food was delayed, when we did the food was good in flavor and portions were very good. I think the garlic mashed potatoes were my favorite out of it all. We'll come again to give them another try, maybe for the happy hour since they looked to have good deals for that as well.

Even though they didn't have cioppino, it was the perfect choice. Sitting out on the patio with the breeze and the sun and the bay with pelicans and gulls flying and flowers all around was great in itself. The food and warm service people made it incredible. We had the best clam chowder I have ever had - thick, creamy, sweet with clams, and amazingly not heavy at all, just perfect. The hot crab sandwich was a special, so that made up our minds on one thing; and it was excellent. The onion rings were highly recommended by the waitress and the guy at the next table who had just gotten a serving. The breading was perfect and nicely seasoned, and the inch-tall rings of sweet white onion - wow. Giant, delicious onion rings. My son was attracted to the blackened sole but I persuaded him that we needed the clam cutlets because - cutlets of razor clam, seriously? And they were cutlets, a thing we had never seen, nicely breaded and delicious. We like clams. The fries were okay, just fries. The tartar sauce was light and an excellent tangy counterpoint, and the cocktail sauce was truly amazing. We were impressed. Both plates came with a small slice of tasty watermelon, too. We left very full and well-satisfied but not feeling weighted down. If you are ever in the area before 3pm on the days they are open - do not miss Gill's on the bluff By the Bay.

My friend had been raving about their clam chowder, so you already know that was going to be an absolute must. Then the host mentioned one of their specials was a BLT with heirloom tomatoes and basil aioli. Say less. She had me at BLT. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder and the BLT, while my friend went with the clam chowder bread bowl and a side salad. My chowder arrived well before my friend's bc they were still toasting her bread bowl. Unfortunately, enjoying my soup became a bit of a waiting game bc the soup spoon I was given was visibly dirty. I asked our server for a replacement, but it never came. By the time we asked another server for a spoon, my chowder had started cooling enough that a film was forming on top. Not exactly how I wanted to start my lunch. The chowder was still warm enough to enjoy. It was pretty flavorful, and I appreciated that there was a generous amount of clams. Nothing worse than potato chowder posing as clam chowder. Definitely not the case here. I also had a taste of my friend's bread bowl, and I can see why she enjoys that version. That garlic butter on the toasted bread definitely elevates things. Now, let's talk about that BLT. First off, I LOVE a great BLT. When our server brought mine out, my jaw dropped bc I was NOT expecting a double-decker sandwich. This thing was massive! I loved the use of heirloom tomatoes, but the basil aioli was a bit much for me. Each layer of bread had a hefty spread, and it completely overpowered the bacon. I eventually gave up on the sandwich as a whole and just ate the bacon and tomatoes. And that's when I realized they weren't using thick-cut bacon either. Next time, I'd definitely ask them to hold the basil aioli and give me good ol' mayo instead. Sometimes you just want your BLT to taste like a BLT. Despite a few misses with our lunch, I can appreciate what Trinidad Bay Eatery has going for it. It has that nostalgic, homey feel of a longtime mom and pop spot, and judging by the number of people waiting to be seated, they've clearly built themselves a following. Would I come back? Yes. There's enough on the menu that I'd be willing to give something else a try. And if that BLT special makes another appearance, I know exactly how I'm ordering it next time.
