Terribly slow. Waited an hour to see the doctor. Waited another hour to pay for visit. Poor communications with staff.

My mom's dog of 15 years was ailing and we knew it was his time to go. A hard decision to make as we love him so much and didn't want to be without him. We came in and all of the staff was caring, sympathetic and helpful. While we were there he had a seizure, the first he had ever had and we were glad he was at the vats and not at home cause we would have lost it. They helped him and catered to us and him and helped him go peacefully as he could. They sent him home with us in a little cardboard casket so we could bury him in the backyard with other pets we have loved and lost over the years. My mom is low income and disabled and helped us with the cost as well, which was very much appreciated. This vet is very much recommended. Very much like a human ER/ED with one or two doctors going from room to room-so a lot of waiting based on severity. Everyone who came to our room, approximately 5 folks, were very nice and made us feel important. It was just the bill that will have me never return. I selected this place based a someone Yelp review noting, not as expensive but while I was waiting in a room, I called my usual ER vet in Walnut Creek and everything from ER walk in, to x-rays etc was more expensive at this location. They did not have an ultrasound at the time I was there so I was forced to drive to San Ramon location. San Ramon location & Pleasant Hill location do not have the same systems so had to start over with information. Sadly, almost all veterinary location has been bought out by a Wall Street company and that is, why, prices have become unaffordable for a middle class or below to own a pet. It is tragic this has taken place as it is one of many reasons our shelters are so full. read more

If I could give 6 stars I would! Our puppy has been having on and off challenges with abdominal pain. Tonight he had another episode and we rushed him over to the ER we normally go to. Unfortunately, they were dealing with some critical patients and told us that it would be a few hours. Our pup was in so much pain, we couldn't wait. I called VEG and Dr Baker told us to come right down. Our dogs seem to end up at the Vet a lot and I have never seen a facility as awesome as this! From start to finish, every person was amazing. Dr Baker spent a ton of time trying to understand what could possibly be wrong with our little guy. We are now home and the pup is resting. Extremely happy with the service we received from VEG. My dog ate a toy, and it ended up stuck in her intestines. From the time we arrived, they took great care of her, and it was a really nice place for me to wait. The staff all seemed like they knew what they were doing, and after surgery, my dog is happy and back home. Everything is done out in the open, with you present, and I never realized how nice that really is. also, all vet experiences are expensive... But this one provided a full breakdown of the estimate, and surprisingly ended up being a little lower than the estimate at the end. I brought my kitty in because he was hit by a car. A team of professional, caring, and knowledgeable staff members quickly assembled as we proceeded to the exam table. Blood drawn, I.V.started and pain meds administered immediately. Dr. Alexander Gascoyne informed me of the next steps and I was shown the cost of what was being done as my kitty was taken to the get x-rays to assess the injuries. Everything needed is located at this site. Fortunately the only injury found was his bottom jaw was broken. He was taken off for surgery and the doctor explained and even took photos during surgery to show how it was repaired. When I returned to pick up my kitty Chunk he was resting comfortably in a kennel with a bed and a fluffy blanket! I felt like he was completely cared for and loved by the staff. I am so very grateful for the care he received. Was it too expensive to use the hospital? I don't believe in any way that I was overcharged. The cost of the Emergency Visit was $225.00, Full Set of X-rays $650.00, Wire Repair of Jaw Fracture $278.20, Placement of IV catheter $153, IV fluid bolus bag $70. The medication administered for pain and during surgery $462.00 take home meds $203. Don't forget tax of $61.61. I am including all the costs because that is so concerning when trying to decide which place to take your pets when you need Vet care. I will say that Chunk is comfortable now and I will be looking into pet insurance soon. It is stressful to make life and death decisions for our pets based on finances. I am so thankful for VEG and all of the wonderful people who were there to help us. read more

I couldn't be more impressed with this place. My dear friend had to put down her beloved dog, Sophie, of nearly 17 years. I went along as Sophie's "Tia" and to support my friend. The staff was so kind, caring, and professional. They made us feel like Sophie was their only priority that day, which I'm sure wasn't the case. My friend is on a limited income and the staff worked with her when it came time to pay the bill. When we left, they gave us a little succulent as a memorial of dear Sophie. This place is the absolute best!! PLEASE CHOOSE TO GO HERE! They took such great care of my kitty. He is high anxiety and they let me be apart of everything which helped him be calmer. They even let me watch his procedure and kept me updated! I was very welcomed to stay with him and I spent hours each day with him just on my computer in the kitty room. When the cost ended up being too much for me a minimum wage worker they were able to cap it and still give him all the care he needed. I had a horrible horrible HORRIBLE experience at Napa Solano pet Emergency but a friend recommend VEG. I don't have a clue where they are or what the state of the facility is. But going off a phone conversation with the doctor (didn't quite get her name) I have no doubt it's a very professional setting staffed with people who care about your furry family member. We have an 11 month old female dachshund in heat for the first time who suddenly went almost 24 hours without peeing. Not suffering, not straining, just indifferent every time we took her outside. But after 18 hours since her last pee how can you not worry that there's not something major going on with her? I called a vet who were just about to close but recommended Veterinary Emergency Group and gave me the number. I called and was promptly answered. She listened and said she'll get the Doctor who could better access the situation. The Doctor came on the line within 30 seconds and literally spent 5 minutes or more listening to the description of all of our beautiful puppy's symptoms and then gave suggestions on things to do to help her go pee. She never pushed me to bring her in for a consult ( unless another few hours passed without urinary relief of course). We followed her instructions had lo and behold, relief for both our little furry baby and our emotions came. Not to mention a huge relief from my wallet! It's much easier to trust a veterinarian who seems to put the animals best interest above making an extra dollar! And much easier to trust a veterinarian who talks like she's family and is concerned yet reassuring than one who's looking to bleed your wallet. Update: VEG Pleasant Hill gets better and better. Being able to call and speak to a doctor is a true gift. At the recommendation of my regular vet, I switched my cat from transdermal fluoxetine to liquid administered orally. Well, at the first administration of the oral medication, she began protruding her tongue constantly and wouldn't stop, and was unable to eat. I called VEG Pleasant Hill and spoke to Dr. Perkins, who walked me through the kinds of reactions cats have to liquid medications and reassured me that she would be okay but that I could absolutely bring her in if it didn't abate. It was such a relief to be able to speak to her, and I'm just so thankful every day for VEG! Tearing up just writing this. read more

I brought my dog in for a possible bowel obstruction. He was vomiting, whining, restless, and shaking. Most of the employees there were kind to us, one employee in particular went above and beyond to make my kids comfortable, and we all really appreciated that. They told me time is of the essence if it's a blockage so I needed to get him in there quickly, I woke my kids up and rushed over. They quoted me $1700 for the appointment, xrays, and antinausea meds..and I paid it on the spot, then with 5 employees in there and only one cat ahead of us receiving care, they had us wait for an hour for xrays, AFTER TELLING ME THAT TIME MATTERED REGARDING A BLOCKAGE.. and when I opened the door of our waiting room to see what the hold up was, the "dr" was sitting there stuffing her face and chit chatting and not looking like she was in any rush to do anything. After the X-ray, they came and told me that they could see there was food or possibly some foreign material moving through the stomach into the intestine, but that they could not tell definitively if it was just normal food or an object/material that he shouldn't have eaten, and they couldn't tell me whether or not whatever was in there had actually caused an obstruction. Then this supposed "doctor" told me she could do emergency surgery right then and there to remove whatever it was (it very well could have been just his normal kibble in there) or we could wait 6-8 hours and come back for another $300 xray. I did not like the way she spoke to me, and she was the only employee I didn't care for. My gut felt like she was being dishonest and shady and I didn't like her attitude. I stood there thinking like wait so I can pay for you to open up my dog right here and now without any real evidence of a blockage? Bizarre to me. I haven't stopped thinking about my interactions with her and if I wasn't so scared for my fur baby, I probably would have been more critical of her handling of things in the moment. OH AND BY THE WAY, THE NEXT DAY MY DOG WAS JUST FINE, NO OBSTRUCTION, AND ALL OF HIS SYMPTOMS WERE GONE. $1700 seems like an insane amount to pay for some xrays, anti nausea medication, and fluids. Most emergency vet appointments start at $250 for just the appointment. UPDATE: I received a call from Dr. Baker regarding my negative experience and review. He let me know that my experience was outside of what was normal for most patients. Based on other reviews, I agree with that statement. He apologized for the care we received or absence there of, and cited "cultural differences" as a contributing factor in my perception of her indifference. He said she's from the east coast and new to this side of the country. I believe Dr. Baker went out of his way to make sure I felt okay with the situation, and I do appreciate that. I think if we had received care directly from Dr. Baker during our stay with them, things would have been a lot different, and I wouldn't have left feeling the way I did. read more

What an experience! This team saved our dog! The care and support is unmatched. I had a very sick dog and they met me in the parking lot to help me bring him in, and never stopped attending to the needs of my dog or me until we were walking out with a smiling pup! I've always felt scammed when going to the vet, especially ER services, but VEG is different. I don't wish the moment in any pet owner, but if you have to go through it with a team, this is the one. First I want to say how much we appreciate everything that VEG did for us and our cat Axel last weekend. While ultimately things ended sadly, the compassion that everyone showed my wife and me was wonderful. VEG has an open treatment area with multiple stations for your pet to get care. Probably great for dogs and some cats, but not for our scaredy cat. But VEG has private rooms which they let us camp in one for hours. When Axel needed to be admitted, they basically told us to stay as long as we wanted and to sleep there if needed. We didn't, but again, I loved the understanding from the staff. For us, things took a while, so be patient. But, it could've just been me being impatient as I was super anxious about my kitty. Every step of the way the Doctors explained everything to us in detail. Potential issues, their resolution, and additional possibilities. It was transparent and not hidden which was very welcomed. When the cause was finally identified, they told us they could do surgery or they could send us to a specialist, and they had already confirmed that the specialist was available. That really impressed me. Dr Sana and Sewell were both wonderful and I appreciate everything they did for us, along with many technicians and the woman that did an ultrasound. This place is above and beyond any vet hospital I have ever experienced! The inclusiveness is welcoming and interesting. They talk you through every step of the process. I was able to watch the procedure and told what was happening. The woman (I feel bad because I don't remember her name) was diligent in looking for the foxtail lodged in my cat (Gravy's) eye. She searched and found it and pulled it out! Impressive. If anyone there responds to this post please mention her name for me! Patient: Gravy seen on 5/21/25 foot a foxtail in his eye. This place is amazing. I would not go anywhere else in an emergency. Before arriving we called. We spoke to Alfred who immediately got us pre-checked in. When we arrived we were quickly greeted with a small area set up for us. Sorry in advance if I mess up names. Dr. Katie (I think that's her name, she is blonde haired veterinarian) is so kind. She's straightforward but compassionate and answered all our questions. She went above and beyond. They give you an upfront estimate so you're not surprised. NURSE TRISTAN IS THE BEST!!!! She is so kind and gentle. I would trust her with everything with my pups. She answered all our questions and I felt like she genuinely cared. I forget the names of the other assisting staff but they were all terrific. It's not a typical vet or emergency vet. Its open floor plan allows you to stay with your dog and actually see what's happening. You get to be apart of the experience instead of being put into some small room, anxiously waiting. It doesn't have that weird vet office smell. It's clean and top notch. Vet costs are always expensive, but I feel that VEG was incredibly reasonable for all they did for our senior pup. I was honestly shocked because the place looks so fancy I was scared about the cost, but it was totally worth it and fair due to all the tests and imagining and medications they provided. I believe they have a payment plan option as well. Thank you so much to VEG and the team that took care of us. I would 100% recommend them to anyone in an emergency for their pet. The staff is always empathetic, patient, and takes time with both the animals and their owners. They provide genuine advice and never seem focused on just making money. I am recommending this business! This morning I had to take our dog to VEG, because of a severe cough. My regular vet recommended VEG to me. The doctor's and staff were so honest, and straight forward. I felt they performed all tests appropriately and not to just make a buck. Everyone I dealt with listened to everything I said and they made sure to explain my dog's treatment plan, in layman's terms. I felt they were very attentive to my dog's needs, as well as ours. I also loved the entire layout of the office, (see picture.). I did not see any private exam rooms, but they probably do have some for more serious injuries. They allowed me to watch my dog's x-ray procedure, through a glass door. I always wonder what is behind all the closed doors and the back office, at my vet's office. You can't see if the exam rooms and all other rooms are clean; or dirty! My vet's office and Sage never let you follow them behind closed doors. I always think they're hiding something from me. I was extremely happy with the visit today. I'm a fan! At VEG you observe everything that's going on. There is full transparency. read more
