Thank you to the wonderful staff at VEG for your care of Scout today. Staff were incredibly responsive, attentive and caring, there was no wait time and they immediately put me at ease. I'm very grateful that they were able to see us so quickly. No body wants to have to visit the emergency vet but VEG just became my go to for care in an emergency. Thank you! read more

Five enthusiastic, tail-wagging, floppy-ear-saving stars for VEG San Ramon! When things get hairy with your pets, and I'm not talking about the fur, I'm talking about those unexpected panic moments that send you racing to an emergency vet, you want expertise, compassion, and honesty. After our recent experience with VEG San Ramon, I can confidently say they exceeded every expectation. A few nights ago, my dog developed an aural hematoma on his ear. While a floppy ear might not be a big deal for some dogs, mine is a working dog, and preserving his physical condition is important for the job he does. Knowing we needed emergency care, I immediately tracked down Dr. Brittany, a veterinarian I had worked with before and trusted completely. There is a reason I sought her out. Dr. Brittany combines the bedside manner of an angel with the skill and confidence of an exceptional emergency veterinarian. She listens, truly listens, not just to the symptoms but to the owner and the individual needs of the dog. For those of us in the working dog world, finding a veterinarian who understands the unique challenges and safety considerations of these dogs is incredibly rare. One of the things I love about VEG is their open-concept hospital. We were able to stay with our dog, watch the procedure, monitor his condition, and actively participate in decisions. As a teaching hospital, Dr. Brittany asked if a student could perform the procedure under her supervision. Normally, I would have hesitated, but her confidence and willingness to remain involved every step of the way gave me complete peace of mind. The results were outstanding. At one point, I had concerns about making an additional adjustment during the procedure. Instead of dismissing them, the team had a collaborative discussion with me, and together we agreed on the best path forward. That level of partnership and respect is priceless. I also want to recognize the nursing staff. Every technician and team member was kind, professional, and welcoming. They treated both us and our dog with incredible care and compassion. The hospital was spotless, organized, and genuinely felt like a place where everyone worked together for the best outcome. And now, let's talk about everyone's favorite emergency-room topic: the bill. Emergency veterinary care is never cheap. If your dog hasn't figured out how to file insurance claims or start contributing to the household budget, you're paying for it yourself. That said, VEG was transparent, fair, and upfront about costs. They offered options, discussed treatment plans thoroughly, and made sure there were no surprises. As a working dog handler, Dr. Brittany will always be our first call in an emergency. But more importantly, this experience reinforced our trust in VEG as a whole. The care is collaborative, the communication is exceptional, and the focus is always on what's best for the patient. To Dr. Brittany, the students, the nurses, and the entire VEG San Ramon team: thank you. You didn't just treat a hematoma. You cared for a dog who means the world to his family, and that kindness, skill, and compassion will never be forgotten. 100% recommended for any emergency veterinary need. read more

VEG was quite possibly the best pet ER experience you could ask for. The entire staff was kind and supportive. We have an EXTREMELY anxious 9yr old shepherd. Despite him being in pain and extra on edge, the team took their time to treat him and make him comfortable. He had a swollen paw and a lot of pain, but we didn't see anything happen to him. The vet was perplexed by his symptoms, because it looked like it could have been a rattlesnake bite, but there wasn't any visible bite mark and we live in West Oakland (literally just surrounded by concrete). But she was absolutely right. He was treated for a bite and is now recovering smoothly. I highly recommend VEG. They are all top notch. read more

This is the worst vet emergency hospital and I never leave bad reviews. Rather than trying to fix, diagnose, or treat your animal to health, they propose euthanasia as the easiest option. This is my second experience where first they wanted to put down my 1 year old kitty who was having urinary problems. I kept asking why they weren't starting him on antibiotics? I asked why are they compounding with stronger pain meds? Obviously his condition is getting worse if you're only treating the symptoms and not the cause. It was almost like they were setting him up for failure (death). They didn't care or listen when I told them I was a Pharmacist and had better recommendations on medication choices. I kept taking him every other day as his condition was worsening and they only kept adding stronger pain meds without identifying and treating the root of the problem. It made my parents sick to hear their suggestion of putting my cat down on the third visit. They didn't have the heart to even tell me that. So, my mom called all of her friends and found a "hero vet" who saved my cat's life. He actually DID start antibiotics and other meds to help with urinary flow and some pain meds to keep him comfortable. He also recommended a wet urinary diet and Calm Probiotics to be mixed in his wet food. We kept him on the meds for a month and he continues to eat his urinary diet. My baby is a healthy 4 year old now. I can't stand the horrific practices at VEG San Ramon. And now just the other day, they put down my friend's cat who was only 6 years old. Again, they couldn't diagnose or identify the problem so they suggested euthanasia. I feel there's a huge conflict of interest in their treatment of our sick pets and their push to get mildly sick pets euthanized and then cremated. This is sadly a scam business. I was so happy when they first opened because I felt a sense of relief having a 24/7 emergency vet nearby. Little did I know their ruthless practices would bring so much pain to pets and their parents. Please don't trust them with the health and wellbeing of your fur babies. read more

All things considered what an amazing experience! My poor cat wasn't doing well and all of the staff at VEG were truly amazing. I felt like they cared deeply for me and my cat and wanted to make both of us as comfortable as possible. I got to stay with my cat every step of the way and we were never apart which was amazing! They were also super helpful with helping me figure out finances and getting some care credit for all the bills. Highly recommend! I won't ever go to a different pet er if it's ever needed read more

"I don't know where to begin about how incredible my experience was with the team at Veg. They saw me right away, took fabulous care of Pumpkin and were very attentive and informative. AND they did not charge me for my visit! AND they gave me kitten food to take home. AND I asked them if I could give them each a hug. This place is pretty good for an emergency vet. We were there because one of our dogs had Coccidiosis and wanted to make sure she didn't become dehydrated from her vommiting and diarrhea, in addition for prevention for the second dog. So not a big emergency, but just a needed visit. Once you call, they are pleasant and send you a link to check in before you get there. Upon arrival, you are pleasantly greeted and we were placed in a waiting room all to ourselves. Within 15 minutes the doctors /vet tech arrived to examine our dogs. And as we waited on a comfy sofa, we didn't really mind the wait. We were there for 2 hours. They did make us feel like we weren't forgotten. Several doctors came to check on us throughout our stay. They didn't have the medications needed to treat our dog, but they did handle all the symptoms til we could get our dog to our regular vet. Plus they didn't charge for our second dog because they couldn't really him. Not the cheapest spot, but what emergency vets are? read more

I would like to compliment the young woman at the front desk who was working the afternoon of 6/27/26. My pup was clearly very agitated, and I noticed there were several patients in the waiting room. I thought it would be best for everyone if I stayed by the entrance. She was incredibly understanding and immediately offered to triage my pup right where we were, which I truly appreciated. Once they discovered what was wrong, everything moved very quickly, and I was understandably very distraught and emotional. During that stressful moment, she showed such kindness and compassion--she even offered us bottled water. It may seem like a small gesture, but it meant so much to us and made a difficult situation a little more manageable. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. To and Nurse Mei for their swift action as soon as they identified what was wrong with my pup, Mia. Their urgency, professionalism, and compassion made all the difference during such a frightening time. They also allowed my partner and me to remain by Mia's side throughout her treatment, which meant so much to us. Dr. To continually reassured us that Mia was going to be okay, answering all of our questions with patience and kindness. We truly felt heard and supported every step of the way. I would also like to thank the entire team involved in Mia's care. From the day shift staff who worked hard to start her IV, to Nurse Mei for making sure Mia was kept warm and comfortable, to the night shift team led by Dr. Wong for seamlessly taking over her care--everyone showed incredible dedication. A special thank you as well to the gentleman nurse who assisted with Mia's discharge this morning. He was gentle, kind, and so thoughtful while removing her IV and EKG stickers, making the process much less stressful for Mia (and for us). From the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for saving Mia's life. We are forever grateful. read more

All the team members are amazing!! And the manager Jason is a great guy, they offered funds to help animals in need,at not cost ,

Super helpful and empathetic staff. I called in regarding a concern and they were able to address all of my questions. My cat had blood in his urine so even though I had an appointment already scheduled with my primary vet a few days out I knew I had to bring my cat in (to check for anything fatal/immediately serious). Of course since it was an emergency/not planned I had to bring my 9 and 2 year old in also which I was dreading. Right away when walking in I felt immediately better. 1) Clean open space - I thought I might have to be stuck in a small space with my kids and cat but instead loved how there were vets/techs treating pets in different well-prepared areas of the room. There are rooms available if needed but thankfully my cat was able to be seen right away on a portable space. 2) Fast service - we were seen right away and even though the testing took 3+ hours (my cat's bladder was really really small and I opted to do the urinalysis even when it didn't work the first time) i appreciated how we were given a space right away 3) Staff professionalism and friendliness - all the staff seemed warm, approachable, friendly and I didn't get the feeling that anyone was trying to "upsell" me...I know going to any vet is expensive. That's just the way it is! I didn't feel pressured or guilted into making more expensive decisions though. 4) The BIGGEST reason for a 5+ star review is the waiting area/entertainment available for the kids!!! After my phone almost ran out of batteries a staff member told me there was a play area/waiting room for the kids and that saved the day!! I was able to focus on being there for my cat and my kids were hanging fun! They really thought of everything to make their patient-parents-family feel welcome. Cookies, hot water, coffee, tea was available in the waiting room along with toys! And since my phone DID completely die when my daughter tried to call me they even had a phone charger available (different chargers for different phones). In the end my cat ended up being fine and just needed a prescription so I'm very thankful for the whole experience!! read more

These people saved my cat's life and the gratitude I have for them is hard to put into words. My cat, Virgil, who's a year and a half old, suddenly started showing signs of straining in the litter box one Friday afternoon. We have two set up for our cats, and he'd go from one to the other, visibly straining but not producing anything. But he was silent, and I only happened to notice it because I saw how he kept going back and forth between the front room to the boxes and back. I immediately called our vet, who told me to take him to an ER right away because it was possible he was experiencing a urinary blockage, which is deadly in male cats. They recommended VEG. We took him in and they wasted no time taking us into a back room to start examining him and getting all the background info they needed. They call this an open concept hospital, meaning that while they have private exam rooms, all of the procedures happen out in the open in the middle of their airy, large space. I had mixed feelings about it, plus I'm not sure how the animals feel about it when they're already distressed, but I also won't act like I know more than the experts. They also have rooms to accommodate pet owners who would like to stay overnight with their animals so they can get some sleep. This facility is open 24/7. Virgil did have a urinary blockage and needed to stay for two nights to have his bladder drained, be put on antibiotics, and observed to make sure he could pass urine on his own. Luckily he was resilient and made it out ok, but it was a very scary weekend that could've ended differently if I didn't notice and act as fast as I did. The doctors were extremely communicative, calling and texting throughout the days and nights to update us. One minor critique of this is that their text service is one-way only, meaning you can't reply via text, you can only receive them. I do think that should be updated. Virgil received the best possible care and he's still here because of them. Now, I'm not going to pretend this wasn't one of the biggest expenses we've ever had -- it was over $7000 in the end, much of that due to the cost of the overnight stays. It is insane how much pet care costs, and the amount due was eye watering. I can't recommend enough that every pet owner get pet insurance because you never know when something like this is going to happen. Most of the cost was covered by our insurance, but we still had to pay $3000 out of pocket. I'm not sure what the cost would've been at another hospital, but I can at least say the doctor was extremely thorough in explaining what every line item on the bill was and why they needed to do every test and procedure they did. Virgil is home and made a great recovery, and we're extremely thankful for everything VEG did to help him and to educate us on how to try to prevent this from happening again if at all possible. Thank you, VEG. read more

I honestly dont know where to begin, but if i could give them 10 stars i would! Brought my dog in today because she was in labor and her first puppy got stuck. As soon as i walked in they got my dog assessed and immediately started helping her get the puppy out. Unfortunately that puppy did not make it but they helped us as fast as they could. Then we discussed further treatment to get the other puppy out safely, she was quickly taken back for xrays to determine placement of puppy #2. Almost immediately after bringing her back out puppy #2 popped out. They immediately started attending to the puppy and helped out of its sack and getting him to nurse on mom. I would also like to add that during this whole emergency my two young children were with me and they were given snacks and tended to while i stood by my dog. This was more than i could have even asked for. The entire staff was friendly, informative, compassionate and helped in any was they could. And after all that i was charged a meer $300 and some change. I was terrified i was going to be facing a $6000+ bill and not once during the process did they demand payment, only asking me to approve one estimate which i didnt even end up paying the whole estimate. If we ever have another pet emergency this will be our first stop. And i just want to thank all the staff again for being absolutely amazing to our family and our fur baby!!! read more

Our cat Acorn experienced a serious urinary blockage that turned into three emergency visits, a hospital stay, and ultimately surgery over the course of about two weeks. Needless to say, it was an incredibly stressful time for our family -- but the entire team at VEG made all the difference. Reception, nurses, doctors, everyone! From our very first visit, everyone we interacted with was supportive, patient, and genuinely caring. Every step of the process was explained thoroughly, and we never once felt rushed or left in the dark, even when we called with questions in between visits. We were at the clinic almost daily for two weeks, and that level of care and attentiveness never wavered. We especially want to thank Dr. Gascoyne, Dr. To, and Dr. Dewlaney, who we were in close contact with us throughout Acorn's treatment and recovery. Each of them brought expertise, compassion, and excellent communication to every conversation, and we always felt like Acorn was in the best possible hands. Acorn is now fully recovered and back to his happy, healthy self, and we credit that to the dedication of this entire team. We can't thank them enough for the way they cared for both Acorn and us during such a difficult time. Highly recommend VEG to anyone facing a pet emergency. George & Alicia & Acorn read more

We brought our 18-year-old dog in around 4 AM after she had been lethargic and regurgitating for hours. She was barely responsive, and we were honestly terrified. From the moment we arrived, the staff was ready for us--someone was at the door waiting, which immediately put us at ease. The facility is clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The open-concept emergency area lets you stay with your pet the entire time, which meant everything to us. Sadly, we had to make the incredibly difficult decision to put our sweet girl down after 18 years. But I can't say enough about how the staff handled everything. Every single person was kind, compassionate, and professional. We were there from 4 AM until about 2 PM, and not once did we feel rushed. They gave us the time, space, and support we needed to be with her through her final moments, and treated her with so much love and dignity. They also showed the same care to my mom and me during one of the hardest days of our lives. Easy 5 stars. I hope I never need emergency services again, but if I do, I would come back here without hesitation. TY to all the staff. read more

Veterinary Emergency Group in San Ramon saved our senior cat's life. We rushed in during the middle of the night with Kiba suffering from a life-threatening urinary blockage. It was one of the most frightening experiences our family has ever faced. The team responded immediately with urgency and professionalism, but what truly stood out was their compassion. The receptionist staff was incredible. They handled all payment and administrative details with patience and clarity while we were exhausted and emotionally overwhelmed. They made a chaotic moment feel organized and manageable. Dr. Caitlyn Wilson took care of Kiba through the night and was exceptional. She explained everything thoroughly, answered every question, and treated both our cat and our family with genuine empathy. This was our first emergency of this magnitude, and she guided us with steady confidence. Nurse Gina provided overnight care and was outstanding. She is warm, deeply caring, and a wealth of knowledge. Knowing she was caring for our cat gave us peace during an incredibly stressful night. When Dr. Casa took over the next phase of care, she continued that same level of excellence. She was attentive, professional, and compassionate. The continuity of care was seamless, and we always felt our cat was in capable hands. They also worked with our budget and helped us navigate options without pressure. Five stars is not enough. I can't thank VEG enough for the care they gave my cat during an emergency visit. He had an open wound, and the moment we walked in, we were triaged within minutes. What impressed me most was that the actual doctor was already in the room--I didn't have to repeat the story a dozen times to different people, which is such a relief in a stressful situation. From there, the vet techs came in to check vitals, and before I knew it, we were in the procedure area. I was shocked (in a good way!) that I was allowed to stay and watch--it really gave me peace of mind to see everything happening in real time. Dr. Nina Matsuo and Nurse/RVT Destiny were absolutely wonderful. Kind, patient, and so sweet--they walked me through every step and made sure I understood what was happening. Their compassion really made a scary situation so much easier to handle. While I truly hope I never have to step foot in an emergency vet again, VEG will always be the first place I think of if I ever do. To Dr. Matsuo, Nurse Destiny, and the entire VEG team--thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking care of my sweet boy and for treating both of us with so much kindness. I can't recommend VEG Emergency Vet in San Ramon enough. This was our second emergency visit, and once again, the care was exceptional. My senior dog arrived in severe neck pain and was shrieking. A veterinarian saw him within 10 minutes of our arrival, which was such a relief during a scary situation. From intake through treatment, every single staff member treated him with genuine compassion, kindness, and so much love. One thing I especially appreciated was that I was able to stay with my dog for almost the entire visit, which helped keep both of us calm. They were also able to perform X-rays and bloodwork on-site and get the results back quickly, allowing us to start treatment without unnecessary delays. The team was transparent about pricing every step of the way, so there were no surprises on the bill. When you're dealing with a pet emergency, that kind of honesty and communication means a lot. My sweet 16 year old pup with congestive heart failure was experiencing some acute symptoms, and my primary veterinarian recommended VEG. Prior visits to an emergency vet had not been great and I was expecting to wait hours to be seen. From the moment we walked in we were actively being taken care of by the incredible VEG staff. I really love the way VEG is set up. You are with the care team and your pet in an open area instead of sitting in a waiting room separated from your pet. It might make me emotional even writing this review, but VEG saved our kitty's life. Two weeks ago he escaped the house and fell out of a tree; we came rushing up to VEG with a barely breathing, bleeding, banged up little guy. I had called ahead and multiple staff came rushing out to get him, and went to work immediately. Based on what we were being told, we thought he wouldn't make it. Pneumothorax, fever, broken leg, sky high lactate levels, the whole nine yards. We had the kids say goodbye and everything. But between amazing care at VEG, a femur surgery at another clinic we were referred to, and a stubborn will to live, he's still with us. I don't think I was in my right mind that night, but thinking back I appreciated everything from the open floor plan where we had access to him at all times, staff constantly checking on us and giving us updates (both treatment and financial status), a comfortable waiting room, giving our boys quarters for the stuffy machine, and just the general understanding of the staff. I think it's a given emergency care is pricey, so we had that in mind at all times, and they were able to accommodate the options we chose. Special thanks to Dr Sana and truly everyone else we interacted with that night. read more

it's already so hard saying goodbye to our beloved pets. thankfully, the staff at VEG made that process as smooth as it could be, given the circumstances. if you need empathy, patience and knowledgable staff from the first call to exiting the facility, this is your place. the receptionist was super kind, offering cookies and warm/cold temp water when i was falling apart and stressed out. while also being efficient in getting my info/the details of my chinchilla's condition over to the doctors. the doctors were very honest and caring of my chinchilla. it's hard enough finding an exotic animal vet near where i am but thankfully they have colleagues with more experience with chinchillas/rodents. they were very sweet to my baby chester. they also have a space with separate rooms with cozy lighting, tissues and a comfy couch, for people to say goodbye to their pets. as i was saying bye to him, they provided different options for cremation and offered to take fur clippings for me. they were very respectful when taking him away because they wrapped him in the blanket that i had brought him in. i requested his whiskers, his tail bristles, and fur from his leg area. they went the extra mile as they captured his white chest fur, plenty of his long whiskers and the softest part of his fur which belonged to the top of his head (that i had kissed prior to letting him go) ultimately, they brought clarity in a situation that i hadn't prepared for and instead of me scrambling in confusion, they were able to guide me through. shoutout to the staff at VEG! read more

We had to take our immune-compromised dog to VEG recently after we noticed one of his paws swelling up and turning purple. We were so fortunate to have Dr. Matsuo looking after him. The level of compassion and care that we received from her is unparalleled. She was so patient, kind, called with updates frequently, and genuinely cared about his well-being throughout his stay. When his condition got worse and had to be transferred to specialty hospital, she called hospitals multiple times, trying to get him admitted after being told they wouldn't take him and even escalated to her Director to also make phone calls. She fought for him - fought to keep him alive. After she was finally able to get a specialty care hospital to take him and he was transferred, she called daily to check up on him even after he was discharged from VEG. The world needs more doctors like her especially during difficult times. Dr. Matsuo is a kind human, who gives me hope again that there are doctors out there who actually care about their patients vs. focusing on volume. VEG is so incredibly lucky and fortunate to have her and I highly recommend that if your pet ever has the unfortunate need to go to VEG, you ask for Dr. Matsuo. It has taken me a while to decide whether or not to write this review, but I thought I should share my experience so that others could be well prepared if they are making the decision to bring their dog here for euthanasia. For starters, the reason why I came here was from the phone call I had prior to making this very difficult decision. The person on the phone was very polite and reassuring so I thought this would be a good place. However, I did not realize that the hospital is open area concept and all exams/ procedures are happening right in the center of the room, unless you go into a private room which is where I went. Truth is I never experienced having to put down a soul dog before and the pain is truly unbearable. And being there didn't make it easy because there was no awareness for me and my loved one. The walls feel paper thin and you can hear everything that's happening outside your room. From the laughter to the jokes techs are making which I have no problem with but I had wish someone on the team would had made it aware to staff members that someone in the room next to them is losing their loved one please keep it down so we can respect this moment and mainly just have some Empathy for what's happening, even if it's just for a bit I understand life and work keeps moving but even it had been 30 mins that would have been appreciated..Also there's nothing positive about having to pick a urn and pay a bill before he is put to sleep that needs to wait in my opinion... All in all had I know this I wouldn't have decided to bring him to the ER however his symptoms didn't allow me to do it at home ..or else I wish I would have after this experience I don't think this place is bad I just think there needs to be improvement when it comes to euthanasia at this facility. Having awareness and empathy can go a long way I did speak with someone to voice my concerns and she apologized which I appreciated very much. Just want to recommend people to ask the right questions and remind them this decision does not come likely to make sure you don't go through something like this. The day before Halloween, we had one of our family members (a senior kitty - 18 years old) deteriorated very quickly and after some labs at a vet, we were recommended to go to VEG. When we brought her in, there was an immediate reaction as someone took the carrier, and brought her to a table, and 4 or 5 people converged on the table along with a veterinarian (Dr. Melissa Ogg). The immediacy and the amount of care for the patient was amazing along with how they treated her. It was the end stage of kidney failure, where there was so much potassium in the blood, that the vet was amazed that the kitty was still with us. They stabilized her the best they could and provided us options for hospitalization if we were to choose it, with the costs and made us aware of the realistic expectations even though the vet knew that we would do anything in our power to save her. We just didn't want her to suffer once we found out the diagnosis. The VEG staff supported us through a difficult time, where we had to eventually make a decision to put her to sleep, and they gave us as much time as we required for both the decision, and to stay with our kitty. She passed away with us being there with her, and we were very appreciative of the VEG staff for being compassionate, but also having the technical abilities and urgency where they took care of her with the utmost care. It's great that they're open to help people at all times of the night however, when you bring your dog in and they charge you $1300 only to take it back to the vet the next day and have to put it down. Months later my heart still aches with regret for bringing my guinea pig here in his final moments...they were drawn out, with unnecessary pain (he required a second sedative shot after the first wore off, due to how long the staff left us waiting with our dying pet). They refunded us for the service, but I would much rather have paid and had his final moments be peaceful and dignified. I'm not looking for a response...nor would I take kindly to one; what happened can't be undone or fixed. I just want to warn others so they don't have to feel the heartache of their little loved one having a poor end-of-life experience. read more

Regarding my visit on September 2, 2025: Most of the staff at this clinic was compassionate and supportive. Unfortunately, my experience with the assigned veterinarian, Dr. Hayley Bernal, was the complete opposite--and it left me deeply disappointed on what was already one of the worst days of my life. From the start, Dr. Bernal was impolite and dismissive. I requested to see Dr. Becker, who had treated my dog Leonidas two days prior with kindness and understanding. She flatly refused, insisting she would "handle" the case. When I showed her a video of my dog's seizure, she initially brushed it off--until he had one right there in the clinic. Only then did she acknowledge it as a seizure, with zero apology for disregarding my concerns earlier. As the situation escalated, so did her coldness. After Leonidas endured two seizures in the clinic and had been medicated, I asked for a larger room to wait in while my family arrived. Instead of even a shred of compassion--no "How are you holding up?" or "I'm so sorry this is happening"--she abruptly asked, "Have you made any decisions?" This was regarding the quality-of-life conversation I had started about seizure medications versus euthanasia. To speak to someone so clinically when they're contemplating the end of a 17-year bond with their pet is inexcusable. When my family did arrive, she rushed through his lab results and clinical findings as though she was ticking boxes rather than guiding us through an impossible decision. We ultimately chose to spare Leonidas further suffering. Not once did she offer to make his final moments gentler--a softer blanket, a treat, or the small comforts I later discovered in another room when I returned to hold his body. The contrast between the kindness offered after he was gone and the coldness during his final moments was heartbreaking. A few days later, I called back seeking clarity about why Leonidas had another seizure just 15 minutes after being medicated. Rather than providing a thoughtful answer, she curtly told me to "focus on healing" instead of the past. It was dismissive, unprofessional, and frankly, cruel. In speaking with other staff members, I learned this abruptness is "just how she is." That may be tolerable for colleagues--but for grieving families, it's devastating. Dr. Bernal may have clinical skills, but compassion and professionalism are clearly missing. I will forever resent the way she treated me and my beloved Leonidas. This experience was irreversibly traumatic, made worse by her lack of empathy. If you bring your pet here, I strongly urge you to request another provider--Dr. Becker and Dr. Billote were everything she was not: kind, patient, and humane. Edit: Dr. Bernal did offer me a hug during one of the many times I broke down in tears, but it had the warmth of a light pole. On brand with the rest of my time with her: procedural and unfeeling. read more

Veterinary Emergency Group - My angel baby, Leonidas - Emergency Pet Hospital Near Me - San Ramon, California

I've been to VEG twice for my senior cat, and two entirely different teams of doctors and nurses cared for her each time respectively. Both were amazing experiences that exceeded my expectations, but I'm mainly writing a review for my most recent visit as it's the emergency visit that led to losing my baby. I came in late on Sunday night because my elderly cat hadn't been feeling well. She wasn't eating, grooming, using her litter... she even refused Churu treats, and at that point I knew something was very wrong. The woman who was at the front desk at the time is named Blair and she's the most lovely and kind lady, a ray of sunshine. My best friend came in at one point to visit my cat, and Blair offered both of us cookies and water. Thanks, Blair! :) Once we were situated in a room, the visit started with a nurse taking her vitals, which were all great and in healthy ranges although I was told that my cat had a heart murmur. Then we did blood work which was where the majority of the problems arose. My cat had irreversible kidney problems, and the potential temporary treatment for her seemed too risky as it could lead to a painful death for her anyway. I wasn't expecting this outcome, and I thought that she was just feeling a little sick and worst case would leave with meds. But that wasn't the case, and I wanted to avoid a painful and sudden death at all costs, so the right choice to make was to euthanize my baby. By early Monday morning I had decided that she would be put to sleep. It was incredibly difficult, easily worst day of my life. Truly beyond words, and I don't think anything will ever top how horrible this day was. Once I got the blood work results back I have been crying and I still haven't stopped at the time of writing this review (I'm crying writing this!!!). But the team at VEG made this difficult process as easy as it could have been. I felt like I made the right, informed decision for my cat. I've never experienced a pet euthanasia prior to this, but they walked me through it step by step and were patient when I asked the same questions multiple times. They were also thorough in explaining each part of her blood work results. The doctors and assistants 100% informed me the process would be very quick and painless, but I wasn't ready for how quick the process actually was while it was happening. I told my baby cat that I loved her multiple times throughout the night, hugged her, told her everything I wanted to say. But I didn't get the chance to tell her I love her while she was taking her last breaths because that was how quickly it went. I spent the entire duration of the euthanasia crying while holding her paw. If you happen to be reading this and are going to euthanize your pet, please hold your baby the entire time while they pass and reassure them that everything is going to be okay. :( Right before she passed one of the assistants shaved off a portion of her fur to place a catheter. I requested to keep it and the lovely assistant placed it in a vial for us to keep. I regret not remembering her name, but she was also SO sweet and made the process a lot easier. Everyone here was kind and compassionate, both times that I visited. The first time the doctor even texted us the next day to check on my cat and how she was doing. I am so thankful that the worst day of my life was with the team at VEG around to support me. Both visits lasted around ~8 hours, which sounds like a long time, but it's an emergency service and understandably they have a lot of pets to care for. For pricing transparency, in total I paid around $1,500 for the second visit. The costs covered everything that I mentioned in this review including the after care services pertaining to the euthanasia. Costs won't come as a surprise because they'll send you a quote before any services are performed, and the bill at the end usually reflects the quote very closely. This is likely going to be the longest review I'll ever write on Yelp, but it was for a heavy experience and I wanted to be as thorough as possible. If you have a very sick furry friend, and/or have to go through the painful process of a euthanasia, you can ABSOLUTELY trust VEG at San Ramon to provide the best care there is for your babies. I really hope that I never, ever have to return, but if I do I know that any pet under their care will be in the best hands. read more

Quite honestly, I can't think of a thing that they could've done better. I was absolutely pleased with everything that took place during the time I was there and even then the time when I was waiting for the blood test to come back, they checked with me and explained that there would be a waiting time for the blood test, etc. can't imagine anything being better thank you. Dr. Casa. She went above and beyond to help my dog when I told her that I had been there before, but because they updated their system, they couldn't find my previous visits. She went back and went on the old system and found my visits and found the things that were done for buddy before. She also very carefully explained everything the medication the test for the dog, etc.. Dr. Casa is an outstanding veterinarian and I am very happy that she treated my dog." read more
