My Dogs vet was unavailable and I reluctantly went to Sage to have her eye looked at as she was not acting right with one eye and from previous experience of how quickly a dogs eye can go to nothing if not treated as the case with a previous dog. Best thing that ever happened was going to Sage as pepper got the care she needed by Vet- Lindsay Swirble. She is the only vet we have gone to in Bay Area that actually has experience with pugs. Dr. Linsey Swirble saved my dog (pepper)with her caring, throughness and experience. My dogs vet would not of even had the required equipment in their office or experience that she had a foxtail (1 inch) lodged behind her eye. She examined my dog with such care even putting dye and a black light to check for laceration. My previous pug lost his eye because a laceration was missed from a bad examination until I took him to an eye specialist a week later who said it was too late and it could of been fixed if diagnosed sooner. If I had taken that dog to Dr. Linsey Swirble at sage I know he would of also had his eye today as my dear pepper . I will drive 2 hours to see her from now on just to get the right care. I have had many dogs and vets over the years and this doctor is the best. She treated my dog like she was her own child. If you think its expensive to get ER care it was not. It was about $60 more then regular vet visit but it got fixed right away, correctly. My dogs eye is worth far more than $60. They have equipment that regular clinics do not and have the best veterinarian in Bay Area Dr. Lindsay Swirble. My only regret was not taking my previous dog there who did lose his eye by 2 regular vet visits that charged and misdiagnosed when I know Dr. Swirble would of known how to fix him the first time by her thoroughness and caring before that dog lost an eye. If you are in doubt if the cost will be too much or the care is any good don't hesitate. Dr. Swirble is amazing and I will go when she is working to make sure my dogs are in good hands. I took my little loyal in because she had been sick. I called ahead so they were ready for me when I got there. We met with the tech, Veronica, and the doctor. They worked up an estimate that was quite large. The estimate had a low end and high end numbers. Veronica sat with me and explained each charge along with how and when it may apply. We played around with the numbers to help us fit it within an easier budget. Veronica was very thorough, patient and informative. My baby was sick so we had to do something. I left my pet with them to be treated while hospitalized. Unfortunately, I did not know exactly how sick she was. Within a matter of a short period, diagnostics came in with not so good news that left us with two options. Neither of which I was prepared for. After hearing the extent of my babies sickness, it was evident we needed to set her free. As painful as those words and that decision was, it had to be done. We drove back to that hospital to be with our baby. Sage has a special room just for the letting go process. Although we were not ready to say goodbye, we appreciated the quick return on labs and such, that gave us the answers needed to make the right decision for our girl. If you have been trying and struggling to piecemeal answers for your ill pet, I'd suggest going to this one stop shop. They have the doctors, staff, equipment and specialists on hand to get you the answers your pet and your family deserves. We love you Tabitha and miss you greatly. I am incredibly disappointed and disgusted by the lack of empathy and urgency at this location. I brought in 4 rescued kittens that had been accidentally trapped under a client's crawlspace for over 5 days without food or water. This was an absolute medical emergency. Instead of acting quickly, the receptionist was incredibly rude and told me to wait for a nurse just to decide "if they could stay or not." I ended up waiting for over 40 minutes. While I was waiting, three other clients walked in, and all of their animals were taken back to see a nurse immediately. When I questioned the staff about this, they claimed the other animals were emergencies. How are 4 starved and dehydrated kittens not considered an emergency? What makes this worse is that this place is supposed to work with local animal shelters, yet they couldn't care less about these rescue animals when it actually mattered. It felt like because these were rescues and I wasn't a standard high-paying client, they didn't want to bother helping them. A veterinary hospital should care about saving animal lives, regardless of where they came from. The lack of care, terrible communication, and rude behavior at the front desk are completely unacceptable. Avoid this place if you actually have a real emergency. read more

I've had horrible experiences here with two different dogs at two different life stages. The through line is that they dont check your animals' medical records, their care is completely substandard, and they have zero compassion for you or your pets. I took my senior dog here to get treated for vestibular disease. He seemed to be on the mend when he became lethargic two days later. I rushed there just for a different vet to tell me I needed to euthanize him because he was "no longer himself anymore." It was clear she didn't read his chart bc he was a healthy dog before those last couple hours. In shock, I pressed for more info and she shared he had a 102 degree fever. I pleaded with her to give him fluids and treat his fever. he completely recovered until passing of old age two years later. I recently took my 4 month old rescue puppy here after he started throwing up all food and fluids. Suspecting kennel cough, they grabbed him from my car and took him to their isolation rooms. After much waiting and worry, the vet comes out and sternly tells me the puppy bit their tech and he's being reported to the county and they're worried he has rabies. I'm completely shocked and flabbergasted they didn't bother to read the vaccination records I shared or care that he's a traumatized former stray dog I've had for a week. I would have thought precautions would have been taken to either be gentle with a traumatized puppy or use a muzzle. Knowing I took him there for dehydration, they keep him alone in a kennel for nearly four hours, giving zero water because they "didn't want him to throw up." I called several times for updates and eventually had to park myself at the front desk, or it probably would have been an even longer wait. Finally I get one dropper of meds for kennel cough, get him home, and he immediately throws it up. That was the reason I took him there in the first place except now he's even more dehydrated. I desperately call and they say the doctor will call back asap. Did they call? Of course not. A second dog of mine would have died needlessly if id trusted their care. Thankfully a kind vet close to home agreed to see him after hours, gave him IV fluids, and prescribed meds for coughing and nausea. PS Sage recommended $1,100 worth of needless tests and x-rays that refused because I didn't want him there alone for four more hours with no food or water. But didn't feel the need to prescribe any meds that would help him eat or drink. If you love your dogs stay far far away from this place unless you have no other choice. I've never been so disappointed in an organization in my life. read more

My dog had to be seen fairly urgently on a recent Saturday. There were no appointments available at our regular vet, so we drove 30 min over to SAGE. This was about 11:00 am, and luckily there was only one other person waiting. We were seen promptly, and I feel like everyone we dealt with was helpful and professional, from the receptionist, to the vet tech, and to the doctor. The doctor came up with a plan and explained everything thoroughly. My dog needed a minor procedure, and we were told he would be ready to be picked up in a few hours. My dog was ready in 2 hours, and we were given prescriptions and thorough discharge instructions. The price was fair, and luckily we have pet insurance, so we should get a reimbursement. As a registered nurse myself, this felt like a familiar setting, and I was very impressed with the care my dog received! read more

what a horrible place. To start the two people in the front desk look at you like you are disturbing them when you walk in. Not frienfly or welcoming at all! I found a dog that almost got hit by a car, he was clearly scared and stressed and when I opened my door he jumped right in. I took him to sage vet since it's the only vet still open after hours. Wanted to see if they could scan him for a chip, no chip and after waiting almost 45 minutes the nurse came out and said they could only keep him if he's injure, they work with anima services but not in this case cause he was not injured. what a broken systen, next time I'll let the dog get hit by a car so they can take him. read more

Today was our worst day. The staff at SAGE helped us through it, face the illness that presented itself rapidly, and educated us with information needed to be able to make a hard decision- with compassion and professionalism. Long sentence, I know. But truly. They were great with our Diamond girl, as we learned she likely had a hemangiosarcoma, definitely had a pericardial effusion, and was struggling. I'm going to start by saying, Dr Jack (Jack Meagher) saved our cat, Ruby's, life. Ruby came into the ER after being diagnosed at another emergency vets office. It was touch and go for a few days, but Dr Jack thought outside of the box and figured out what was really going on with Ruby and saved her. His entire team was so friendly and took super good care of our baby. After seeing how kind they were, and babied our Ruby, I trust them 100% with Rubys care. The cardiologist (Dr Lori Siemens) who we also saw was just as kind and gave us all the information, plus some, that we needed. We will be seeing Dr Siemens again in the near future and since Ruby will need to be seen by a cardiologist for the rest of her life I'm glad it's her. read more

My cat was sick and this and vca were the only place open. I called on a Sunday around 11am there was no wait and they said to go over. This place is more like an emergency room for animals. The place is huge with a ton of parking. It does feel like an emergency room. I was the only one there so I was checked in. My cat had a fever and was not eating. They got me right into a room within 10 minutes. They said everything seem okay but that they had to do X-rays and probably give antibiotics because of the fever. I had a pet die in the past so I think i just agreed to the price $1,960 for a fever! I had to leave her there for a few hours then they called me to pick her up. They just gave antibiotics said her heart looked inlarged. They gave me cat food and some medicine to put on her ear to make her hungry. They reimbursed me $50. So total was $1,900 for a fever. I personally think the price was outrageous. The care and place was nice but the price is too high! read more

We experienced a pet emergency at 2'o clock this morning. Our dog, Keira, a shih-tzu, 13 years old, had a new onset of seizures, 2 total. We called ahead and they rushed to take care of her but she passed away. Dr. Matte and her team were so exceedingly kind, sensitive and considerate. She was very thorough in getting a history , explained what they did, what they found and what may have contributed to her death. We know she was advanced in years and death is inevitable but during that time of need, in an emergency, our dog and our family were treated with so much care and respect. I will never forget their compassion. The site was also very clean. They had a special place for us to say goodbye to Keira. i made a yelp account specifically for this warning PLEASE READ: if i could rate sage a 0, i would. I brought my foster baby in at noon when her health was declining and the vet wouldn't listen to me. The vet told me she was eating too much for a 3 week old kitten, but if you go by weight she was eating less than enough. We brought the kitten home and she immediately started to die. I had brought up her bloated stomach because the kitten hadn't had a bowel movement in over 24 hours, but i was dismissed. She had painful diarrhea that made her howl in pain. Have you ever heard a kitten scream in pain? We called SAGE again, but the nurses told us to wait a few more hours to see if symptoms worsened, so that's what we did. 3 hours later at the kitten's next feeding, we discovered that she had expelled more feces from her bowels. we weighed her and she lost over 13 grams of feces and blood. Alarmed, we took her into the vet again where the scolded us for not booking an appointment sooner. We had to put out tiny kitten down because of SAGE's negligence. They do not listen to customer. they do not care about the animals. they only care about the money sent to them by the county. attached are pictures of the fosters SAGE put down from one litter of four. read more

This is not about cost or care. This is about bedside manner. Every single person was cold, rude, and impatient. Even the vet. I tried to give grace--it's an emergency vet and there might be some high pressure situations. But the place was pretty empty the three hours we were there and I saw only two other animals come in. I called ahead of time to check for availability as my cat was suffering from throat inflammation. Smokey retched and gagged as if something was stuck in his throat. The receptionist, Bashelly, was kind, patient and courteous as she listened to my needs. When I arrived, the nurse was very concerned and attentive. The vet, Elizabeth Matte, came in and was laser position focus and she was very concerned. I had gone to VCA hospital in Antioch and felt disregarded and disrespected. Thankfully, SAGE took care of my cat immediately with sedation and oxygen. I was constantly kept informed unlike the lack of attention at VCA hospital. . It cost a smidge more but worth it for the professionalism, respect, compassion and attention that I received and my cat. I was also informed that my cat had a heart murmur and gallop unlike my care at VCA hospital. Now, my cat is on the mend and I'm thankful for their care. When we walked into this cold establishment, I felt unwelcome and unacknowledged. While checking in they took our cat without telling us when we will see them. They didn't communicate properly with us or internally. They tried to "help" him by keeping him over night and costing 5k. And when going against that plan so we can leave for a second opinion, THE DOCTOR SHAMED US. Costing us A TON of money and almost the life of our cat. I came here due to an emergency after my recently diagnosed with cancer dog Kain, who could no longer stand up on his own (he is over 100 lbs). After calling multiple places for in home euthanasia, nobody was able to come to my home that night. I made the decision to take him here that same night. The bedside manner that all the staff displayed was above and beyond, and not once did I feel like I was being put on the spot or judged for my decision. They even had stretcher to take Kain on a stretcher from my car to inside the hospital. Their rooms were very calming and despite the circumstances of saying good-bye it was all handled in a professional manner. Thank you SAGE staff for helping me through such a challenging time, and the card sent by Dr. Wong was definitely a nice touch! From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt supported, informed, and truly cared for. Dr. Strasser took the time to explain everything clearly and compassionately, making sure we understood each step of their treatment. Her professionalism paired with her genuine warmth made a stressful situation so much easier to handle. My wife surprised me with a puppy that I felt so attached to. Well it turned out to have parvo, they wanted 4 to 6 k to treat him or 1100 for home care. Meaning there just giving me meds and pretty much I take care of him. So I'm assuming meds were 1100 then another 180 for next visit and could be more money after. 4to 6 k I can't get over that for what medication and a place to stay. I'm better off renting a hotel, basically medication is what I'm being charged. It's sick how could ppl afford this it's disgusting the price for medication. Then charged me 600 to put my little guy down I'm heartbroken from I'm also upset at the service to just say we can put him down for 600 because there price was outrageous. My dog was seeing the cardiologist at this hospital for several months. The last time we brought him in we informed the doctor about his coughing and vomiting. The cardiologist disregarded our concern and said it was not related to the increase in medication. Told us his bloodwork was good. Gave us more medication and kept us on our way. Two days later, admitted my dog back to the ER for the 3rd time in 4 months. My dog was now diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia and had fluid in his lungs, and now at end stage heart failure. Took him home with even more medication and 7 days later passed away. Cardiology never informed us of fluid buildup or that my dog was at the last stage of his heart disease. Spent so much money for a specialist just to tell us about bloodwork and not do secondary check ups (like maybe an EKG since YOU'RE THE SPECIALIST IN CARDIOLOGY) to see why his cough came back or why vomiting was occurring. Next time, I would get a second opinion and go somewhere else if I'm gonna spend 15k to do whatever I can for my pup. On top of all this, the department knows my dog passed because they called to verify the upcoming cardiology appointment, to where we notified them of the passing of our beloved pet. It's been a week and not one condolence call or email has been sent our way from Sage, knowing we trusted them with our baby. read more

She spent the weekend there and I'm worried about her but glad, even having spent a lot of money, to know what's going on and have an idea where we're headed. I had to bring our boy Jaxon in to Sage yesterday, a day after seeing his Vet for the same issue, which was getting worse. There new facility is fantastic very modern and easy to get to. The front desk staff were very nice and friendly. We saw Dr. Ryan Beverly and we're immediate fans. He took a very good history, and gave our dog an excellent looking over. He checked everything, he said we could either continue the course, because he felt it was nothing serious or we could get labs and an Ultrasound of his abdomen, for our piece of mind. We chose the later, because I wanted to be certain he did not have a blockage after eating grass. We left him for the day. They said the ultrasound would be done at 3:30. At 4:00 Dr. Beverly called us with good news that there was nothing serious and prescribed add on medication for him. I'm very impressed with Sage, I am extremely picky about my two dogs and I could not find anything wrong at Sage. Some of the negative reviews scared us a bit, but everyone is entitled to their opinions. Thank you Dr. Beverly and Staff for taking such good care of our Jaxon. read more

Here's a funny story. We took our 13-year-old Shih Tzu to the vet this morning because he was limping and whimpering. As a loving mom, I naturally overreacted. After the assistant took his temperature, which he hates, he suddenly seemed fine and ready to leave. We waited 20-30 minutes for the vet, then I told the front desk he seemed okay and we'd come back if needed. They convinced us to stay, saying someone would be with us shortly. A staff member explained there was a wait due to other dogs, but she took ours with her when she left the room. We asked if we could go to the car for a sweater, but she said no without giving a timeframe of when the vet will come to see us. We decided to leave anyway. Just a minute later, as we were walking back into toward the entrance door, the nurse ran out to tell us the vet was ready. We were surprised since we expected a longer wait. The vet, Kiera Steele, assured us there was nothing to worry about, and we could take him home at no charge. We laughed on the way home, thinking Sage must have feared we were abandoning him. But no way were we going to do that! I'm sure they've had pet owners abandon their dogs and their duty to pay the vet bills, so I 100% understand. Thank you Sage!! I really appreciate you for calming my own nerves and assuring my baby will be safe. I would have paid a fortune to keep him alive. I was just really cold inside your office! read more

It's taken me 2 years to share this. I wish I remember the vet's name- but that isn't too shocking that I don't, it was one of the worst days of my life. I took my girl in because she was having shortness of breath. The vet expressed that her heart was failing and she was approaching the end of her life. She was so transparent and told me they could keep her over night on oxygen and monitoring her vitals but emphasized that if it were her in my shoes, she'd take her home and love on her. She passed away the next day, I am so thankful for that last night I had to love on her. There are absolutely practices that are production driven and I didn't get that vibe here. read more
