We went in tonight after a really scary situation with our dog. We initially spoke with Dr. Valerie Savino over the phone, and she was so kind and reassuring. She recommended that we come in, and she was wonderful in person as well. She was incredibly thorough, patient, and took the time to explain everything clearly. She answered all of our questions and made us feel so much more at ease during a very stressful situation. You can tell she genuinely cares about her patients and their owners. VEG was beyond amazing. We arrived scared, worried and anxious and after a few hours we left relieved and happy. The staff was amazing, Dr. Savino came in immediately to assess my cat Socks. Cassidy, Jelani and Christine were also so helpful and friendly. The best part is...if you are struggling financially, they will not hesitate to still help your fur baby and work something out with you. It was well worth the 40 minute drive from SF. You never want to take your pet to the emergency vet, but if you do please take them here. You will not regret it! Wow, what an incredible team at VEG Veterinary Emergency Group in Larkspur! Our 7-year old pup had been lethargic and occasionally yelping in pain, and we knew we wouldn't be able to get into our regular vet until Tuesday at the earliest. So we called VEG on a Sunday - we were able to speak with Dr. Tracy and she was helpful over the phone. Given his age and handful of symptoms, she did recommend a visit. I brought him in around noon on a Sunday and thankfully beat the rush. VEG is located in a BUSY shopping center with Trader Joe's and Cost Plus. Thankfully they have a few dedicated parking spots out front. We were triaged in the waiting area, and our whole visit took place there. They have dog beds to make the pups/pets comfortable and water/coffee/snacks to make the humans comfortable. The space is light and bright and very welcoming. Most of the team got down to my pup's level and checked him out on the floor - what a lovely touch to make the experience less stressful for my pup (rather than elevating him on a table). Dr. Tracy and Team took great care of us. My guy had an ultrasound and some bloodwork taken, and nothing major was detected. What a huge relief. They were communicative and clear about wait time and pricing. They gave us an anti-inflamtory for the likely neck pain and a script for a pain med, if needed. We saw some more serious cases come in, and the VEG Team acted calmly and with such kindness and compassion. Thank you for all that you do. We hope that we don't need to visit again anytime soon, but if we have another emergent concern, VEG will be our first stop. read more

I had to take my girl to the emergency vet because she wasn't eating, drinking and seemed very lethargic for a while after nibbling on half of a of monstera leaf when I wasn't watching. Mostly importantly, my lil poop machine is also not pooping! Everyone was kind and welcoming, esp. nurse Shawndell, which helped ease the tension of the situation---it is an emergency vet, after all. Dr. Walker explained and provided the options and procedures to check her health. I opted for everything on the list: bloodwork, radiographs, and IV fluids under sedation, and etc. Afterwards, she strongly recommended overnight hospitalization with more fluids, monitoring, and further testing, with the possibility of surgery if things didn't improve. TBH, the overnight option felt a bit pushy. But I understand that she wanted to provide the best possible care, but it also prepped me for the worst if I didn't agree. Honestly, I don't regret taking her back home with me. She seemed slightly better the next day and even better the day after. I feel like the combination of spending more time with her, the fluid IV injection and force-feed her Critical Oxbow Care food really helped. That being said, I really appreciate the follow-up calls. They provided more updates about her liver, since lop bunnies are more prone to have liver lobe torsion. Still, it's clear that they don't have much information on rabbit liver lobe torsion bc there just aren't enough case studies. read more

Our dog had an ear infection and we needed to go to the ER as we are not full time in Marin. We were recommended VEG by my mother and it was a wonderful recommendation. The location is convenient, clean, joyful, bright and everyone was so accommodating and low key. Though many dogs are seen in the large open area, our dog suffers from anxiety, so they put us in a room and allowed us to bring our golden as she is her "emotional support dog". No judgements, no negotiations, just treated us like a guest and everyone was welcome and happy. They took good care of us all and in no time we were out with drops. I do not know everyone's name at VEG, but Billy Anderson the ER vet was very kind and knowledgeable. I wish our regular vet was this easy. Thank you again! read more

Absolutely cannot say how impressive this practice is. My vet couldn't see me for days! Gus was licking his paw incessantly. Turned out my newly rescued Havanese had a tiny foxtail in his paw. It had already traveled into his foot and had to be dug out. They were great with him and he's recovering well. Everyone is friendly, professional and focused. The open plan is so different from traditional practices. It is good to see what goes on behind the scenes and I was able to be with Gus the whole time. This place is amazing. I have a little rescue dog who was supposed to be spayed. She suddenly got very sick so I took her to another emergency vet who discovered she had a single giant puppy and was going into labor but the puppy was too big to be delivered. They quoted me $8000 for an emergency C-section. I don't have $8000 so the vet sent me here. Once I got there the whole staff was so helpful and nice. The vet (I can't remember her name I was so frazzled) said there was a chance she could have it naturally and she wanted to see if that was possible first and they would operate if any problems presented. They made her a little nest in a room and she started to have the the puppy but it got stuck so I went and got the vet outside and she was able to help her deliver it naturally. My little dog is 11 and the puppy wasn't healthy so I made the decision to euthanize it. They couldn't have been more helpful with this entire traumatic situation. I almost don't know how to put into words my experience today at VEG in Larkspur. My beloved cat Tazzy has had crystals and stones in his urethra which block urine and are very painful. 2 years ago he was literally on his death bed with this same diagnosis and I had to take him to at that time the only other ER vet in Marin. It was awful. He was in a life or death situation and at midnight on a Saturday night that hospital wanted 3,500k up front to treat him for anything beyond fluids. I live on disability. I did not have $35 let alone $3,500. The stress this created I cannot begin to describe. No one should ever have to choose between the life or death of their pet in hard times. He survived with the help from a non profit. So, here we are again and I chose VEG because I had heard great things. Great is an understatement! From the moment you walk in you're greeted at the front door and the hospital has an open floor concept so you go right up to the exam table and meet with the team (Dr) to triage your baby. Then we were put in a private room, offered tea or coffee, and every single test, result, opinion, referral, advice and support was provided in an extremely professional add detailed manner that blew me away. I cannot say enough about this hospital and I felt comfortable knowing my baby was in excellent hands. This is concierge top notch care. read more

I had been to VEG's San Ramon location a year ago for the same issue, where they were able to give sub-q fluids until we could see a specialist the next day. But since this episode started on a Sunday morning, we couldn't risk waiting without a more aggressive treatment. We arrived at VEG around 1 PM. The waiting room was full of dogs--a familiar feeling for most rabbit parents, who often feel overlooked in non-specialist settings. But from the moment we walked in, the staff immediately attended to us. From the front desk to the techs, assistants, and doctors, everyone was unbelievably kind. While we waited, staff checked in multiple times, offering refreshments and comforting words. Our primary doctor was Dr. Tracy Spiegelman, who had the perfect balance of intelligence, compassion, and humility. She was upfront about not being an exotics vet but shared that she had experience with rabbits and a network of exotics specialists she could consult, including colleagues from Chabot in San Leandro. She reviewed Vinny's results with her network before recommending next steps. Ultimately, the team suggested a decompression procedure for his dry blockage. Though Dr. Spiegelman had never performed the procedure herself, she was coached by her colleagues, felt fully confident, and empowered us to make the decision. That decision saved my rabbit's life. Dr. Spiegelman successfully extracted a large mass of hair and debris along with 150 ml of fluid that had painfully distended his stomach. Afterward, we were able to hold him as he recovered from anesthesia. We left VEG at 11 PM, exhausted but hopeful. The next morning at 7 AM, we returned to pick him up and met Dr. Anna Walker, who had kept a close eye on him overnight. To our surprise, his cage was adorned with lovely photos of bunny paintings (a la Vincent Van Gogh, his namesake)--a small but incredibly touching detail that warmed our tired hearts. After another day and a half at his regular vet, Vinny was finally discharged and is now recovering at home. There are very few times when such a frightening ordeal can leave you with so much gratitude. Any rabbit parent knows how rare it is to have a good ER experience, but if I could shout it from the rooftops I would: your rabbit is safe with the team at VEG. VEG ER has been absolutely incredible with my dog, Weller. After a surgery at his regular vet led to an infected wound, I ended up bringing him here more than four times in just two weeks. Each time, the team treated his wound with such care and prioritized his comfort. They were also empathetic toward me as an anxious pet parent. They even called to follow up on his progress, which is such a thoughtful touch for an ER! Wow, I had only ever been to the Emergency place on E. Francisco, off the freeway in San Rafael. Being in So.Ma(rin) VEG was closer (old Tower records spot that is now Trader Joe's off the Freeway to the right- before Sir Francis Drake/Larkspur Landing Exit w/BEVMo -next to TJs and World Market) and although seems small from the front was spacious and modern and fully staffed & equipped for an emergency. I had spent the night debating if I should take my Pug in or not- for potential Aspiration Pneumonia- (wet loud barking sound) and how they can go from better to bad at day 3-7! Anyways, I tried my vet first in the AM and she had explained that they needed X-rays and to hold her - would maybe need to be put under- and for a brachiocephalious dog- if she took a turn while under(wet lungs) they would NOT have what they need to save her- ie oxygen etc to intubate her. So, my Doc made notes and sent over to them, while I headed over. Was greeted by very friendly staff in a clean tidy spacious space. It was probably 8:30am. I was the only customer. Saw Dr Anderson who went over her history of the many recent things that got us to this moment. She did a quick Sonogram? To look at her lungs to see if she could see foreign matter in her lungs. Yes. They were able to do X-rays and not put her under. They were able to discover this GI issue we have been trying to solve- which put her on rice and cottage cheese which led to it in her lungs- and then this Xray. They prescribed Amoxicillin and cans of a Hill's Rx diet. She just finished all that and really has been doing better each day that passes. I just really appreciated the Doctor's thoughtful process and everything we needed for success. She was luckily on the upswing. *This is the Modern ER for your pets. Totally would recommend to everyone. Call ahead or just go- they are helpful either way. They are 24hours open. read more

My pup and I were greeted within five minutes by four members of the staff and one of two veterinarians that I could see on duty came up to check on us as well. This facility is so clean, hi tech with an open concept so nooo secrets behind the treatment rooms. My pup didn't have a fox tail thank goodness but a terrible inflamed hot spot. They washed his paw, treated it so carefully and wrapped him up so nice. They went above and beyond to ensure he was not distressed in any way. And they checked in with me so that I wasn't worried or thirsty or hungry while I was watching all the cats dogs and many birds come in and get great care and attention . The prices were fair. The place is fascinating. It's nice to know when things go wrong and it's an emergency, we have a fantastic team at VEG to go to 24 /7. Thank you Henry, Susie and Dr Drexler. I was very disappointed. I went in with my pet that had flea and ticks (Nexgard medicine) poisoning. Visible neurological issues, vomit and diarrhea. The young doctor suggested that he is an old dog and the symptoms are matching the old dogs behavior. Doctor resisted to admitting the meds were at fault. Suggeste X-rays. I took my dog and left. She got angry and upset. She said she would do whatever I want to treat my dog. How about being kind and taking care of an emergency instead of tryinng to figure out underlying issues of a senior dog? I would not raccomand this place, unless you have too much money and don't know where to spend it at, maybe an X-ray??? read more

UMMMM where do I start?!? I left in TEARS..but GOOD tears! VEG is literally the best Vet I have ever walked into ...(and unfortunately iv been to over 20 in the past 9 years with my other 2 dogs. (Mom and daughter) that have the most horrible allergies. My little Chihuahua Lola unfortunately got a gastritis flareup last week and had severe vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and started getting extremely lethargic. In the 2 1/2 years I've had her she's been through this once before and it was extremely scary and we ended up at an emergency vet in Berkeley. After that experience, I was horrified, it was the worst experience ever and so knowing I had to bring her to an emergency, but it was so emotional and scary for me. They want it over $6500 just to keep her eight hours and do an ultrasound and x-ray back then so I was scared.. when I called VEG I explained my situation and my financial situation and they said bring her in.. didn't hesitate.. just bring her on in now. I was with my 10-year-old daughter and they made her so comfortable and made sure she had everything she needed. My little Lola received the best care and made her feel so comfortable. I wish I remembered the veterinarian's name. She was a younger girl with brown hair. She was so sweet and caring. I also can't thank the vet assistant enough either. He helped us with the financial application side of it and explained everything so detailed and was so caring about our dog. The thing about veg is they truly care about your animal! It never feels about money or finances to them. Most emergency vets iv gone to it's all about finances and it doesn't feel they are really concerned about your pet. At VEG it's completely Opposite. I had first heard about VEG through Petsmart as they told me that's where they're guinea pigs get care if they have to go to the vet before or during the sales process at the store. I couldn't find a home vet quickly on a Sunday. The team allowed me to go home to get my other dogs and waited with my boy until we returned. My 3 year old cat tends to over groom. When I noticed a piece of stool that was unable to fully exit, we drove to this location around 9:30 PM on a Friday night. During the drive, I was frantic and unsure if it was stool or an anal prolapse. The team was very sweet and calm. After checking in, my boy was seen and they helped him clear the stool. Turns out it was cat fur that he was unsuccessfully pushing out. I was also told that taking my cat to trained professionals (for incidents like this) was the correct thing to do. Beyond grateful for this place and their amazing staff! My sister had a recently adopted parrotlet that was sick and we couldn't find any vets that would see her. Initially we took her to PETs in Berkeley because their website said they saw exotic pets but when we got there they didn't have anyone available that would treat birds and referred us to VEG's other location in San Ramon which was quite a long drive to make at night. By chance we found their Larkspur location when looking up the address for the other hospital and after a quick call to confirm they see birds we headed their way. We were immediately put in a room, almost right away we had a tech taking the relevant information and not long after the vet stepped in. This was honestly the quickest emergency visit we've ever had from checking at the front desk to seeing the vet. The vet quickly assessed the little parrot and had her rushed to be put on oxygen, unfortunately she was a lot sicker than we thought and her condition continued to decline so it was decided the humane thing would be to put her to sleep to avoid further suffering. We were able to stay with her the entire time she was there, every tech and the vet that treated her was very kind, knowledgeable, and patience in clearly explaining everything that was going on, the options my sister had for the care of her little bird and then finally explaining the euthanasia process. We're really grateful to have this hospital so close to us offering such a specialized service. After doing a little more research we've found many great things said by other bird owners about VEG hospitals, which is really reassuring because it is not easy to find vets that will see birds in general and it is even more difficult to find emergency care for them. If I could give VEG a 10, I would. The facility is very open and you can see what is going on. From the minute I came in with my dog I was treated with kindness and respect. They even brought me coffee! I did not have to wait long before the Vet looked at Sierra. She explained everything thoroughly to me. Sierra had had a slight limp the night before. When he woke up in the morning the limp was gone but I decided to bring him to the VEG does because he had had CCL surgery in the past. The good news was that he was fine. She gave me two prescriptions that I could feel anywhere that I wanted to. Everyone, everyone at VEG was so kind. I have been to another animal emergency place in Marin. I sat there for hours. Was fee for the exam was was $230. I did not even ask but they gave me a senior discount of 10%. I live in Marin county which is a very expensive area. The average vet fee is $190... This is just to go to the vet. Sometimes when you go to a vet they cannot help you and you end up going to another vet that they refer you to. I live about 45 minutes away, but the (multiple) emergency vets in my area always have 5+ hour waits, and it's about a thousand bucks just to walk in the door. Ironically, one of those emergency vets actually recommended this place to me. I had 5 foster kittens who I was concerned may have contracted a virus. Long of the short- the service, kindness, compassion and swift treatment of this facility are absolutely worth the drive- if time is in your side and you're in the north Bay Area. I can't promise it's always swift as that depends on how many animals are in for care- but in my case we were seen almost immediately. The nurses and vets were thorough, but also not ordering excessive tests and treatment. Everyone I spoke to was SO nice and kind, and of course they loved the kittens! I hope not to have an emergency again any time soon; but if I do, I hope I can take my business here instead of VCA. Thanks all! read more

I have a difficult dog (80 pounds, reactive) and the team at VEG were just so absolutely amazing with him during a recent health crisis. We had to spend many, many hours, and an overnight there, and the VEG team treated him so expertly. I was in awe of their talent and skill. This facility and team are amazing. I've been there 6 times now, including 4 times in the past six weeks, and I've been so impressed every time. They are kind, compassionate, respectful, patient, and super transparent about the care my pets are receiving. The facility is clean (and has great cookies, baked on site twice a day!) and has private waiting rooms but also a public space model so you can see what's happening with your pet and be present pretty much end-to-end. They've also been willing to advise me within reason and with caveats over the phone rather than giving the standard line about how they can't give any medical advice without seeing my pet (again). I'm not a vet myself, but from everything I've observed, they are good at their jobs and also super kind, good humans, which is so helpful in these stressful situations. I brought my very ill almost 18 year old cat there last weekend and was pretty sure that we'd be saying goodbye to him but wanted him looked at just to be sure. The minute I walked in the door Dr. Tracy approached me and asked if my cat was ok, I said no and she immediately got him up on a table and started running tests. He had a whole team of people monitoring him and telling me what was going on and I was right there with him, petting and talking to him the whole time. It was unlike any vet experience I had ever had and I so appreciated their attention to my best boy. It was determined that he'd most likely suffered a stroke at some point in the last few days and that's why he was having trouble walking. His body temp was also below normal so they immediately started warming him up, which I know he loved. They gave him a pain med which also made him feel good and I was glad to see him so relaxed. The decision to let him go was made and I was put in a room alone with him. He was super comfy on a big soft blanket with the warming device still on and he seemed relaxed and content. I was able to stay in the room with him until I was ready for the procedure to begin. In the meantime I made the cremation arrangements and was shown samples of urns and was able to select one right there on the spot. Dr. Tracy and Jesus were both wonderful and made a difficult situation bearable. I truly appreciate the professionalism and kindness I was shown and I especially appreciate the care my beautiful boy received in his last hours. On Sunday, 12/27/25, I had to take my pup in for emergency care. I had adopted a 13-year-old Chiweenie just the day before, and after more than 24 hours without a bowel movement, I became extremely worried that something was seriously wrong. I was scared. My little Ripley was lethargic and shaking, and my mind went to all the worst places. This was my first visit to VEG. I live in San Francisco, and it took less than a half hour to get there. The moment we walked into VEG, all of our fear and anxiety began to melt away. We were welcomed right away, and they began assessing and treating Ripley immediately. The facility was bright, spotless, and incredibly welcoming. Everyone moved seamlessly through the space, interacting so positively with one another and with other worried pet parents like me. I have truly never experienced anything like it. What stood out most was that I was an active participant in Ripley's care. I was with him the entire time -- talking to him, petting him, and holding him while Dr. Billy (who was absolutely amazing) and the staff worked to figure out what was happening and how best to help him. Everything was explained clearly, and every question I asked was met with patience, kindness, and compassion. I want to extend a tremendous thank you to Dr. Billy for the incredible care she gave Ripley -- his little tail wags said it all. Dr. Anna Walker saved our german shepherd's life. Our dog is twelve and flipped her stomach. We rushed her to VEG. They saw her immediately. They were able to diagnose the issue quickly and were so very helpful guiding us towards making the right decision for our girl. We were able to stay with our dog the entire time. We could even watch the surgery. Our dog survived, and seems better than she was prior to the incident. We've been to the San Rafael hospital where they take your pet and you have no visibility into what's happening and your pet is stressed. This experience was so much better. I highly recommend VEG. Our sweet dog had three cluster seizures in an hour and we had to rush to this emergency room at 1:00am which was super stressful. Every single person we encountered at the clinic was incredibly kind and loving. Dr. Tracy, was so knowledgeable, compassionate, and the exact calm presence that we desperately needed in that moment. This is a pet hospital that truly cares about both animals and their humans. I strongly, strongly recommend them!!! I am so incredibly grateful to the wonderful staff here. All emergency veterinary care is expensive but at least the patient experience here is excellent. The clinic is one large room with examination tables where you're never separated from your pet. This is good for the animal and good for the owner. read more

I had to bring my 11 month old puppy in for labored breathing - from the moment I walked in we were tended to immediately! The entire staff was amazing! Luckily it was a minor issue and we were out the door in less than 30 min whereas other ER's for animals is an hours long experience. You of course never want to have to bring your 4-legged to an ER but if you do this is the one to go to!! read more
