The front desk team is always welcoming and fun to interact with, though they are often extremely busy and seem to need extra assistance. Additionally, the nurses are wonderful and very knowledgeable, but they often appear to be in a hurry. It seems that the current staff is working very hard, as I notice the same team members present at all hours. I wanted to kindly suggest that management consider increasing staffing levels and becoming more directly involved to help support the team during these busy times. Thank you for your time and for the great care you provide to our community.

I should have wrote this a while ago, but I am still incredibly upset with two incidents at his…read morevet. First, I took a very sick kitten to get treatment. The positive, I called on Christmas Eve and they were about to close and weren't opened on Christmas (obviously), but the receptionist was able to schedule us on the 26th. We get seen on the 26th, and get antibiotics to treat the kitten. All is good at this point, We come back a week later for a follow up and the vet sees the kitten is recovering well but still on antibiotics. But she insisted on giving her the first series of vaccinations. I hesitated thinking shouldn't we wait until she's completely recovered? But the vet insisted, so she gets them. I should have gone with my instinct. Later that night, around 1:30am, I wake up to find her head moving erratically and her eyes moving rapidly side to side. I immediately rush her to emergency where they gave her something to calm her and said to take her to her vet as soon as possible. So what happened, since the kitten was still recovering and her system was weak giving her the vaccinations caused a severe vestibular reaction, and permanently causing a head tilt in her. Whenever I take her to a vet that's the first thing they notice and I have to tell them the story of what happened at Arroyo. Second incident, I took another cat to check on an eye infection and they were still doing the "stay in your car, we'll get your pet to get checked or treated, etc". I asked is there any way I could be with my pet while they see her since she's very skittish with people other than my husband and I, I will wear my mask to be safe. They said "no" because of protocol. So I wait in the car. 10 - 15 minutes later the vet called to say my cat ran from them, and they kind of lost her in the office, but now she's in one of the exam rooms hiding and she won't let them near. What the heck?!! Wasn't the exam room closed? And when you did catch her how did you handle and treat her?! I ask, could I just come in and try to get her and the vet said okay and let me in. They take me to the room. I find her hiding scared to death behind the computer monitor. I immediately go to her and pick her up to calm her. A couple minutes later I go out to let them know I have her and the staff just gives me this look like "how did you get her so fast and hold her". This is why I will only go to a vet who lets you be with your pet through the whole exam. Who knows what they are doing and how they are handling your pet behind closed doors. Because of these incidents I will not be going back to Arroyo and have been trying to find another vet I can trust.

However, when we arrived at the facility the day before my flight to Japan, that facility told me that Hans boarding was being denied due to him having a heart murmur condition. Even though I had been a loyal customer to this facility for over 10 years, and that my flight to Japan was less than 24 hours away, and that they waited until I was at the checkin desk in order to inform me of the denial, representatives of this facility stated that there was nothing they could do and that they were simply following company policy. So me saying that Puptown literally saved my trip is a huge understatement. With no paperwork, and no pre-qualifying evaluation, Puptown took in Hans, heart murmur and all, and treated him like a prince. As a result, I'll always be grateful to Puptown, Hans' new found home away from home for the remainder of his life. Thank you Puptown!

The professionalism and structure they bring is unmatched. They manage their facility much like a children's daycare, every dog is carefully evaluated before being welcomed into the community, vaccinations must be up to date, and safety is clearly their top priority. The facility is incredibly clean, organized, and thoughtfully run. We also love all the extras they offer. From different levels of boarding (the highest tier even includes a special tuck-in and Kong treat!) to dog training, bathing, nail trimming, and their fully engaging playrooms, complete with Dog TV, play structures, bubbles, pool days, and themed activities, it's clear they go above and beyond to make every stay fun and enriching. They even include webcams for us parents to check in on them from time to time! Our doggie Herkules absolutely LOVES his Dogtime family. It is truly his home away from home, and he gets so excited every time we pull into the parking lot. As very particular dog parents, trust means everything to us -- and there is no place we trust more than Dogtime. Tony and Krista have done an incredible job since taking over the business. The process is relatively painless, though there are lots of rules you should be aware of to keep your pet safe and the neuter process manageable. You first need to book an appt on their website and pay a $120 deposit. Be aware; spots fill up very quickly and if you cancel without more than 24 hours notice you will forfeit your deposit. You will need to fill out an intake form before the appt to make sure your pet is old enough and weighs enough beforehand (if not, you should reschedule or risk losing your $120 deposit). Day of the appointment, there's a drive through line for you to check in your pet at the designated time, a process which moves quickly. Drop off and pickup were both very easy and the directions given were clear and detailed. You will also have the option to add other services in top of the neuter/spay surgery, including some vaccines, flea protection, etc. and pay when you arrive. So important to have services like this available to the community, and I highly recommend checking out East Bay SPCA for all your spay/neuter needs!

I was a client of Dr. Budde and Alta Vista Veterinary for years. I think Dr. Budde is smart,…read moreknowledgeable, and a very capable veterinarian. I continued taking my dogs there despite the higher cost because I believed they were receiving good medical care. Appointments were almost always significantly late, but for years I gave her grace because I could see that she gave each patient her undivided attention rather than rushing. I knew I would want the same if one of my dogs were seriously ill, so I simply accepted that time had little meaning at Alta Vista. Over time, though, I became increasingly uncomfortable with her demeanor. Owners weren't allowed to accompany their pets into the exam area, and afterward Dr. Budde often discussed medical issues very loudly in the waiting room. Conversations could become lengthy lectures that felt more like being scolded than advised. She also tended to overshare about her own life, which wouldn't bother me except when everyone's appointments were already running very late. The staff also seemed progressively more unhappy. My final visit was almost a year ago. I waited to write this until my dogs were fully established elsewhere. The previous year, I had specifically pointed out a couple of tiny, temporary bumps on my dog. They would basically pop up and be gone in a couple of weeks, like a little hard pimple. Dr. Budde essentially called me a helicopter dog mom, said dogs, particularly this breed, commonly get little bumps, and told me to "calm down."(All I did was mention it during intake.) She suggested applying an Epsom salt-soaked washcloth and said unless they became larger or burst, they weren't something to worry about. A year later, my dog had one small bump at her annual exam. Based on those instructions, I didn't mention it. My appointment was at 10:00 a.m. At approximately 11:15, a tech finally took my dog into the back. Other waiting clients eventually left and rescheduled. My dog remained back there far longer than usual, and when I asked the front desk what was happening, I essentially got a shrug. Shortly after noon, Dr. Budde ARRIVED at the clinic. They took my dog into the back before the veterinarian even arrived, and she didn't show up until 2 hours after my appointment time. Instead of seeing patients immediately, Dr. Budde first had an impromptu staff discussion about the phone system, then talked about where she'd gone to dinner the night before. My dog was finally returned after being away from me for over an hour. She was agitated and whimpering, which was extremely unlike her. Dr. Budde then came out and loudly lectured me in the waiting area for not disclosing the bump, suggesting I might have been trying to save money and accusing me of neglecting it. She said she had sliced it off to examine it under the microscope without discussing that with me beforehand. She said everything she saw was fine and that she wouldn't charge for the test, although I now needed to buy ointment because the spot had been cut. While she was speaking, I looked down at my whimpering dog to see why she was upset. Dr. Budde loudly and in a very snippy voice said, "I am speaking to you. You will look at me when I speak to you, or I can just walk away." That was the moment I knew I would never return. The most frustrating part was that I had followed Dr. Budde's own advice from the previous year. I had raised these bumps as a concern and been told I was overreacting. A year later, I was publicly accused of neglect and possibly trying to save money for doing exactly what she'd told me to do. There was no apology for being more than two hours late or for my dog spending approximately an hour separated from me while we waited for the veterinarian to arrive. Ironically, she ended by telling me I was doing a good job with my dog and recommending a dental cleaning. She said a dental special was starting the following month and she "would not be mad" if I waited to save money. I paid the bill and never returned. I don't question Dr. Budde's intelligence or veterinary knowledge. That's why I stayed as long as I did despite the cost and chronic delays. But excellent medical knowledge doesn't excuse disrespectful treatment, publicly accusing clients of neglect or financial motives, contradicting previous guidance, or performing a procedure on their pet without discussing it first. I wanted excellent veterinary care, but I also needed a practice where they treated both my dogs and me with respect.
