To begin with- staff are top Notch.. when you have a sick pup and you're looking for a place to take her this is the place to be. They have an open concept floor plan that allows all the dog parents and family to be with their pet and watch everything. And I mean every procedure for every other dog too. My furbaby had to be hospitalized - so we were able to stay in a suite (couch , toothbrush etc ) to stay comfy with our sick baby. Main thing I was informed of the medical plan by the doctor and nurse and kept up to date on what was going on. You do have to pay ahead of time- and they will refund whatever is not done. It is pricey but I don't think you'll find another hospital that isn't pricey. So far - I would recommend this hospital to everyone. read more

When my dog woke up limping, I naturally was extremely concerned. However, she is an older dog, and I wasn't sure if she just jumped out of bed and landed on it funny. I called VEG to find out to get their opinion because she was showing no other signs of injury or being ill and while I want to make sure she is OK, I also didn't want to be stuck with a large bill unnecessarily. The woman I spoke to was wonderful and was able to give me very good advice as well as let me know that if payment is an issue that they have the ability to work with us on that. I called the clinic to explain my dog's health issues and drove all the way from San Mateo to San Ramon. Over the phone, I spoke with the front desk and some doctors and explained everything. When I arrived, staff seemed surprised I was there and acted dismissive, making me feel like my dog's problem wasn't important. When I saw Dr. Rosella, the billing process was confusing -- I was told the quote "covered everything," but later received a much higher bill than expected. Most concerning, they completely missed a visible eye problem that any competent vet should have noticed. The experience felt negligent and unprofessional. I do not recommend this clinic. read more

This was thee best veterinary animal emergency clinic I've ever been to. When I say from the time my family and I walked in Jessie greeted us got situated immediately after Bella came and helped us & got us to Dr. Alex G. They listened to all our worries and concerns. They immediately knew what was wrong with our French bulldog. Even showed us how to properly treat him. Everyone was just nice overall. We closed out with Kimmy she's my girl I love her humor. My husband and daughter loved the cookies they provided it was so much fun I couldn't stop saying how amazing the experience was. It worth it especially in our situation where we currently looking for a primary provider for our fur child. We will do it all over again. read more

I was recently seeking emergency vet care for my pet bunny and found VEG in San Ramon. I'm so impressed by every one of the staff. They helped make a difficult situation go smoothly. The staff was caring and compassionate. They genuinely seemed to love working at VEG and treated every pet and owner with love and care. I had called to make sure VEG took care of bunnies. When I heard they did, I brought Boba in. I was sent a link to check in. So easy. When I arrived I was impressed with the open floor plan and that they allowed owners to stay with their pets. Boba and I were shown to a room and seen by Dr Kate. She was very gentle and gave Boba a thorough exam. Boba had the beginning of GI stasis and was prescribed some supportive care until he could be seen by his vet in the morning. She was honest about the cost of receiving emergency care which I appreciated and offered several treatment plans. Boba has since made a full recovery. It gives me great peace of mind that VEG is available 24/7 should Boba ever require emergency care! Highly recommend. read more

Sad day for us yesterday (Sunday March 8) when our beloved cat just could no longer walk at all. Being 19 yrs old, we knew it was the end and he was not going to get better. We figured neurological or vascular issues beyond repair at this point, we saw it coming 4 months ago, slowly progressed until BAM, no back leg movement at all Saturday night. Sunday morning it had progressed so much.more we knew it was time, he was an old guy (about 92 our age). Took him in to be euthanized....so sad. The people at veg were great, treated us with respect as well as our beloved cat. We requested to be with him until he passed. They informed us of what was happening every step of the way. Could not ask for more from this group. They put us in a private room to deal with this issue. Kind, efficient, and allowed us to walk in without appointment which allowed us to bring him in after we got a chance to stay with at home first for a few hours. Hate what happened but these people at VEG are outstanding and made it the best experience one could hope for all things considered. Great to deal with and reasonably priced. Thank you for your kind service and look forward to getting his ashes back to spread in our yard which he loved so much. read more

Definitely one of the best hospital visits we had as pet owners. We did our research and asked our network the best ER for pets. A couple folks recommended VEG in San Ramon - it was a bit of a drive and it does cost a little more than other spots, but our dog was struggling to walk and seemed in pain. I'm glad we came here! We were treated with respect and I love how we stayed with our dog the entire 2.5 hours. Parking is plentiful. Upon walking in, a worker greeted us and asked some basic questions. Within 10 minutes, we saw a vet and she checked my dog. She then gave some options on what tests we could do. The vet tech then went over the bill with us. I like how there's full transparency here and how much things cost. My dog did an xray, blood test, and got some pain injection. Although the wait between the vet discussion and when my dog actually got his work done took over an hour, we were able to wait with our dog the entire time. The staff was super friendly and helpful! I could tell they love animals - they were super sweet to our chihuahua mix! I just wished the vet explained what happened to our dog in more details, it was a quick explanation that took less than a minute. We listened to what the vet said and our dog healed in a week. He was up and walking and able to almost go about his normal routine. I love how they offer complimentary coffee/tea and cookies. We'll be back in case anything goes south in the future! read more

My little walking disaster of a cat has brought me here enough times that I feel more than qualified to share a review. An emergency vet visit is never fun, but the peace of mind I get knowing VEG has consistently taken great care of my cat is invaluable. I don't live too far away in Hayward (~20 minutes), but it is worth the drive every time knowing I'll be in good hands. Even in stressful situations, their friendly staff do their best to make the experience as pleasant as possible. As someone who has visited multiple times, my pro tips are to (1) call in ahead of time to get an idea for the wait (this won't necessarily speed things up if they are busy, but will allow you to plan accordingly), and (2) bring some form of entertainment (and your phone charger), as wait times can be long depending on their caseload. I say that not as a slight to VEG, but just the reality of an ER prioritizing care where it's needed most. They're attentive when immediate help is required, though, and do their best to get to you quickly. As for pricing, while I don't have a ton of experience with emergency pet care, I know it's never cheap. That said, VEG's prices have always felt fair for the quality of care and attention they provide. They've even sent us home with low-cost freebies like Pill Pockets, which reinforces my sense that they genuinely care about pets and their people, and not about nickel-and-diming. I wish that I would have known about this emergency vet a lot sooner. While we didn't get the outcome that we were hoping for, all of the doctors and staff were extremely pleasant and provided excellent care for my dog. I love the set up and how the doctors ensure that they talk to you throughout the process, you're able to be near your pet in the triage area and not wonder what is going on. There is also a waiting room if it's too chaotic. We ended up having to put our dog to sleep and the staff provided great support. They answered all of our questions, ran several tests; exams, etc. prior to us doing so. We were given time and privacy to be with our dog before he had to be put to sleep. Recommended by my sister, I brought my 16 year old fur baby here to rest after a battle with kidney disease. I was not ready to say goodbye - who really is? However, it was time to help her cross the rainbow bridge and to end any suffering she was going through on her final days. Being that it was on a weekend, the vet office she had been going to for the past month was not open and her next appointment was going to be on a Wednesday. I felt like that would have been too long of a time as her health had been depleting. Luckily, VEG was nearby and offered 24/7 care. We called ahead of time and came in on a Sunday. There were already quite a few clients in-house already. It is an open floor office where there are multiple tables for clientele and a couple private rooms for other appointments such as the one I was there for. They also were treating larger animals on the floor I think if the tables were filled or because the pet was too big to place on top of the table. In the private room, they gave us all the time we needed prior to saying goodbye. I thought it was just a check-up room, but I later realized it was a room where they did this type of procedure. The artwork on the walls, the book where you could leave a memoir of your fur baby, the chocolate kisses... The team was very professional, kind, and empathetic. I felt like she was in comfortable care. I did not realize just how quickly of a procedure it was until seconds after noticing I couldn't see her breathing anymore. They helped us throughout the entire process, never rushed us, made sure we were ready, had all of our questions answered, made sure she was safe. They also gave us a little potted succulent plant in memory of her. There is ample parking inside of a private shopping center lot shared amongst several other businesses in San Ramon. We came in knowing we were more than likely going to have to put my daughter's animal down. The staff treated us with tremendous respect, gave my daughter hugs, offered us refreshments and let us sit by her pet as long as we needed. Our dog received a bite on his ear from another dog. It was a Saturday, so we took him to VEG in San Ramon. We were told he would need some stitches and that they would call us. When we went back, the tech, not the vet, brought him out to us. He had a plastic collar on, which was covered in blood, his ear was still actively dripping blood, his fur was covered in blood, and top it all off, they had decided to trim his front claws and one or two of them were dripping blood as well! The vet came back out and could not explain why they thought he was even remotely ready to be delivered back to us in this condition. She didn't seem to have a clue in general. It was another couple hours before we were summoned to come back for a third time that night to pick him up. We didn't take him in for a heart transplant ... it should have been a routine visit for a couple of stitches and they couldn't have bungled it worse, and turned it into an even worse experience for our poor dog and for us. Oh, and it was over $1700 for the experience, by the way. read more

I was fostering a stray kitten for a few days when it suddenly took a turn for the worst. I foster with much love but not much in terms of financial resources. It was very clear this baby needed emergency care. I called several local emergency vets which all advised that his needed assessment and care would easily cost more than I'm able to pay. I was referred to Veterinary Emergency Group in San Ramon by another provider. After a brief explanation of the kittens symptoms, the receptionist forwarded me directly to a doctor. She reassured that the kitten's care was of primary importance and that I should bring him in regardless of how much I can pay. On arrival, the kitten was sadly nearing end of life. The staff were all very efficient, empathetic, and professional the moment I walked in. After assessing the kitten, the staff very quickly and clearly provided all options, considering the kitten's needs as well as mine. Considering the totality of circumstances, we agreed euthanasia was the most humane option. I was offered to remain present during the procedure to support the kitten's passing which demonstrated their empathy. They worked with great skill while also being supportive of my thoughts and feelings throughout the procedure and afterwards. Although this was a very traumatic experience for me, the staff at VEG could not have done a better job or been more understanding. When remembering the loss of this kitten, I will also be reminded of the high standard of care VEG provided and will be forever grateful. I hope to never need emergency vet services in the future, but if I do, I will not hesitate when thinking of where to go. I've been here several times for different reasons. I have 5 dogs so there are times when I need a place that is open 24 hours and would calm my anxiety if we could find out what's going on right away. I like that you can call in to let them know you are coming ( pre check in). At first I didn't know how I felt about seeing everything happening with other pets but then I thought about the many times I wish I knew where my regular vet is taking my dog to during regular check ups. So I feel this is a benefit for those that wants to hold their pet when they are getting checked, shots, IV etc. And if you can't handle it, you can always stay in the other room or leave your pet there. I just feel like it helps my anxiety and fears in a sense that I don't make up my own prognosis. I am constantly updated and not forgotten. They can be busy in the evening or weekends (just an FYI) but the times I've been there when it's busy we still are seen. You can stay with your pet! So if your pet needs you to be there overnight...you can stay with them. So for me this all works completely. I also had another friend who needed emergency surgery for their dog and it was done and the dog lives! I've been here for my dog Kahlua who has seizures, my dog Luna who had an allergic reaction to something, my sister dogs Lilikoi and Maitai had their spayed stitches looked at. I came back recently November 2024 for my pet Lilikoi who was vomiting, not eating and crying over stomach pain - they got to the problem within hours after checking off other possible issues. Thanks Dr. Alex & team! Don't hesitate to come here and be a part of holding your fur love paws while they get check. I see them constantly clean, communicate with each other, its like everyone has everyone covered. The bathrooms are spotless. The front desk even ask if I needed water or a more comfortable chair. In their semi wait room they have things that kids can play with so you know they think about families coming all together for their beloved fur animal. We called on a Sunday night after checking the vet emergency clinic in San Leandro, who had a four hour wait time. The team at VEG was amazing from the beginning. We were able to speak to a Dr on the phone before coming, and once we arrived, we were immediately led to an exam room. While we waited with our kitty, we were offered coffee and water which was just what we needed at 10pm. The vet saw our kitty within 20 minutes of being there, was very open, friendly and had advice and medicine for us immediately. We were in and out in 45 minutes, paid a very reasonable fee and left with some treatment options until our appt with our regular vet. Today our kitty is already doing much better and seems on her way to healing. Could not have asked for a better experience at an Emergency vet! Highly recommend! read more

We come here for all of our emergency pet needs. Dog, birds and in this case a lizard. Yesterday my sons bearded dragon ate a piece of broccoli that was too big. It got lodged in it's throat. But that didn't slow down Fluffy. He packed in another piece of broccoli and a couple worms as well. I looked at him, tried to get into his mouth, and decided it was better to let someone who knows what they are doing take care of this. So we packed up fluffy and went to VEG. My son was very worried and stressed out. We walked in and the woman working intake immediately took me to a table worried it might impact Fluffys breathing. They two vets immediately cleared the obstruction in less than 5 minutes. The entire time Dr Donner was talking to my son and putting him at ease. The staff were very responsive and kind. They didn't even charge us. I really like this place. read more

We are extremely grateful that VEG exists and is available 24/7. Our dog went here a few times before for minor health scares and would often leave with hope and healing. This last time was different. Unfortunately, our beloved dog, Nikki, was showing signs of her declining health. She did not express any pain, but there was some struggle. We took her to the regular vet and she was given some medication to help, but Nikki had accepted the reality of her soon passing. We woke up yesterday 10/11/2024 with her not acting like herself. I think she had a stroke and seizure. She took her final breath in the arms of my husband. We truly thought we had a few more days with her. We were blessed with her loving presence for 14 years and 5 months. In a panic, I tried calling a few places for aftercare. It was early in the morning so most places were closed. I called VEG and was thankful to speak with Jessie. She was kind and patient from the start. She told me they offer aftercare and proceeded to explain the details. Once I agreed to it, as a family, we brought her there. We were greeted by Jessie upon arrival and she guided us to a back private room to say our final goodbyes. It was a nice small room themed for grief. She gave us the time we needed. It was a seamless process. When she returned, we discussed our options for private cremation, Nikki's urn, clay paw print mold, and a memento of her beautiful fur. Pricing was reasonable and fair. She also gifted us a cute mini succulent on our way out. We felt Nikki's body to be in great care. We are deeply saddened by Nikki's passing, but thankful VEG Staff was available and ready to receive her at any time. Their outstanding customer service at this difficult time really made a positive difference. If you are seeking compassionate care in any time of need, VEG must be your first option. They promptly answer calls and any questions. They are highly recommended and will do all they can for the best outcome. They have a big waiting room with the best cookies. Took our 8 year old puppy to VEG at 3am, because of bloody stool. He ended up staying for 2 days, with IV's and an ultrasound. He is now, FINE...you'd never know, other than his shaved spots. The staff was so sweet, and attentive. They are all so informative, so you always know what's happening. Loved being able to always be with him. read more

Our experience was mostly amazing! I want to preface all this by saying that the medical team did everything they could with the information they had, and did the best they could to take care of my dog. We brought our dog in on 5/7 because he seemed uncomfortable after episodes of vomiting. After an x-ray, the doctor let us know they saw a large mass. I asked if it could be his cystic kidneys which she couldn't confirm, but offered an ultrasound, which is fair. It did end up being his kidneys which we knew about, but were glad it wasn't cancerous. The doctor informed us of options, sent us home with meds for vomiting, and provided a list of specialists. On 5/9 my dog began having diarrhea every 30 minutes. When I called after it had been happening for a couple of hours, the (different) doctor didn't seem concerned and said it should go away in 3-5 days. The next day we called again because the diarrhea hadn't stopped all night and at this point, my dog's breathing rate was 48-52/m. The (another different) doctor on the phone advised us to walk in. They ran some tests again and took another X-ray. The doctor said we couldn't be sure if his kidneys were causing it. She gave us the option of subcutaneous fluids with a fair warning that it could put our dog into heart failure given his heart condition or (now this is where my partner and I got pretty traumatized...) that we might have to think about making a difficult decision. I asked if fluids seemed like the best option given his dehydration and she agreed. He got his fluids, zofran, and we were sent home with an appetite stimulant and probiotic. After being told we might have to make a difficult decision, my partner and I couldn't shake the possibility that our dog might not make it. We have been bawling for days. Then, our dog began having persistent diarrhea again. We understand it can be normal after stressful visits, but we saw blood and the discharge instructions did say to seek care if that happened. We called IronHorse because that was on the list of specialists VEG gave us, but they told us they actually didn't have internal medicine and referred us to SAGE Dublin instead. That is when we found relief. SAGE Dublin asked us more questions about our dog's history and after careful review of his history and taking a look at him, they did not see a dog that should be put to rest. The doctor actually said his heart sounds pretty much the same as what's noted in his last cardiology appt. She said we could do another blood test and ultrasound, but she really didn't find it necessary because he seemed to be getting better in her opinion. We were offered a diarrhea sample test, carvacrol, and a diarrhea antibiotic which were options that were not presented to us at VEG. They also called to check on us the next day! Our dog is getting better and better and I can't imagine how we would be right now if we decided to lay him to rest at VEG that day... again, I do not blame anyone at VEG at all. I know they also played a huge part in our dog's recovery! Everyone was great and informative, but after the trauma of being presented with the option of making a difficult decision, I just can't 100% say that I would seek care at VEG again. However, I'm glad to have had this experience as it helped my partner and I have plans for emergencies, and taught us the value of getting a second opinion. read more

Took my 11 year old bunny (experiencing symptoms of GI stasis i.e. not pooping, peeing herself, no appetite, fatigue, teeth grinding) to VEG after calling multiple vet and emergency clinics in the East Bay and being turned away. They immediately said they accepted rabbits and to come right in. The Dr and staff were great and very friendly to us and my bunny. It's been a month and she's doing much better! She is now back to business as usual, terrorizing her two cat brothers lol. Total cost was ~$500 including antibiotics, IV fluids, and pain medication (no diagnostic testing). read more

Sadly, I have been to VEG on numerous occasions, and I've never thought to write a review on yelp. Unfortunately, my cat Molly had not been feeling too well, and our original vet was unable to perform additional tests in a timely manner, so we decided to take her to VEG this past Friday as I knew we would get the answers we needed. Doctor Calderon and Dr. Schaefer were amazing, along with all of the nurses. The staff asked us on numerous occasions, if we wanted water, tea, coffee, cookies, anything, and always checked in on us. I really liked how Dr. Schaefer sat with us and explained the ultrasound findings, and explained what he was looking at so we were able to thoroughly understand what was going on with our kitty. The very next day, Dr Calderon called me to check in on Molly and to go over the additional test results that came in and explained everything to me in detail. Thankfully, our girl is doing well and much better. Regardless of if we have gone for non-life-threatening to sadly, life-threatening illnesses, we've always been treated so well there. The front desk is always so welcoming and hospitable, and all the doctors have always been great. I had never been here before but had an emergency with my conure so I needed to find somewhere asap. I saw a few reviews mentioning they had avian vets so I called them while on the road, they took my info and said I could come right in. When I got there they had me in a room within five minutes. Some nurses came in right away and checked over my bird, within another five minutes a doctor was in the room. Dr. Donner was the vet who helped my bird, she was very thorough in her examination and also made it a point to explain things to me as she went along. I came back a 2nd time and was EXTREMELY disappointed. To treat a high fever, they started with a several *thousand* dollar estimate, which I then had to negotiate down to something reasonable, which would actually HELP. $2,000 of diagnostics does nothing toward helping my cat get better. The VEG itemized charge for appetite stimulant was $111 for a tiny tube. I said, "I don't think I need that. As soon as the fever comes down some, he'll want to eat, just like a human." The vet got angry and insisted on selling it. (Is she on commission??) I should've said NO. After all that, I ended up using one dose because as soon as the fever lessened, surprise surprise, he started eating normally. One dose for $111, more than a whole week's worth of antibiotics! For the sub-cutaneous fluids (found online for $10), VEG charges $60/bag. And the vet didn't look at me or say Hello when she walked up and then after sending the order (via her computer 8' away), she didn't come back to wrap-up or say Goodbye. The intake receptionist was good but the considerable (8 people!?) staff on the floor, rather than attentive to patients, patient 'parents' or work, were all hanging out in a cluster, fanning themselves and gabbing about movies and parties, while a woman, 15' away, sat sobbing on the floor of a cage beside her dying dog. It was the OPPOSITE of my last experience. I will not go back to unreasonably high priced and unnecessary diagnostics place, with customer care a far, distant 2nd. read more

Oh. My. God. I am ETERNALLY GRATEFUL to these folks for helping me the other night. I came home from a long day to find my cat in distress, drooling, gagging, meowing and I panicked!! I Googled the first clinic close to me and rushed there and then had a horrible experience. They wouldn't treat her until I forked over almost $1800!! After being faced with basically no choice but to leave without treatment except some pain meds the nurse there told me about VEG on the way to my car. THANK GOD she told me otherwise I wouldn't have known about this wonderful place. I immediately drove there and was greeted warmly, at 1:30 am. They did an assessment and said they would do X-rays and sedation and see what was up. During the exam they found a rotting tooth and removed it. They brought my unconscious baby to me and let me hold her while she woke up. I left at 5:30 am with meds and wet food, and they worked with me financially. I can't overstate my gratitude for the entire experience. The entire staff was stellar. I am so happy I know about this place now. Cleopatra and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. She is recovering well and she has been expressing her gratitude to her mom for taking the pain away, purring and head butting me a lot (maybe it's the pain meds too ). ============++++++============== Additional note two days later: I spaced and didn't refrigerate my meds!!! This is such a wonderful place to take your pet for any emergency needs. My cat was dealing with some GI issues, and I initially took her to an emergency vet that was going to take 4-5 hours to even touch her. A coworker of mine recommended VEG, so I called to see if there would be a wait time. They told me to come on in and sent me a check in text before I even left the first facility. I arrived and was amazed at their open concept. Very clean with super kind and upbeat staff. They took my cat in with a veterinarian within minutes. Once she got her bloodwork and x rays, she was put in a cage for additional monitoring and I could walk up to her and pet her as much as I wanted while we waited. I've always been used to ER vets just taking my cats in the back and having no updates for hours on end. Dr. To and nurse Julia were so sweet and helpful, and really settled my nerves. They were attentive and were thorough with medication instruction. It was a long day, but I'm glad to say my cat is as good as new, and I owe it to VEG. Keep up the great work! read more
