The practice has recently undergone new ownership and I love the changes and implementation of modern medicine and technology. I called in to bring my cat in to get evaluated for an URI & get antibiotics. Unfortunately, the regular vet Dr. Downes was not in. Instead it was Dr. Harinder Judge was the vet for that day. I hope he never takes this practice over because I will go elsewhere! The vet tech asked me the typical questions, she typed it all in then here comes the vet. He barely examined my cat, did NOT read the notes that were taken by the vet tech. We discussed possible chest xray, he suggested labs then giving antibiotics. When the vet tech came in with the "estimate" it was $1600. There was stuff on the estimate we never discussed! Long story short, he refused to do just one xray of her chest...he said "it's all or nothing." Then proceeded to say, "I'm not playing this game of let's shoot one xray just to go back & shot another." You only need one chest xray to see if pneumonia is present, not 3! I never asked for 3 lab panels, nor did we discuss it. Dr. Judge was extremely rude & disrespectful and is clearly ONLY money driven! I will ONLY take my cats there when Dr. Downes is there! "A Kindly Man with Kindly Staff." We have patronized this business for quite a few years, mostly for our border collie, but occasionally for our cats. Mostly, my wife takes the pets in, but today I came along. I was very impressed with both the doctor as well as his staff. They are really friendly, caring people. We have found Dr Downes to be an excellent veterinarian. He is very confident, thorough, and pleasant to deal with. Dealings with the front office have gone smoothly--no complaints at all. Today we needed an urgent appointment for one of our cats who was quite ill. They managed to fit us in the very same day. We are most appreciative of that. I think they even kept the staff late for our visit. The doctor gave our cat a very thorough examination and took blood for testing, as well as took some X-rays. We were very pleased with his conscientiousness. He was also very clear in explaining what he was looking for, and the various problems that can happen with older cats. He also explained the cost for the various procedures. Yes, it is fairly expensive, but no more so than I expected. It's true, things are expensive in the Bay Area. For our cat, Hollie, it looks like she has pancreatitis. This is sort of a tough prognosis, but we are confident that she is in good hands. read more

Dr. Downs and the assistants here are just the best. We have been put through the ringer trying to find an honest, experienced vet for our cat. If it wasn't for my mom who had a million pets that she took here over the years, we would still be looking for the right Vet. I feel so confident after our first visit that Dr. Downs could help us with our millennial cat who allegedly was allergic to everything under the sun including us, not kidding. We actually had a vet tell us we needed to exfoliate and shower more to avoid human dander. We have paid for so much blood work, had allergies shots made custom to him, have him on a raw diet (gluten free, only beef and lamb etc.) and he was constantly still having issues. We felt so defeated prior to coming here and had just settled with the fact we have a very expensive cat who will always be uncomfortable, which just broke our hearts. Dr. Downs took so much time to understand our 3 year old cats long health history and pulled previous records from other offices. His honestly, his experience with pet allergies and his process of elimination instilled so much trust in us. While we know Gustavos issues won't be solved overnight, we know we are in the best hands now. I'm surprised I've never written a review for Dr. Downs and his staff. I pretty much have a farm of animals, all of which Dr. Downs has been seeing since they were young. A few years ago, I lost my first dog to cancer after giving her another year of life. Just yesterday I had to say goodbye to my longest friend, Jersey, and I have to say that I'm very thankful to have Dr. Downs and his staff be the ones to break the news and say goodbye to my first kitty. One of the techs even gave me a really cute, handmade angel kitty keychain that I've already attached. Such a small gesture means a lot when saying goodbye to your best friend. There were hugs and tears shared as well. Through the years, Dr. Downs has been reliable and trustworthy. Even now that I live in Oakland, I will drive to All Creatures because I know the staff truly cares about the well being of my pet, not just the charge at the end of the visit. I found Dr. Downs when Jersey was only a few years old, after moving to the Bay from San Diego, and a vet in San Ramon told me I had to amputate my kitty's leg just because it was broken. Dr. Downs not only fixed Jersey's leg, but there were zero problems the remaining 10+ years of his long life. My household still has 5 dogs and 1 cat and when a problem arises, they will all see Dr. Downs. It's, unfortunately, very hard to find a trustworthy vet. A 25 minute commute is nothing compared to the level of service and peace of mind I get from this vet clinic. Each one of its staff was amazingly supportive & loving to my dog, I was soooo touched. Best veterinary hospital beside the one I used to go to in San Diego, which was big with 5 vets & superb but not as good as Dr. Downes 1-doctor office. Most impressive thing was that entire office visit was designed to make its patients' comfort in mind. I usually dread vet's mean looking guys/gals almost dragging my dog to the back room/lab for testing or shots. Not at Dr Downes office; each shots & every test (blood drawing too, which was a bit nerve wrecking for me but still better than done in the back where I can't see what is going on, sigh). My dog's lab result was done within 24 hours & Dr Downes called to discuss the recommendation & referrals promptly. How awesome is that?! I love this office very much. I have been coming to see Dr. Downes for about 7 years and he has been such a wonderful doctor. I drive about 45 minutes to still come out and see him, and he's very understanding when I can't make it in right away. His staff is awesome and I enjoy my visits with them every time. And of course, who can forget Nala and Eddie, the house cats. I've watched them grow up since they got them as kittens, and they are such a pleasure to visit with while I'm waitig. I've been taking my dogs here for almost 3 years and have liked the services until I got my dog neutered for almost $700 then told the price last minute. I then recently took my dog for a rash hair loss he was a mess , they gave him antibiotics and steroid shot for another $300 for it to not clear up had another follow up appointment missed it because of being in the hospital charged a $79 missing appointment fee! When I'm a regular and always take my dog I got sick ! sorry for taking precautions and not exposing staff . Took my dog to a new vet found out my dog has a skin infection and was misdiagnosed !! Got all the needed treatment for less what they charge and so much better care! Don't recommend this place at all much better places to go to!! I switched both my dogs not ever coming back to this place. This place is so money hungry now definitely went down hill . I should also add that they gave my dog the wrong medication and I got a call a few hours later to come back and grab the correct one. read more

She is just the nicest person to deal with (esp when you are in high stress from a sick pet). I'm very grateful to have discovered Dr. Downes. I actually learned of him walking down the street in SF after bumping into a couple walking their Shar Pei. I happened to ask who their vet is and they told me about All Creatures. Dr. Downes was able to examine my dog when SPCA and another vet in Pacifica could not. She has a LOT of trauma because of chronic ear infections, so I am grateful that I found someone who knows how to work with her (and me!). They are VERY responsive and accommodating. I tried to find a vet in San Francisco, but there just isn't one better than Dr. Downes and his staff. It is worth it to spend the time and money driving to Dublin. So glad I switched our two Shar-pei's to Dr. Dan. Our prior vet was unable to resolve our two pei's ear problems. They had said they had non-stop, re-occurring ear infections for like 8 months and they weren't even a year old at the time. No sooner did I finish the medicine and go in for a recheck and they still had an infection. They even had to sedate them with special medicine for 4 weeks for cleaning and that worked but then they had a different infection. Then they sent me to dermatologist for their ears who did nothing but give more useless ear medicine, told me they had skin infections when I never went there for that, which their coats were fine, and then told me to put them on rabbit food. I was so upset (in tears) and had no solutions. I then decided to research other vets. I googled Shar-pei vets and found All Creatures Vet in Dublin. Dr. Dan is amazing. He is so nice and so is his staff. He is also reasonable. He specializes in Shar-pei's. He recommended a medication for their ears that goes in once a week and then eventually 10-14 days. My pei's ears are fine. He doesn't even make money off the prescriptions. I work directly with the pharmacy and they ship it. He fixed both pei's eye entropion as my prior vet did not do that type of surgery. Also, I was able to come in with my dogs and be in the room with them which I was not able to do at the Martinez vet. I am just so happy I found All Creatures Vet in Dublin. Dr. Dan is a great veterinary. He is honest and spends the time with you and your dog. I highly recommend him for your fur babies. read more

We wouldn't trust anyone else with the care of our dog Bruna because the staff is not only really attentive to her needs, they truly care about our baby! I have never experienced a veterinarian calling so often to check on my dog's wellbeing. My own doctor doesn't call that much! I would also urge people to sign up for insurance because it really makes it affordable to go to the vet. Again you should go to this vet because he is truly the best with them! I have been having problems with finding a eye specialist for entropion that had been exaggerated by other ophthalmologists trying to rush a surgery that could've waited and maybe didn't even need intervention. His front staff is very friendly when calling me to remind me of appointments and are flexible when I have to cancel. I travel from Reno to see him. Worth the 4 hour drive. read more

I give them two stars because my daughter says that the veterinarian was kind and helpful. However the front desk staff have subtracted three stars from the place due to their distemper and poor treatment of my twenty year old daughter who was there to have her new kitten checked out. From all accounts the old ladies at the desk were rude and mean to Kate and offered completely unsolicited opinions regarding her choices and the care of our new kitten - who is lucky to be alive as we adopted her from a shelter, by the way, and lives with us and our other cat. Yet another example of American hospitality. I'm sick to death of dealing with grumpy-ass people who have no business working with the public. We won't be back. Very disappointing, really, since Tara, the kitten, is doing better already based upon the treatments suggested by the vet. read more

We travel from Mountain View to Dublin for the outstanding care given by Dr. Downes. He takes his time, is thorough and explains everything. Additionally, the prices are very reasonable compared to other vets in my area, i.e. Adobe Animal Hospital, Banfield, & VMA in San Mateo. Dr. Downes always suggests the "best treatment for my dollar". No unnecessary tests or procedures. Most importantly, he knows Shar Peis. My dogs were constantly being misdiagnosed because the other vets know generalities, not specific illnesses associated with this breed. It is well worth the time to travel to Dublin. I don't see how this vet can get negative ratings! Dr. Downes is an incredible veterinarian, and I mean, absolutely incredible. He's down to earth, honest, isn't out to steal your money and truly cares about your animals. His staff is friendly and always willing to help. They obviously care and love your pets and care about US, their customers! I can see how some would get the wrong idea about Dr. Downes, as he is very blunt and more than likely that just rubs some people the wrong way. I've never got any type of condescending behavior from him. When I first met the Doctor I can say he seemed abrasive to me, but once you've visited a few times his personality makes sense. This is the type of vet you want to help your animals. He isn't going to sugar coat anything and while he isn't the sweetest person to deal with, he is very nice and understands where US pet owners are coming from. He won't do any unnecessary testing, he cares about your pets stress level and tries to make them as comfortable as possible. If he can save you funds while making or keeping your pet healthy, he will do it. : ) I trust him completely with my Pei! Traveling to Dublin is well worth the trip. I've had a much different experience at All Creatures than many of the others listed here. I was not impressed by Dr Downes manner and think he can be very condescending. About 2 years ago I was going to take my pets to another place but his staff - a couple of people who we really respected for their love of animals - convinced us that things would get better and we noticed a marked change in DDownes bedside manner. But we find him virtually rolling his eyes when we don't immediately follow his recommendations. I don't care that the facilities are not top notch but I expect the care to be. Well we just took our little 5 year + old rescued terrier to DR. Downes today and we were very happy. First you should know that we picked DR.Downes because of his education and years of practice and I was even happier to realize that he keeps up on the latest in veterinarian medicine. He was kind and far warmer than I expected given some of the reviews. I'm happy to leave my dog in his care. I felt like he was honest and didn't try to sign my aging pup up for everything under the sun. Our family is filled with vets so picking a vet where I live can be a challenge and up for debate. He passed the whole committee's vote it helps he graduated from UC Davis. DR.Downes starts with the least invasive plan and then builds from there. Our dog really liked him which says a lot because he doesn't like most men. The office is simple but I like how that affects my cost. My dog liked that he takes temperatures by an EAR thermometer. That's upgraded enough for us. Oh and they have specials for Monday thru Thursday appt's. read more

We just moved and adopted a dog so we were looking for a local vet. Dublin had many vet hospitals but not many smaller clinics. We really like that All Creatures is a small practice, we can see the same vet each time and get consistent care (we had an awful experience at a large multi-doctor clinic getting passed around with conflicting diagnosis). The All Creatures staff was very friendly and helpful and you can tell how much they LOVE animals. The vet was very real with us in what to expect with our new lab puppy and made many recommendations, but he was not pushy and even recommended some cost saving options, which is wonderful! This is NOT an emergency vet hospital (although they do offer full care). They are not open 24 hours a day and are not set-up to take emergency cases from non-clients. If you walk in the door with an emergency they will help you, but they are not going to drop their regular clients (who made appointments) to focus on you. (There were some impatient women waiting with an emergency when we were their, complaining about the service-NOT THE VETS FAULT!!!) The only draw back is that they have one waiting room (no separation of cats and dog) and they have 2 office cats so if you have an aggressive dog/cat you might want to make arrangements to go strait to an exam room. read more

We made the trip to All Creatures for 6 years so that Dr. Downes could care for our sharpei August. It didn't matter where we lived or how far the drive was, I knew that our guy was in the best hands with Dr. Downes and his staff. As many have posted, the sharpei is a special breed. They can have many health issues, allergies, etc. I was so glad that I found All Creatures as they know this breed in and out. Katie herself has owned many sharpei and if she has to show any dog who is boss she will gladly do so with care. Dr. Downes has seen our August through many health issues and to his final days just this past month when he fell really ill. We had some tough decisions to make but Dr. Downes talked us through the options and lastly, what he felt was best for his patient, not us, but our dog. I wouldn't change a thing. We'd drive through fire and ice to get our dog the best care. We received a letter in the mail today stating that All Creatures made a donation to the 'Companion Animal Memory Foundation' at UC Davis School of Veterinary in honor of our August. This supports the studies of health issues in domestic animals. This was such a touching gesture and goes to show that Dr. Downes and the team there truly do care for our pets regardless if they are here on earth or gone on to the rainbow bridge. They were charging $30 for just a basic nail trim during this time of Shelter in Place AND they fail to inform me that there will be an additional $70 fee for examination that they need to do before any service can be done on my dog. Ridicious! I highly do not recommend coming here. I should have listen to the other yelp reviewers regarding the front desk attitude. I hope you will too. Dr Downes was quite thorough in our initial visit with our new Pup-pei. Even though we are not new to owning Sharpei, Dr Downes still took the time to explain his concerns as well as share information about FSF and new health information regarding the Sharpei. He also expressed that he will only do surgeries if it will help the dog live a healthier life and not for cosmetic reasons. No unnecessary surgeries ever. This was quite reassuring to know as some believe Sharpei to be cash cows for their Vet practice. The staff was really nice and helpful. Easily approachable and answered any of our questions or concerns. The 40 minute drive from the East Bay was well worth it for our Pup-pei to receive excellent care. It's nice not having to explain things about a Sharpei to a Vet. The only issue we had was finding the place amongst all the mini-mall-plazas! read more

Dr. Downes cared for my shar pei's until last year when we had to put the last one down at the age of 14 due to cancer. I drove all the way from south San Jose to get the best care I could find. Dr Downes is very knowledgeable and caring. I consider him an expert on Shar peis and their diseases. I found him to be very through and honest. Dublin is fortunate to have such a great veternarian in their town. I wish he were in San Jose. I originally went to him with a very sick Shar Pei. He was very kind and supportive. The staff was great too. I always found them to be warm, caring and supportive. Having an animal that you love with multiple health problems can be heartbreaking.
