My last experience with them…read moreleft me with an extremely bad taste in my mouth, so much so that I swore I'd never go back to them. However, my big boy Chomper is 12+, and last January I noticed he was really struggling to do normal things. I changed his routine and started hand-making his food, and he instantly got better. But having had another dog who was the same mixed breed and who showed the same signs towards the end of life, I knew Chomper's time was limited. Then last week he had a bad morning, and seeing he was in pain, I relented and called Groveway hoping that they'd just prescribe him some medication for pain management. I was able to bring him in that same day, and of course the first thing he does is urinate all over their waiting room floor like he had never whizzed in his life (and I JUST let him relieve himself outside beforehand). I apologized and offered to clean it up, but the receiption staff and another staff member quickly began to clean it up without hesitation and reassured me that it was ok. We entered into the examination room, and from the very beginning vet tech Stella was kind, polite and asked poignant quesitons. Soon after Dr. Powell came in, and she was equally kind, polite and wanting to help my boy. Dr. Powell was wonderful - she was compassionate and at the same time willing to have the difficult conversations. We decided on bloodwork that would take about 30 mins or so. Needing a urine sample, Stella escorted us outside to the back area with room to roam and a bench to sit at. After getting the sample, Stella made every effort to make sure my boy was comfortable - she invited us to stay in the backyard to enjoy the fresh air and sun, she brought out a blanket for Chompet to lie on, and she brought both of us water as well. Needless to say, after my last experience with Groveway, I was hesitant to contact them thinking that they might somehow try to hustle me again. I am so glad that I called them. The staff there were nothing but professional and courteous. Stella was accommodating and loved on my boy like he was her own dog. And Dr. Powell's compassion and willingness to help was nothing short of amazing. We didn't get the results we wanted, and that's just part of a dog getting old. But we have another checkup scheduled in a month, and I'm looking forward to the staff at Groveway spoling my Chomper again.

Dr Powell is an amazing, compassionate, kind, and incredibly well rounded veterinarian. She has great bedside manner and is always friendly and personable. She is always honest and straightforward with me, which I genuinely appreciate. Whenever she explains something to me, she does so in a way that is easy to understand. She is always patient with me and my questions, which I truly do appreciate. The technicians and rest of the staff are amazing as well. They are incredibly skilled and always go above and beyond with my pets care. Whenever I've had to drop off my cats for a procedure, they always assure me that they will do their best to provide great care. And during pick ups, they always share that they gave lots of pets and cuddles to my cats. The staff here genuinely do go above and beyond all the time. They do their best to provide great care, great customer service, and have all around great energy. Groveway is the vet hospital that I trust completely with my pets. Not only do I trust them with my own pets (Levi & Papi), I've brought in a couple of community/stray cats (Cottonball & Charlie) to them. Dr Powell and her team gave them excellent care as well and were so kind. Anytime Dr Powell and her team recommend something, I always tell them to please do what they recommend. I trust them 100% with my pets care. If you're looking for a pet hospital that gives amazing care, great customer service, and has great energy - I highly recommend Groveway. They arranged to make the house call that very day. I never felt rushed or pressured. Dr. Williams even recommended someone closer to us if needed. Then when they arrived at the set time, our buddy had already passed. Nevertheless, Dr. Williams gave my wife a hug on arrival, then another one for me and was extremely patient with us as we went through the paperwork needed. Then as they took him away, Dr. Williams again gave us a much needed hug. That personal touch was very warm and unexpected. Just thinking about it again makes me tear up. I've been waiting to do this review for a long time. It's been a year since my dog passed. And…read moreit's been very difficult to cope with. I didn't have the emotional strength to relive my experience. I still mourn him. Before his first assessment for treatment, knew my dog had a heart murmur. But because he was fine and showed no serious symptoms, I prolonged taking him to the vet. The time I decided to do so, i would travel one hour to this vet because I wanted him to have the best care and so I thought. On his first visit, they kept him for a few hours to do tests. When I got him back he was not the same. He all of a sudden to started to have fainting symptoms daily. He would collapse to the floor. I would rush him outside for first aid and sometimes give him mouth to mouth. It was scary. From that day forward his health went progressively down as he grew weaker and weaker. And the bills just got bigger and bigger. ImI was expected to take him every six months for sonogram (different location), x ray and bloodwork. I would joke and say I'm going to rename him Louie because that's what he's costing me. A LV bag every time. I love my dog dearly and wanted to do whatever I could to keep him going. But I couldn't help to think, did they do something to my dog sicker for profits? I know I can't make that claim unless I have proof. All I know is how sick he got after that first visit. On my last assessment, I told them I can't afford another x ray and sonogram (VEG). Just the bloodwork. So they did what they did and sent him out. There was no consultation of the findings which I thought was weird. I traveled an hour to bring him to this place, have spent thousands of dollars and that's it? He died two months later. I have to write this in case anyone has had the same experience. I don't want to be told you should have did this or that. Or maybe this and that. It's too late. I just wanted to share my experience in case someone has had the same. That's all.

She treated him with an amount of care that makes it obvious how much she really loves these animals. I send everyone to Alta Vista for affordable veterinary services from a great staff. Every employee that I have encountered there over the years has been so friendly, empathetic, and responsive to needs that it's almost mind blowing. My pup is turning 17 at the end of the month and has been living his best, most bougie, spoiled af life (and has even received table side service from a Michelin star chef ) thanks to Alta Vista and Dr. Buddy. We owe all the staff at the clinic years of our appreciation and gratitude for ensuring my dogs quality of life was a priority and giving me so much extra time with my soul dog.

One of the things I disliked is the fact that everyone will know your business there. There's no sense of privacy and you can't go with your pet when they need to take them to the back. I liked that the dr was very informative and blunt. However, I am not sure we'll be coming back. They asked us if we wanted to go home with food and we kindly declined. They still charged us for it even after declining. Overall, the front desk was very nice. The doctor was very nice but her bedside manner could use some work. We were given an estimate for a few thousands for an unsure procedure. I did not like that.

She put me on hold for over 20 minutes, and when she returned, she sounded annoyed and eager to end the call. I ultimately decided to go to another vet, and when they tried to request my pet's records from Canyon, they were told no records existed. I then asked Jeannette to email the records before my appointment on Wednesday, and she said she would but the records were never sent. Overall, this experience was frustrating and unprofessional. Jeanette is awful at her organization. She blames the vet himself but I think it's both of them. They are so technologically behind other vets it's astonishing. It's like going to a vet in the 70s and they are truly disoriented by their own system. It'll be a downfall if not addressed. There are great vets in the Castro valley area like Eden Pet Hospital or redwood pet hospital. If you want your pets records done effectively, correctly and professionally then DO NOT GO HERE.

My first time having one of my pets in for a basic 9:30am appointment turned into a $500, never met…read morethe new Veterinarian (now that Hallbach has retired), animal so stressed they needed sedation (he received standard vaccinations and an antibiotic for his ear), confusing on pet for another, and not picking up our cat until just before closing at 4 pm, it was an epic failure after 25 years there. Future recommendations is to sedate the cat for all future visits. What should have been 30 min of in and out was a complete disaster. We will not be returning. Please don't expect Dr. Hallbach trust & quality treatment. UPDATE: Arroyo Veterinary is the new owners. So if you left Arroyo to come here, look somewhere else.
