I have been with this clinic for about 6 yrs and it was great before they got bought by a larger corporation. Now they no longer are responsive with emails and when you call, you are put on hold for a long time. Front desk staff seem different each time I go in as well. Another major issue that irritated me was how they no longer would approve prescription flea meds online through Chewy anymore. I had to pick up a hard copy of the script to mail into Chewy. Super inconvenient for patients who need medications soon. Dr. Sekhon was the best vet I saw, but I only was able to see her in person 2x. Parking at this location is easy. I am sorry to have to downgrade this business after having rated it five stars previously. But in the last year, there have been several problems with follow up, medical procedures and inflated prices. I took my dog in for a yeast/fungal infection on his paw that he had been licking until it was raw. The doctor looked at it and saw that the nail had been damaged and infected. She decided to give him pain injection, antibiotics for two weeks and some antiseptic wipes. This came up to about $400.00. She said that should follow up in a couple of weeks which I did. Jazz's foot had still not healed because of the damaged nail. On the second visit, the doctor said that she would cut the nail down to the quick and bandaged it up, with another pain injection and more antibiotics. They charged for the follow up visit office charge. Many vets don't charge an office visit when it is an ongoing issue. Again, the bill was over $400.00. Altogether, I paid over $800.00 for a condition that should not have been as high as that. Why didn't the doctor just take care of the nail on the first visit instead of subjecting my dog to two rounds of antibiotics and two office visit charges? She also said that I should get a senior panel blood test for my dog that they charge over $350.00 for the test. The same test according to the lab that runs the test costs $160.00. I mentioned this to the doctor and she said that they have to charge for collection and disposal of medical waste. I was told to monitor the healing process of my dog which I did. I called the office and gave them an update and had additional questions for the doctor. The staff member said that she would let the doctor know. That was at the end of July and have yet to receive a call back from them. They just never followed up with Jazz and that speaks volumes to the lack of patient care. As long as they got paid, they are not bothered about how the patient is faring. This, to me, is a deal breaker!! GPH is our vet for our dog and now for our two kittens as well! We haven't ever changed , even though we don't live in Ramon anymore, because the staff and service are so great. I took our dog in today to get checked for fleas, and I was just so appreciative of every person who works there. The gal at the front desk who helped me was friendly and communicative, the staff member (vet assistant?) was lovely - she asked all the questions and listened and was clear about what she was doing and most importantly, was so lovely with our little nervous dog! This review is coming from a Gateway patient Nobu, not fur parents. Woof neighbors, this is my first time leaving a review of my experience with Gateway. Four years ago, my parents shared their experience with Gateway. Four years later, guess what, I am writing this review on my own. Sometimes dogs can do better than humans, such as never arguing with your lady but listening. Based on that life experience, you know that I would only share my honest story of Gateway with you. In the past four years, they did a great job in ensuring my health and taking good care of my mom's banking account. She is not over-stressed whenever we go there. You know, girls can save some extra money to buy new things. Happy mother, happy Woof. A few months ago, my mouth started to smell like farts. That derailed our relationship a little bit. One day my mother told me that I had bad breath when I kissed her. Although she didn't refuse my kiss, on her face, I could tell that I am now a terrible kisser. Finally, a week ago, we went to Gateway for my dental treatment. It took several weeks to complete the treatment. First, I did the blood test, and then the urinal test. After my doc confirmed that I got good results in both tests, I was illegible (safe) to do the dental treatment. Woofs, please allow me to tell you a little bit about my dental issue. I am a foodie and I love all kinds of food, especially chewing hard bones and cheese bars. This hobby is way beyond what my tooth can stand. That is how I got a few broken teeth. In addition, I hate toothbrushes but not toothpaste with bacon flavor. Oh please don't pretend you like toothbrushes. We all know the universal truth, without delicious toothpaste, a toothbrush can never get into our mouth. So while I finished the toothpaste as fast as I could, the toothbrush would never have a chance to get close to my back teeth; however, I paid my costs too. I became a terrible kisser because of my bad teeth and bad breath. For those woofs of the size like me, we all have the risk of getting a gum disease when we reach three or four-year-old. So I don't blame myself for being a foodie. I trust the scientific statistics, having bad teeth is not an individual case, but a genetic weakness, so let's blame our ancients. Having dental treatment is good for us and our relationship with humans. I can't tell you how the experience was during the procedure because I was passed out. After I woke up, I heard that my doctor called my parents and gave them follow-ups and caring guidance afterward. Great job on that, they need the woof education. Honestly, after the dental treatment, I was a little bit afraid of staying in this place. Because they can put me to sleep and get into my mouth without giving me bacon flavored toothpaste. But the staff was so nice and warm to me. They hugged me, kissed me, and kept checking on me. I slowly became more active and felt calm there. My doc told me that I may need at least 6 days to recover. But after three days, I was looking for something terribly hard again. Now, you may have a question, how much does the dental treatment cost with this level of services? My program includes a blood test, a urinal test, a dental calculus clean, 6 teeth removal, and a set of 10 day medication. All in all, it costs my parents $1400. I would say this is a fair price, I can use my insurance to cover 60% of the total price (depending on your insurance, the percentage may vary). I am happy with the dental treatment result. My breath is fresh with Hollywood's whiten-looking teeth. Now my mom enjoys kissing me, but the game has changed. Now the kiss from me won't be free. I set the rule, two kisses with one treat. If she doesn't give it to me, I just walk away. Ok, let's talk about the room for improvement. Well, as we all know that in this crazy era, it is hard to hire employees. The market has a problem that demand of labor is greater than the supply. So does Gateway. Sometimes they could forget to call you back to provide updates. But I understand that. How could one staff do everything? If this is a hard problem for them to solve (budget control), then I would say we as a customer can become more proactive to ask for it. Well, as a local woof, I stand for protecting our local small businesses. From my experience so far, I wish the best for them. I hope you enjoy my story with Gateway. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!!! I would leave 10 stars if I could! My pup Nani is my world and I was sad when I found a lump on her that needed to be removed. In combination with having to get her teeth removed and cleaned her original vet quoted me an outrageous price. I turned to Yelp in search of a new vet and pet hospital that I can trust and found Gateway Pet Hospital! The reviews already were glowing and my first experience there did not let me down. I received a quote the same day ( that I could actually afford) and made an appointment for her surgery two weeks later. The hospital is clean and the customer service is above and beyond what any pet parent could ask for. This pet hospital does not throw in extra unnecessary tests and procedures that leave your pockets empty and without answers like other veterinary clinics. On the day of her surgery, I was worried and filled with anxiety but the doctor and staff kept calling to keep me updated all throughout the day. It's been two days post-surgery and she is running around and feels better than ever! I couldn't thank Gateway Pet Hospital more for helping Nani and taking such good care of her! Extremely sad to have to write this review as we have been going to and have loved Gateway since 2019. At the time, the office staff were extremely accommodating and knowledgeable. The office staff and vet assistants always had great bedside manner and answered questions or concerns promptly. Everything was great up until this year when I noticed that the new front office staff is often confused, disorganized, and definitely not as friendly. They tend to rush through our interactions and phone calls. When asked questions, they often cannot answer them without needing to ask the office manager or a vet. They always say that they'll call back with the answer but there has been a couple times where a callback was never received. Not sure what happened. We used to have extremely pleasant interactions with the front office staff. There's an entirely brand new team of staff working the front who haven't been as friendly or helpful. Additionally, I feel like the office has drastically increased their prices and has started to price gouge their clients without providing all of the available options. My husband brought our cat in last week on a Monday and he was diagnosed with diabetes. At the end of the visit, it was determined that he should start on a medication and a prescription diabetes diet food. My husband asked that the staff check how much it'll be to order the medication through the office. We already had an idea of how much it'll cost to order the medication through an online pharmacy (around $70-80 for a month's supply) but wanted to see if the office can get it sooner. Come to find out, it'll cost $159 to get it through the office. We were shocked and when asked if we can get their approval for an online pharmacy instead, they refused and would only offer a hard copy Rx. That's fine and I get it, they want the profit. However, come to find out later that night that Gateway has their own online pharmacy linked on their website selling the same medication for around $80. Something the office staff failed to let me know about as an option. The only options were to pay the $159 or get a hard copy Rx and figure it out. We decided to place an order for the medication through their online pharmacy. The next day, I physically went into the office to pick up the hard copy prescriptions and asked the office manager to approve our online pharmacy order. She said it will be done that day (Wednesday). We checked for days, and our order was still saying "pending vet approval". We called back on the following Monday and asked what was going on. Was told it'll be done within the next 1-2 hours. Waited until the end of the day, nothing. Finally Tuesday morning, called again and was told that we need to re-order with a different vet in their office. The original vet we selected (the one who diagnosed and saw our cat) doesn't have access to approve the order. Why wasn't this told to us initially when we had asked them to approve the medication two different times? It took 7 days for them to realize what the issue was. As soon as this was realized, we re-ordered the medication and it was finally on its way for fulfillment by the pharmacy. That's 7 days of delayed care for our sick cat who needed this new medication ASAP. I asked to speak to the office manager so that I can provide feedback and the staff member cut me off pretty quickly and told me she'll call me back. It's Tuesday night and I never received a call back from the manager. I was hoping to provide information about our experience in the last 1.5 weeks so that they can make improvements. Ignoring us and not calling back just makes us feel like we're not cared for and it's disappointing. Once my cat is stabilized, I may have to look into care elsewhere. read more

We lost our pup Stewie after almost 16yrs, he had passed away of what seems like during his sleep since he likes to lay out in the sun in his old age. We found him in the evening around dinner time unresponsive. anyhow, since it was late and places were closed, we wrapped him up and put him in a bag to be dropped off to the crematory the next day. Yesterday, Wednesday (3.4.2020) our sweet Siberian Husky, Cheyenne, suddenly passed away from what we believe was kidney failure. Quick history: We took her on Monday (3.2.2020) to the first veterinarian hospital who thought she ingested something bad and told us to put her on a chicken and rice or rice and cottage cheese diet till she was eating better. Tuesday, she refused to eat. My husband found Gateway Pet Hospital which is located near Lucky's Grocery Store. Yesterday, (3.4.2020) at 10:30 am we saw Dr. Sekhon and her assistant Dani who looked at Cheyenne's gums and immediately told us that the white color in the gums was not normal and they should be pink. They then proceeded to do a thorough examination. They suggested doing a blood test. We had the results back in by 11:30 am. Dr. Sekhon explained in detail what the different levels indicated from the blood test. The results showed Cheyenne was going through kidney failure. At about 11:50 am, Cheyenne passed away while Dr. Sekhon was listening to her heart. My husband and I were devastated. The compassion that Dr. Sekhon and Dani showed towards us in that hour will never be forgotten. I would recommend Dr. Sekhon and Dani with no hesitation for your furry family members. read more

100% recommend!! I am relatively new to this pet hospital however have brought my wild and crazy pooch in several times. The front staff, Eva and Sydney, were incredibly helpful, informative, and kind. This is a long review so I put a TLDR at the end if you want a quick overview. But if you are looking for a well-rounded vet that 1) is extremely knowledgeable and experienced 2) is compassionate, kind, and patient and 3) won't break the bank--GO HERE. For having so many options in the area, it really is difficult finding a vet that checks off all the boxes. I've gone to many vets over the years, and by far Gateway is the best establishment I've taken my animals to. When we came to Dr. Sekhon, our cat had been diagnosed with diabetes by a prior vet that was uncommunicative, unprofessional, and shockingly unknowledgeable. The entire experience almost killed our cat (not an exaggeration) and left us anxious to take her anywhere else. But one appointment with Dr. Sekhon was longer than all 14 appointments we had had with the last vet combined (also not an exaggeration). She went over every tiny detail, including what diabetes was, what we need to do now, what her plan was as the doctor, and what the future could look like for our cat. Six weeks later and our cat went into diabetic remission--something our last vet said was extremely rare and wouldn't happen. But Dr. Sekhon made it possible. Then, our dog had a lump on his leg that turned out to be cancerous. We were beside ourselves. But Dr. Sekhon and her team made themselves available through the entire process. We got the bad news on a Friday afternoon, had blood work and X-rays the next day, then by Tuesday he went in for removal (Dr. Sekhon does the surgery herself). Just four days and he was taken care of. For reference, when we called other places (before we knew Gateway was available asap), the wait time just to be seen was two weeks. It was a tricky spot to remove the tumor, but Dr. Sekhon did an excellent job and now our dog is cancer free. We cannot express how grateful we are for Gateway, and we are extremely comforted knowing that if we ever need them, they're only a call away. TLDR//Quick pros to Gateway: -Very available and patient doctor, who will answer ALL your questions and then some -Kind, knowledgeable staff -Clean facility and very easy parking right outside -They call and confirm before they do any tests and review cost (something that should be standard but our last vet never did this) -Priced very reasonably. A lot of places in Danville/Alamo/Walnut Creek price gouge and take advantage of your grief, but Gateway does not. (Example, lump removal was quoted $5k-$7k other places, at Gateway it was under $2k) -You can email them at any time and they will get back to you the same day. If you ask Dr. Sekhon a question in particular, she will either email you herself or call you. -Easy drop-off. They take your pet into the back for the appointment, but you can request to be seen in the room if you need guidance with administering shots, etc -Just good people, all of them. We couldn't be happier with Gateway. Our dog had surgery to remove bladder stones and we were concerned about where to have a surgery of this kind. We called another pet hospital and they were so unorganized there was no way we were going to let them conduct the surgery. Both Doctors (The Sekhon's) are phenomenal. They clearly knew exactly what they were talking about, they were able to answer every question and concern that we had with ease and they informed us of everything which would take place during the surgery. The surgery went great and we were so happy they were able to help our dog. Both locations are great with friendly and attentive staff. Animals are expensive in general, luckily we have pet insurance so I don't mind the cost of making sure my kitty is healthy. I too concur with the longtime customers who used to love the whole caring experience with staff and Dr. Sekhon and the good value compared to other, higher end more expensive vets. While I sympathize that it is hard for any doctor, for both humans and pets to sustain a single shingle practice and that they must make adjustments, the transformation here has felt abrupt and unpleasant to the customers. The prices are much higher for all services and they create multiple opportunities to charge for more services. The primary vet tech is VERY unfriendly. She. treats the animals she handles like objects to be efficiently handled and carried to the back for treatment...does she even like animals? She and I had an unpleasant exchange over some of the issues mentioned above and it is very uncomfortable returning there. Her attitude is so off putting that I don't believe my fur baby will get the best care there at any price and will be shopping for alternative care. My husband even called him the next day and he took time out of his busy day to explain everything to him. They also did the dental cleaning on Newton. This review has been long over due. I am so happy that I found this place when my dog was in a critical condition where his bladder stone got caught in the tube so he couldn't really pass urine. I already spent almost a thousand at another vet and they did not fix the problem. I was really upset that they want to keep on dragging his condition. Until I stumbled upon this vet. I was so relieved that Dr. Sekhon was able to operate on him to remove the stones. It's been over a year and he is still healthy running around like a little puppy. I seen both Dr. Sekhon, they are very nice and friendly. They truly care for my dog. I had a lot of question and they answer them with patience. (Late on writing this, but I just re-activitated my yelp account and thought I would leave a long overdue review) My boyfriend and I adopted our pup, Rye, from a local rescue when she was 2 months old only to find out that she had Parvo (a very dangerous virus for pups - look it up!) within hours of bringing her home. It was about 9pm when I brought her to an after hours emergency clinic and found out. We contacted the rescue to let them know (because it is highly contagious to pups) and they offered to pay for the treatment using their Vet (Gateway Pet Hospital)! Rye had to be hospitalized for 3 days and hooked up to IVs for meds/fluids. The doctors were AMAZING. They took such great care of her and let us visit everyday after work. Following the 3 day hospitalization, my boyfriend and I were very cautious with Rye (her diet, her poop, her everyday activity) and the staff was very helpful in providing advice and reassurance via email and/or phone. We recently moved to San Jose and still make the trip out to Dublin (30 min drive) for Rye's vet appointments and nail clippings (this is the only place where Rye will let them cut her nails!!) We are so thankful to Michelle, Dr. Sekhon(?), and all the staff for saving Rye's life! She loves the staff and is so comfortable with them every time we make a visit. She is now a happy and healthy pup and we couldn't be more thankful for Gateway Pet Hospital! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a Vet that you can whole heartedly trust to give your pet(s) the best care. read more
