The team is amazing here! I've never seen a veterinarian who got down on the floor to make sure my furbaby felt welcomed. Her team welcomed Khaleesi with so much kindness. Got her all excited to get a shot. Offices were clean, Staff was friendly, Dr. was knowledgeable. Thank you for being amazing with Khaleesi so glad we added ourselves to the waitlist!

I used to be very skeptical about veterinarians. Over the years, Montecito animal clinic has really, truly gained my trust. I genuinely feel that they care about my dog and I, and that their recommendations are always in my dog's best interest. They aren't pushy and they don't nickel and dime me. While some vet's almost always tell you to make an appointment if you have any sort of question/concern, the staff here are very generous with their advice; they understand that it's not always easy/affordable to make an appointment. They are patient with me when I'm nervous and have so many questions, they help me understand what's going on when the information is overwhelming, and lastly they are very thorough with their examinations and making sure all my pets needs are met. This goes for the whole staff: the front desk team, technicians and the Drs/Vets themselves. I am so thankful for the entire staff at this clinic.

Scrappy doo

Dr March and her wonderful staff have been taking care of all the Barry family dogs for years. Today I had to put my beloved Scrappy to sleep due to multiple issues. He received the best care for years and especially while trying to make his life easier the last few months of his life. They could not have been more compassionate towards me and my little dog this morning. I am grateful for the knowledge and care of Dr March and her caring staff. Thank you very much!

From our very first visit, she completely understood and intuited the needs of our sweet dog Jojo, and has kept her healthy and vibrant well into her "senior years" (I use quotation marks because Jojo is about 13 years old but is frequently mistaken for a puppy, given how youthful and energetic she is). I can't even begin to express what a tremendous gift it has been to feel secure that we can handle any health issues that come up for Jojo, with the support of Dr. Rettig and her team. We animal guardians love our little ones so much, and there's nothing worse than watching them suffer and not knowing how to help. Whenever I can surrender enough to completely hand over the assessment and decision making to Dr. Rettig, we always get a good outcome. On more than one occasion, we have seen resolution of an acute issue within 24 hours of our treatment session. It's been truly remarkable. Dr. Rettig is an expert in holistic animal care, but on the few occasions that Jojo has needed specialty help from a traditional vet, Dr. Rettig communicated that to us immediately and supplied us with wonderful referrals. We trust her recommendations completely. Jojo loves Dr. Rettig, too! She is often eager and excited when we arrive at the clinic, which is not the case with ANY other vet we have taken her to see. We all know how lucky we are to have access to such a unique healing practice!

She started favoring her paw and last night kept licking it. First thing this morning I called and Luis answered the phone. He was friendly, compassionate and definitely wanting to help me out. He asked if I could be there in about 45 minutes. I arrived early and filled out the paperwork. Luis brought over 2 treats for her Cookie (dog) to calm her down. Cookie couldn't stop shaking. Then the vet assistant Ingrid took us into an exam room. She too was super kind, professional and genuinely cared for our situation. She carefully took Cookie into the back for the doctor to examine her. Jill Oliveira, DVM came in after the exam to share Cookie's diagnosis and care plan. The Vet was outstanding. I attribute the incredible customer service to Jill for leading by example and setting the expectations for the team/staff. She demonstrated genuine care when communicating lots of needed care attention that is advised in a compassionate manner. I was so appreciative of her bedside manner and that of the entire team. I am beyond grateful for Luis, Ingrid and Jill, the veterinarian. Cookie is on the mend for immediate issue and we will be bringing her back for follow up care.

After it works then they reverse it with a shot. Then they rehydrated her via IV. Followed by charcoal mixed with baby food to absorb anything left. Lacy stayed with us the entire time, it seemed like most pets stayed with their person. During our close to 2 hours there I witnessed a ton of tug on your heartstrings stuff. I watched them treat a lot of dogs for different things, someone brought in their snake. Everyone working there was calm and gentle with the pets and the people. I was dismissed and full on disrespected by Dr Katy Wilkinson. My dog can be reactive/anxious at the vet. I called before coming asking if I should give home his trazodone/gabapentin to keep him calm and they instructed me not to do so. Which I listened to. After explaining my pets symptoms and behavioral issues I also explained to the Dr how my pet does better with exams when I'm out of the room because he is very protective over me. After hearing everything DR Wilkinson determined they would want to move forward with an XRay and said he'd need to be sedated. I informed her he's had X-rays at his primary vet without sedation and an ultrasound at VEG without sedation before. But she was firm she would need it. She said she would try to examine him first with the muzzle on and go from there to determine if they could do it without sedation. Her and her helper came in the room, huddled over my anxious dog on the couch and tried to examine him in front of me. He was growling and I reminded her he does better with me out of the room. She asked me to step out, which I did and watched through the blinds. They finished in 30 seconds max. After opening the door she goes yeah we have to sedate him since he was thrashing and snapping at us during exam (this never happened I watched the entire 30 second exam). I asked her if they could try to do the X-rays without sedation and if it didn't work they could sedate him. She said she would not. I explained I don't understand why we wouldn't even try when they've been able to do it before without sedation. She said "I'm not sure how they did it at your vet if they had to pin him to the table but I'm not comfortable doing that here" (said this about 5x in the next 20 minutes) insinuating that I take my pet to a place where they abuse my dog or that I'd be okay with someone doing that to my pet when I would never do or say such a thing. It was insanely rude to be saying such a thing to a pet parent. She also repeatedly said "I refuse to put my staff in danger" which o would never ask for and assured her I care about her staff as well but don't see how they would not even attempt if it had been done before. At this point in the interaction I tried to see if my primary vet could get him in for X-RAYS,but they couldn't. I let her know we could proceed with their plan but I wasn't happy with my experience and disappointment in the staffs care today. She tried to back and forth with me about why it makes sense to examine a dog with anxiety by crowding him on a couch then tried to send me to sage veterinary. I declined and said I just want my dog to be okay and taken care of here. Then she goes fine we can try to do the X-ray without sedation but you'll have to help me because I'm not putting my staff in danger. I refused. At this point I didn't have trust that she had positive intentions or even wanted to help. They switched drs and I got dr kwon instead who was AMAZING. She actually listened, did the exam on my pup with me out of the room and said he did surprisingly well (LIKE i SAID HE WOULD IN THE BEGINNING) she agreed to do the X-rays without sedation and guess what, done in 10 minutes vet tech said he did great! Her assistant Kyle was so so helpful too! If dr Wilkinson actually tried to assist my pet instead of taking the easy way out through sedation and not insinuate I take my dog to a vet in the alley where they pin him down. I'd probably have a positive experience from the start. Trying to shame a pet parent who is asking questions or trying to save on an expensive bill when it is possible is insanity. I take care of my pup, love him dearly and the fact that a vet insinuated otherwise was so upsetting. If you do come to VEG stay away from DR Wilkinson

About two weeks ago, Espy suddenly developed a limp, so we brought him in and had X-rays done. It was Saturday, and all of Sunday's appointments were already taken, so we started a live chat with one of Modern Animal's vets. The vet was incredibly helpful. They asked us to upload a video of Espy walking, talked us through what they were seeing, gave us guidance on what to do next, and - just as importantly - gave us some peace of mind while we monitored him at home. We were also able to refill his medicine through the APP which allows us to pick them today. What impressed me even more was that on today (Monday), Modern Animal proactively followed up to ask how Espy was doing.
