So far I've been to Vesta two times for brunch and tonight for dinner. I'm so happy this place is just a 20 min walk from where I live. What a neighborhood gem! Vesta is the best brunch I've had in Queens and this is why I love Queens. Vesta is up there with the best brunch places in Manhattan but with NONE of the pretentiousness. Oh and did I mention it's also much friendlier to your wallet than Manhattan brunches? Brunch-wise, I've had... ...L'Italiano (poached eggs; grilled Italian bread, hot sopressata & ricotta)~ The combination of the bread, sopressata salami, and ricotta was perfect. The eggs were just slightly overcooked for poached eggs but i'm willing to overlook that because the flavors worked so well together. ...Warm Bankie (fried eggs with polenta, asparagus, mushrooms & truffle oil)~ So delicious! I shoveled forkful after forkful of the gooey egg yolk and polenta mixture into my mouth, stopping only for forkfuls of mushrooms and asparagus. If the restaurant wasn't so packed I would have licked my plate clean. For dinner tonight, I had the special, which was a spaghetti with swiss chard and celery, tossed with crumbled cheese and topped with bread crumbs. Very solid dish! If I wasn't so full after dinner, I would have tried the dessert. Oh well, there's always next time and I'll definitely be back. read more

Which silly person said, "I don't eat Italian when I go out"? It couldn't possibly someone who visited Vesta for dinner 3 times in the span of a month. Vesta serves delicious food that would satisfy both the high-maintenance foodie and the non-picky diner. The only issues you may have is that the food is very very heavy, and at times too salty. When I went with a group of 4 other girls, we probably each drank 2 liters of water each throughout the dinner. Between the salted meats on the pizzas, the meatballs, the brussels sprouts - we were very thirsty throughout the meal. As someone who cannot resist meatballs, these definitely hit the spot. I think they won a meatball smackdown contest in Brooklyn a few years back. The every-day menu meatballs are not as gargantuan as the ones at the smackdown, but they are delicious and appropriately meaty. I recall the pork loin being a surprisingly elegant dish, and very juicy. Plated over dark greens, slightly caramelized, this was a more sophisticated and delicious dish than expected. A bit of a hike, the few times I've come here have been with friends with cars, but I would say worth the hike and the extra walk (especially if you will be consuming copiously). read more

Rustic wooden tables, lots of natural light, chalk boards on the wall... everything you'd want for a nice Instagram with your best betches on a Sunday morning. Poached eggs were perfect. Having moved over to a wonderful part of LIC last year; there are drawbacks..very few stores and restaurants. Vesta is more in Astoria than LIC, but it's more than worth the little trek over there. Reasonable and tasty wine list, and an menu that's just large enough to stimulate the imagination, but focused and fresh. A nice mix ranging from delicious thin pizzas to delicious steak and salmon dishes. The brussels sprouts were a big hit at our table, and that says it all! Get a table up front of sit at the bar and enjoy the wine selection. But the food is worth staying for! read more

What a great little spot in the middle of no where in Astoria. I was visiting my BFF and she lives about a block from Vesta. I was sold as soon as she told me they had a hang over pizza. I love the ambiance of this place it's a cute little Italian cafe. We walked in and were greeted by our friendly server. I started my morning/afternoon off with a Bloody Mary it was perfect and a delicious cup of coffee. The menu is small but there are plenty of amazing options to choose from. Definitely dishes I would never find in NC they were very unique to the normal brunch menus I'm use to. On top of the hangover pizza which is a must here we ordered the quinoa with goat cheese, beets, pesto, and a poached egg. The hangover pizza was the star of our meal and it's huge definitely enough for two people. The pizza was topped with potatoes, pancetta, sausage, fried eggs & spicy tomato sauce. I love that it's on a very thin crust so it's not overly filling. I will not be forgetting this pizza anytime soon. I enjoyed the quinoa dish as well but it wasn't nearly as good as the pizza it was a little bland. I wish I was still in town so I could check out their dinner menu as well. While the exterior may look a bit shabby, Vesta surely impresses once you walk in. Exposed brick walls, shelves stacked with books and used wine bottles and an overall rustic feel with great lighting, always nice for brunch feasting. Yes these are the things I notice...I know I know this is a food review! The noms: We eyed the hangover pizza but skipped it since we thought it would be too much food for two, saving that for another time. - The organic herb polenta- SO creamy and flavorful. Creamy polenta topped with two fried eggs and sautéed mushrooms. We loved this dish and I'd bet I would be satisfied with just this. - homefries- believe it or not, many places mess basic homefries. They were pretty good here. Nice and crispy and served on the side of the polenta dish -Buttermilk pancakes- a little overly sweet for me but they were fluffy and I love anything flavored with oranges. I can see some people not loving these pancakes though, mostly because the flavor is a little overpowering for pancakes. I sided a little inside when I was too full to sample their famous sweet baby Jesus cake which I saw the table next to us order. It looked beautiful! read more

I've always wanted to try this place since my parent's place is two blocks away from here. (Well, it used to be my place, but I guess I call it my parents place now). This place used to be some abandon restaurant of some sort. And now it's gentrified and upscale. Ish. Supposedly, this is a great brunch spot. So we decided to go get some brunch grub, mainly the brunch pizza and the quiche. The quiche was pretty dry and disgusting. The pizza was good. And the menu didn't have that much of a selection. I came here to get takeout after a big exam, and I have to say this was a huge huge disappointment, and I have only had 1 other pizza in my life that's worse: Little Caesar's. I got 2 pizzas from here, the salsiccia and the noce. First, I showed up when they said my pizza would be done. I was told it would be about 2 minutes, which it took slightly longer, so I'm assuming it was just coming out of the oven. I literally live across the street AND I was driving back home, so it couldn't have been long for me to start eating. But it was cold already!!! The pizza also was not good. The crust / dough was seemingly undercooked, but when I reheated in the oven, it still didn't taste or feel better. It was as if it wasn't cooked enough, but I think it was - so it must've either been just a weird mixture of dough or maybe they just put way too much flour on the bottom. The pizza itself was also very small, the size of a personal pizza, but was super expensive $20, so not worth it for what you get. The last kicker was that I kept finding these fibers in my pizza - they were not hair, and they were not cheese, but I couldn't figure out where it came from. It also wasn't from me because I legitimately had to pull them out of the pizza as it was interlaced in the food. Also the noce pizza that I got was lacking on the toppings. It was supposed to have things like bits and walnut, but it only seemed to have artichoke and arugula. Very disappointed. Came here for brunch on a Saturday. It's not in the busy area of Astoria where most restaurants are so there was no wait, attentive service, and noise level wasn't too loud. The food was also really yummy and really cheap. The menu for brunch isn't very long but there was a bit of everything. Brunch specials, sandwiches, soups, pizzas. My friend and I both got the l'italiano as recommended by the waiter. $10?! What a deal. The bread was crunchy but not too hard. Perfect amount of ricotta that added that creamy and salty flavor. The soppressata (Italian sausage) was delicious. Poached eggs were done just right. And home fries came with bits of onion in them, which really added that extra layer of flavor. I wish there was more sausage on it and the home fries could have used some more salt. Those were my only cons. Service was on point. Our water cups were never empty. I truly cannot put into words how amazing the food is at Vesta. My husband discovered this restaurant while finding a new place to celebrate our anniversary, SO happy he did! We got the mussels and cheese plate for our appetizer, loved It! For dinner my husband had the wild boar lasagna, which he ate every last bite and I had the rabbit Ricotta cavatelli. The flavor is that dish is OUT OF THIS WORLD. The rabbit was so tender as well. Thoroughly enjoyed It! We got the Baby Jesus cake and all I have to say is, that toffee sauce needs to be bottled up and sold because I need MORE. Everything from beginning to end was delicious. Food: Food is a standout here. Sand-free mussels in a garlic-y sauce for appetizer. Pizza was bomb, steak was actually cooked to order (medium), special of the day was pasta with presto sauce (IMO the best dish for the night, others enjoyed my pizza more), and lasagna, when compared to the other dishes was easily the worst of the night. Everything was seasoned well, not overly salty nor did other flavors mask the natural tastes of our individual dishes. Classic case of quality ingredients resulting in quality food. Drinks: Cannot speak about the wine. But the beer selection was seriously lacking. No microbrew selections. Some macrobrews and a few selections from Italy. I can sum that beer up as the Coor's Light of Italy. Like how Sapporo is the Coor's Light of Japan. Dos Equis to Mexico, Hite to Korea, Heineken to the Netherlands, and so on. I was dying for Dogfish IPA to down with my sausage pizza. Espresso was A+ though. Service: Another standout point. We were drinking the aforementioned mussel sauce with the mussel shell, upon noticing this, the waiter brought us spoons without prompting from us. I guess the manager can sense that we weren't too happy with the beer so he comped us the drinks. Ladies and gentlemen, that is attention to details. Then you have the service which should be the norm, filling up water, clearing plates, etc. done without us asking. (Some places think that is above and beyond service, oh well). I'm still hoping to find an Italian spot in Manhattan that is as good as Brooklyn's al di la and now Queens' Vesta. Tucked away in a quiet corner in Astoria, a few blocks down from the above-ground 30th Avenue stop, Vesta became fully packed on a slow Sunday in July. I had made a reservation for 6 pm and felt slightly foolish announcing that fact when we came in and the place was completely empty, but if you come later, make a reservation to be on the safe side. I guess we were all in a pasta mood, because we ordered 3 of the 4 pasta dishes on the menu and split them family-style. Out of the lasagna, the shrimp spaccateli, and the rye trumpets, I was torn between the spaccateli and the trumpets. There are no mushy or crunchy pasta here, everything was cooked perfectly al dente. The sweet corn was good as a side dish, but I think I'll try one of the salads next time to get my vegetables in. It's not an exceedingly large menu but the dishes they do, they do very well, and the ingredients come sourced from the local Greenmarket. I came here with my gf for some dinner this past Friday. Of course I live fairly close to this restaurant and something bothers me about eating close to home. But this is a nice hidden Gem like everyone mentions. This isn't a place where you order mainstream pasta or played out Italian dishes. From what I saw, This was an Italian restaurant that brings traditional Italian dishes to life and also they show love to all guests. Nice welcoming from entire group when we were stepping in, addition to the very attentive service throughout the meal. Not like most restaurants who is very helpful when you come in and then forget about you for the rest of the night. Pizza made fresh on pita was a big surprise (I loved it!!! Even though theres no meat, Damn Veges!!). And my lasagna was just amazing. Prices were a little higher than expected but service makes up for it. I had lunch here and made a reservation for dinner and got kicked out for dinner. I was told he doesn't like my face. Am i there for him to like my face or what. On to the review I was expecting a fancier restaurant, most people wore shorts and tee shirts and a very laid back atmosphere. I was surprised they didn't have any specials nor did they have their famous meatballs. We started with a walnut pesto ricotta parmesan pizza that was a nice size and tasted very good. Our entree's consisted of the baked three meat ragu lasagna ( very tasty) but I have had better, The Pappardelle dish was good, you could taste the lemon and pine nuts and it was refreshing for a pasta dish, the pork sausage spiedini was also good and was plated very nicely. The wine list was fair and I think all the bottles they offered had screw tops. We had an ok Malbec. Very disappointed in the famous baby Jesus cake, really was nothing special, kind of over cooked and dry. We tried the Holy Trinity ice cream(home made) and that was fair. **brunch review** About three years after coming here for dinner, some girlfriends and I came here for brunch. I acknowledge this is definitely one of the best spots for brunch in the area, but as NYC brunches go, I wasn't necessarily blown away. Located on a quiet street in Astoria, Vesta is a demure little spot. I stopped by with my SO on a Sunday morning around noon. We easily found parking and were seated immediately. Any place without a wait for brunch is a win in my books. We ordered the hangover pizza and the L'italiano. The pizza was awesome! It had a thin crispy crust and their spicy tomato sauce is delicious. The L'italiano was okay, but I think I ruined it for myself by eating the pizza first. The portion for the pizza is a little much for one person -- even with two people we could barely finish it since we had about two slices left over (mostly since we ordered another entree). I completely understand why they call it the Hangover Pizza...I could just imagine it: dragging myself in to Vesta on a Sunday morning, in sweats, and gorging myself on this protein-packed circular form of deliciousness. This Italian eatery is certainly a neighborhood favorite especially given it's location being all by its lonesome at the more residential/industrial edges of Astoria. It's worth the 10 minute hike from the train though. It's a local favorite for a reason! The dishes here are prepared thoughtfully and work well with each other. The steamed mussels in particular were a delightful appetizer with the assortment of peppers used giving it a vivid and descriptive taste. It was a mixture which allowed the flavors to blend yet remain fully unique. It's a little difficult to experience that taste, but that was a common theme across the other dishes I had. The lasagna was hefty and filling and incredibly cheesy (and hot!) Overall there's not much to be disappointed about here. The waitress was friendly and answered all our questions about the ingredients and food. Both our main dishes cod and steak were cooked to perfection and than we were pleasantly surprised by a side order of brussels sprout which was cooked with maple /bourbon syrup and bacon. This place is great for happy hour with $5 wines on draft and some appetizer specials. We got the mussels, which were incredible. They also brought out this homemade bread for the table with fresh olive oil that I probably could have eaten as a meal. For entrees I ordered the blackened cod. The dish was beautiful (regretfully I didn't snap a photo), but it had delicious colorful veggies on the bottom. Super tasty and affordable brunch in Astoria. Vesta is relatively unassuming in location and ambiance but the food is great. Being the growing girl that I am (okay, not true) I read the description of The Hangover Breakfast Pizza and deemed myself up for the challenge. My dining companion left me hanging and opted for the daintier (but delicious) L'Italiano, but our kind server reassured me that I could handle the pizza alone. It was HUGE! I was shocked but our server was right: though packed with tons of flavor, the pizza had an ultra thin crust and was surprisingly delicate, making it easy for me to polish off slice after slice. The tomato base was tangy and delicious with a hint of spice, the cheese and meats zesty but not overpowering; the potatoes were a hearty complement to the sauce, and the egg atop the pizza was perfectly cooked and miraculously did not run/drip all over the pizza. This guy was a great value and fun to eat too. Only one thing I'd change: season or cook the breakfast potatoes more instead of leaving them plain -- but this is minor. I LOVE this place! Boyfriend and I went for an early brunch on a Valentine's Day Saturday (around 11:30am). There were a few people already at the restaurant which was a good sign considering they open at 11:00am. The decor was very nice - homey and warm (would've felt warmer if it wasn't so cold outside). One of the things I noticed when we sat down was there they had a chalkboard up on the back wall that listed where they sourced all of their ingredients from. This made me so happy to see that everything we were eating was farm fresh (and trust me, you can definitely taste it in the dishes). Anyway, we were greeted and seated right away, promptly given water and then the waiter took our order once we had decided what we wanted. We started with the Vesta Punch (lemonade, pineapple juice & prosecco) which was very light and refreshing. Then we were served 2 pieces of bread that was drizzled with some sort of chocolate sauce(?) - not really sure what we were eating, but it was delish! Our great server recommend the meatballs and arancini. The meatballs here are amazing!!! The meat is super tender and it's just the right amount of spicy. Came for brunch with friends. The Mimosa's are a must! Perfect for brunch. I actually didn't get it when my friends ordered since I had a good amount of alcohol the night before, but after taking a sip from my friend's drink, it was just too good to pass. We ordered the Warm Bankie, Hangover Pizza and french toast with Jam and shared everything. I really liked the french toast and the Hangover Pizza. The french toast was, good, nothing extra special, but I really liked the jam it came with. Chunky and good, not too sweet. Shifting from the toast to the pizza was actually good. From sweet to salty. The hangover pizza was pretty good - its a thin crust pizza with a few chunks of meat with spicy tomato sauce and sunny side up eggs on top. I tried it with and without the eggs and it was pretty good! it was actually enough for 3 people, also coz we had other food. But the waitress said she could have it all to herself if she wanted to, so bear that in mind if you ever consider ordering this. The Warm Bankie on the other hand is something I can live without. It was mushy and a little.. I can't think of a better term than diluted. It seemed a little too watery, but it was good. I have a thing with consistency and texture and it just wasn't my thing. These are the type of restaurants I like. Came here last night for a low key dinner. From start to finish it was a lovely meal. I wish I had gotten our servers name because she was wonderful. We started with the meatballs... Oh my they melted in my mouth. So tender so flavorful perfect sharing size. I had the gemelli with sausage and that was a hit as well. Cooked perfectly.... Ugh I want some more now. My partner had the chicken and while I didn't try it he finished his plate. We finished with the baby Jesus cake because we obviously had too and it was delicious . You can taste cinnamon strongly from the cake, and the caramel syrup got nice flavor to it. However, not too big of a fan of the vanilla gelato - has some sourness that I don't think goes well with the cake. Also, some of the dates/caramels can get stuck to your teeth. I wish that there were more than 5 stars to give because I would. Being an event producer I have very high standards & expectations when it comes to food and service & Vesta beyond exceeded them. The atmosphere of the restaurant is fabulous. From the comforting but upscale decor to their awesome rolling stones pandora station I was impressed as soon as we sat down. Our waiter was Carlos who happened to be moonlighting there as he works at one of their other restaurants Pachanga Patterson (which I've also dined at and it is GREAT). He is by far one of the best servers I have ever experienced. He has a fun and vibrant personality and really cares about the restaurant and has alot of pride in the food. That is not something you see a lot of these days. He made great recommendations about the menu and treated us so well. The food was incredible. We started with a salad and the cold soup. The soup was insanely delicious and we loved it. The quinoa blueberry salad was different and also good. We had the lamb and spaghetti dishes for our entrees and again I loved it all. I normally don't finish my meals when we go out but there was nothing left on either of our plates. Everything was so fresh and you could really taste that. Especially with the pasta. We did not have room for dessert and had originally passed on the Baby Jesus Cake which was the first think I inquired about when we were seated. However Carlos surprised us with it while we were finishing our wine. He really made our dinner an experience which we really appreciated. The wine list was also great and the owner was very good at breaking it down for us. Vesta is definelty a hidden gem and I'm looking forward to returning soon to try their pizza. Do yourself a favor and come to Vesta, and get yourself the Baby Jesus cake. You will not regret it. I've been to Vesta twice now for brunch and each time has been such a lovely experience. It's a great addition to a part of Astoria that doesn't have too many restaurants. The service is also friendly and quick which made the experience all the better. This time we went I started with the iced coffee which they refill for you throughout your meal. It's a delicious, strong blend of coffee I really enjoyed. I got the L'italiano breakfast - such a great Italian spin on classic eggs Benedict with ricotta and sopressata. I wanted to try something different but I have a hard time moving away from this. My boyfriend got the eggs in purgatory which was equally delicious. It was like your grandmother's Bolognese with two poached eggs in it. But the best move we made, by far, was ordering the Baby Jesus cake. We were bursting at the seams full at this point but I had to try it. We got it with the creme fraiche which was a nice, light complement to the sweet, cinnamony cake. It was beyond amazing and I'd go back just to have it. All in all, great experience. I have been here several times and the food is always killer! Believe me, i make a point to try every meal on the table, even if it is not mine! They also have a very good happy hour deal. What I want to emphasize is the desert. Yes, everyone talks about the baby Jesus cake which is admittedly amazing... but what I keep thinking about is their sunchoke cake. One of the best desserts I've ever had. A sunchoke is a root vegetable... so just imagine that. To my dismay this item was seasonal... only in the Autumn.
