I want to start out by saying that I have huge appreciation for classic games.... when they are properly taken care of. I was super excited to go check Versus out on Friday! Then we got there and it was not even close to being what we expected from reading reviews and looking at the website. We got in and it was extremely packed which we expected and we expected to not be able to get on any game right away. The first game that we played did not fully work, you could go only once direction that you would need which made the game pointless. We got in maybe one functioning game and then left. We did not even bother trying to get a drink at the bar because it was beyond busy and there were many people waiting a long time. I would say there are about 20 games and no way there were more because both rooms were tiny that had the games inside of them. I was very disappointed about my trip to Versus. I think that 5 dollars unlimited play was really useless because we didnt even play enough functioning games to get 2 dollars worth of play , so basically our 10 dollars spent at Versus was a 10 dollar lesson. I would say if you are looking to go to a great bar arcade go to A4cade in Cambridge or Bit Bar in Salem. All there games are fully functioning and have more than one bar. Maybe me and my boyfriend's expectations were too high from frequenting other great local bar arcades read more

This was a huge letdown. Many of the games I wanted to play were not operational including basketball, several pinball machines, frogger, mortal kombat, and ski ball. Keg was tapped on three different beers I tried to order. Beer I eventually received was flat. Bartender not great. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that this place is new and they and can turn it around. I work nearby and will be back in a couple months to hopefully update this review w/ a better score! read more

This place has A LOT of work to do. They were ill prepared to handle our party even though we made reservations in advance. Food quality is a huge problem here, and service was awful. I will not be returning. If you like classic arcade games, think twice before coming to Versus. The game selection is very limited and It seems like only 50% of the games work... very disappointing. The game room to the left of the bar (the one with the basketball game), smelled of urine. I have to say, the console games at the bar was a nice touch. The food was terrible. Steak and Cheese Egg roles are frozen from a bag, they are the same ones you can find at Costco. My first order of "Hot N' Spicy" wings was neither hot, nor spicy - instead I was brought a plate of cold, sad looking teriyaki-ish wings. The wings were so unlike their namesake I thought the waitress must have forgotten and brought me a different type of wing. After being told that the wings I was given were in fact "Hot N' Spicy" flavor, I opted for the "Dr. Pepper" wings instead. This time I was brought a plate of Luke warm, sad looking wings coated in a cheap, store bought barbecue sauce. I cannot emphasize enough that the wings they serve here are the tiny, fatty, cheap wings you would find at a low tier supermarket. The Mac n Cheese bites were the highlight of our meal, however it's hard to screw up fried Kraft... not impressed. The impossible burgers my girlfriend and I ordered were over cooked so much, that the outside of our burgers was crispy, hard, and dry. They over salted the already salty patty, and seasoned it with large pepper corns. The burger had cheese whiz on it (an impossible burger with cheese whiz is truly a disgusting combination), and the buns were again, from Costco. This place is NOT equipped to handle large parties, no matter what they might tell you. Drink orders were often wrong, and had to be corrected. One of our friends asked for a margarita and was brought a tequila drink which contained a mix of margarita mix and orange juice. It's really hard to believe this place is under the same ownership as the Grand - I was caught off guard by the quality of the experience as the Grand is one of my favorite spots in Boston. Versus has a great concept,m and terrible execution. If you're not going to do something right, just don't do it at all. read more

Hands down, awesome place. Chill staff, great atmosphere, and sweet games. Wish they had more variety in terms of games, but it's still new. I'm sure it's a work in progress. One con would be the controllers. Some of them being broken or dirty. But what do you expect with dozens of people coming in and out. read more

Kinda lame overall, would prefer a chucky cheese Lots of games broken, and some sketchy people there read more

this is literally the most fun bar ever! The games are all in perfect condition, the drinks and service are top notch and the manager Michael is awesome! our fav spot to go! read more

Food is mediocre and there are lots of broken games. What was advertised as an adult barcade is more of a bar with a mix of old and new arcade games. Popular games are almost always never available as people just stay on the game forever, some are broken and have yet to be repaired. Over all disappointing and you'll have more fun going to Lucky Strike in Fenway. read more

Since recently opening after being closed due to the corona virus pandemic, Versus has made it a priority to ensure the safety of their guests with constant and consistent cleaning by management and an emphasis on social distancing best practices. No small task in an arcade bar! I am truly impressed that the venue has gone above and beyond to make the guest experience safe and compliant by implementing measures such as touchless menus and partitions between the bar seats. It is great to be able to go back to a beloved spot and play some games! The pub food and drinks continues to be tasty and on theme read more

I took my team to Versus for lunch not long after they opened. If you enjoyed the 80s (or missed out on them) the first time around, you'll love Versus. From the frisbee plates to the fun games on the table to the excellent selection of classic arcade games, we had a blast. The burgers and sandwiches were very good. Worth a visit if you're looking for a fun lunch during the week. read more

One of my favorite stops when I'm in Boston. Great atmosphere, food and drinks. Overall very enjoyable spot to play games and grab a drink. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Go somewhere else. It is so unwelcoming, trying to find the door & it's not really labeled well, no sign really. When you walk upstairs you don't know which way to go or what to do, nobody is there to greet you to tell you what's what. The place is a long rectangular space w/ the bar in the middle. It is hard to maneuver. You're trying to play games but your friends can't stand next to you because other people are playing games right next to you. It's super annoying, you can' stand behind folks because then you block the aisle. They crammed so much into this place that you can't really move about. So poorly designed. The only good thing is that you pay $5 for all you can play. read more

Awesome concept!! I've been twice in the past two weeks since I discovered it. They have all sorts of games available and for only $5 you can play till the night ends. You do have to wait around a while to grab a game though; I wish they had a larger quantity read more

Love how old school barcades are popping up all over now, but this one misses the mark. My wife and I were barhopping around the city on a beautiful Sunday over Memorial Day weekend and we stopped in to play a game or two and enjoy a cold beer. Unfortunately they don't let you play any games unless you pay a $5 fee. Well we weren't going to fork over $10 to play a couple of games, so we left and enjoyed a cold beer elsewhere. Bummer. Listen, I get charging a $5 fee, like a cover, on a Friday or Saturday night, but to do the same on a Sunday afternoon? read more

Best arcade bar I've ever been too. Michael the manager was so hospitable and really made the night special. The food was exactly what we needed and the drinks were on point. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stumble by on our visit to Boston. read more

We went to versus, and everyone was amazing! The one who stood out the most to me, was all right. We walked in, he said he's been out for a little while, I knew exactly what he was doing. He made us feel welcome, appreciate it, and almost like an old friend he was visiting us. I will go there 100 times again even if it was just to go see that cute, quiet, boy Erik read more

For all you parents that are planning a trip to Cooperstown All Star Village or Dreams Park and are flying into Boston, don't miss this place! If you want a place to have good food and drinks while your kids play unlimited video games, pinball, shuffleboard, domed hockey and many other games for only $5 then you have to stop by Versus. We found this little secret after my son and I completed the Freedom Trail walk. I guess they also have newer video games like XBox and PlayStation but we never tried them. We had too much fun competing against each other in the old fashioned games while I had a beer and my son had soft drinks. Sully the manager made sure we had a great time and they had a great menu as well. Highly recommend this stop while in Boston. Most fun we had besides catching a Sox game at Fenway. read more

This is my favorite bar, or barcade. The food is amazing and there's a huge selection of arcade and pinball machines that you can play, unlimited after the cover charge. The staff is always friendly and personable. Definitely try the "two cows and a chicken" sandwich, or the zelda fries. If the building were bigger I'd love to see some more modern arcade games as well as the classics. DDR would be a "game" changer. read more

This place comes up as a barcade. I wouldn't have a problem classifying it as a bar, except kids are allowed and are roaming free of parental supervision (not a bar scene). I wouldn't have a problem classifying it as an arcade, but there are *maybe* twentyish games with a bar/seating area in the center. If you want an adult night out to relive childhood nostalgia without the presence of children, don't come here. read more

Service here is bad. You get a bracelet to play games for $5 but they have very limited selection and many games are broken.

Went here on a Saturday night and had a ton of fun. I've been to at least four arcade bars and I'd say this place is tied first. There's plenty of room to move around and for five bucks you can play all the games you want. A worker who we interacted with that night, Mike Hagan, was awesome. Really nice guy and made sure the place was running smoothly. Would definitely go back. read more

Great spot! Great selection of food and drinks. Tons of fun games to get your hankering for retro classics and arcade games out of your system. Sully the manager was extremely friendly and courteous. Would definitely return! read more

should be a 2 drink minimum to come in...offering $5 to play all you want ruins the vibe of this place..its not an arcade, its a bar with games..has potential..some games were broken. If my party spends $100 at the bar..its annoying to be surrounded by people who just pay $5 to get in..also drinks are overpriced..probably to compensate for all the people coming in who arent drinking. This place should decide whether its gonna be a cool spot, or something that just wants bodies in the building. Music is great. staff was great. Concept is lacking. 2 drink minimum would solve the issue..if people dont walk away..you dont want them as customers anyway. read more

Updated review: my jacket has been returned safely. This bar was fun to go to, but having broken games really takes away from the overall experience, especially since they're some of the few multiplayer/competitive non-arcade games. Also, one single-occupant ladies room... C'mon, you can do better than that. The staff were good (save for the whole "what do you want us to do about your stolen jacket" thing), and my friends and I had a good time. read more

If I could give this place one and half Stars I would. The 1 star is for $5 unlimited game play and the half star for our haggled waitress who seemed to be working the entire place by herself. Versus was such a disappointment. My husband and I arrived at 5:30 today. We found one little table in the bar area where we shoved into sit. We decided to just order drinks and some tots. Our sodas of ginger ale and pepsi arrived in approximately 7oz glasses that were dirty on the outside with flat soda on the inside. Not boding well. The tots arrived 3 seconds later. Pretty sure you all know that tots are hard to ruin. Versus managed to ruin tater tots. They were a little overcooked, so too crispy for our taste. The major grievance over these tots is that they seemed to be swimming in a bag of salt. If I wanted to eat salt I would do so and not order tater tots. Got some water- also came in dirty glasses. Since our waitress was on her own, there was no way to communicate any of this of her. We asked to close out our tab and were shocked to see that the flat 7oz of soda were $4 EACH. We cut our loses and went to go play games. We started in the room that has pinball machines and most of the vintage games. A third of them had signs that said out of order. After playing a few rounds of Frogger, it was getting a little too crowded to move around the group of 4 middle aged women celebrating a birthday. They were so sloshed that I couldn't figure out if they were yelling at each other or Ms. Pac Man but someone was a bi**h. We moved into the second room via the very crowded bar area where I was delighted to find a Mortal Kombat machine. (I am still undefeated in Mortal Kombat against my husband, in case anyone was wondering) The crown jewel of this place is the very modern, digital and giant Connect Four basketball game. Taking turns with other adults who had been drinking alcohol was surprisingly civilized, albeit with very little room to move. (Lord help them all if the birthday women want a turn) We made our way back through the even more crowded bar to grab our jackets from the self serve coat rack. I can't imagine any more people in there, because it was already wall to wall people and miserable at 6:45. At full capacity, don't even attempt, unless you want overpriced flat soda and salty tater tots. Never going to back to try anything else on their menu. You want vintage games with good food try Bit Bar in Salem or A4cade and Roxys in Central Square. read more

I highly recommend Versus! It's so unique, there's nothing else like it in the Boston area! From the retro games (Sonic, Pac-Man, Ninja Turtles, etc), the game themed drinks and delicious food- it's all so good! If you're looking for a new idea for date night or to have a fun night with your friends, this is the place. read more

Chill spot to hang out and play some old skool games and drink some brews with my besties. Will definitely be back.

Exactly the kind of place I was looking for. For only $5 you can get unlimited play of a choice amount of games. A bit dissapointed at the smaller selection of games, I really wish they had air hockey, but what they did have was quality and worked superbly. It really shows that they take good care of their machines, and that is unfortunately lacking at many other arcades. Will definitely be back for another fun night! read more

Went with a group for a birthday. We all had a blast playing the arcade games, life size Jenga, and crossfire (which was an absolute riot). Mike Hagan was absolutely fantastic and super attentive. Looking forward to going back sometime soon. read more

This review is for the arcade and NOT the bar: not worth it to go in unless you absolutely love arcade games and don't mind waiting for people to play 42 rounds before giving the rest of us a chance! It's actually not a bad deal, pay 5$ and can play for free, but there aren't many games to choose from. No basketball, pinball etc. read more

Love this new spot. I will be going back to play fifa and the giant connect four. They have several games and for a reasonable price. I have not tried the food, but I think this place is worth going to for a drink and hanging out with folks. read more

This place has a cool vibe and concept. Our server was super nice and attentive, but the drinks are expensive for what you get. We did the $5 to play games, but a lot of them were broken. We also got told last call was an hour and a half before the listed closing time and got kicked out 45 mins before close. I'm a server so I totally get wanting to pack up and get out by close, but I've never once had managers allow us to kick people out of the establishment before close. I would totally get if we were the only people in there too, but they kicked a bunch of people out to close. We only got like 20 mins to play games so it felt like a waste of our $5. I would recommend checking out Arc4de in cambridge if you want a cool video game themed bar/restaurant. 2 stars because our server is nice and every time I've gone the bouncer has been funny/pleasant. read more

I visited Versus last night with a few friends to celebrate a birthday. We enjoyed our time and would definitely return in the future. The staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Although the menu was limited in their offerings, the kitchen staff happy to accommodate my dietary restrictions. The prices for food and drinks are higher than most Boston bars/restaurants. This location offers a wide variety of different retro arcade games. The price for unlimited play is very reasonable at the price of $5. Games included pinball, 2d fighting games, skee ball and much more. Some of the games did not work however. The place is rather small, and seating can be tough to find if you come during a busy day such as Saturday. I recommend the reserve a table in advance if you are planning on coming with a group of 4 or more people. read more

My dude Emilio held it down with the best service money can buy! Super friendly and very attentive. He needs to be given a higher title or a raise! First time.there and great expirience ! read more

Attended this place and found out that the game I play was broken, and no one even answered my complaint. I would rather go to either Bit Bar or A4cade. read more

This bar had a lot of potential, but misses the mark in some regards. About 25% of the games were broken tonight, and another 25% malfunctioned while playing. They're charging $14 for a cocktail, so they should have working games. The bartenders were often facing away from patrons so it took quite a while to get served. The games that did work were great and beer and game prices were reasonable. read more

Great spot. Went there at 11 pm on a Saturday night and the place was decently busy. We were able to play anything we wanted up till close. There were some games that were pretty packed most of the night but we eventually got to play when spots opened up. Drinks are reasonably priced for the area. The 5 dollars for unlimited games is a sweet deal. Overall we had a great time, we don't understand why the reviews are so low for this place. It's not the most high end place but it's not attempting to be. read more

Seemed grimy and old inside - and there were kids everywhere after 5 on a Saturday. Not really an adult arcade when there's 5-12 year olds hogging all the games, screaming. I'm sure at some point in converts to 21 plus but I think i'll stick with A4Cade when i feel like a fun arcade bar. read more

Great concept, lots of fun every time. Love that all games are free once you are in the door. Food is great and staff are INCREDIBLY hospitable. 10/10, would come back any time. read more

We stopped in for lunch and a hang out while waiting for our flight. Very cool concept and vibe. We ordered the bacon and egg pizza, and while I appreciate the creative menu item, it was very bland and lacking seasoning. I also tried to order a Bloody Mary but apparently they don't do that here. The Bellini I got instead tasted like sugar water. Our server was friendly and did her best, but overall just not the best experience. Bland food and overly sweet, weak cocktails. Still a cool concept, maybe they'll figure it out as I know this place is fairly new. read more

This place rocks! Great selection of both new and nostalgic arcade games, great drinks, food, and atmosphere. Love that all the games are free after a cover instead of requiring tokens. read more
