I was treated terribly by the man who serves as district manager of this location and the location in Andersonville. I walked in on the March 12 for a charger. Sapphire looked up my information as a Verizon customer of 21 years and informed me that I was eligible for an upgrade to iPhone 15 ( I had a 13 that still works, I just needed a new charger). She said I could switch over and just start making payments on the 15. I said ok, a little surprised, not seeing any downside. She didn't give any more information but grabbed a 15 from the wall and put it with the charger I was buying. After signing the receipt for the charger, I put the charger and the phone in my purse and left. Keep in mind, nobody stopped me from doing so and I wasn't being sneaky about it. Also, these people have my information and if they called me to try to get the phone back they didn't leave a message.
Two weeks later I get a voicemail from a Chicago Police detective who says to call because my name came up in a retail theft. I assumed he was contacting me because I might have witnessed a theft, and as I didn't, I didn't call back. Well, yesterday I called him back and he said I stole the phone. I argued with him a bit, contacted Verizon customer service, the district manager called me back and said I should return the phone, which he had just reported lost or stolen so it would stop working within the hour, and he gaslighted me about what had happened and then hung up on me. I headed over to the Andersonville store and he was there, gaslighted me again and then grudgingly helped me put everything back on the 13 so I could return the 15.
Basically I think he's trying to make me look like a criminal to cover his own ass because he's the district manager and was apparently there when the "theft" occurred and did nothing to stop it and handled the aftermath horribly. He told me that Sapphire is a new manager who could have lost her job. Maybe he should lose his job for his own ineptitude--he was there, probably trained her, and did nothing but sic the police on me two full weeks later when I was just thinking the phone was mine and that Sapphire had set up the payment plan. read more
