Went here for a special graduation dinner, and was pleasantly surprised by just how special it was. We elected to try the "7 course chef's tasting menu", and was met by amazingly fresh, and expertly prepared dishes that were mouth tingling and refreshingly different. Our server was a wealth of knowledge who had to have a Master's degree in the menu of Veritas. Would love to come back! Only recommendation - we sat a table near the south side wall, and it was very hard to get in / out of the booth because of the legs of the table. read more

Veritas is an awesome addition to fine dining downtown. They moved shop from Delaware down to West Gay Street, and are beautifully situated in a well-lit, ground-level space that feels open but slightly away from the city streets. Think downtown Chicago bistro, glass and wood and metal. We made a reservation for 5pm (reservations are all but required) and were treated well by friendly and professional staff. Our server was knowledgable about the dishes and made recommendations about portions and preparation throughout our meal. Veritas deals in small plates, leaning toward chef-curated offerings. You can reserve a prix-fixe experience, with wine pairings and the chef's selections. Highly recommend going with the prix-fixe if you are into wine, it's a great deal. Otherwise, you can order from a variety of appetizers and small plates. [Okay, I was slightly dubious about the Spouse and his insistence we come here, given he can demolish a Thurman burger, fries and a beer no problem. The small plates are right-sized and the Spouse did not even want dessert by the end of the meal. Yay slow food?] ANYWAY. We started off with a nice Greek dip, veggies and bread/flatbread. We ordered WAY too many things, because it's impossible to choose only one or two things here. Get the wings, for sure - and let go of the idea of being fancy. The bacon risotto was delicious, and very filling - definitely something to share (but grab the little biscuit for yourself). The spouse had the shoulder filet, too and I got the scallop with kimchi and rice. We...were kind of excited and maybe we overordered...but it was all delicious and we somehow struggled through. All in all, this is a great place to go with a business group, to try their prix fixe on a special occasion, or spend an evening indulging in a variety of culinary delights. Definitely worth it. read more

I love this place. Why? Because I adore a great crafted cocktail. The way they chill their martini glasses is really interesting to watch and just adds that extra touch to a lemon drop, you know? The vibe is upscale and chill. It's a great after 5 spot. read more

The food overall was fine. The biggest problem for me was the up stairs bar. It's ambience and environment is beautiful. Overall, nicest bar in Columbus. It's for sure a lounge setup. A lot of tucked away seating for small groups. Problem though is it's being ran like it's a bar on Park Street or on campus. EVERYONE was crowded around the bar due to no server. This place is huge with absolutely no servers. Only way to get a drink is at the bar. This creates a seating problem. All the people at the bar drop all their belongings off at the chairs and couches so there's no where to sit and no room to order. Spoke with some of the service staff and they said this is how the owner wants it. EVERYONE crowed around the bar with no servers. Sounds like a great night! read more

Veritas has moved to its new downtown Columbus location at the SW corner of High and Gay streets; enter via side entrance on gay street. The restaurant is hip and modern. Food is excellent and the new Sommelier put together fantastic premium wine pairings. The cocktail menu in the restaurant is not the full cocktail menu (which is, however, available in the cocktail lounge upstairs). Love watching the kitchen work through the glass wall. Service is efficient, competent and friendly. A very cool aspect of Veritas' new home is the cocktail lounge upstairs; located in the former bank lobby, this is a really amazing space! All of the craft cocktail favorites are served in the lounge and the room is a laidback setting, bar seating, large furniture a even a pool table. Had a great time! read more

Veritas - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Columbus, Ohio

This is an exquisite dining experience. The bacon broth risotto is killer, and the mushroom ricotta toast is rustically fantastic. The bar upstairs is a must to do after dinner. Do the Black & White chocolate frozen foam dessert. I only took off one star because we were late and they seated us by the hostess station. It was our fault entirely, but that table location was ridiculous. So, so good. Try anything foam and be open to a unique way of dining. read more

This was, hands down, one of the better meals I've ever been privileged to have. That was not the goal when we set foot in the restaurant. But, sharing plates, we were able to enjoy a number of the chef's dishes, and each one was better than we deserved. I would levy a special recommendation for the mushroom toast, which tastes even better than it looks. Furthermore, the setting of the restaurant is fantastic...and doesn't hold a candle to the bar upstairs. read more

Veritas has a lively yet intimate atmosphere. Their contemporary tasting menu left us in awe of the chef's creativity; it was matched by the wait staff's attentiveness and fun. All in all, a great night where the time passed too quickly enjoying oysters, hushpuppies, feta dip, brussel sprouts, wings, scallops, filet & curry, dessert, wine and more. None too much and none as simply as described, all just right, but so tasty we all wanted more. Will be back many more times. read more

Great food. Our server Alex was fantastic--very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. I enjoyed the Provençal Fashioned cocktail--crisp herbal refreshment. We shared the feta dip, Brussels spouts (excellent spicy curry), bacon risotto (ultimate comfort), beef shoulder with street corn (my favorite dish of the night), deconstructed cheesecake (another winner), and bananas foster. All the dishes were excellent. We sat by the kitchen so it was fun to watch the magic being made. We will definitely come back. read more

The most exceptional meal I have ever had in Columbus. Highlights were the oysters, bacon risotto, crab gnocchi, mushroom toast, confit wings, feta dip, and great wine selection. Every dish is treated as a fine dining restaurant in any top city, thoroughly explained flavors and technique. Service, ambiance, and food were spot on. read more

To start: I typically don't take pictures of my food, so keep in mind the picture quality is due to my lack of abilities and they absolutely do not do justice to the absolutely divine meal I just experienced at Veritas. Secondly, this review will be a doozy, so sit back and relax. I started with the mushroom + ricotta + toast. This is an absolute must. If I had any type of ability to recreate this masterpiece of deliciousness, I would do it. But unfortunately, my cooking is even worse than my picture taking. Next, the gnocchi + deep sea crab + spinach + crack (truffles). The gnocchi is made with cake flour so it is fluffy and moist. I've never experienced anything quite like it. And I'm quite the experienced lady when it comes to gnocchi. Finally, for dessert I had more crack (banana + brown butter + rum). Holy. Hell. I am very happy I don't live in Columbus because I would eat this every day and need to be lifted out of my house with a crane. I will most likely be back to this establishment tomorrow, and then will walk around my hotel 2,000 times before I go to bed so I don't feel guilty about ordering one of everything!! Now to top it all off, the service is stellar. I was greeted immediately upon entering by a lovely host and decided to sit by my lonesome self at the bar. I just had a long day of work, so I looked like a scraggly cat and I was most certainly trying to avoid all human interaction. Despite this, the bartender went out of his way to delight me not only with his perfect recommendations, but also with his charming and charismatic personality. When you have a restaurant that serves such memorable food, and a staff that goes above and beyond, it deserves a 45 page essay like this. I forgot to mention that their spirit and cocktail selection is extensive and seemed to match the level of the foods amazingness. However, I did not imbibe, otherwise I would most likely be blacked out right now and unable to write this review. read more

Love love love Veritas. We've been on a few occasions and have loved it every time. The chef is amazing. ThIs is a restaurant that could compete in any of the the big cities and hold its own. A wonderful tasting menu and even accommodating for vegetarians. The wine pairings are spot on! Definetly on the higher scale but totally worth it. read more

The ambience here is very trendy and the bartender was friendly and helpful. He made me a delightful Pimm's based drink. From there it was downhill. The first redflag when we called to make a reservation was that we had to place a $20 deposit PER PERSON for our reservation. I heard my husband tell them on the phone it would be for 7 people. He noticed the next day they charged him $240 and certainly this does not equal 7×20. Next they told us no more street parking... ok we can deal with this. Finally, they told us on the phone during the reservation (again my husband was on speaker phone) that they offer a chef's menu or a small plate menu. They asked us to choose for our party of 7 at that time. We had no idea what our party would want so asked if we could decide in real time. They said no problem. Fast forward to the time of the reservation-for some odd reason they put us down for a table or 12. We get the mix up worked out and finally sit down and the waitess doesn't bring us any menus. We query this and she says they have us all down for the chef's menu and that either we all participate or none bc it is an "experience". Odd.. ok so we decided to do small plates. The waitress seemed a little miffed with our choice. We order our starters and the green beans and iberico were just ok and very small with very sparse flakes of iberico ham. The bread and butter were four basic dinner rolls. The burrata and sweet potato were very good. Next for the main course. I ordered the 8 oz filet. My filet came out and it was no more than 5-6 oz with about two tablespoons of mashed potatos. My husband orded the duck (which is typically served at least somewhat pink) and it was gray all the way through. We all enjoy a good cocktail, but it took quite a while for our drinks to be brought to our table. After all of this and around $30 per entre our group was ready to say forget about dessert. We will would not go back. read more

This is my new favorite spot in Columbus. I came first for the cocktails, which are first rate and would be more than enough to bring me back time and time again, but the food is truly spectacular. Tapas style, and you can either do a la carte or dive in for the chef's tasting menu. The a la carte option is sure to be more affordable and you won't be left disappointed. A good bit of the menu is prepared sous vide, which leaves everything extremely tender. My favorite was the octopus, which was by far the most tender of any I've ever had. If you have the impression that octopus or calamari tends to be chewy or rubbery, Veritas will definitely correct this misperception. Side note, there's a whole other bar upstairs that also serves similar mixology-type cocktails. It's worth checking out for a drink or two after you finish your dinner, even though Veritas has cocktails that are unrivaled. read more

This place is wonderful. My s/o and I have been a few (maybe 4 or 5) times for the tasting menu, and it's been great every time. The food is presented beautifully, tastes great, and you can tell the amount of time, effort, and thought put into each dish. We also indulged in the wine pairings, which are so worth it! We've moved around the country a bit, moved to Columbus from California, and were really missing non-sweet wines until we found Veritas (and also Twisted Vine in UA)! I'm a fan of minerally wines, and was so surprised and pleased to have a few different ones here! The wine program is really impressive, Greg and the team should be proud! Mitch was our server, I think 3 of the times that we've been, and was also great and knowledgeable about each dish and wine pairing. I'm finally writing this review now, as my s/o and I move back to our home area of Boston. I have to admit we were very picky about the places we ate at, as both of us have been/are in the restaurant industry, but Veritas is one of our favorites and is one of the things we will miss the most about Columbus! I'm hopeful that more people in the area will open their appetites to this great experience, and try new things! OH doesn't have to be just steak and potatoes! Thank you to the team at Veritas for many great meals (and wines)! read more

If the food was as empty as the service id give less stars. Greeted strangely. Im not sure we were welcome. Im not sure why as its 7pm on a Tuesday. Undeserved snobbery is a pet peeve of mine. Sleek restaurant that is the first time I've truly had a meal in Columbus from a restaurant that could thrive in Chicago or another large foodie city. Service was great, prompt and good suggestions. Pacing of the meal was perfect as we weren't rushed at all. Prices were high for the amount of food. The food was good not great. The gnocchi and scallops were standouts, the rest were ok but forgettable. The best aspect is their amazing wine list that includes not only baller by the glass, like a 14 La Tache, but great bottles. I'd for sure come here again for wine and a snack or two. read more

Came here last night with a friend. When we showed up at 7 the place was empty and I was asked if I had a reservation. I said no and it took them awhile to discuss where to put us. We said we'd just sit at the bar, and once there were told we couldn't order the same food as at the tables. We were then told that at the tables you can only order the tasting menus, costing $50 or $90 dollars. I explained that I'm a vegetarian and was pretty much told too bad. We decided to order drinks at least and when we asked what was good were told "all of them, I created them". Awesome, but not helpful. The drinks we did order were very yummy (I got something off the menu when I requested something with mezcal) and my friend loved the chicken wings he got from the bar menu. However, we left to go have dinner somewhere else. Btw, when we left there were still only 3 tables filled so still not sure why the big deal about not having a reservation. The place seems a little too pretentious for my liking, and I know I won't be able to ever eat there. The drinks were yummy, though pricy. read more

We had dinner here last night and it was a very nice experience overall. There were, however, also a couple aspects that were less impressive than expected. The three stars describe how I rate Veritas compared to other restaurants in the price range. We won't be returning due to the less impressive items listed below. There are simply better options around for the price. First, the impressive: The ambiance was both elegant and charming. The drink list and bar was rather impressive with plenty of spartan no talent that translates through the cocktail list and by listening to the bar tender describe his drinks to the folks at the bar. The wine list was AWESOME! It wasn't overwhelming in length, but all bases were covered. The by-the-glass section included an extensive corevin section with impressive and interesting options. The service was perfect. Our server, Jordan, struck a perfect balance between engagement and privacy. She was professional and fun. The pace at which we received our plates from the tasting menu was perfect and Jordan described each dish very well. Now for the less impressive: The food was good relative to all levels of restaurant fare, but not up to the standard that the price and restaurant concept demanded. It was as if slightly lesser ingredients were used (in some cases) and this wasn't adequately compensated for in the composition/execution. That's not to say that there were a few very good dishes (the scallops and the tortellini), but there were a few duds (the citrus salad, the wreck fish, and the beef course). The food certainly didn't live up the reservation process (see the next point)... I'm not sure if there was a glitch, or if it was intended for the diner to commit to "tapas, the tasting menu...", etcetera at completed the reservation process. Also, having to enter credit card info before completing the reservation and agreeing to $20 dollar charge (repaid as long as you show up) had our expectations set very high. And the food just didn't stack up. read more

The setting is a bit claustrophobic. We had the tasting menu. The food is not high end. It feels amateurish and disappointing. read more

The first time I went to Veritas, I was only there for drinks. Ever since then, I've been dying to try the food. Now that I have, I can say without exaggeration that it was probably my best dining experience in Columbus. We had a collection of small plates, which is an excellent setup because you get to try a variety of dishes and because the first bite or two of any dish always tastes the best. We started with three appetizers, the hushpuppies and bacon ramp aioli, the shishitos plus parmesan and "everything," and the mushrooms with ricotta on toast. The shishitos were my favorite. Blistered peppers, some spicy and some not, smothered in a melty parmesan/cream cheese mix and topped with what was described as "everything bagel" toppings, so salt, seeds, and onion. Delicious! The spiciness of the peppers, the creaminess of the cheese, and the saltiness of the topping were perfect together. The mushrooms were nearly as good, with tiny, juicy mushrooms and greens on cheesy toast. I also enjoyed the hushpuppies. They were dense and had a pleasant corn sweetness to them. I didn't get a ton of flavor from the aioli, but it wasn't really necessary to be enjoyable. Moving onto the main course small plates, we had the gnocchi and crab, the confit buffalo chicken wings, the bacon risotto, and the shoulder filet. The filet was tender slices of rare (maybe just into medium rare) meat covered in a curry sauce and topped with two types of farro, one more the traditional boiled farro and one that was toasted to give it a nice crunch. The wings were incredible. The sauce reminded you of the buffalo sauce at a sports bar, but everything else was so different. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and juicy. The blue cheese dip was more like a mousse. It was all topped with delicate slivers of celery. They seemed so familiar, but also so much nicer and more refined, than your average wing joint. The bacon risotto was cooked with bacon stock for a nice salty flavor and also with white cheddar and maple syrup, giving the dish a sweet and spicy combo. It was topped with a runny sous vide egg that mixed in so nicely. Wonderful. The gnocchi was my least favorite dish of the night and it was still very good. Very sweet and rich. At the end, it felt like just the right amount of food. I had tried and enjoyed a number of things and felt satisfied, but not stuffed. The drinks were fantastic, but I've covered them in a previous review, so I won't go in-depth. The service really stood out too. Our server, Alex, was one of the best I've had. She really seemed passionate about the food and drinks. Veritas is fancier than my average meal, and it would be easy for that to be somewhat intimidating, but she guided us through everything in such a casual, friendly way, encouraging us to try different dishes and drinks and answering all our questions with a ton of detail. The food and drinks were enjoyable enough on their own, but fantastic service really added to the experience. It's probably unsurprising that Veritas isn't cheap. I spent $250 on the two of us (granted, we had several drinks over the course of the long meal and that adds up). I'm not complaining -- the experience was fantastic and was worth every penny -- but be prepared. This will be more of a special occasion spot for us than a regular dining spot, but that's okay, because it gives us something to look forward to. read more

Now open for lunch! Everything was delish! We especially loved the hummus and the mushroom toast (it has a better name then that...and it was VERY GOOD). Don't get me wrong, the food here is very, very good. Stellar, even. But categorize it as molecular gastronomy I would not. Flavors are outstanding, in some cases balanced and in others not so much, but there's nothing here I haven't tasted before. However, the quality and presentation are outstanding (just not mind blowing). Service is above average -- friendly but sometimes uneven. Course pacing needs work. Some courses are served within 5 minutes of each other; others, there's a 20 minute wait. With the 6 course meal, you will want a snack later. It's not filling. But it is delicious. Excellent wine selection. Stunning decor. Cons: (1) Expensive considering you're not taking home leftovers. (2) Valet is a ridiculous $10 and a 20 minute wait. (3) The dining chairs are ungodly uncomfortable. read more

Chef-driven restaurants have some tells, two of which are on display at Veritas: a kitchen disproportionately large relative to the dining room, and that polite little footnote on the menu saying no substitutes or other dish deviations (i.e. the chef knows better than you.) But who cares who's in charge so long as the experience is worth the tab? And at this echelon of the pricing scale, the experience ought to overshadow any thoughts of ownership. Regrettably, that is not the case here. At least not yet. We were asked to submit all plate/course orders at once so that the kitchen could plan an appropriate tempo of coursing. Wonderful, we thought, finally a place that encourages the Italian pace of a meal. 12 minutes after placing our order, all plates arrived simultaneously and without comment. Tempo? The food itself was terrific - thoughtfully prepared and with well-sourced ingredients. The portions, however, appear to be the result of Instagram-focused intentions rather than a real life diner's satiation. Double that for the wine. Finally, like the service and food, the atmosphere is an almost. LED/fluorescent lights in the soffits, kitchen, and back hall would be at home in the basement bathroom of a government building. This mars what would otherwise be a warm and hip environment. Some of these are curable and might even be excusable at a place open barely a month. Here's hoping they get it together and deliver on their full potential- whomever is wearing the pants. read more

What a wonderful experience we had at Veritas from start to finish! Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and had great pairing recommendations for each part of the meal. We were tempted to try the tasting menu, but opted for the a la carte as to have more choice. Highlights: - The mushroom ricotta toast: It was presented as if I were consuming this beautiful little pasture. The wild mushrooms had this umami flavor that complemented the creaminess of the ricotta and I would love to come back for this alone. - The bacon risotto: Oh my goodness, we were astounded at how flavorful this was and how rich and strong the bacon flavor was in the risotto while still managing to pull out a sweetness from the little bacon bit that was distinct from the risotto. - Banana butter rum: I could've eaten a pan of the bread putting that was on the bottom, I swear to you. That, when mixed with the ice cream, the rum, and the sauce on one half of the plate, was heavenly. While bread pudding can sometimes be a little heavy or too sweet, this was perfect. - Dark and white: This other chocolate dessert blew our minds a little in that it different chocolates five ways--there was part that looked like white popcorn but was liquid nitrogen that was poured onto white chocolate. Certainly something different and delicious. Other things we had were the shishito peppers, which were topped with cream cheese and parmesan (also delicious), gojuchang oysters (they're cooked, not raw), the gnocchi (literally melt in your mouth), and the filet with farro and coconut curry (I can't stop thinking about that farro). Overall, this was a great dining experience, and Iook forward to coming back to try more cocktails and dishes! read more

This place is amazing. The tasting menu, the premium wine pairings, and the unique craft cocktail bar sets Veritas apart from anything else in Cbus. A world class culinary experience has just arrived in downtown Columbus. I've had meals at places like Pineapple and Pearl in DC or Le Gustacion in Prague or Addison's in Southern California. Veritas compares favorably to these international destination restaurants. The already up and coming food scene in Columbus took a big leap forward here. And they are just beginning to explore what they can do! Go, and go early or stay late to enjoy the cocktail lounge read more

We absolutely loved our first of what will be many visits to Veritas. We came in a week ago and sat at the chef's table, which is in the walkway between the restaurant and the kitchen. We had the tasting menu wine the wine pairings, and we loved all of the courses. Our favorite were the cod, the pork belly, and the the strawberry at the end was quite a nice surprise. The head chef and the sommelier were both great, even going as far as to help us with some planning for our upcoming Napa trip. I will also give a big shout out to the two bartenders upstairs. We went upstairs after our meal and both of these guys take their craft seriously and it shows. I honestly think this might have been the best dining experience we have had in Columbus. read more

I've been wanting to eat at Veritas for years but never made the trek up to Delaware, so I was really excited when I heard they were opening downtown! We both ordered 2 cocktails each and they were all delightful. For food, we started with 2 small plates, the hushpuppies and the brussels and thoroughly enjoyed both. For main dishes we tried the bacon risotto, which from reading reviews might be their most popular dish (with good reason!), the Gnocchi with crab, and the scallops with kimchi. The bacon risotto and gnocchi were on another level. It's like they took the essence of bacon and infused it into a perfectly cooked risotto. The gnocchi was so tender and creamy and crabby and perfect. The scallops were also perfectly cooked, but I don't think I am a fan of kimchi, so that's my own fault. Finally we moved on to dessert and this is where things got weird. The cheesecake dessert was fabulous and perfect. We also ordered the White + Dark chocolate. When it came out, we were surprised by the appearance because there isn't a description. They use (I think) nitrogen to turn the white chocolate into a new form, it looked a little like popcorn but the texture melts in your mouth. My husband took a bite and said "huh this is really smokey", so I tried it and it tasted...off.I had a few more bites and remarked that I thought it tasted like bleu cheese. I didn't really enjoy the flavor but thought maybe they were going for a savory and sweet combination and while I usually enjoy that, this dish was missing the mark for me. 5 minutes or so later, the waitress came back and informed us they had mixed up the white chocolate foam with the bleu cheese foam on accident. She brought back a new dish with the correct foam and it was MUCH more enjoyable. Obviously accidents happen, but thats a flavor combination I won't soon forget. Afterwards, we went up to the cocktail lounge to have an after dinner drink. The lounge is GORGEOUS and is a place I will definitely be visiting more in the future...BUT we had a really uncomfortable incident because of the placement of the tv's behind the pool table. The bar wasn't very crowded and we thought we would play a game while enjoying our drinks. A few other guests were watching the olympics and made some pretty rude comments to us about blocking the tv's. I calmly let them know that we were just trying to play a game of pool and if they had an issue with the tv location they should bring it up to the management. Things escalated from there, fueled by alcohol no doubt, and we ended up leaving before we were able to finish our drinks. TLDR: Most of the food was REALLY good, but some weird moments detracted from our overall experience. read more

I treated my boyfriend to dinner here. After dining here, I would say it was also a treat for me too! We had the hush puppies, mushroom toast, bacon risotto, gnocchi, and cheesecake. I wanted to give a 3.5 star review but feel that 4 stars would be too generous. The good: the drinks both upstairs at the bar and in the restaurant were excellent. The service (other than the valet not coming out to park the cars lining up in the street) was quite good and attentive. The private room for parties of greater than 6 people was very nice and soundproof. (They also require the tasting menu when you reserve the room). Most of the food was interesting and good. Other than the issues with the deposit via the online website, I thought the customer service on the phone was great. The bad: I agree with another reviewer that the atmosphere in the restaurant is strange. The lighting is off somehow. For the prices and upscale nature of the restaurant, the decor including the tables and chairs, and tube lighting really brought it down a notch. I was very pleased to have the private room as I had arranged a work function. We had the tasting menu, which was approximately $100 a person and it was light on the food, which was expected, but most everything was good. However, the scallops were awful. I don't think anyone in our party ate their entire serving. They tasted fishy and were very chewy. For some reason, that dish is all I can remember even though the rest of dinner was pretty good. But for the price, it isn't something I would ever consider again. Overall, I would go to be bar upstairs but don't think I'd dine at the restaurant again. read more
