Think high end tapas if you go to this place. The drinks were good. The steak was great. The fish tacos were good as well. You can add an extra taco for an upcharge. Low light was the stuffed pepper. It says it has chorizo in it but I couldn't taste any. The chips and guac is a little different as the chips are large and oblong. For the for of us the tab was $270. Check em out but we kinda tried everything there so it's unlikely we'd be back but it's still good.

Upscale bars featuring small plates seem to be popping up all over the Columbus Metropolitan area by lately...Mezcla seems more geared toward that than a Latin restaurant the reviews have called it. Regardless what you call it: all I can say is welcome! Think of this place a somewhere nice that you can go to your with your date, partner or a small group of friends while enjoying cocktails or a good bottle of wine. You really don't need to worry about having screaming children at this place because the menu just really doesn't accommodate for them Which in my opinion is so, well, very nice!!! Most of the menu is small plates, which goes along with the whole concept of this is a more a cocktail bar. So, if you think you're gonna get a gigantic chimichanga with rice and beans and never ending chips and salsa... This would not be the place- but if you wanna have adult beverages, paired with some excellent appetizers and small plates... then this is your place. We came here, spontaneously without reservation Our table choices were limited due to not having the reservation, but there was plenty of window, seating and bar seating to choose from so there was no problem finding a comfy place We chose to sit at the bar and enjoy some margaritas. We paired them with the house gauc n salsa. That was a wise choice. Portioned well enough to share... but you might want your own... only because the guac is beyond excellent and the salsa.... Just as good. They make their own tortilla chips... always a plus. 5/5 We also ordered carnitas tacos and a mushroom chile rellenos. The rellano was large, amply stuffed and I reallynliked that it was not breaded. Great flavor. 4/5. The tacos... three on a plate. Served open faced. Piled with the most tender and flavorful carnitas that makes you want more. 5/5. As far as service. Service was good. Sometimes a little hard to catch their attention but it did get busy so that is understandable. Everyone in the room seemed to be enjoying themselves. i would definitely go back

A friend of mine told me to try this place out. I do miss The Market. It was one of my favorite spots. They seemed to keep the same vibe of the place. Still a beautifully designed interior. Nice looking furniture too. And Tons of pathos plants. Great music selection and the outdoor seating looked nice. A friend and I made a reservation to come during HH. We were able to get deals on the drinks. I got an old fashioned while she got a margarita with mezcal. We ended up sharing everything: tostadas with guacamole and salsa, fish tacos, and pato pibil (duck thigh). We were so full! It was a lot of food. The tostadas were freshly fried and the fish tacos had a wonderful crunch to them. And the duck was so tender. It paired well with the squeeze of lime and black beans. Very impressed with the food selection here! They've got a lot of options, even a decent amount for vegetarians and gluten free folks. Staff is super smiley and helpful with menu recs. The fish tacos came with only three but since we were sharing our server said we could order an extra-- no issue with the kitchen. Mostly parallel parking around here. Easy peasy but it's not free like it used to be. I'd like to sit at the bar next time. Seems like a vibe. I'll be back!

Relatively new to the CBus food scene. Latest restaurant interation at Summit St. & W 3rd. It's Mexican with a twist. Not the kind you are use too. Offerings include cesar salad with anchovy/cheese dressing. Enough for 2 or 3. Surprisingly delicious. Fish tacos are skinless, unbreaded Icelandic cod. Veggie tacos features black bean puree and sweet potatoes. Very good. Not especially filling but super tasty. The drinks are delicious. If you like mezcal, you MUST try the alchemista. Unique, including the way its served. It was busy on Thursday evening. Tables full. Noise level loud. Service was pretty fast considering. nouveau cusine made in open kitchen makes for reservations required.

The food is amazing here! Well thought out flavor fusion. The interior is cozy with a barrel arch theme repeated in the architecture and decor. The service was great at the bar. They were incredibly busy and we couldn't get a table. The scallop tostada was amazing. I would definitely try the fish tacos if I go back. They looked great.

I can't rave enough about this meal! Excellent in every way. Some of the best, most interesting, bites I've had in Columbus in quite some time. Highly recommend going with a group of at least four to share dishes. My favorites were the aguachile tatemado (albacore) and the enchiladas. Drinks were all excellent as well. Delicious. Our server was a wealth of knowledge. Super helpful with all food and drink recommendations. Can't wait to see how this menu evolves.

Unbelievably good. What an impressive, immaculate and fantastic restaurant. Kudos to this talented chef. Food was meticulously balanced in flavor and beautifully presented. We had the pleasure of sitting at the chef's counter and spent two hours admiring all of the menu options. If you're undecided about dinner, you should absolutely reward yourself for finding this outstanding restaurant on Yelp!

Mezcal - l have to say the salsa and guacamole with tostadas were very flavorful- creamy and salsa had the right amount of heat. The scallop tostada was different- the taste was fine but l didn't realize the scallop was served cold, which had not been explained. Drink - wonderful- very well made. It's a bit loud -inside (stopped during the week) but there is a nice patio, bathrooms really clean - wonderful and friendly service. Overall experience was nice but this is an upscale priced restaurant- more gourmet. I will give it another try on a happy hour next time.

I am so excited to have finally tried Mezcla. First off, the restaurant is beautiful. I came in and sat at the bar while I waited for my friends to get there. I like the medium/small plate system where you order a lot and share. So we got to try almost the full menu. We started with the chips guac and salsa which was absolutely delicious. Then we ordered: chile relleno, enchiladas suizas, tacos dorados, hamachi tiradito, scallop tostada, agua chile tatemado, barbacoa de borrego, and tacos de chochinita. Everything was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed every single dish but the standouts to me were the enchiladas suizas, barbacoa de borrego, and the hamachi tiradito. They have half off of bottles of wine on Sundays so we got a bottle of red wine as well as some various single glasses of wine. Our server Kimmie was radiant, super friendly, and prompt. The bartender was also super friendly and accommodating. Overall this was a great experience and I am excited to come back.

One month later and I'm still thinking about the scallop tostadas at Mezcla, probably the single best bite of my summer. The salsa macha crust gave the dish a sweet-savory note that accentuated the natural flavor of the scallop with a punchiness that reminded me of Southeast Asian salads. Anyways, onto the rest of the meal: the other dishes we ordered were all excellent. Other standouts included the chile relleno, smoked to perfection and filled with meaty oyster mushrooms, and the plantain pudding dessert, a dense, textured pudding with wonderful caramelized flavor. The drinks program was solid: the 'agricoco' was a table favorite and the 'burn after drinking' was excellent as well. The paw paw margarita lacked any distinct paw paw flavor and tasted like an ordinary margarita - I wonder if using some other tropical fruit flavor (i.e. banana & mango) might have helped to accent the unique tropical flavor and custardy notes of the paw paw fruit. Service was excellent and so friendly, and the staff took the tree nut allergy that one of our party had very, very seriously, which was super appreciated. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, and the place was bustling, with tables of large groups of friends, families out to dinner, and couples out on dates. The small and shareable plate format made it easy for us to order the right amount of food for our party size. Meszcla was a revelatory dining experience - I was impressed by how many new flavor combinations and interesting textures popped up in dishes that, on paper, I thought I knew quite well. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Meszcla grows and evolves given the creativity of their opening menu!

    Aguachile Tatemado
    Bethany K.

My husband was craving tacos, so we took advantage of having a new restaurant to try. First off, the decor is chic... like dark academia. Now to old people comment, the music was so very loud; we could barely hear the hostess ask if we had reservations or not; we did not, we came during the week, so we were sat almost immediately. The dishes are designed to be shared, small plate style. The menu is sectioned off into vegetarian, seafood, and carnivore. Per usual, we were excited to try several things are the menu, so we ordered too much. We began with the salsa and guacamole, followed by aguachile tatemado, tacos de pescado, and tacos de carnitas. The salsa was good, but the guacamole stole the show, for me anyway... very lime forward, which is a preference of mine; excellent texture as well. The next star was the aguachile - the tuna was perfect texture, with being citrus forward as well; both served with homemade tostadas. My husband really enjoyed the pescado, I did not partake as I do not enjoy cod. Our least favorite was the carnitas; odd complain, but there was too much meat, and just not as flavorful as the other dishes... just fell a little flat for us. While the service started a little slow, our sever really knew the menu and was able to make recommendations. The price point is mid to expensive. Overall, this was a great meal. We will definitely be back for trying new dishes, and coming back for some.

    Snapper al pastor, carne asada

This is my third visit to Mezcla, and it is consistently a great choice. The food is amazing, everything has a great depth of flavor and textures. We ordered the aguachile tatemado, snapper al pastor and carne asada. Our server was super friendly and fun, we asked a lot of questions and was able to help us with our decisions. The drinks we ordered were also very yummy, I don't think there are any bad choices. We will definitely be returning!

This restaurant has a very nice interior. It is very warm and inviting with a family feel to it. The service here was very nice. Our waitress was very thorough in explaining the menu, but tried to take away one of our plates with food still on it. Then it was a little awkward the rest of the time. For the food, we ordered the vegetable tacos, fried fish tacos, lamb, and scallop tostada. To my surprise, the vegetable tacos were actually very flavorful. You can tell they make their tortillas from scratch, which I appreciate. The lamb was cooked on the rare side, which I didn't mind because it was very flavorful and super tender. The only downside is the serving size was very small. The fish tacos were also very good. The crisp on the fry was amazing paired with their sauce on the taco It was immaculate. Lastly, the scallop tostada was very flavorful and had a lot of scallop for one tostada. unfortunately, my partner was not a fan because it was too fishy for her taste, but I didn't share the same opinion. Overall, I think this restaurant is putting out some delicious food with great service and ambience. The price may have been a bit high, but if you are still hungry after there is always McDonald's lol jk.

Their visual chart is a…read moregodsend for cocktail explorers, and all of the drinks came out delicious and exactly as described. It's so creative, and the drinks are really the stellar stand out here. However, the atmosphere of those drinks is what gives me pause when thinking about coming back. The limited table situation, tiny cramped space, and loud music means that it doesn't feel particularly relaxing. People are constantly brushing up against you (even at 5PM), and holding a conversation at a normal distance is nearly impossible. NOTE: This place is covered in dust. No shade to the ownership as it doesn't appear to be anywhere near food prep areas (it's on the decor, on/around shelving, all over the faux plants, etc.), but if you're someone who's sensitive to dust, this is probably not a good fit. PROS: -I loooooooove how they've done their drink menu. As someone who is still exploring the potential of cocktails, their nerdy "chart" that places all of their drinks on a sweet/bitter and alcohol-forward/approachable visual chart is SUCH a help. As such, everything I ordered was absolutely amazing for me. I knew exactly what to expect from a drink because of its position on the chart, and it delivered. -Their drinks are really unique. Aqua faba? Fat washed alcohols? Lollipops or toasted marshmallows as garnishes? Super cool. Don't let some of the weirder descriptions creep you out of trying them. -All of their drinks were delicious. Everything I ordered was exactly as described. I often go places where the taste is barely related to its namesake, but they were entirely on-point here. CONS: -I'm not sure if someone called off that night as other reviewers are in love with the service, but our service was really really slow. No real rapport with the staff; just stating the name of a drink as they rushed past and then they were off to try to clean a table or take someone else's order. The drinks they made were great, but this isn't somewhere we'd go if we were in a hurry. -The pictures do not accurately convey how small this place is. Like, it's small. I'd guess less than 1000 square feet. My apartment is bigger by a lot. This isn't necessarily an issue, but it means people pile up quickly as they wait for seating (there's like 4/5 tables and then bar seating). The human walkways are small enough that the bartenders and other guests will brush against you a lot - even while seated. -I get the vibe they were going for here, but with the smaller space, I think a lot of the potential decor options had to "go" in order to fit more humans. It's giving me hardcore The Hearth Room (in Cincinnati) vibes, and I think it could honestly pull it off if it simply had more space. The "relaxed, sophisticated bourbon bar" doesn't quite come through as well when things are so focused on simply fitting in more bodies. -It's loud AF. Like, really, really loud. Between all the people and the blasting pop music, it required leaning into someone's ear in order to speak at normal volumes. We'd regularly have to pause the conversation if something in the music was building to a drop. This is not a place I'd take someone I wasn't very very comfortable with because it really requires being in someone's space to talk. -There's a single all-gender toilet here for everyone in the establishment. It's basically a revolving door of people in and out of it. The door auto-closes, however, so it's really difficult to figure out if it's open or not. There was usually a queue of people waiting in front of the door.

You can sit at a high top table, blue velvet couches for a more laid back option or the bar if you come alone or with a friend! The second best part about this place is you can order of a menu of curated pre picked wines and crafted cocktails or pop into the wine shop connected to it called Hausfrau Haven. Tons of natural light means this cocktail bar has had some of my *favorite* cocktail bar photos I've ever taken. It's so pretty in here. NOTES: -During pop-ups, walk-ins are near-impossible on weekends and not likely on weekdays. Make a reservation if you want to make sure you'll have a spot. -No dedicated parking lot. 3-hour-limit free residential parking all around Law Bird, though. We generally have to walk 2 or 3 blocks from parking to Law Bird. Be aware this is German Village, and you're looking at cobblestone sidewalks for high heel and accessibility purposes. -Law Bird mostly has small party seating. If you have a larger group you want to seat during a pop-up, make SURE to get that reservation in early. They have the single 8-person table. -They have snackies and food. Portion sizes are small (despite what the prices may suggest), though, so this is not generally a place to eat a full meal. All of the food is super flavorful, though, so definitely a great snack to add on. PROS: -Keeping things fresh, they regularly host cute seasonal events, new drinks, and pop-up events. In recent memory, I know they've done a Cherry Blossom one, a Spooky Halloween one, and a Christmas one. -They go ALL OUT for their pop-ups. It isn't just a brand new, professionally-printed menu (no pieces of paper with 4 seasonal drinks here). It's also all of their interior decor, bathroom decorations, bartop decorations, and more. Ceiling decor too! They get all up in there. It's really fun to see the space transformed constantly. -Between the new menus and the constantly-new decorations of their space, I love regularly popping into Law Bird. -I LOVE the creativity of the menus, and I LOVE that they offer cocktail classes. (I haven't taken one yet, but I'm excited to!) The menu has unique drinks, served with unique garnishes. They have a few "sugar cocktails", but for the most part, Law Bird drinks tend to be complex and spirit-forward. -Their "themed" bathrooms (even with their own themed music playlists) make me happy. They have two unisex, single room restrooms. CONS: -If you come during a pop-up with a smaller group, they will enforce their reservation time limit of 1.5 hours. This isn't necessarily the end of the world, but the times when they enforce their limits is when they have more customers waiting - and tend to be when the place is at capacity. When they're at-capacity, the bar staff and service staff is a lot busier, with drink service taking longer and servers checking in a lot less. This means we usually only have had the chance to place 2 drink orders during that 1.5 hour time limit before they ask us to leave. This can be rough (to try most of the drinks on a limited time menu) unless you're sharing drinks with your tablemates. If you still want to continue your evening with your friends after that 1.5 hour limit, Antiques on High, Daily Growler, and Cobra are easily walkable from here. -During their pop-ups on weekends, time between placing a drink order and receiving the drink has usually been around 15 to 20 minutes. Not the end of the world as you get to socialize with friends, but again, with the time limit, that can be a bit rough.

That being said, upon opening the door we were told we couldn't come in without masks. Mine was in my pocket, no problem. I haven't left my home (in Tennessee) often enough since the beginning of the virus for it to become habit to automatically put on a mask when I get out of my vehicle. But 9/10 times I remember before entering a public place. The male bartender just seemed rude in the way he told us to put one one. I had read the raving reviews, and being a Yelp Elite myself I know I can and do trust their reviews above others. So....I was really looking forward to trying something new and enjoy watching a bartender do their thing. The bartender pointed to two framed menus on top of a cooler containing seltzer's and canned drinks, and some glass bottles of pre-made cocktails, I think. I would've appreciated the bartender ask me what I liked, and help me decide, but it was easier for him to point to the sign. Customer service absolutely sucked hippo balls. I asked if I could just order a Knob Creek and Coke in a short glass, and a Blanton's for my hubs. Sure!! What I got was a shot of each in a to-go plastic condiment container with a lid, and two big paper go cups (like Burger King) of ice, and a can of Coke, which I told him never mind I had a soda in the truck. We also got two bags of Cheeto's, to make the sale legal. So....we poured our bourbons over the ice in the paper cups. I drank a few sips of mine, yum, even in paper. My husband was just about to take a sip and noticed something stuck in his ice that looked just like a maggot. He walked back across the street and told/showed the bartender, who vehemently denied it came from the ice because it was a brand new bag. Then I noticed 3 of the maggot looking things in my ice, so I went back in and showed my husband and then the bartender. He told my husband it was probably from the citrus he was cutting on a board near the ice bin. They were frozen INSIDE the ice cubes. I'm upset with myself that I didn't take a picture of it, it was gross. I'm upset that a bartender would try to make it seem like it was nothing. After seeing it all in my ice my husband just asked for our money back, and the bartender said, "But I've already poured another." Ummm, sorry, but no thank you. He did give the refund, but I most assuredly won't give them a second chance when I visit Columbus.
